Fulham to take Cavaleiro on loan

Fulham are poised to announce the signing of Portuguese winger Ivan Cavaleiro on loan from Wolverhampton Wanderers, according to the Daily Telegraph.

The 25 year-old will initially move to Craven Cottage on a season-long loan deal with an option to buy. The right winger, who has earned two senior caps for Portugal, has scored 19 goals in 106 appearances during three years at Molinuex after joining from Monaco for £7m in August 2016. Cavaleiro scored nine times in 42 appearances as Wolves romped to the Championship title in 2017/2018 and scored three goals in 23 games in the top flight last season.

Cavaleiro, who came through the Benfica youth set-up, has been made available for loan for the forthcoming campaign and Fulham are understood to have beaten off competition from the likes of Huddersfield Town and Derby County to secure his services. He has a terrific European football pedigree, having helped Benfica win a domestic treble in 2013-14 as well as reach the Europa League final, where they lost to Sevilla. The winger also won the European Under 21 championships with Portugal in 2015.

Fulham's capture of Cavaleiro would significantly strengthen their options on the right wing – a key area for recruitment – ahead of their return to the Championship. Cavaleiro has been a long-term Fulham target, with the Whites having tried to sign him last summer unsuccessfully.

Wolves player on the verge of Molineux exit with club set to seal loan deal


Fulham are set to sign Ivan Cavaleiro from Wolves, reports The Telegraph's John Percy.

The move would see the winger join on a season-long loan with an option in place to make the move permanent should The Cottagers wish to.

The Portuguese player has been in-demand for much of the summer, with Huddersfield previously linked, but it seems Fulham have won the race to sign him.

Cavaleiro struggled for game time last season, making just 23 Premier League appearances, only six of which were starts.

The 25-year-old really impressed in his last spell in the Championship. His pace and direct style turned Wolves into a real attacking force after his £7m move from Monaco, and he played a big role in Wolves' 2018 title win.

He scored nine goals and made 12 assists that season, and Fulham will hope he can contribute in a similar fashion in order to help them to promotion.

The Verdict

This is an astute signing from Fulham and their attacking options suddenly look a lot more threatening. Cavaleiro's pace will be a great weapon this season and his ability to take on defenders should prove invaluable.

He is a great player to have when playing counter-attacking football too, so in those big matches away from home he could really be the decisive factor, and those matches are ultimately what decide promotion.

Cavaleiro knows the division too and he will be raring to go after a frustrating season mostly spent on the sidelines. If he can channel that energy into performances then he should be one to look out for this season.

Fulham closing in on deal for Wolves attacker – loan with view to permanent switch

According to respected journalist John Percy, Championship side Fulham are poised to complete a deal for Wolves winger Ivan Cavaleiro, who is set to join the club on a season-long loan deal with an option for a permanent move at the end of the season.

After their relegation from the Premier League, Fulham are looking to bolster their squad with some Championship quality players ahead of the new season under Scott Parker. And, with Ryan Babel leaving Craven Cottage and Andre Schurrle returning to Borussia Dortmund, Fulham are in the market for a new winger.

Now, it seems set that they will be filling the gaps left by Babel and Schurrle with Wolves attacker Ivan Cavaleiro, with Telegraph journalist John Percy reporting on Twitter (see below) that the Portuguese winger is set to join the club on loan, with the option of a permanent deal included as well.

The 25-year-old fell out of favour in the Premier League under Nuno Espirito Santo over the course of last season, with the majority of his 29 appearances across all competitions coming off the bench. In total, Cavaleiro netted five goals and provided two assists along the way.

He played an important role in their promotion to the Premier League in the 2017/18 campaign, scoring nine goals and laying on 13 assists as Wolves won the Championship. Overall, Cavaleiro has made 106 appearances for Wolves, scoring 19 and assisting 20 goals.

But, with a move to Fulham reportedly on the cards, it awaits to be seen if the winger will be adding to that total.

Ivan Cavaleiro: Wolves winger set for Fulham medical ahead of loan

Ivan Cavaleiro is set to have a medical at Fulham today ahead of a season-long loan move from Wolves.

The deal also includes an option to buy, Sky Sports News understands.

The winger, who made 23 appearances in the Premier League last season, had been named in Wolves' squad to play in the Asia Trophy but is now heading to London instead.

