Fulham's Marcus Bettinelli proud to emulate Mark Schwarzer

Marcus Bettinelli won promotion with Fulham

Marcus Bettinelli never thought he would emulate his idol Mark Schwarzer, but the Fulham goalkeeper will play Premier League football in front of the stands he used to watch from as a child.

The 26-year-old helped Fulham win promotion from the Championship last season and is set to start in their Premier League opener against Crystal Palace on Saturday.

Bettinelli remembers watching games at Craven Cottage with his father and then with Fulham academy team-mates and believes it is one of the best places to play football.

"When I was growing up and coming through the academy, Mark Schwarzer was No 1 at the time and he was the guy that I came here to watch and model myself off," Bettinelli told Sky Sports News.

"He's a great guy off the pitch as well, he used to give me a lot of advice.

Mark Schwarzer playing for Fulham at Craven Cottage

"To come here to such a special stadium like this and sit in this stand, I don't know how many there are like this, so traditional and old school, but it's got a fantastic vibe to it.

"When I used to sit up there, I never used to think 'one day I'll play on this pitch in front of a full crowd', I never thought I would.

"I used to say it was my goal, but I never honestly thought I would."

Bettinelli earned plaudits for his performances in Fulham's promotion push during a 23-game unbeaten run.

He said they need to maintain the same mentality if Fulham are to ensure Premier League survival, something the goalkeeper is desperate to achieve.

"The side that we were and that we are now is a completely different picture to what we were last season and two seasons ago," he said.

"There were a lot of question marks over us defensively and this 'Fulham-ish' tag that a lot of people carried with us. Last season we completely erased that.

"It's just something now I don't want to have for just one season and one season only, it's something I want to keep.

"We can't rest there as a club and say we've finished and we've done it because our journey is now only just starting."

Mirror say Whites and Palace are chasing Ayew deal

The Daily Mirror say Fulham are competing with Crystal Palace for the signing of Jordan Ayew and that the forward has failed to report for training at Swansea in an attempt to force a move.

Mirror say Whites and Palace are chasing Ayew deal

By West London Sport 08/08/2018

A look at some of the stories in Wednesday's newspapers...

The Daily Mirror say Fulham are competing with Crystal Palace for the signing of Jordan Ayew and that the forward has failed to report for training at Swansea in an attempt to force a move.

West London Sport revealed two months ago that Fulham wanted Ayew and Calum Chambers, who completed his loan move from Arsenal on Tuesday.

The Mirror quotes Swansea boss Graham Potter as saying: "Jordan has not been here, so that tells you he is not part of what we are trying to do by his own actions.

"It's really whether we can get a good enough deal for the club, otherwise it's going to be an interesting time for him. We know the situation and we are trying to find a solution."

Fulham have offered £8m for Celta Vigo right-back for Hugo Mallo, according to The Times.

Palace defender: Fulham are in the Premier League for a reason and we won't take them lightly

Eagles defender insists Fulham will not be an easy game for the season opener

Joel Ward says Crystal Palace will not be taking Fulham lightly when the two sides meet at Craven Cottage on Saturday.

The Eagles make the short trip to west London for their opening game of the new Premier League season, with the two sides set to do battle at Craven Cottage in a London derby.

It will be Fulham's first game in the top flight for four years, and coincidentally will be against the team they last faced in the Premier League back in May 2014.

But Ward insists that facing a newly-promoted side on the opening day will be far from easy for Palace, who found that out last season when they lost 3-0 at home to Huddersfield Town on the opening day.

And the Palace defender says the Eagles will be doing all they can to avoid a repeat this time around.

"I think Fulham showed their quality last season in the Championship and I am sure they will show their quality this season as well," he said.

"It won't be an easy game. They are in the Premier League for a reason and you can never take that lightly."

Palace boss Roy Hodgson has also warned of the "severe test" his side will face at Craven Cottage - a stadium he knows well from his time as Fulham boss.

And he says his players must be prepared for a tough test against Slavisa Jokanovic's side, who have invested well this summer after beating Aston Villa in the play-off final back in May.

Arsenal defender Chambers explains surprise Fulham move

Calum Chambers said he was "really excited" to join Fulham after arriving on a season-long loan deal from Arsenal.

The 23-year-old leaves the Gunners to join the newly-promoted Premier League side where he could link up in central defence with former England Under-21 team-mate Alfie Mawson.

Chambers told fulhamfc.com: "I watched a lot of Fulham last season, I really like the way they play football, there's a good manager, it's a great club, so I'm really excited for the season ahead.

"Everyone can see that Fulham's a club that likes to play football, play football from the back, through the lines. That's the style of football I like as well, so I think it fits me and suits the way I play."

Fulham, managed by Slavisa Jokanovic, have been active in the transfer market since they secured a Premier League return via the play-offs, bringing in Mawson from Swansea plus Jean Michael Seri, Maxime Le Marchand, Fabri and Andre Schurrle.

Mawson and Chambers paired up for England at the European Under-21 Championships in 2017, while the move to Craven Cottage could also re-ignite a senior England career for Chambers.

Chambers won three England caps in the space of two months in 2014 but has been out of the international picture during Gareth Southgate's time as manager.

Southgate knows all about Chambers, however, from his time as England Under-21 boss.

Fulham director of football operations Tony Khan added: "Calum is a versatile defender with Premier League experience, and the combination of his strong data profile and the positive reports from our scouting department confirm that he's a tremendous talent."

Fulham have submitted €10m bid, player pondering, contract extension could keep him

Fulham are interested in signing Celta Vigo defender Hugo Mallo, if claims in Spain are to be believed.

Catalan newspaper Mundo Deportivo reports the newly promoted Premier League club have already made an offer for the player.

The defender has three years left on his contract at Abanca-Balaídos and Slaviša Jokanovic's side have already submitted a bid of €10m for the Spaniard. The report doesn't mention if the La Liga outfit accepted the English club's offer for the 27-year-old.

Mundo Deportivo claims only a contract extension with the 'consequent economic improvement' will convince Mallo to continue with Antonio Mohamed's side. If they decide against offering him a new deal, it would likely improve Fulham 's chances of securing his services.

The Cottagers have already seen their right-back Ryan Fredericks join West Ham United earlier in the transfer window. They have Cyrus Christiea as the recognised right-back in the squad, while Calum Chambers, who joined Fulham on loan from Arsenal, can also play in that position.

Report: Fulham make £9m bid for Celta Vigo captain Hugo Mallo

The underrated Hugo Mallo could potentially move to the Premier League with Fulham after nine years in La Liga with Celta Vigo.

The common consensus is that Fulham have aced the transfer window so far. But it must be pointed out that they have not yet signed a right-back to replace the influential Ryan Fredericks, although Arsenal loanee Callum Chambers can fill in if required.

Although it seems that the Cottagers are looking for a more natural option before the window slams shut. And, according to Marca, Fulham want Celta Vigo's Hugo Mallo and have offered £9 million to bring him to Craven Cottage.

The 27-year-old is a real fans favourite at the Balaidos, making 301 appearances for Celta since his debut almost a decade ago.

But the former Spain U21 international could be at the perfect time to try his hand abroad after a number of excellent seasons in Galicia.

Mallo is one of the more underrated players in Spanish football and enjoyed his best season ever in terms of assists in 2017/18, setting up five in 34 La Liga appearances. Aggressive and attack-minded, he has the talent to fill the void left by Fredericks' free transfer to West Ham.

Mallo is not the only Celta player who could move to England this week with striker Maxi Gomez linked with West Ham and Slanislav Lobotka tipped to join Tottenham.

Max Meyer forced to wait for Crystal Palace debut due to fitness concerns

New Crystal Palace signing Max Meyer is unlikely to be fit for the start of the new season.

The German midfielder joined Palace last week but he is still in the early stages of his pre-season training and he is not set to play in their opener against Fulham on Saturday.

Meyer was a free agent after he left Schalke at the end of last season and he did not train with a club over the summer.

The 22-year-old took part his first training session with Palace last Friday but he was not involved in their pre-season friendly win over Toulouse last Saturday and he is still building up his fitness.

His progress is being monitored closely by Palace but it is thought the game against Fulham at Craven Cottage will come too soon for him.

Cheikhou Kouyate, another summer signing at Palace, is pushing to be fit for the start of the season following his £10million move from West Ham.

The midfielder admitted last week that he did not know if he would be ready to face Fulham after he had an extended summer break after captaining Senegal at the World Cup.

Arsenal head coach Unai Emery explains decision to loan Calum Chambers to Fulham

Unai Emery believes Calum Chambers requires a season of regular first team football if he is to realise his potential at Arsenal.

The England international signed a new long-term contract last month amid reports that Arsene Wenger's successor had earmarked him to play a significant role in the first team this season.

After investing heavily in a major summer overhaul, however, which has seen the likes of Stephan Lichtsteiner, Bernd Leno and Sokratis Papastathopoulos join, Emery has sanctioned Chambers' temporary departure.

Explaining his decision, Emery said: 'Calum is a talented defender who has a bright future.

