Title: A stroll to Partizan and Red Star, SJ's old turf
Post by: Robbie on October 14, 2018, 03:05:20 PM
To finish a pleasant weekend in Belgrade, we have just been to the stadia of Red Star and Partizan. I had foolishly forgotten that is where SJ started his senior playing and coaching careers.

Some great footballing history and a rivalry to match the Old Firm.

Glad you're having a good time.

Has the ball from Tadic's penalty in Bucharest landed in Belgrade yet?

Baffling decision to take it instead of Mitro. Followed by an exhibition of everything to do wrong when taking a pen.

Serbia's crossing is worse than Fulhams. If you want a Sunday afternoon nap, this match will not only send you off to sleep, it is danger of putting you in a coma. The standard is not particularly good, and a bore draw is on the cards.

Looking at the numbers I see that Tadic has been the regular penalty-taker for Serbia, and his overall record for all teams (30 scored, 9 Missed) isn't bad at all.
Still doesn't explain why today he looked like someone who'd never seen a penalty kick (or even a football) before.

That was an extraordinary attempt to convert a penalty kick.
His body language, his very short run up, and the way he telegraphed where he was going to place it by opening up his body was an insult to Sunday morning football.
Although the Keeper read it and went the right way, he could have sat in a deckchair reading the Beano, and Tadic still would have missed.
The ball almost landed in the Black Sea, that's how bad it was.

Did you manage a trip to the Fulham bar in Belgrade?

Missed that one ... but ... not a word of a lie, Mitro was on the flight back today .... shook his hand and said we need more goals (nicely).  He looked a bit shy and said he will try ... seems a nice young chap