The Portuguese international was part of the Wolves side that won the Championship in 2017-18.

Cavaleiro is the second Wolves winger to move on loan to the Championship, with Helder Costa completing his move to Leeds last week.

Wolves winger Ivan Cavaleiro is closing in on a loan exit from Molineux to join recently-relegated Fulham, according to the Express and Star.

They report that the pacy wideman will spend the season at Craven Cottage and then the Whites will have an option – no obligation – to buy him next summer.

Cavaliero follows Helder Costa out of the Molineux exit door and means that Nuno Santo's already thin squad is about to get even thinner – perhaps intensifying the need for new blood.

He joined Wolves in 2016 for a reported (Sky Sports) £7 million – which was a club record at the time – but found it hard to impress in the Premier League last term.

Cavaleiro got nine goals and 12 assists in Wolves' promotion season – which shows what an asset he can be in the second tier – and should help Fulham to get back towards the flowing football that got them up the same year.

But from a Wolves' perspective the concern perhaps isn't losing the player – because he wasn't integral in the top flight – but how thin it leaves the squad ahead of the new season.

There is still time to get new faces through the door but replacing forwards with greater quality doesn't come cheap in the modern market and Wolves won't get any money for Costa or Cavaleiro this summer because they're both on loan.

Report: Fulham eyeing £15m deal for Brighton's Anthony Knockaert

Premier League outfit Brighton and Hove Albion could reportedly sell Anthony Knockaert with Fulham keen on the 2017 Championship player of the year.

Fulham are considering a £15 million deal to sign Brighton and Hove Albion winger Anthony Knockaert, according to The Sun.

With Ryan Babel and Andre Schurrle bidding farewell to Craven Cottage and Ryan Sessegnon expected to follow, Scott Parker has his work cut out building an attack capable of firing Fulham back to the Premier League at the first time of asking.

But what a signing Knockaert would be.

Yes, the skilful Frenchman hasn't quite lived up to expectations in the top flight but his performances for Brighton in the Championship were nothing short of outstanding. An exciting winger with an eye for the spectacular, it was his 15 goals and eight assists that inspired Chris Hughton's side to a second placed finish in 2017.

Knockaert was a deserving winner of the Championship's Player of the Year award to boot.

And The Sun believes that the 27-year-old would be tempted to drop down to the second tier again with Fulham mulling over a £15 million deal while potentially offering to raise his £40,000 a week wages.

Brighton could be willing to cash in too, especially now that Lucas Trossard has arrived from Belgian football.

With star man and top scorer Aleksandar Mitrovic surprising everyone by signing a new contract last week, he and Knockaet have the potential to be comfortably the Championship's most fearsome attacking partnership.

As Harvey Elliot becomes the latest Fulham academy prospect to leave Craven Cottage in favour of a new challenge, Rhys Daly takes a look at how other young hopefuls fared after leaving west London.

Patrick Roberts (Fulham academy 2010 – 2014)
Patrick Roberts joined Fulham from AFC Wimbledon at the age of 13 and went on to earn a professional deal on his 17th birthday which he described as: "one of the best feelings I've ever had in my life."

Felix Magath described the player as a "an extraordinary talent" before he made his Premier League debut against his future side Manchester City in March 2014.

Fulham were suffering in what would be a difficult season for any young player to break into the first-team, with Roberts ending the campaign with FA Youth Cup final heartbreak with the Under-18s.

Although Roberts had what was probably the best natural dribbling ability of any Fulham academy graduate, it was with England that he caught the eye of potential suitors.

The Kingston-born winger was a featured often in the England Under-17 side between 2013 and 2014, scoring three goals and assisting four more during the European U-17 Championship triumph five years ago.

During his only full season for Fulham the forward made just 17 Championship appearances before joining City and a long-term deal for a fee of around £12million.

The 22-year-old spent two-and-a-half seasons on loan in Scotland at Celtic winning back-to-back trebles, before having a turbulent time in Spain with Girona who were relegated last term.

Roberts is now set to make his Premier League return having joined newly-promoted Norwich City on loan, with City not giving up on the player just yet.

Career since leaving Fulham: 6/10

Moussa Dembele (Fulham academy 2012 – 2013)
Fulham signed Moussa Dembele from French giants Paris Saint-Germain in 2012 in what was a considered a big coup.