'We all believe this loan at Fulham will be an important part of his development and wish him a successful season.'

Arsenal are now expected to press ahead with their attempts to sign Croatia World Cup star Domagoj Vida from Beskitas, whose president Fikret Orman is currently in London negotiating a deal.

Exclusive: London club table £14m bid for Southampton player

Fulham have made an improved £14million bid for Southampton defender Matt Targett, Football Insider sources understands.

Fulham have seen several offers rejected for Targett already this summer as they look to bring the defender back to Craven Cottage.

Targett enjoyed a successful spell at Fulham last season, helping them win promotion to the Premier League with a number of impressive displays at left-back.

Fulham boss Slavisa Jokanovic has made Targett one of his top priorities this summer as he looks to strengthen his squad for the challenge of the Premier League.

The West London side have now substantially improved their offer to £14million as they look to persuade Southampton to sell the 22-year-old.

Southampton are reluctant to sell Targett, but they are considering cashing in on the left-back to maybe fund some of their own transfer plans before the close of the transfer window.

Report: Crystal Palace and Fulham battling for £12m Jordan Ayew

Swansea City striker Jordan Ayew is still a Premier League target with Crystal Palace and Fulham reportedly keen before the transfer window shuts.

Jordan Ayew has been relegated three times in the last six years with Sochaux, Aston Villa and Swansea City.

But it seems that Crystal Palace and Fulham are willing to overlook this worrying omen as they aim to beef up their attacking ranks before Thursday's transfer deadline.

According to the Mirror, the London clubs are going head-to-head to sign the Ghanaian international, who has allegedly gone AWOL from Swansea in an attempt to force a move back to the Premier League.

The South Wales side want £12 million for a player who scored 11 goals last season.

Sky Sports reported in June that Fulham had an £8 million bid rejected for Ayew, while Crystal Palace's attempts to land him in a swap deal with Jairo Riedewald fell through when the Dutchman rejected a move to the Liberty Stadium, according to the Sun (2 August, page 51).

So it is clear that Fulham and Palace must now increase their offers and meet Swansea's asking price if they want to bring Ayew to either Craven Cottage or Selhurst Park.

A quick and versatile attacker, he would give the clubs some extra options in attack as they aim to secure Premier League survival next season.

Fulham in talks to sign Serie B left back, need to increase offer for Norway international

According to a claim in the Italian media, Fulham are looking to sign Palermo defender Haitam Aleesami before tomorrow's transfer deadline.

It's been well documented Fulham want to strengthen in their fullback areas, and it seems the Norwegian left back is a possibility for the West London club.

Gazzetta dello Sport today report on Palermo's transfer activity and they say Fulham are in talks with the Serie B side with regards to signing Aleesami.

It's claimed the Premier League side have already offered €1.5m, but Palermo are looking for €3m. It's expected negotiations will continue, with the possibility a deal could be done before the English transfer window closes.

Aleesami signed for Palermo in 2016 and has played over sixty league games for the Sicilian club. However, with Palermo failing to get promotion back to Serie A last season he could look to move on.

The 27 year old has been capped 16 times by his country.

'Jean-Michael Seri reminds me of Clarence Seedorf' - The bold claim that will excite Fulham fans

Jean-Michael Seri signed for Fulham despite being linked with Chelsea and is a statement of intent from Fulham this season

The signing of Jean-Michael Seri showed Fulham's ambition for this season - and former boss Rene Meulensteen is reminded of Clarence Seedorf by the Ivory Coast man.

Seedorf, who has been named as the manager of the Cameroon national team, is regarded as one of the best midfielders of his generation having won the Champions League four times with three different clubs during his spells at Ajax, Real Madrid and AC Milan.

And countryman Meulensteen, who managed Fulham for a few months in 2013/14, has compared the side's new signing, Seri, to the former Milan midfielder - claiming they've got an 'absolute steal'.

Seri was linked to some big clubs in the transfer window, with west London neighbours Chelsea heavily linked, while a move to Barcelona last season fell through at the last minute and has been described as the Ivory Coast's Xavi in the past.

It's an extremely exciting signing for all those involved in Fulham as they prepare for their first Premier League season in four years, and Meulensteen believes the way the club have gone about the summer has been brilliant.

Speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live, Meulensteen said: "I tell you what, Jean-Michael Seri, an absolute steal, in my opinion. He is a top six, if not a top three player.

Jean Michael Seri of Fulham (Image: Mike Hewitt/Getty Images)

"He reminds me of Clarence Seedorf – he's got that guile and moves the ball – and Fulham's got him. Fantastic.

"[Slavisa] Jokanovic has been brilliant. What he's done – he's gone in and said, 'Listen if you want to stay in here [the Premier League], we need to make sure we're covered in all positions and you're going to give us the best possible chance'.

"But looking at what they've spent and to bring Schurrle in as well and now Chambers on loan, they've got some good players already, play some good football, so yeah, looking forward to it."

New Role For Davies
(http://ffcw001.azureedge.net/-/media/ex-players/digger622rexfeatures_8475284k.jpg?w=622&h=278)

While Saturday afternoon at Craven Cottage marks a new era at Fulham Football Club, there will also be an air of nostalgia around the place.

Roy Hodgson and Ray Lewington will be in the away dugout, Brede Hangeland will be on the gantry doing commentary for TV2, and another Whites legend will also be present.

This season sees Simon Davies take on a role as matchday host in our hospitality lounges, starting in the Super Box for the Crystal Palace game, where he will be catching up with supporters on everything from the Great Escape to scoring in the UEFA Europa League Final.

For Simon, he's relishing the opportunity to get back in amongst it at the Club where he spent six-and-a-half largely successful years.

"I'm looking forward to it," he told fulhamfc.com. "I always enjoyed a good relationship with the Fulham fans so it's going to be nice to catch up and share some stories with them.

"I kind of left a bit under the radar and never came back really which was sad for me personally, but that was just the way it worked out.

"I was injured for the majority of the last season I was there, then retired and just sort of walked away from it.

"But the memories I have from my time at Fulham are really special to me and it's nice to be back involved now, it really is.

"I had such good times at Fulham that it's nice to have links to the Club again. I came to the Cottage for the Sunderland game towards the end of last season and it was great to be back for that."

Davies' best years with the Whites came under the stewardship of Hodgson.

He won the Club's Player of the Season award in 2007/08, helped the team to a highest ever league finish of seventh the following term, before scoring in both the Semi-Final and Final of the Europa League in 2010.

Unsurprisingly, the former winger is keen to catch up with his old boss at the weekend.

"I was speaking to my mum and dad about it the other day actually," he said. "I'm going to make a point, if I can, to go over and say hello to him.

"It would be nice to get over to the Cottage and see him and Ray Lewington again – it would be great.

"The last time I saw Roy was the morning after the Europa League Final. He said 'see you next season' but obviously things can move very fast in football and next thing we know he's off to Liverpool!

"So I'm going to make a point of trying to see him on Saturday as it would be great to catch up.

"Hopefully I can see Brede as well. He's a great guy who I got on very well with when we were at the Club together, so it would be fantastic to see him."

Don't miss the chance to bend Simon's ear about his memorable stint in SW6!

Priced at £269 (+VAT) per person, your Super Box ticket will include fully inclusive beers, wine and soft drinks throughout the day, a hot and cold buffet, balcony seating, and more.

Lydia's Premier League Preview

It feels very good getting to write a Premier League Preview this season, am I right? As much as I will miss the unpredictability and drama of the Championship (just take last nights game between Nottingham Forest and West Brom as an example of the dramatic) it is so exciting to be once again competing against some of the Worlds best.

I was planning on putting this piece up after the transfer window slams shut tomorrow evening but work commitments have gotten in the way of my Fulham recreation so you'll have to make do with my preview being incomplete in terms of transfers.

Premier League Champions 2018/19 – Manchester City
For the second season in a row I just can't look past Manchester City as the overall winners, but I do think their competition will be closer this year. With the remarkable money that Liverpool have spent they really have to challenge this year and if they can keep Salah fit and allow the new boys to adapt then they could do some damage. However, I still think that City have the better squad and under Pep they are unplayable at times. Last year they weren't challenged so it will be interesting to see if they can handle a title threat, but with the way they just kept blowing teams out of the water I just can't see anyone taking the trophy off them.

Most Improved – West Ham United
After an awful season where they nearly dropped down to the Championship and had fan protest on the pitch as well as off it, the Hammers and heavily invested in their squad. Pellegrini is a good manager and they have backed him wisely. They finished 13th last season, but if things go well with the squad they now have I reckon they could be in Burnley's position from last season.

Biggest Loser – Burnley and Newcastle United
What I mean by this is the team who drops the most places from last season. It's really a toss up between Newcastle United and Burnley, but for different reasons.

