Cambridge United 2
Is our D of F in attendance ?
A. this is a leg stretcher and I doubt if they are rushing around. B. Who is playing in the starting eleven which will probably be completely changed at half time..
0-3 to Cambridge 😂😂😂
Cambridge have this young striker called Harvey Knibbs, he's ex Villa.......dynamite.

The thing is, it is the same for Cambridge.
I seem to remember under Felix we won all our pre season games - it really means nothing
3-1 now
3-1 the fight back begins
:yay: :yay: :yay: I thought this was another like the hahas thread.

Lineup?
Haven't been able to find it anywhere, Fulham haven't announced it and Cambridge's Twitter is only showing their line up.
The line-up can't be that weak as a "Fulham XI" are playing Bromley later which will presumably be the weaker side :023:
Maybe we haven't lined-up yet, which may explain why we are losing. Our goal is a Cambridge own goal to make it look as though we are on the field of play. Or maybe we haven't got enough players yet to field a full team.
Fighting back from 3-0 down, must be the first team back 5
Oh well that's it. Relegation for us..... for gods sake it's probably a team of kids getting a work out. Nothing to get excited about.

I don't think most of us is thinking that way.... we are just gauging the solutions needed with less than 1 month to go before 2019/2020 start date.
The kids are playing Bromley this evening. Managed by former Fulham favourite Neil Smith.
So who are playing Cambridge United then, the Staff ?
Full time: Fulham FC 1 - 3 Cambridge United FC
I bet that bloke A Trialist played

Well if we can't beat Cambridge United then the solution is we need a whole new squad and management team.
Not fussed to be honest. Firstly, we don't even know what team we played. And secondly, it's our first friendly of Pre-Season-Â so presumably we were trying out a few things whether it be different combinations, formations etc.
It matters about the same as Boro losing 2-0 to a third division Austrian team yesterday, and if my memory is correct we had a pretty good Pre-Season results wise in 14/15 and 15/16 and we ended up finishing 17th and 20th in the Championship. We'll probably get battered by Porto next weekend as well, and I will be equally not fussed.

He did!!! ....... for Cambridge
So the team that went 3-0 down was
Bettinelli; Christie, Odoi, Le Marchand, Mundle-Smith; Francois, McDonald, Edun; Ayite, Harris, Santos-Clase.
Don't worry too much about friendlies but a million pounds would keep Cambridge going for three seasons!
If we had a sprinkling of million pound players then they should've been enough to ease past that team even including the super star A Triallist.
Its too hot and muggy for football
You had better go to another Fulham website to find out who played in ,the other half!
Go to the Offal. They have match report & lineups for both halves. AK47 played. Mostly kids in 1st half. Quite a few 1st choice were not back yet.
Neither of our two youngsters that are reported to be leaving were in the squad. Ryan also wasn't in it, but that may just be injury.
Only other first teamers that weren't present are Mitro, Seri, Ream and Anguissa, but Mitro just came back from vacations and the other three are on international duty.
Fulham
Line-up: Bettinelli (Rodák 46'); Christie (Sessegnon 46'), Odoi (Mawson 46'), Le Marchand (Opoku 46'), Mundle-Smith (Bryan 46'); Francois (De La Torre 46'), McDonald (Cairney 46'), Edun (O'Riley 46'); Ayité (Kebano 46'), Harris (Rui Fonte 60'), Santos-Clase (Kamara 60')
Disgraceful performance...I live in Newmarket quite a lot of U's fans around here,I will have to go into hiding for a while....Sack the lot of the lazy overpaid twats.😉
If we can blame Mundle -Smith for the three first half goals we could imagine our first choice back four kept a clean sheet for 45 minutes.

Hilda the tealady hit the bar with an overhead kick in the last minute.
She laddered one of her stockings doing so.😊
So Kamara played, does that mean he is back in the squad.

Tony Khan had already said as much.  Not sure who it was that saw him at some airport.
I assume all pre season games will be watchable online from the main site at some point?  If I remember correctly, last year only Celta Vigo made it's way to the site.

nothing like getting depressed for start of season.
I remember the days when posters accused me of being miserable and negative. Good grief I feel like a happy, skipping Pixie collecting dandelions in a field of happy, waving flowers joyfully welcoming the season of good feeling. Compared to the continual grief and pessimism every time I read fof.Â