After turning professional the striker spent two years struggling to break into the first-team before taking the Championship by storm in 2015/16.

Despite Fulham ending up in a disappointing 20th in the league, his partnership with Ross McCormack was arguably the most impressive in the division.

The Frenchman and the Scot hit a combined 36 goals across the 43 fixtures, with Fulham fans keen to keep hold of the youngster for at least another year.

That wasn't to be as Dembele rejected the offer of a new deal before deciding to accept an offer from Celtic, no doubt after communicating with his former team-mate, Roberts – his final record for the Whites standing at 19 goals in 64 games.

Dembele massively improved his goal return after moving above the border, hitting 54 goals in 94 fixtures while taking home six winners medals from various competitions.

That form earned the striker a £20million move to Lyon, with talks of a move to Manchester United now often after an impressive season in Ligue 1.

Career since leaving Fulham: 9/10

Kerim Frei (Fulham academy 2010 – 2011)
Kerim Frei earned fan favorite status at Fulham in a short period of time after coming through the academy and making a mark in Europe.

Huw Jennings described the winger as: "humble, but not lacking in confidence", as he went on to make a respectable 25 appearances in all competitions.

In a season which should've marked his breakout into a first-team star, Frei's appearances dried up under Martin Jol, totaling just eight as he was loaned to Cardiff with Fulham finishing 12th.

In a decision that angered Fulham fans, Jol decided that Frei was surplus to his requirements before the player agreed a five-year deal at Besiktas.

The Turkey and Switzerland youth international was a regular for two seasons in Turkey before a loan to Birmingham and a permanent move to Istanbul Basaksehir.

The 25-year-old now plys his trade for Maccabi Haifa in the Israeli Premier League, in a case of 'what could have been' for Whites fans.

Career since leaving Fulham: 4/10

Emerson Hyndman (Fulham academy 2011 – 2014)
Emerson Hyndman, now 23, earned a move to Fulham's academy from FC Dallas after a potential move to Newcastle broke down.

Hyndman's passing ability earned him a place in the first-team squad in 2014 after signing a professional deal two-years earlier.

The USA international made 17 appearances in the 2015/16 season as he struggled to manage the physicality of the Championship, before Slavisa Jokanovic gave the player his blessing to find a new club.

In three years at Bournemouth, Hyndman has made just seven appearances for the Cherries in a spell that has included loans at both Rangers and Hibernian in Scotland.

Hyndman hasn't played for the international side since 2016, and has now opted in a temporary switch to Atalanta United in the MLS to get his name into the thoughts of current USA boss Gregg Berhalter.

Career since leaving Fulham: 4/10

Ryan Sessegnon? (Fulham academy 2008 – 2016)
Ryan Sessegnon, who made the list as a precaution, has been notably absent from both pre-season training and club publicity for the new kits.

The 2017/18 Championship player of the season endured a difficult debut campaign in the Premier League, but still notched two goals and registered six assists as Fulham finished second-bottom.

There's no doubt that a longer feature will follow should Sessegnon's exit come to fruition, with the current saga having a: 'last-gasp deadline-day move' written all over it.

Harvey Elliot (Fulham 2018-2019)
Fulham handed Harvey Elliot the title of the Premier League's youngest ever player in May during the 1-0 defeat to Wolves.

Of the list, Elliot is the player that Fulham fans would have seen the least of, having made just three appearances in all competitions.

Scott Parker was keen to keep hold of the creative midfielder this summer, but alleged interest from Real Madrid, PSG and Liverpool proved to tempting to resist.

The 16-year-old has now turned down the offer of a new deal in London, and is set to join up with Jurgen Klopp's European Champions after his contract expired airier this month.

Cav set to leave Wolves to join Fulham on loan

Ivan Cavaleiro is set to leave Wolves for Fulham on a season-long loan with a view to a £12m permanent transfer.

The Cottagers have beaten off competition from fellow relegated club Huddersfield and play-off finalists Derby for the Portuguese's signature. The 25-year-old was made available for loan or transfer this summer by head coach Nuno Espirito Santo, a decision which quickly sparked no shortage of interest from elsewhere.