Burnley will be safe from relegation, but often when a team plays in Europe for the first time their league form suffers so I can see them dropping as many as five places from 7th to 12th. Losing Nick Pope to injury was a blow and it's now down to Joe Hart, who has had a rough few years, to fill the gap. Ben Gibson was a bit of a strange signing and won't massively improve them while Matej Vydra could prove to be a shrewd piece of business if he can find the net even nearly as frequently as he did in the Championship. Smallish squad, possible European commitments and the fact that they overachieved last season means that they will drop places, but will still be comfortably safe.

Newcastle, on the other hand, could be in for a torrid season and I fully expect them to be in a relegation battle. There are worse squads out there so I'm not backing them for relegation but this could change if Benitez decides that enough is enough. I feel for Newcastle fans, as they have the size and stature of a club that could be real heavyweights, but their owner seems to have no desire to improve the squad leading to frustration on and off the pitch.

Relegation looming – Cardiff, Huddersfield and Brighton
Second season syndrome for both Huddersfield and Brighton, while Cardiff could go straight back down. I think it will be a real scrap with a lot of teams in the mix come May which could make for an absorbing, but at times stressful, battle. Watford have lost Richarlison but his replacement in Deulofeu was a decent piece of business. Crystal Palace have brought in Max Meyer and Cheikhou Kouyate so I feel that they will have enough to avoid the drop. Wolves and ourselves, despite having brilliant windows, could be brought back down to earth when up against better opposition. Both sides should stay up, but it isn't going to be plain sailing.

I just don't think Brighton or Huddersfield have done enough in the tranfser window to really improve from last year while others have. Brighton may have brought in plenty of faces, but we know that it is about quality rather than quantity and none of the signings really stand out in comparison to other clubs who could be in the mix. Cardiff have brought in four players who I would be thrilled with if I was building a team for promotion from the Championship rather than Premier League survival. They should be tough to beat, but I don't think that's enough.

And what about Fulham?
Finally Premier League football returns to the banks of the Thames and Fulham have thankfully invested in their squad as well as keeping Cairney, Sess and Mitro away from prying eyes. Slav seems to be reasonably happy despite not having cover for the defensive midfield position- and 'reasonably happy' is likely the best that we can hope for from the moody Serb. The signings of Schurrle and Seri in particular seem to have shown Fulham desire to stay in this division for a long time, while bringing in Mawson and Chambers should improve one of the weaker aspects of our squad. I'm absolutely buzzing to see Ryan Sessegnon finally grace the Premier League and fully back him to make an impact.

We have to be realistic though. Our first target will be getting points on the board early to help us along to the goal of survival. Without a doubt there will be more losses than last year and we won't have the same levels of possession as we became accustomed to throughout our stint in the Championship. But I do think that we have plenty of reasons to be confident and I expect us to be safe- at least- come May.

Bring it on.

Fulham's best and worst deadline day scenarios: Targett returns while further depth is added

The transfer window closes on Thursday - we've taken a look at the best and worst case scenarios for Fulham

This summer transfer window has been one that Fulham fans will remember for a long time.

After a slow start, the club's recruitment department, led by Tony Khan, have added eight new faces to the side so far, with the captures of Jean-Michael Seri and Andre Schurrle just two of the new men that have turned heads.

Aleksandar Mitrovic has returned from Newcastle United, while the defence has been strengthened with the signings of Alfie Mawson and Calum Chambers, while Maxime Le Marchand has come in from Nice.

But as well as incomings, there have been little in the way out of outgoings.

Tom Cairney signed a new deal, as did Tim Ream and Kevin McDonald, while talks continue over Ryan Sessegnon and Slavisa Jokanovic's contracts.

Add all that together, and you've got a strong side for the Premier League this season, but there is still work to be done at Motspur Park ahead of the Thursday August 9 5pm deadline.

We've taken a look at what the worst and best case scenarios could be for Fulham ahead of Thursday's deadline.

We'll start with the unlikely worst case one.

Image: Mike Hewitt/Getty Images)

Worst case scenario

In short - no new signings come in.

Slavisa Jokanovic pressed home the need for strength in depth after Fulham's final pre-season game against Celta Vigo, saying they needed cover for Mitrovic up front and a left back.

In a worst case scenario for Fulham, none of this much-needed depth will be signed on the final day for one reason or another.

(Image: Steve Bardens/Getty Images)

McDonald has stressed the need for depth too, saying that the club need two players in each position, while it's his position of that holding midfield role that is in itself one of the areas that needs reinforcements ahead of the deadline.

A usual worst case scenario would be one of the key players leaving, but if we are being realistic, I can't see anyway that will happen on deadline day, so there's no point in including an outgoing player in here.

The club still needs a new left back desperately, while cover in the midfield and up front wouldn't go amiss either.

A worst case deadline day will see none of these come in, and the day will finish with no Twitter message from Tony Khan on transfers.

Best case scenario

Matt Targett signs on the dotted line at 9am on Thursday morning, solving both the left back problem and a day of 'will he, won't he' amongst fans on social media.

Out of all the full backs Fulham have been linked with, I still think Targett is the best fit for the side - he knows the system from last season, he fitted in well with the team and has shown the quality he possesses down the flank with Sessegnon in front of him.

(Image: Catherine Ivill/Getty Images)

Elsewhere, a striker is also signed to add depth to the options Jokanovic has available to him heading into the new season, meaning when plan A, which is to use Mitrovic as the focal point, isn't work, the head coach can turn to plan B to try get Fulham through some difficult spots - which will happen in the Premier League.

A new central midfielder walks through the reception door at Motspur Park at midday to sign for Fulham, while McDonald wipes nervous sweat from his forehead knowing he will have help in that position and won't be expected to try and dominate the likes of Eden Hazard, Wilfried Zaha and Kevin Du Bruyne all by himself this season.

As the clock heads towards 5pm, a surprise signing also springs up as Fulham announce a right back to provide competition to Cyrus Christie in that slot, which is looking a bit short if we assume that Steven Sessegnon and Marlon Fossey aren't ready for the top flight just yet.

The day ends with a stirring message from Tony Khan on Twitter on the business done this summer while looking forward to the start of the new season on Saturday against Crystal Palace, ending in the usual fashion of 'Come on Fulham!'

Jokanovic, meanwhile, walks into Friday's press conference with a large smile on his face and sings the praises of the business done in the window while stating he is now looking forward to the job of guiding Fulham through their first Premier League season in four years.

Fulham then beat Palace 4-0 with Mitrovic scoring a brace, Seri banging a screamer and Chambers scoring from a corner.

Fulham Looking to Bring a Second Swansea Player To Craven Cottage Before Transfer Window Closes

The hinges on the summer transfer window are starting to creak, in a matter of hours it will slam shut.

As is the norm at this time of the year, we're expecting a plethora of wheeling and dealing to take place as clubs fight to make the last adjustments to their squads.

Here at Vital Fulham, we've watched on as our club has fared remarkably well in the window, bringing in seven signings that should serve us well in our return to the Premier League.

But, with the window so close to slamming shut, can we expect any more deals to be completed?

Well, according to the popular tabloid publication, the Mirror, Fulham are taking a keen interest in bringing the Swansea City striker, Jordan Ayew, to West London.

Ayew, 26-years-of-age, is currently in some sort of stand-off with Swansea and is refusing to train until he gets a move.

However, Fulham are not the only Premier League club interested in the player with our source suggesting Roy Hodgson, over at Crystal Palace, is also interested in acquiring the services of the striker.

Now whether Jordan Ayew has aspirations of joining his former team-mate, Alfie Mawson, at Craven Cottage, only time will tell but any potential acquisition of the player could give our striking options some added depth which can only be beneficial when there is a long competitive season ahead of us. Although we should point out we're not impressed with his current stance of refusing to train with the Championship side.

Here at Vital Fulham we'll keep a watchful eye out for any developments and report back as deemed necessary.

Tottenham Failed With Bid For Fulham Talent Despite Throwing Danny Rose Into Mix

Tottenham Hotspur offered to send Danny Rose to Fulham as part of a deal to sign Ryan Sessegnon earlier in the summer, but no agreement was reached.

The 18-year-old left-back-cum-left-winger is considered one of the brightest young talents in English football and played a marquee role in helping Fulham return to the Premier League.

Despite his tender years, he has 82 appearances for Fulham under his belt and has attracted the interest of clubs such as Manchester United and Tottenham.

And according to the BBC, Tottenham made a concrete move to land the young star earlier this summer, but couldn't agree a deal with the newly promoted Premier League outfit.

It has been claimed that Tottenham tabled a bid involving Rose joining Fulham as part of a deal to sign Sessegnon several weeks ago, but two clubs did not reach an agreement.

Spurs have been keen to offload England left-back Rose all summer and unsuccessfully tried swapping him with Fulham for the teenage winger.

There are suggestions that Tottenham could make a big deadline day bid, but Fulham are confident that they won't be losing their young star this summer.

The Cottagers believe Sessegnon wants to play at least one season of top flight football with the club.

EXCLUSIVE: Newcastle look to loan Liverpool star and target Wolves winger

Newcastle are hoping to bolster their attacking options further before the transfer window shuts with both Danny Ings and Ivan Cavaleiro in their sights, TEAMtalk has been told.