:plus one:
I've been posting regularly on forums since 1997 and honestly I cannot remember a forum being more 'glass half empty' than fof.
I'm very optimistic about the season in spite of this loss.  I already knew I didn't want Odoi and Christie as opening day starters and a win today wouldn't have changed that.
I'm glad we have Ryan Sess, Mitro and Anguissa under contract.
Our grim last season after the euphoria of our promotion certainly seems to be having a lingering effect on the boards general postings. Personally I think pre season friendlies mean nothing but when we got promoted prior to last season we came up with a Premier League team already in place. That was why we stayed up for as long as we did. Mistakes were made last season with our recruitment, which is plain for us all to see. We needed to strengthen in certain areas but instead we destroyed the core of the team and the team spirit along with it. I sincerely hope lessons have been learned but I fear not.
For balance of fair play its worth pointing out that Division 4 Cambridge changed their entire side at half time, so at some point during the game we were playing their reserves,
So yes we had one or two missing but even so we werent playing their strongest team either.
From reading the match report and looking through the teams for both halves it was seemingly set up so 1st Half Cambridge would have the majority of the ball and were attacking us, whereas 2nd Half it was the reverse which was presumably agreed upon by the two managers hence the game being behind closed doors.
It just so happens that we didn't get the rub of the green in-front of goal in the 2nd Half given Cairney's hit the bar and it sounds like we missed 4 or 5 decent chances.
Still, shouldn't we be able to beat Cambridge United no matter who we play and when we play them?

Arsenal drew 3-3 with Boreham Wood today as well. It is just preseason.
You don't want players going all out in friendlies and getting injured.
Being behind closed doors makes it even more of a run out, early training exercise for the squad.

or we both still have crap defenses  :005:
Not a glass half full or empty. Seemingly we cannot even afford a glass. Team to be re-named The Tony Khan All-Stars.
Colin Calderwood had this to say looking ahead to the game at Motspur Park.
"I am looking forward to a tough test against the Cottagers. It looks like an attractive game and it'll be a tough game in all sorts of ways. We're looking forward to it, but it's a training session. It'll be two 45-minute sections, and most boys will do 45."
I am guessing he will not be drawing too many conclusions from the game other than focusing on those things he was looking for and at before the match started. Likewise I hope it was the same for SP and his charges, lessons to be learned, things to be done, new ways to be identified for solving old problems.  Just a chance to test things out and get players fit for what is to come.
Perhaps, looking at the comments on here, it was just as well we lost. Complacency can be the biggest killer of all.
Some sides do take friendlies serious, three results from yesterday.
Hallen(Glos) 0Â Bristol City14
Yate Town 1 Bristol Rovers10
Lanarkshire Miners fc 0 East Fife 17....lol😊
The reaction to a defeat in the first friendly on here by some posters verge on the pathetic😡

But! Can we at least give Parker credit for playing first team players in his pre-season friendlies.
Betts/Rodak
Christie
Odoi/Mawson
Le Marchand
Bryan
MacDonald/Cairney
Kebano/Ayite
Kamara
We also gave Edun, S Sess, De la Torre, and O'Reilly a run out.
For the first game of the preseason, this was good team selection with what we currently have.
For Parker to get further managerial kudos, he should now slowly give the first team players more of the game ie 60mins, then 75 mins until the West Ham game which should be treated as a proper match.
Didn't we lose like 7-1 to a chelsea reserve team in preseason when we went up the year before last?

Oh lets have another go at Tony Kahn.....pathetic !
It's only a preseason game, thats ok then - makes it a fantastic result. I'm sure it's boosted the guys moral no end 🙄
Oldham, Cambridge....
I am hoping we'll pick up enough points to avoid a relegation battle but realistic enough to realise that we'll struggle to be top 6.
Knibbs scored again. That's him scored in his last three games against us.
Must like the air down here !!

8-2. But we didn't win until the 6th round and were 17th in November. I agree that friendlies at this stage won't tell us much but we really need to be better prepared for the start of the season than we've been the last couple of years.

Yes we cant keep starting slow.
Why did Betts let in 3 goals? Without being able to watch the game that's my biggest question.

How much do I care about this game?
Nada
How much do I care that Mitro signed to 2024?
Easy answer to that
Cambridge was a kid's workout.
TC & Mitro are statements of intent
Well done TK!
Knibbs is a top poacher so not surprised he got his to be frank !
Our defence left some gaps and Cambridge took their opportunity all three times.
Second half was a different storey, TC came on and ran the show.
Apparently we battered them 2nd half just couldn't score........No change there then !

I imagine the players below would have taken the game seriously, they may not play much next year without a good pre-season.
First Half
Mundle-Smith, Edun, Francois, Harris, Santos-Clase (sounds like some of these players maybe stuck in u23 or League One for one more season)
Second Half
Rodak, S.Sessegnon, Opoku, O'Riley, La Torre (sounds like all of these players will get another chance to be considered)