As reported by www.wolvesbite.com on May 22, Cavaleiro has long been a target of the Cottagers. He was first linked with a move there last summer. Now the move is set to go through and he will follow Leeds signing Helder Costa back to the Championship.

Cavaleiro will travel to West London for talks rather than board the plane to China with the rest of Wolves' squad this weekend. His departure leaves Wolves desperately short of options in the forward positions after Costa departed. Diogo Jota is now the only experienced, recognised attacker on the trip, with Raul Jimenez on his break to July 22 and the back-up provided by youngster Niall Ennis and the untried Theo Corbeanu, though Adama Traore can play up front.

Cavaliero scored with his first touch in the Premier League when he netted the first in the 2-0 home win over Southampton on Septemeber 29. But he made only six starts in the league for Wolves in 2018-19, with a further 17 appearances off the bench and a total of three goals.

He scored 19 goals in 106 games in all competitions since joining Wolves for a then club joint record £7m in August 2016 from Monaco. He was the first big money signing under Fosun's ownership – signing a five-year contract on the same day as the return of Richard Stearman on loan from Fulham – and helped them win the Championship title in 2017-18, netting nine times in 42 games.

But he struggled for regular action in the second half of last season, making just six starts in the top flight with another 17 appearances off the bench, scoring three goals. He added another two strikes in the FA Cup run to the semi-finals, where he missed a golden chance against Watford at Wembley.

After January 2, Cavaleiro made just one Premier League start, in the 2-0 defeat at Burnley, and, like the now departed Helder Costa, was a victim of the successful switch from 3-4-3 to 3-5-2, which suited Raul Jimenez and Diogo Jota so well.

Aston Villa have reportedly enquired about Fulham starlet Ryan Sessegnon

The young flier is expected to leave Fulham this summer.


Aston Villa are among the club's interested in Fulham starlet Ryan Sessegnon this summer, according to a report by the Daily Telegraph.

Tottenham and Manchester United are also apparently keen, but it is a sign of Villa's ambition that they are also keen on the teenager.

Villa have already landed one England Under-21 international this summer in the shape of Ezri Konsa and would reportedly be happy to land another Young Lion who went to Italy for the European Championship last month.

It would be surprising if Villa were to land Sessegnon's services, as it has looked for so long that he would be destined for Tottenham.

Sessengon's contract situation as well as his status as one of the outstanding young players in English football makes him a hugely attractive proposition for any club this summer.

The delay over his next move could allow Villa the chance to cut in, but they would likely need to break their transfer record once more with the report valuing him at around £25 million.

Villa could use another winger after the departure of Albert Adomah, although perhaps Egyptian international Trezeguet looks the more likely – and affordable – option as it stands.

The Villans aren't messing around this summer though – and landing Sessegnon ahead of some major clubs would be a huge coup.

Fulham identify Premier League transfer target


Fulham has made contact with Premier League side Brighton about the potential signing of attacking midfielder Anthony Knockaert, The Sun has reported.

The London side are keen to make an immediate return to the Premier League following their relegation after just a single year in the top flight last season and have reportedly identified Knockaert as someone who can help them do that.

It is thought that Fulham see Knockaert as a player who can provide them with goals and creativity from the attacking wide areas, following the departures of Andre Schurrle and Ryan Babel, as well as Ryan Sessegnon's anticipated move from Fulham.

Knockaert does have proven pedigree in winning promotion to the Premier League, having been named Championship Player of the Year in 2017 as Brighton finished runners up to Newcastle to secure promotion to the top flight.

While no official bid has been made, initial talks are said to have seen discussions about a £15million transfer fee, with Knockaert thought to be willing to take the step down to the Championship due to the prospect of an increase in his wages to £40,000 a week.

Since joining Brighton from Belgian side Standard Liege in January 2016, Knockaert has made 139 appearances and scored 27 goals in all competitions for the Seagulls.

There are currently three years remaining on the 27-year-old's current contract at The AMEX Stadium, which is set to run until the summer of 2022.

The Verdict

What a signing this could be for Fulham.

Knockaert has already shown during his time at Brighton that he is more than capable of helping teams out of this division, and seems to be just what Fulham need as they look for a quick response to last season's dismal relegation.

With Aleksandar Mitrovic having signed a new contract and a loan move for Wolves' Ivan Cavaleiro apparently close to completion, adding Knockaert would surely complete a three-pronged attack that would cause problems for any defence in the division.