England international Ings has been told he can leave Liverpool by Jurgen Klopp, who is looking for around £20million for a striker who rates highly.

Southampton and Crystal Palace are keen but not at Liverpool's price – whilst Newcastle have also stepped in but again they would not get anywhere near £20m. We have learnt Rafa Benitez's side have asked Liverpool about a loan deal with a view to a permanent deal, given the player's injury record.

Newcastle, who asked Arsenal if they can take Danny Welbeck earlier this summer, are also now in for Portuguese international winger Ivan Cavaleiro.

The 24-year-old has already snubbed interest from Huddersfield this summer, whilst Fulham are also keen.

Now after Wolves snapped up Adama Traore from Middlesbrough, his future looks increasingly uncertain and Rafa Benitez would love to take him to  St James' Park.

Newcastle are willing to offer Wolves cash, which they may be tempted by as they look to make further signings themselves before Thursday's deadline.

Hugo Mallo has "offer of his life" to join Fulham, explains source close to player

Fulham have been linked with so many fullbacks this window, with many of the claims seeming trustable, that it's possible the Cottagers can't remember each one.

Hugo Mallo is one of the deadline candidates, and it was claimed in several Spanish newspapers on Wednesday that Fulham have made a €10m offer to Celta Vigo for the player.

A 27 year old right back, Mallo has been at Celta all his career so won't have been bringing in huge money relative to many other footballers.

The chance to join Fulham, play in the Premier League, and see a big rise in income would obviously be very tempting, and that's what a source close to the player has told La Voz de Galicia.

Celta Vigo's local paper quote the source as saying: "He does not want to lose the offer of his life. We have to wait and see what the club says."

That doesn't mean Mallo would cause trouble if the move fails, with the source then talking up the possibility of a renewal: "If they do it and it is in accordance with what he deserves, Hugo will not have any problem in renewing.

"Of course he would like to continue in Vigo, he has been in the club twelve or thirteen years, ten in the first team, but he is also a professional. He wants to secure his future and that of his family and he has it on the table. He does not want to lose the contract of his life."

Mallo wants the money, which is understandable, and if Celta don't let him get it at Fulham then it's clear he expects a big new contract to make up for that.

EXCLUSIVE: Fulham make inflated new bid for Matt Targett

TEAMtalk can reveal Fulham have made new £14million bid for Southampton defender Matt Targett.

Fulham, who have already added Jean-Michael Seri, Fabri, Andre Schurrle, Aleksandar Mitrovic and Alfie Mawson to their squad, but they are intent on adding 22-year-old left-back.

Sam McQueen, 23, a target for Bristol City, has subsequently been told he can't leave Southampton on loan this month due to Targett's impending move.

TEAMtalk revealed that Fulham made an improved £12million offer for Targett at the end of July.

Former England Under-21 ace Targett was hugely impressive for the Cottagers last season as he ended the season on-loan at Craven Cottage – helping them to promotion.

Fulham opened talks at the end of the season, but such was his form that Southampton decided they wanted to keep him and let McQueen leave instead.

Now though with such an offer on the table Saints are set to sell Targett to Fulham, after the west London club failed to make inroads on Manchester City's Oleksandr Zinchenko and Ludwig Augustinsson of Werder Bremen.

Andre Schurrle: 'West London feels like home'

Fulham forward Andre Schurrle has revealed that he is excited about being back in West London for the next two seasons.

The German World Cup winner, who was previously a Chelsea player, left the Blues for Wolfsburg in 2015 and has since been playing with Borussia Dortmund.

Following the completion of a two-year loan deal from Dortmund to the Cottagers, however, the 27-year-old told The Sun that he is "really looking forward to the season".

"When I look back, maybe I would change some things. Maybe the move to Germany was too early and I should have stayed at Chelsea a bit longer," Schurrle said. "But like this time, you have options and you either take them or leave them. I took them because I had a good offer at a good club in Germany.

"But the way I felt here in London with the supporters who gave me so much love — that was something I was thinking about when I came back here. The support was amazing.

"I know all the places here, I have friends here. I have all the stuff that I need and I'm really looking forward to the season."

Schurrle won the Premier League title and a League Cup crown while at Chelsea.

Wolves have spent big on Adama Traore - but there's still no comparison to Ryan Sessegnon

Lots was made of the two when Fulham faced Middlesbrough in January - but with both now in the Premier League Sessegnon still comes out on top

Fellow Premier League new boys Wolves have signed Adama Traore from Middlesbrough for £18million - but back in January the Ryan Sessegnon vs Traore debate was one of the talking points of the Championship.

The two came head-to-head in a showdown at the Riverside, where Sessegnon, who eventually ended the season with 16 goals, played at left back while Traore started the game on the right wing, and the duel got tongues wagging on the terrace.

At the time, I saw one Boro fan claiming Sessegnon was a ruder version of the word 'rubbish' while others claimed Wolves' new rapid winger was worth more than Fulham's wonderkid could ever be.

The two came up against one another for the first 45 minutes, and Traore's sheer pace and ability with the ball at his feet was clear to see, he turned Fulham inside-out and caused Sessegnon all sorts of problems defensively.

And that's where the key issue people are getting wrong on this debate is - Sessegnon isn't being chased by the likes of Tottenham and Manchester United for his defensive abilities.

When the team sheets came out and Sessegnon was at left back again, it was clear to see that he was in for a tough time against someone like Traore, who would cause even the best left back in the league serious problems.

But for all the forays down the wing, Traore and Middlesbrough still had a grand total of zero strikes on target.

(Image: Marc Atkins/Getty Images)

And that, for me, is where Sessegnon leaves Traore in the dust - the 17-year-old has end product, whereas Troare doesn't.

He's played 40 times for both Middlesbrough last season having come to England for around £7m in 2015, and the only goals he's scored in that time was a League Cup strike against Notts County for Villa, while he bagged just the five for Boro last term.

Sessegnon, meanwhile, has played over 60 times since breaking through into the first team, scoring 20 goals and ended last season a the top of the scoring charts for his side with 16, while also having a hand in every goal Fulham scored in the play-offs.

Adama Traore (Image: Evening Gazette)

When you look at it based on that alone, there's no comparison really.

Another thing that I saw from the game at the Riverside is the difference in conditioning between the two, it's true that Traore was the key player in the first half, but he looked a spent force in the second 45 and was barely noticed.

Sessegnon, meanwhile, played nearly ever minute for Fulham this season, and once he was moved to left wing continued to cause problems right through to the final minutes of the game.

(Image: Adam Davy/PA Wire)

It's that ability, at the age of 18, to play that many minutes first team football in the Championship, recover, and then do it all over again that makes Sessegnon so special.

Traore is a fantastic player, there's no doubting it, and if he had an end product to his game he'd be a top Premier League player, but you can't really compare him to Sessegnon, someone who is four years younger remember.

I saw someone say that if Sessegnon is rated at £50m, what does make Traore worth.

Considering the 21-year-old's transfer fees already add up to nearly £30m, I think the real question is how much does that make Sessegnon worth?

From Spain: Fulham set to sign Sevilla player on loan for season

Claimed to be one of the goalkeepers Chelsea were looking at to replace Courtois before they decided to spend €80m on Kepa Arrizabalaga from Athletic Bilbao, Sergio Rico will still be going to London.

However, instead of heading to Stamford Bridge, the Sevilla shot stopper will be transferring to Craven Cottage, according to Cadena SER journalist Yago de Vega.

Taking to Twitter to reveal the information, the reporter explains Rico is expected to sign for Fulham on loan for the season, where he will join Fabri, who recently signed from Besiktas for just over £5m.

The deal taking him to London will not include an option to buy, meaning he will mostly likely be a stop gap, providing ample competition, until Slavisa Jokanovic finds adequate backup for his starter going forward.

The 24-year-old was in and out of the Sevilla first team under both Vincenzo Montella and Eduardo Berizzo last season, but still made 24 league appearances for the La Liga outfit.

'CRUCIAL' talkSPORT exclusive: Alfie Mawson believes Aleksandar Mitrovic will be of huge importance to Fulham this season

Mawson, who completed his move to Fulham from Swansea last week, also talked up what Andre Schurrle will offer to talkSPORT's Jim White

Alfie Mawson says Aleksandar Mitrovic will be crucial for Fulham ahead of the 2018/19 Premier League season.

Fulham have been exceptionally busy in the transfer market since winning promotion back to the Premier League in May – making seven signings which include Mawson and Mitrovic.

Mitrovic scored 12 goals in 17 appearances in the Championship last season

The defender completed his £20million move to Craven Cottage last week but admitted to being impressed by what he's seen of the Serbian already.

Mitrovic joined the Cottagers on a permanent deal from Newcastle after a successful loan spell during the second half of last season while Fulham were vying for promotion from the Championship.

Speaking to talkSPORT's Jim White, Mawson said: "He [Mitrovic] is a big man! He's 23-years-old and built like an absolute body builder and is as strong as an ox.

"Against Celta Vigo on Saturday their centre-half has looked to go tight on him, but he's thrown the defender off the ball and wrapped one in from about 25 yards.

