im going driving nice and steady Saturday morning, also never been before.
Going Friday, been looking forward to this one all season, lovely place Bournemouth.
I am already here!
Anyone travelling on Saturday morning, 1 bit of advice.
Leave extra time, if it's a sunny day the end of the M27 to get to the A31 is always a couple of miles of tailbacks (3 lanes in to 2)
Also they are doing roadworks along the main road in to Bournemouth (A338) from the A31 where it is down to a single lane.
Anyone go there when it was Dean Court in October 1969 for a division 3 fixture? A 2-2 draw with Conway and Earle scoring? Emm 50 years ago.... :022:

No but I did go to Dean Court, before John Bond took that team to become Norwich (early - mid 70's I think)

No wasn't there for that one Captain but was there to see Jeff Ekhart (what a warrior he was for Fulham) score a couple to give us a very welcome away win. It was early season and boiling hot and the first time I saw that character who had the OLD badge tattooed across his back....... must have been very upset when MAF changed to our current design.
I'd suggest a minimum of 3hrs to travel from Fulham to Bournemouth. The roadworks will add 45 mins along A338 if there are people going to the beaches. As said above end of M27 also has a bad record of traffic on busy times
The idea of taking advantage of a long weekend seems vetry appealing especially with the weather being forecast as good.
I admire everyone going and wish them a brilliant day/weekend out and hope the traffic is not to unreasonable.

Actually we were there a few weeks ago and the traffic was totally hopeless in the bit you mention... it may be worth allowing longer, or getting there very early indeed just to ensure safely arriving ion time.

Think you might be getting games mixed up mate, Eckhardt only ever scored one down there by my reckoning, the third goal in a 3-1 win, remember it clearly because he did this funny celebration where he pretended to trip up, it was cold & wet, jan or Feb?.
Only decent days down there weather wise was a 2-1 defeat where Brian Mcgorry scored 2 long rangers for them & the 2-1 under Wilkins which was pretty warm for October.
Funnily enough saw us lose 3-2 over Xmas in 86 & it was freezing
The M3 could start tailing back after the 2nd Basingstoke turn and an option would be to take the A303 to just after Andover and then the A343 which becomes the A30 to Salisbury (where there will be a 20 minute delay) and take the A338 to Ringwood. At Ringwood follow the B3347 to Christchurch via Sopley and then approach the ground from that direction.
Whichever way you travel there are going to be delays.
I'm debating getting the train from Southampton to Pokesdown that a 32 minute journey with a 20 minute walk.
Alternatively going along the A35 through the new forest then through Christchurch to Boscombe
Flying in Saturday morning and staying over Saturday night. Looking forward to it.
I last went in the 1990s when we lost 2-0. I was lucky enough to have a Bournemouth friend whose dad ran their bars so got onto the players lounge. I was stood next to their goal scorer when he received Man of the match. 2 weeks later my friend brought in a programne with the MoM photo with me looking rather glum!
I visited Bournemouth for the first time last year, it's a very nice part of the UK and if sandy beaches are your thing it's pretty special (I prefer pebbles, don't like sand getting everywhere).

The guy (think his name was Mick) with the tattoo on his back used to bring the drum to games, he was invited to the recording of our famous "Were not Barcelona" song, even had a picture of his back on the CD cover!
MAF was there and asked him how much it cost, then one of his security people gave him the money to cover the costs, I think about 3 weeks later MAF had to change the badge!

Think they signed him from Hogwarts
Enjoy the Bank Holiday traffic !!!!
Snarks idea is the best one. Park in Southampton and get the train. Nice place Bournemouth. No beach goers in Southampton. Of course, possibly no trains either given Southern rail performance these days.