This would be a big statement from Fulham, and it is interesting to note the starting fee discussed sits at £15million, which appears to suggest that Fulham has not been put off spending big by the disastrous campaign that followed their big-spending summer of 12 months ago.

According to an exclusive TEAMtalk report, Fulham are leading the race to sign Everton midfielder Muhamed Besic.

The defensive-minded midfielder, who has been capped 40 times by the Bosnian national team, spent last season on loan at fellow promotion hopefuls Middlesbrough.

The 26-year-old was a key cog in Tony Pulis' packed midfield playing 37 Championship matches for the Teessiders and bagging two goals.

His performances for Boro failed to earn him a spot in Marco Silva's plans next season at Goodison Park and after spending two seasons out on loan in the Championship, Besic will be looking for a permanent move away from Merseyside this summer.

Fulham are said to be leading the race for the 26-year-old and are happy to pay the £5 million asking price in order to bring the midfielder to Craven Cottage this summer.

Besic would link up with club captain and fan favourite Tom Cairney in the midfield as well as Jean Michel Seri, should the 27-year-old Ivorian opt to stay in West London instead of seeking a move elsewhere.

The news of Fulham's interest in Besic is yet another sign of intent from Scott Parker after tieing last season's talismanic top scorer Aleksandar Mitrovic to a new contract in the week.

Fulham are set to sign Ivan Cavaleiro from Wolverhampton Wanderers, according to The Express & Star, meaning that Derby County are set to miss out on the 25-year-old winger.

According to The Express & Star, Fulham are on the verge of landing Cavaleiro on a season-long loan deal from Premier League club Wolves in the summer transfer window.

Elliott is the the youngest ever footballer to play a Premier League game and Fulham regard LIverpool's signing as a test of English football's academy system.

Liverpool have yet to make an offer of compensation to Fulham for Harvey Elliott.

The England youth international has joined Jurgen Klopp 's European champions under freedom of contract and Fulham consider the 16-year-old – the youngest ever footballer to play a Premier League game – to be as talented as Jadon Sancho.

Thus they expect to be compensated appropriately for the winger's development.

Record Sport understands that Fulham regard Liverpool 's acquisition of an individual manager Scott Parker recently labelled "a special talent" as a test of English football's academy system.

Liverpool were one of a number of more financially powerful clubs who sought to take advantage of rules that prevented Fulham from tying Elliott to a senior professional contract until the left-footed winger turns 17 next April.

Should Liverpool fail to offer a transfer fee that meets Fulham's valuation of Elliott, the Championship club is ready to take the case to a Professional Football Compensation Committee tribunal in order to secure what is described as an "adequate" settlement.

Fulham cite the multi-million-pound annual cost of running its 'Category 1'-status academy and the precedent that would be set by allowing him to switch club for a low fee.

In recent years, Liverpool have acquired a number of out-of-contract young English players from domestic rivals. A 2016 PFCC tribunal ordered that they pay Burnley a record guaranteed net sum of £6.5million for Danny Ings plus performance-related variables of £1.5m and 20 per cent of any sell-on profit.

In 2017, they were threatened with another tribunal appearance over the acquisition of Chelsea's then-teenage forward Dominic Solanke before eventually settling the matter club-to club.

Though Ings and Solanke managed a total of five goals between them in Liverpool colours, both were subsequently sold to Premier League clubs for substantial profits. Asked about their failure to offer a transfer fee for Elliott, Liverpool declined to comment.

Surrey-born Elliott established himself as Fulham's youngest first-team footballer when he was deployed as a 15-year-old substitute in September's EFL Cup defeat of Millwall.

Parker named the forward in each of Fulham's final five Premier League match-day squads last season, using him off the bench against Wolverhampton Wanderers at the age of 16 years and 30 days and again versus Newcastle United one week later.

Explaining Elliott's promotion to Fulham's Premier League squad ahead of that debut, Parker said: "He is on the bench because he deserves to be on the bench.

"He has trained with us now for the last three weeks and been outstanding. He is a technically gifted football player. A special talent. He has got a naturalness about him, an ease. He is very clean with the ball, can handle the ball very well for someone so young.