Mawson was also excited about what Schurrle has to offer

"It's always good to have that because this club is renowned for its ball playing ability but to have a target man like him will be crucial this season."

Mawson also sung the praises of Andre Schurrle – who joined the club on a two-year loan deal from Borussia Dortmund earlier this summer.

And Mawson claimed that the team are expecting a lot from him but was confident the German would thrive off that.

Mawson added: "Schurrle obviously speaks for himself. He's a World Cup winner and has played at some top top clubs.

"He's been in London in his career already and maybe he's made a decision to come to a club that is more suited to him.

"We're expecting a lot from him and he's going to thrive off that."

SHOCK SWAP Tottenham offered Fulham Danny Rose in attempt to land Ryan Sessegnon – reports

The revelations were made by BBC Sport journalist David Ornstein

Tottenham offered Fulham Danny Rose in an attempt to land highly-rated teenager Ryan Sessegnon according to BBC Sport journalist David Ornstein.

Sessegnon, 18, was linked with moves to a number of top Premier League clubs at the start of this summer's transfer window, however, these rumours appear to have cooled in recent weeks.

But Fulham are still concerned there could be a huge bid for Sessegnon coming up despite the fact the window closes at 5pm tomorrow.

Bleacher Report's Dean Jones tweeted how this was the mood inside the Fulham camp and this sparked the incredible revelations from Ornstein that Spurs tried to persuade the Cottagers to agree to Sessegnon/Rose swap deal.

However, Ornstein went onto reveal that the newly-promoted Premier League side rejected this offer and Sessegnon will stay at the club for this transfer window at least.

Fulham round-up: Two eyed in late swoop, one major concern
Slavisla Jokanovic's hunt for a new defender rumbles on.

Targett the target

Fulham are not giving up in their pursuit of a new full-back and continue to chase a familiar name, with a late approach made to tempt Southampton into approving a departure for Matt Targett after his successful loan stint in West London last term.

TeamTalk state that the Cottagers have made an improved bid worth around £14m to the Saints for the services of the 22-year-old, who played a key-part in the club's playoff triumph last season by crafting a stellar partnership down the left side with Ryan Sessegnon.

It's also added that Southampton may be able to a deal after informing Sam McQueen he cannot leave on loan, as he would be required as cover for Ryan Bertrand if Targett leaves.

Sessegnon stress

Deadline Day brings optimism and concern, with Fulham fans set to learn that in the next 24 hours as rumours circulating around the services of starlet Ryan Sessegnon heat up as the final hours of the transfer window.

According to The Mirror (Live blog, 13:36), Fulham are increasingly worried that Tottenham Hotspur could make a late swoop to try and lure Sessegnon across London – with the report adding that a bid is being prepared.

The 18-year-old has already made his intention to play for Fulham in the Premier League clear, which can ease some nerves.

Schurrle's homecoming

Moving on to a man who's future is already resolved, Fulham secured a major coup with the capture of Germany World Cup winner Andre Schurrle on loan from Borussia Dortmund – bringing the former Chelsea man back to the Premier League.

It seems to have served as a homecoming to the 27-year-old, who revealed when speaking to The Sun that west London feels like home and admitted he may have been too hasty in leaving Stamford Bridge in 2015.

"Maybe the move to Germany was too early and I should have stayed at Chelsea a  bit longer. Yeah [it felt like a homecoming], somehow a little bit. For sure."

– Schurrle is thrilled to be back in the capital.

Mallo hopes for move

Fulham's search for a new full-back does not just orientate around Matt Targett, as the Cottagers are also attributed with an interest in Celta Vigo's Hugo Mallo – and the defender is hoping to secure a late move to the Premier League.

That's according to reports from La Voz de Galicia, who state that representatives of the 27-year-old have confirmed a 'very attractive' financial offer for the experienced defender and he does not want to let the opportunity pass him by.

However, it is also stated he would be thrilled to renew his deal with the LaLiga side.

Report: Fulham close to loan move for Sevilla's Sergio Rico

Fulham are reportedly close to signing Sevilla's Sergio Rico.

According to a report by AS, Fulham are close to agreeing a season-long loan deal for Sevilla goalkeeper Sergio Rico.

The report claims an obligated purchase clause in the loan contract hasn't been set yet, but Sevilla are seemingly happy to allow him to leave following the arrival of shot-stopper Tomas Vaclik from Basel.

Rico, a two-time Europa League winner with the club, has made over La Liga 100 starts for Sevilla including 40 appearances in all competitions last season.

The 24-year-old is widely regarded as one of the most promising goalkeepers in Spain, and it was only 12 months ago Premier League side Liverpool were said to be keen on bringing him to Anfield.

A report in ABC de Sevilla cited the Reds' interest in the player, but Sevilla weren't willing to sell him for a penny less than his £26 million release clause such was his importance to the Andalusian club.

But now it seems the La Liga side are happy to move him on with his situation at the club described as 'untenable' by the report in AS, despite the rapture he holds with the supporters.

Fulham have already signed a goalkeeper this summer in Fabricio from Besiktas, but Rico is arguably a class above and perhaps boss Slavisa Jokanovic sees it as an opportunity not to be missed.

The Cottagers are looking to consolidate themselves in the top-flight following their promotion from the Championship, and they've made a fist of it this summer having spent over £60 million already.

Fulham nearing loan swoop for Sergio Rico

Sevilla goalkeeper Sergio Rico is poised to join Fulham on a season-long loan deal tomorrow, according to reports in the Spanish press.

Rico, who has won two Europa League titles with Sevilla, is set to leave the Spanish side after they completed the capture of Tomas Vaclik from Basel. The 24 year-old goalkeeper, who has been heavily linked with a move to Liverpool and Chelsea among others in the past year, has made more than 100 appearances for Sevilla since coming through their academy and was the Andalusian side's number one last season.

Spanish sports newspaper AS says Sevilla are happy to let the fan favourite leave, although there is no option to buy in the proposed deal. Rico's arrival would make him the second Spanish goalkeeper that Fulham have bought during the transfer window, after the Whites signed Fabri from Besiktas for £5m earlier this summer. What this surprise move might mean for Marcus Bettinelli, who was Fulham's first choice goalkeeper as they won promotion back to the Premier League last season, remains to be seen. The Fulham academy graduate is currently injured, but looked likely to play second fiddle to Fabri in the early part of the season in any case.

Rico, widely regarded as one of Europe's most promising young goalkeepers, has a single cap for Spain, which came in a friendly win over South Korea back in 2016.

Fulham target Celta Vigo defender Hugo Mallo

Fulham boss Slavisa Jokanovic wants to sign Hugo Mallo from Celta Vigo

Fulham are targeting a pre-deadline deal to sign Celta Vigo right-back Hugo Mallo, according to Sky sources.

Whites boss Slavisa Jokanovic wants three more signings before the end of the window, including both full-back positions and a defensive midfielder.

Mallo is a former Spain U21 international who has been with Celta since 2009 and made over 300 appearances for them, scoring six goals.

Although they have Cyrus Christie, the Whites have needed a new right-back since losing Ryan Fredericks to West Ham on a free transfer earlier this summer.

At left-back, Fulham remain interested in Southampton's Matt Targett but sources have told Sky Sports News that reports of bids being lodged on Wednesday are not correct.

Fulham have also been interested in Real Madrid's Theo Hernandez on loan but he looks set to join fellow La Liga side Real Sociedad.

Reports in Italy on Wednesday claim Fulham are also keen on Palermo's Haitam Aleesami.

Fulham also remain keen to sign Wolfsburg's defensive-midfielder Josuha Guilavogui, according to Sky sources.

Couldn't Sit Back And Read Rumours – Fulham VP Comments On Tottenham Target Ryan Sessegnon

Fulham vice-chairman and director of football Tony Khan has crushed speculation that the club could sell Tottenham Hotspur target Ryan Sessegnon before the transfer window for Premier League clubs closes.

Premier League sides have until Thursday 5pm to complete incoming signings this summer and left-back-cum-left-winger Sessegnon has been linked with Spurs.

Tottenham reportedly tried to land Sessegnon earlier this summer, but saw Fulham rebuff their approach.

And Khan is keen to stamp on any speculation that there could be a change in stance on deadline day, vowing the youngster will not be sold.

The Fulham vice-chairman, annoyed at transfer rumours, wrote on Twitter: "We're not selling Ryan Sessegnon.

"We've never considered it!

"I couldn't sit back and read these false rumors anymore, had to say something.

"Ryan's key to this Fulham squad; he's one of the top young talents worldwide and in our plans for Premier League success.

"Come on Fulham!" Khan added.

Sessegnon, 18, has just a further two years remaining on his contract at Craven Cottage.

The teen talent played in every single one of Fulham's games in the Championship last season, scoring an impressive 16 goals as the London club booked a spot back in the lucrative Premier League.

Reports: Fulham signs goalkeeper Sergio Rico from Sevilla

Craven Cottage continues to be a hub of activity this summer as the wheeling and dealing from the Khan family continues.

