Much of our success in the Championship was based around having width and building successful partnerships down the flanks. We cried out for a natural goal scorer to get on the end of crosses etc and now that we have one in Mitro he is feeding off scraps.
Seems only yesterday that transfer windows would come and go with us being linked with an endless list of wingers.
This year we spend in excess of £100m and start each match with no pace or trickery out wide and full backs who are exposed by no support in front of them.
We may need to spend another £100m to stay up at this rate but I suggest that we start by looking at full backs and wingers.
I don't think that the wingers are the problem. Both Schuerrle and Vietto, especially Vietto can cross the ball. On the other hand, none of our fullbacks can hit a barn door when crossing, which is one of the biggest problems we had this year.
Not just about crossing, its about defensive duties and relationship they have with full back sometimes allowing them to bomb on. We break so slowly now.

But he had a good understanding with Fredericks on that side so they both knew when to sit back and when to bomb on, he also worked incredibly hard tracking back, schurrle and vietto don't seem to enjoy defending.
There are no "wingers" anymore. For most decent teams have wideish flexible foffensive players and full backs who get for Ward. We didnt play with wingers in the championship either!
Targett and Sess ripped them apart down the left
Targett and Fredericks did much good work in the wide areas last season, their replacements are not up to scratch, hard but true.
...then again they didnt have to play against premier league opposition.