"Harvey has played all his career with kids his own age and now is probably the first time he is playing against men. Often you find that transition is very difficult for young players, but with him you wouldn't know and that's probably the sign of a top player or someone who has the ability to be a top player because the transition he has made has been very smooth.

"Three weeks ago when we put him in I'm waiting for the day to think 'we need to take him out today', but the boy has just taken it with ease.'

According to TeamTalk, Everton have set a £5m price tag on Besic and Fulham are willing to meet it.

Everton midfielder Mo Besic could be on his way to Fulham, with TEAMtalk claiming that the Cottagers are leading the chase to sign the £5 million-rated Bosnian international.

It has been a busy day on the speculation front in West London. The Sun claims that Fulham are considering a £15 million move for Brighton and Hove Albion winger Anthony Knockaert who, just two years ago, was posing with the Championship Player of the Year award after a 15-goal season inspired the Seagulls to promotion.

Should he arrive, coupled with Besic's addition in midfield, Scott Parker's recently-relegated side would appear to have a far better chance of returning to the Premier League at the first time of asking.

After all, Besic will certainly provide the kind of bite a Fulham side who conceded 81 league goals last season so desperately need in central midfield.

Fulham are ready to pay his £5 million price-tag and the 26-year-old is willing to turn down clubs in France, Italy and Germany to seal a move to Craven Cottage.

According to The Sun, Fulham have made contact with Brighton to discuss a £15 million transfer for Anthony Knockaert.

Following Fulham's relegation from the Premier League last season, Scott Parker will be desperate to reinvigorate his squad. The best way to do that this summer is by making some smart signings. Given Fulham performed so poorly last season, changes are certainly due at Craven Cottage.

Knockaert could also do with a change himself. The 27-year-old winger has been with the Seagulls since 2016 and has certainly had some good times at the Amex Stadium. However, the Frenchman struggled to impress last season as Brighton flirted with relegation from the top flight. The coastal club need to improve ahead of the new campaign and that should mean finding an upgrade for Knockaert.

A return to the Championship could help the attacker to get back to his best. He has shone in the second tier before and could so again for Fulham. He has the capacity to help the London club achieve promotion back to the Premier League.

Knockaert would be a good signing for Fulham. However, £15 million is a big fee for such a player. Fulham need to learn the lessons of last summer and avoid overpaying for players. If they can drive a hard bargain and secure Knockaert's services for a fair fee then it would be a good deal for all involved.

Anthony Knockaert is a target for Championship club Fulham.

The relegated Londoners have made contact with the Seagulls over the French winger, an insider has confirmed to The Argus.

It follows a report in The Sun, claiming a £15 million fee has been discussed.

No bid has been made yet by Fulham for Knockaert, who still has three years left on his contract.

Knockaert signed a long term deal after helping fire Albion to promotion to the Premier League in 2016-17.

He scored 15 goals and was named the Championship player of the year.

Knockaert's fortunes have been mixed in two seasons with Albion in the Premier League.

He has scored five goals in 45 starts and 18 substitute appearances, the latest a spectacular winner at arch rivals Crystal Palace in March.

Knockaert was also sent-off at Everton the previous season.

Fulham are keen to make an immediate return to the Premier League under Scott Parker after finishing two places and ten points below Albion in 19th last season.

They have demonstrated their intent by retaining the services of Serbian striker Aleksandar Mitrovic, an Albion target during Hughton's reign.

Knockaert is expected to make his first appearance for Potter in the Seagulls' opening friendly in Austria against FC Liefering tomorrow afternoon.

Fulham and Jacksonville Jaguars owner Shahid Khan's door is still open to the FA if they want to sell Wembley Stadium to him.

Hussain Naqi, the NFL team's London-based senior vice president of international development, also said the Jaguars are looking at extending their deal at the national stadium beyond the present contract, which runs until the 2020 season.

Khan first attempted to buy Wembley last October, but withdrew his £600m offer not long afterwards with FA chief executive Martin Glenn calling the plan "more divisive than expected".
Nevertheless, the possibility remains that Khan could re-emerge as a candidate to buy the stadium.

"We're interested if the FA is interested in engaging, but there's nothing new to report," Naqi said.

He also reaffirmed the team's commitment to Wembley, where they will host the Houston Texans on 3 November. It will be their seventh successive season of playing a home game there.