Already with seven signings this transfer window, Fulham has gone out and reportedly grabbed another. According to reports in both Spain and England, the Whites have grabbed Sevilla goalkeeper Sergio Rico on loan. Upon completion, Rico would be Fulham's eighth signing of the summer and second goalkeeper inked this window. The signing is being reported by both AS in Spain and Sky Sports in England, among others.

The move is a slightly odd one. Fulham shelled out $5 million to sign Besiktas netminder Fabri, but the 30-year-old Spaniard has been shaky in his preseason appearances.

Considering Fabri's weak start in White, this move seems to suggest that the club was pushed by one of two possible factors: either Fabri's poor start was so alarming to the club that they felt obligated to make immediate amends, or incumbent starter Marcus Bettinelli is either injured or on his way out. 26-year-old Bettinelli, a former England U-21 international, was spectacular last season for Fulham in the Championship, snatching the starting job from David Button midway through the season and lost just two games of the 26 he started.

One would think, based on resumes, that Rico would come in and immediately become the starter. While Bettinelli is a local hero and a fan favorite, he doesn't have the track record that Rico does despite his young age. The Spaniard has made 170 total appearances for Sevilla since joining the senior team from the youth squad as a 20-year-old in 2014. In addition, it's possible Bettinelli is hurt, which may have triggered the transfer in the first place.

No matter the circumstances, the signing is a quality one for the Whites. Goalkeeper was one position that still felt shaky heading into the season, in part due to Fabri's unconvincing preseason. Now, it becomes yet another squad strength. The Whites have had a busy summer, signing the likes of midfielder Jean-Michael Seri, winger Andre Schurrle, and defenders Alfie Mawson and Calum Chambers.

On the other side of things, the departure of Rico is an odd one for Sevilla. Rico lost his starting spot late last season to 25-year-old David Soria, but he has since left for Getafe. If Rico does indeed head out as well, it would leave just 29-year-old Thomas Vaclik as the only goalkeeper left on the senior team.

Fulham attempt to hijack Bryan deal

Premier League side Fulham are attempting to hijack Joe Bryan's potential move to Aston Villa.

According to Bristol Post journalist Aidan McCartney, Fulham are trying to scupper his move to Villa Park.

The Bristol Post report that Fulham had an offer for Bryan rejected earlier today and are still looking to convince him to make the switch to Craven Cottage.

Bryan has completed a medical at Aston Villa, but his transfer to Villa Park is now in doubt with the lure of Premier League football potentially in line.

He has agreed personal terms with Aston Villa but is yet to officially seal the deal, leaving the door open for Fulham to snatch him up from Bristol City.

More updates are expected in the coming hours...

Fulham launch late Bryan bid

Fulham have made a dramatic late attempt to hijack Bristol City full back Joe Bryan's impending move to Aston Villa, according to reports this evening.

The 24 year-old left back had undergone a medical with Villa this afternoon and looked set to complete a rumoured £6m move to the Midlands, but the Premier League new boys have placed that transfer in jeopardy by tabling an offer of their own this evening. The Bristol Post says that Fulham's approach has been rejected by Bristol City, but that the Whites may come in with another offer and that City are willing to wait until the dying embers of the transfer window in order to secure the best deal for their defender.

Slavisa Jokanovic is desperate to bring a left back to Craven Cottage in the closing hours of the summer window to allow Ryan Sessegnon to line up on the left wing when the Londoners kick off their season against Crystal Palace on Saturday. Bryan, who enjoyed an outstanding season with Bristol City in the Championship last term, has been on Fulham's radar all summer and the Cottagers appear to have returned with interest after their attempts to lure Matt Targett away from Southampton have floundered.

Bryan, an attack-minded full back of the kind that is in vogue in the modern game, scored seven goals in 48 appearances last season as the Reds reached the League Cup semi-finals – famously scoring the first goal as Manchester United were beaten in the last eight tie at Ashton Gate. He has made 229 senior appearances since coming through the City academy and helped the club win both the League One title and the Football League Trophy in 2014/2015.

One in, one out: The Deadline Day deals Fulham should prioritise

Fulham have had one of the standout windows in the Premier League and they will be looking to have a strong deadline day. They have been ambitious in their recruitment and are already emerging as top-half contenders.

Although they have done the majority of their business, they will remain active until the final hours, as the board try to provide Slavisa Jokanovic with the strongest squad possible. There are few noticeably weak areas, but more depth is required for it to be a comfortable season.

The signing of Aleksandar Mitrovic was important after his success on loan at Craven Cottage. However, there isn't a lot of competition for him and that is an area that Fulham may look to address on the final day of the window.

Below, we discuss one potential arrival and one potential departure that would improve Fulham on deadline day.

Sign Tammy Abraham

There is likely to be a lot of loan movement on deadline day and Tammy Abraham is one of the best attacking prospects that remains on the market. He will realise that his game-time at Chelsea will be limited and at the age of 20, he is ready for regular first-team involvement.

Last season, he disappointed at Swansea City as he scored only five Premier League goals. However, he was playing in a poor team and the striker wasn't given as many starts as he would have expected. If he was in a team with a better attacking unit, he would be more effective in the top-flight.

Fulham would benefit from another striker joining the club before the deadline to provide competition for Mitrovic. Abraham is a different profile of striker who would offer dynamic movement and it would be beneficial to have that option in the squad.

The 20-year-old's brother joined Fulham last year and that connection could make the move appeal more to Abraham amid interest from other clubs. The Cottagers have one more Premier League loan spot and the Chelsea striker would make good use of it.

Sell Marcus Bettinelli

This would be harsh after his role in the club's promotion, but it is looking increasingly likely that Bettinelli will find himself as the third choice at Craven Cottage.

Sport report that Sevilla goalkeeper Sergio Rico is closing in on a loan move to Fulham and he is likely to arrive as number one after accumulating over 100 appearances for the La Liga club.

After the signing of Fabri earlier in the window, it is clear that Fulham pinpointed the goalkeeping position as an area of weakness and they haven't put their trust in Bettinelli. At the age of 26, it is too soon for him to accept a third-choice role for a Premier League club.

There are a number of Championship clubs that would be interested in Bettinelli if he becomes available for loan. The moment Rico signs, that may become a reality.

Aston Villa could face transfer heartbreak as Fulham hijack defender deal

Aston Villa have been keeping a keen eye on Bristol City City Full Back Joe Bryan during the transfer window, with many reports suggesting that the 24-year-old would be completing his move to Villa Park (Bristol Live). However, Fulham, who have been searching for a replacement left back, have swooped in with a last-minute offer.

Mr Bryan had reportedly undergone his medical at Aston Villa, with many fans under the impression that the young defender's move was set in stone. However, with a bid from Fulham which was put in today, could the deal be off at Villa Park.

It has been reported that the initial bid placed by Fulham had been rejected (Bristol Live), with no further news of other bids from the Cottagers today, we are unsure whether the South London club will be upping their bids, as the club are understood to have other defensive targets on their radar this transfer window.

Fulham, who've already completed an impressive seven signings during this transfer window, are looking for a replacement at left-back, following Matty Targett's loan spell coming to the end at the end of last season as the Whites clinched promotion back to the premier league.

It is understood that Targett is Fulham's number one priority to sign in order to retake the position in the 18/19 season, should he become available from Southampton. However, with just one day left of the transfer window, the deal is not looking positive, leading to Fulham potentially looking elsewhere for a suitable fullback.

Fulham 2018/19 preview: Home fortress, Dembele's successor and off-field success

After promotion to the Premier League via the Championship play-offs in May, Slavisa Jokanovic's Fulham side will be looking to make an impression in the top flight this year.

Ahead of the 2018/19 campaign, we caught up with fan podcast Cottage Talk to get the low-down on progress made on and off the pitch...

What do you make of your club's pre-season preparations, both on and off the pitch?

Off the pitch Fulham have done very well bringing in players we were not expecting to see.

The signing of Jean Michael Seri was quite a signing for the club with many bigger sides being linked to him throughout the summer transfer window.

Fulham play a possession-based style and that type of central, creative player is exactly who they needed to upgrade.

It is the same situation with the goalkeeper. Nothing against Marcus Bettinelli but now we have Fabri.

You also look at some of the other players who have been brought in, such as Andre Schurrle on a two-year loan deal.

He is a player who is coming back to the Premier League with a point to prove after losing Chelsea and following a poor season in Germany.

Also, with the return of Aleksandar Mitrovic, the first team now has that much-needed focal point. Meanwhile, Alfie Mawson also arrived for a good chunk of change from Swansea City.

Many of the signings the club have made have been tremendous. They are acting like a team who want to compete, rather than one that just wants to survive.

On the pitch, I consider it to be a work-in-progress. You have a team that did well in the Championship but the Premier League is a major step up.

The team is clearly growing through a period of meshing the previous squad together with those players who are known to be able to compete in the top flight.

Which of your club's summer signing has you most excited about the new campaign?

It would have to be Seri. Forget about the price tag, it is all about what he can offer the team.

If you go back to when Fulham had Mousa Dembele, who is now at Tottenham, losing him several years ago changed how the club were going to go.

With him, I feel the club would have survived in the Premier League and what did happen wouldn't have. He was the creative midfield player in that team, playing at a very high level.

His departure changed the path of the club. He was the piece that could have kept the ageing squad, at the time, moving forward.

For me, Seri is a player who can succeed in Jokanovic's possession style. The club needs that. I've seen it already in his passing ability and his bravery/willingness to take chances on the ball.

Who's your club's young-player-who-could-make-a-breakthrough this season?

There are three names who are still a work-in-progress but regularly training with the first team.

Firstly, there is Ryan Sessegnon's brother, Steven. He has been played in both full-back positions. He is a different type of player to his brother, and hasn't progressed as quickly, but he has the ability.

Another is United States international Marlon Fossey. He played very well by all accounts against Sampdoria, at right-back. I hadn't been expecting him to breakthrough this quickly but he is showing up in pre-season and starting to make some noise. I think he will be part of the mix in Jokanovic's first team.

Finally, you have Luca de la Torre. Like Fossey, he started off in the academy and his worked his way up. He is very versatile and very creative. Unfortunately, there are other players ahead of him in the first team pecking order, but like Sessegnon and Fossey I expect him to be involved somehow this season.

What will be your club's biggest factor behind achieving its targets this season?

The biggest factor will be to make Craven Cottage a fortress. One of the main reasons Fulham were able to sustain a Premier League place for so long was the club's form at home.

They need to be able to beat the teams they are expected to and limit the draws when playing with that advantage. This is essential for progression.

Another factor will be how the players react to not have the majority share of possession like they did in the Championship – how will they set up without the ball?

I have seen a little bit of a 'Plan B' throughout pre-season, particularly against Lyon, and I can see them being dangerous on the counter, with the speed and quality they possess.

What will be your club's biggest barrier to achieving its targets this season?

Defensively. Because they play an aggressive style it leaves them open to counters and getting burned badly.

The style of play will require them to defend, which has held them back in the past, based on mistakes. We saw it in the Championship and it could undoubtedly impact them at a higher level.

Which club outside yours do you think has done the best business this summer?

For me, it's Wolves. They have added to what they've got and I think they've brought in some really good players.

I'm really impressed with what they are building generally and I'm expecting top 10 from them next season – they're that good.

What they're doing at the Molineux is really special.

If you had to pick a six-a-side team from your club's current squad, who would be in it?

Finally, how do you think your team will have done come the end of the 2018/19 season?

When Fulham survived the great escape under Roy Hodgson in 2007, everyone believed they would only just manage to do the same again the year after – that didn't happen and they actually managed to come in the top 10.

With the club and the owner's ambition, with the clear motivation to do well in the top flight rather than just doing what's necessary to stay up, I think Fulham will be knocking on the door of the top half come the end of the campaign.

I think they can surprise many teams in the Premier League, so I'm saying 10th.

Highly-rated Bristol City defender has rejected Aston Villa and is set to sign for Fulham

Highly-rated Bristol City defender Joe Bryan has rejected Aston Villa and is set to sign for Fulham, according to journalist Pete O'Rourke.

Joe Bryan has walked out on a move to Aston Villa and is set to join Premiership side Fulham.

Aston Villa had beaten Newcastle United, Wolves and Derby County to sign highly-rated defender Joe Bryan from Bristol City and would have been a massive coup for Aston Villa, but Fulham have stolen him from them.

The deal Aston Villa agreed was £4million but would rise to £6million, but have struggled to agree personal terms with Fulham pouncing.

Fulham trying to sign the defender could be used as a smokescreen with Fulham instead choosing to pursue higher priority targets such as Matt Targett of Southampton, should they become available.

It looks like Bryan's future will not be resolved until the final hours of the window and a huge day lies in wait for the soon-to-be former Robin.

About Joe Bryan –
The left-back is a Bristol City academy product who suffered a leg break during the 2010/11 season.

After a multiple of impressive performances for the first team in 2014/15, Bryan was named in the PFA League One Team of the Season and earned himself a new deal until 2019.

Bryan continued his excellent displays a tier up and was awarded with the club's Young Player of the Year award for a second year running in 2015/16.

The versatile defender has proved useful in a number of positions but is now featuring most often as a left-back.

Joe Bryan made 48 appearances in all competitions for Bristol City last season

Fulham have made a late move for Bristol City left-back Joe Bryan, according to Sky sources.

Sky Sports News understands Bryan has indicated to Aston Villa - where he was due to have a medical today - that he would prefer to play in the Premier League.

Sky reported on Monday that Bristol City had accepted a bid of £6m from Villa for the 24-year-old, who was a standout performer in last year's Championship.

Whites boss Slavisa Jokanovic wants three more signings before the end of the window, including both full-back positions and a defensive midfielder. They are also targeting a pre-deadline deal to sign Celta Vigo right-back Hugo Mallo.

Fulham have recruited heavily since returning to the top flight. Their signings include Andre Schurrle, Alfie Mawson, Jean Michael Seri, Aleksandar Mitrovic, and most recently, Arsenal defender Calum Chambers.

Fulham make late move to sign left-back targeted by NUFC – Another blow for Benitez

According to some big claims on Wednesday night, Bristol City's Joe Bryan is now set to undergo a medical at Fulham ahead of a £6m move – meaning that's yet another left-back that looks set to be scratched o Benitez's wanted list.

Bryan – who was one of the Championship's top performers in 2017/18 – had been strongly linked with a move to St James' Park last month – however it seems we were not prepared to pay £6m for a player in the final year of their contract.

Both the Bristol Post and The Chronicle had confirmed Rafa Benitez's interest, although a deal for PSG's Stanley N'Soki appears to have been pursued instead.

With a deal for the Frenchman now described as 'dead', many wondered if we'd go back in for Bryan – but it now seems as though we've missed the boat.

The 24-year old had looked all set to join Aston Villa, however journalist Pete O'Rourke has now revealed that he's 'walked out' on a move to Villa Park at the 11th hour, with him now set for a medical at Craven Cottage instead:

Is this the only way Tottenham Hotspur could spring a shock and sign Ryan Sessegnon on deadline day?
Tottenham have been heavily linked with a move for the 18-year-old, but Fulham are hellbent on keeping him.

This afternoon saw a transfer rumour that appeared dead for this summer reemerge for Tottenham Hotspur. The rumour involved Fulham's dazzling left-sided talent Ryan Sessegnon.

Earlier this summer Tottenham were heavily linked with the Championship Player of the Year. The Times have reported Fulham want as much as £50 million for the teenager, after his excellent form in the Championship.

But it was made very clear early on this summer that Sessegnon was going nowhere. With Fulham promoted to the Premier League, the talented 18-year-old drifted out of Tottenham's reach.

Then, suddenly, Tottenham were linked again today. As reported by Bleacher Report, Fulham had a 'concern' that Sessegnon could be the subject of an improved bid from Tottenham on deadline day.

A BBC journalist then stated that a deal had been proposed a few weeks ago, involving Danny Rose going the other way, but no deal could be reached. Sessegnon looks set to stay, with Fulham's chairman Tony Khan insisting so on Twitter.

However, stranger things have happened and with Tottenham needing to placate fans frustrations, could they put a bid together in time.

Any permanent deal would have to involve Rose heading in the other direction. Another option, so Fulham would not need to find a replacement, would be for Tottenham to agree a deal which sees him remain at Fulham on loan.

Such deals have happened before. With Spurs struggling for a buyer for Rose, it would give them another year to find a party to take the England international on board.

Sessegnon is also much more than just a left-back, so Fulham could happily take Rose as part of any deal now, with Sessegnon still remaining at Craven Cottage. Tottenham have the impressive Kyle Walker-Peters waiting in the wings at left-back.

It seems unlikely. But Tottenham love to spring a deadline day shock. Could they do it with Sessegnon this summer?

Mitrovic will be 'crucial,' claims Mawson

Alfie Mawson believes Aleksandar Mitrovic will be 'crucial' to Fulham's prospects as they return to the Premier League this season.

Fulham's new signing might be set to miss at least the first month of the new season but he has enjoyed watching the former Newcastle United striker pick up off where he left off at Craven Cottage last term. Mawson, speaking to Talksport this afternoon, shared his enjoyment of Mitrovic's pre-season exploits and believes his fellow centre halves won't be looking forward to facing Fulham's number nine this season:

He is a big man! He's 23 years old and built like a body builder and is as strong as an ox. Against Celta Vigo on Saturday, their centre half has looked to go tight on him – but he's thrown the defender off the ball and wrapped one in from about 25 yards. It's always good to have that because this club is renowned for its ball playing ability but to have a target man like him will be crucial this season.

The former Swansea City defender also feels that German winger Andre Schurrle is ready to make his mark on English football again after an underwhelming spell with Borussia Dortmund.

Schurrle obviously speaks for himself. He's a World Cup winner and has played at some top clubs. He's been in London in his career already and he's made a decision to come to a club that is more suited to him. We're expecting a lot from him and he's going to thrive off that.