"We love playing at Wembley," Naqi said. "From a pitch and facilities perspective, we're very comfortable.

"Negotiations are ongoing and they're going well. I wouldn't anticipate us taking a step back from the market."

Naqi was speaking at the Jaguars' playing academy at Brunel University in west London. The academy gives British and European players the chance to experience a typical NFL training camp, as well being coached by several ex-Jags' players. It is just one grassroots scheme the team has in place, which also includes the JagTag non-contact schools programme, which started three and a half years ago and now reaches thousands of children in over 90 schools across the UK.

"One of the things we've seen is an explosion in participation," Naqi said. "There are now 55,000 kids playing American football here on a weekly basis throughout London and the UK." And all this is paying off in terms of the team's popularity in Britain.

No relocation in the works

"When we started this we were 30th, 31st in terms of popularity and now we're fourth," Naqi said. "If you look at ticket sales, our game against the Philadelphia Eagles last year [at Wembley] was the most in-demand ticket across the NFL irrespective of geography."

In terms of whether the Jaguars have a more permanent future in London, Naqi said the Jags were happy with their current set-up.

"Relocation is a question that's decided at the ownership level – it's not even a Jags decision, it's done at the league level," he said. "Our commitment is to playing the one game that we're playing right now, and we're really excited to be doing that, and we're excited to be committed to the market and doing things like this."

Knockaert, who famously missed a penalty in Leicester's play-off semi final defeat at Watford in 2013, scored five goals in 42 appearances as the Foxes won promotion the following season. Sky Sports claims that Fulham's compensation for Harvey Elliott will be decided by a tribunal after Liverpool and the Cottagers failed to agree on a fee for the youngster.

The 16-year-old Fulham midfielder is out of a contract at the Cottagers and rejected a new deal at the Championship club (h/t Sky Sports).

The report adds that Elliott is set to join the Reds on youth terms, and was linked with Real Madrid, RB Leipzig and Barcelona.

Elliott also holds the record for being the youngest player to feature in the Premier League when he faced Wolves in May.

Fulham could not keep their status in the Premier League and were relegated back to the Championship last season.

The report adds that Elliott should feature for the first-team at Anfield, but FA rules claim that players under 17 cannot sign professional deals.

Fulham fall to Burnley defeat

A Chris Wood penalty condemned Fulham to their second pre-season defeat as the Whites were beaten by Burnley on the Algarve this evening.

The New Zealand striker notched the winning goal twenty minutes from time – beating Fabri from twelve yards – after a rash Cyrus Christie challenge on Ben Mee inside the box. Wood had the chance to put a more convincing gloss on the scoreline with time running out but he rattled the crossbar with a firm header from a corner.

A strong Burnley side that included former Fulham academy graduate Johann Berg Gudmundsson had the better of the early exchanges. Jay Rodriguez thought he had started his second stint with Sean Dyche's side in the finest possible manner but his powerful header from Robbie Brady's free-kick was ruled out for offside. Fulham operated mostly on the counter attack, but Mee had to be alert to deny rampaging left back Joe Bryan after the Whites' most fluent passage of play.

American midfielder Luca da le Torre had Fulham's other clear opening of note but Nick Pope made a smart save. Scott Parker opted to mark only three substitutes at half-time, saving most of his alterations for just after the hour mark as he sought to build up Fulham's fitness levels, whilst Dyche made ten half-time changes.

Fulham fashioned the first opportunity of the second period with former England goalkeeper Joe Hart reacting quickly to keep out a low drive from Neeskens Kebano. The winger then whipped in a teasing cross for Fonte, who could only head harmlessly over the bar. In a tight contest, the Clarets gradually began to pose more of a threat with a blistering Jack Cork wide flying wide courtesy of a deflection.

Parker's side finish their pre-season tour of Portugal with a tough test against Porto on Tuesday night.

Muhamed Besic has emerged as a target of recently-relegated Fulham and are lining up an offer according to a report.

Th report comes from Teamtalk, an outlet not known for breaking reliable stories these days but say that they want to sign Besic for £5m this summer.

The Bosnia-Herzegovina international joined Everton in 2014 but fell out of favour following the departure of Roberto Martinez and a series of injuries.

He spent last season on loan at Middlesbrough and could return to the Championship in a permanent move if this report holds any water.