Fulham move to hijack Joe Bryan's £6m switch to Aston Villa

Fulham returned for Joe Bryan on Wednesday with a bid which was rejected
The 24-year-old was heading for Aston Villa preparing to take a medical
Bryan has indicated to Villa he would like the chance to play in Premier League
Fulham improved their offer for standout performer in last year's Championship

Fulham moved to hijack Joe Bryan's £6million move to Aston Villa on Wednesday night and are hopeful of persuading Marseille to sell £25million-rated Andre Frank Zambo Anguissa.

The Craven Cottage club had grown frustrated in their attempts to sign Southampton's Matt Targett and made enquiries for Bryan initially last month.

They returned on Wednesday with a bid which was rejected while Bryan was heading for Aston Villa preparing to take a medical.

Fulham moved to hijack Joe Bryan's £6million move to Aston Villa on Wednesday night

Bryan though has indicated to Villa he would like the chance to play in the Premier League and Fulham improved their offer.

The 24-year-old was a standout performer in last year's Championship and impressed against Manchester City and Manchester United in the Carabao Cup.

Cameroon international midfielder Anguissa was due to fly in from France on Wednesday ahead of talks with Fulham boss Slavisa Jokanovic keen to add extra bite to his team.

Bryan has indicated he would like chance to play in Premier League and Fulham improved offer

Jokanovic has seen Andre Schurrle, Alfie Mawson, Jean Michael Seri, Aleksandar Mitrovic, and most recently, Arsenal defender Calum Chambers all arrive this summer but still wants to strengthen the spine of his team.

Sevilla goalkeeper Sergio Rico is joining on loan while Celta Vigo right-back Hugo Mallo has also been targeted but could be offered a new contract to stay in Spain.

Jokanovic ideally wants greater experience wary that his young squad could suffer with nerves on the Premier League stage. Fulham though have been keen to invest in youth.

Fulham in talks with Anguissa

Marseille midfielder Andre Zambo Anguissa has flown to London to hold talks with Fulham over a possible £25m transfer deadline day move, according to the Daily Mail.

The Cameroon international has been linked with a transfer to a number of European clubs after emerging as one of Europe's brightest midfield talents since making his breakthrough at Marseille. The 22 year-old established himself in Les Olympiens' first team during an excellent 2016/2017 and then was a key part of the side that reached the Europa League final last term, where they lost to Atletico Madrid.

The defensive midfielder, who has won eleven caps for his country, made 36 league appearances last season as Marseille finished fourth in Ligue 1. He credits his club coach Rudi Garcia for gradually turning him into more of a box-to-box midfielder and his rampaging style has been described by L'Equipe as being made for the Premier League. Anguissa, who counts former Manchester City Yaya Toure as among his heroes and has admitted that he would be attracted by the prospect of playing in England.

Fulham boss Slavisa Jokanovic has highlighted the anchor role in midfield as an area where the club need reinforcements – reminding the press after last Saturday's 2-2 draw with Celta Vigo that he does not have a top quality understudy for Scottish international Kevin McDonald. Capturing Anguissa would continue the newly-promoted club's eye-catching summer transfer window, which has already seen them surprise most of Europe by swooping for Nice midfielder Jean-Michael Seri.

Joe Bryan made 48 appearances in all competitions for Bristol City last season

Bristol City left-back Joe Bryan is having a medical at Fulham this morning, according to Sky sources.

The Whites have agreed a deal to sign the 24-year-old.

Bryan was close to joining Aston Villa on Wednesday - where he was set to do a medical - but he is understood to prefer a move to the Premier League.

Sky reported on Monday that Bristol City had accepted a bid of £6m from Villa for Bryan, who was a standout performer in last year's Championship.

Report: André-Frank Zambo Anguissa flies to London for talks with Fulham ahead of proposed £25m move

Fulham are reportedly close to signing the Marseille midfielder.

According to a report from the Daily Mail, Fulham are closing in on a deal to sign Marseille star André-Frank Zambo Anguissa, after the defensive midfielder flew in to London for talks with the Cottagers last night.

The 11-capped Cameroon international is a powerful and tenacious central midfielder, and he seemingly possesses all of the attributes required in order to be a success in the Premier League.

Fulham boss Slaviša Jokanović has already been extremely active during this summer's transfer window, bringing in a whole host of new names including Jean Michael Seri, Aleksandar Mitrovic and Alfie Mawson.

The Serbian will still be keen to bolster his central midfield department, however, and the Daily Mail claims that the Cottagers are closing in on a deal to sign Anguissa, after the Cameroonian jetted into London late last night to begin talks with the west London outfit.

Fulham seem to be in great shape to take the Premier League by storm this season, and if they manage to add the Marseille midfielder to their already strong group of players at Craven Cottage, Jokanović will surely be extremely confident in his side's chances of success this term.

Fulham v Crystal Palace – Mike Dean | The Man In The Middle

Fulham v Crystal Palace

Referee: Mike Dean
Assistants: Ian Hussin, Dan Robathan
Fourth official: Robert Jones

A London derby to open the 2018/19 campaign – mouth watering.

Lovers of football will be thrilled to see top flight fare back at the Cottage, and Fulham have also done some solid business in the summer.

Jean Michael Seri was a target for Barcelona this time last year and is a superb exponent of the creative midfield art, whilst Andre Schurrle and Aleksandar Mitrovic will provide power and goals up front.

Their back line will be tested against Palace, with Andros Townsend and Wilfried Zaha in particular looking to make inroads from the wide areas.

Lights, camera.... Action! Mike Dean takes centre-stage in the first London derby of the 2018/19 campaign.

For all of his eccentricities, he remains one of the better referees in the division, and the biggest surprise of the weekend will be if he has any problems here.

Why Joe Bryan's deadline eve U-turn was the final piece of the puzzle for Slavisa Jokanovic and Fulham

The Bristol City left-back's decision to snub Aston Villa rounds out Fulham's defence and means Ryan Sessegnon will not be required to fill in at full-back

Joe Bryan's dramatic deadline eve U-turn might be the story of this transfer window. The Bristol City left-back underwent a medical at Aston Villa on Wednesday and was all set to complete a £6m move when the phone rang: Fulham, offering more wages and the irresistible lure of the Premier League. Bryan and his agent told Steve Bruce he'd changed his mind, hopped back in the car and drove down to west London.

Bruce's betrayal was Slavisa Jokanovic's coup – and it might be the final piece in Fulham's carefully constructed transfer window.

Much of last season's defensive unit from which their slick football began was quickly dismantled this summer. Ryan Fredericks moved to West Ham on a free transfer; Tomas Kalas returned to Chelsea; Matt Target returned to Southampton. And although Denis Odoi stayed, he has a two-game suspension after his red card in the play-off final and will miss Saturday's opener at home to Crystal Palace.

But some times things need to be be broken apart and reassembled. Slowly, Jokanovic has rebuilt his base with shiny new pieces: Alfie Mawson signed from Swansea for £15m, and is nearing a full recovery from knee surgery. Maxime Le Marchand joined from Nice for £3.6m, an experienced centre-back who can play across the back. Arsenal's Calum Chambers moved across London on a a season-long loan having formed a fruitful partnership with Mawson at the U21 European Championships last year.

With right-back Cyrus Christie and centre-half Tim Ream still at the club the defence was almost complete – except at left-back. There were worrying signs in pre-season that Ryan Sessegnon would have to plug that particular leak, especially should Le Marchand be needed in the centre, but that was up until the moment Bryan made his impulse move to Craven Cottage on Wednesday.

Now, not only are Fulham signing one of the most highly rated young players in the Championship, someone with an eye for goal who fits perfectly into Jokanovic's demands for attacking full-backs with technical quality, but in doing so they have ensured Sessegnon's precocious talents are released further forwards with full license to ruin Premier League defender's afternoons.

Late on Wednesday night Tony Khan tweeted, Trump-style: "We're not selling @ryansessegnon. We've never considered it! I couldn't sit back and read these false rumors anymore, had to say something. Ryan's key to this @fulhamfc squad; he's one of the top young talents worldwide and in our plans for @premierleague success. Come on Fulham!" Provided Fulham hold firm through Thursday – Tottenham have long held an interest and Daniel Levy is no stranger to deadline day bids – the retention of Sessegnon will be as significant as their new arrivals.

Fulham's transfer window is beginning to look like one of the success stories of the summer. The £27m signing of Jean Michael Seri was particularly eye-catching, a player who has been linked with some of the biggest clubs in Europe. Andre Schurrle is a smart loan move for a player who, at 27, still has plenty to offer and something to prove in west London. Aleksandar Mitrovic has not come cheap at £18m but showed last season that he is the perfect battering ram in front of Fulham's flurry of feather arrows which rain down from all directions.

There is a positivity around the club, a sense of optimism that they can take on the Premier League their way and succeed in what sounds a relatively straightforward task: to finish above three teams. It will be a fascinating journey, and for Bryan the opportunity was impossible to resist.
