The Club is delighted to confirm the signing of Ivan Cavaleiro on loan from Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The 25-year-old has agreed a season-long deal with the Whites, and the Club holds the option to make the transfer permanent next summer.

An exciting winger who is comfortable on either flank – and can also play centrally – Cavaleiro was an integral part of the Wolves side that won the Sky Bet Championship in 2017/18.

In his 42 matches that season, Cavaleiro scored nine times and laid on a further 12 assists for his teammates as Wolves claimed the title in style.

That was his second season at Molineux, and he also managed to reach double figures for goals and assists in his maiden campaign as well.

A change in formation lessened Cavaleiro's opportunities last season in the Premier League, but he still managed to find the back of the net three times. In total, he scored 19 goals and claimed 20 assists in his 106 games for Wolves.

Speaking to fulhamfc.com, Cavaleiro said:

"I'm really happy to be here and sign for Fulham. This is a big and respected club in England and through the rest of the world. Fulham has been involved in a European final, so it holds great pedigree. This is a good opportunity for me to grow as a player as well so I'm very happy to be here and I'm excited to be meeting everyone today."

Tony Khan added:

"Ivan Cavaleiro is a great and important addition to Fulham Football Club. Ivan's been a top target for Fulham for several years. He's an excellent attacking player who, like so many of our experienced squad, has made a great contribution to a Championship side that achieved promotion to the Premier League. I'm thrilled that we have been able to work with Wolves and Ivan and his representatives to negotiate this deal to bring Ivan Cavaleiro to Craven Cottage. Come on Fulham!"

After coming through the Benfica academy and starring for their B team, Cavaleiro made his debut for the senior team in a cup tie in October 2013, and impressed his manager so much that he was involved again in their Champions League tie against Olympiakos a few days later.

Benfica ended up dropping out of the Champions League but excelled in the Europa League, with Cavaleiro part of the team that reached the 2014 Final where they lost on penalties to Sevilla.

The following campaign he enjoyed a season in La Liga, playing 34 times while on loan at Deportivo de La Coruna.

His performances in Spain caught the attentions of AS Monaco, who brought him to Ligue 1 on a permanent deal for a sizeable transfer fee. He made his debut in a Champions League qualifier against BSC Young Boys, and netted his first goal for the club in the reverse leg a week later.

Cavaleiro only spent one year in France before Wolves came calling, with the West Midlanders parting with a reported club record fee for his services.

A regular for Portugal throughout the age groups, Cavaleiro is now a full international having made his debut for the senior side in February 2014.

This is really great and I look forward to watching him.  I will say I hope we do not go down the route of having a ton of subs again like our last promotion season.  Would rather have solid permanent signings.

This at least has a confirmed option to buy, so it isn't like last time around.

Cavailero also is way higher quality than any of the wingers we loaned last time around. I still have no idea why we got Jordan Graham in.

Exactly.
Loan with option to buy is the best of both worlds.

This stands alone as a really good signing. When you read the responses from Wolves fans on social media to losing Ivan you realise they believe we've just pulled off a promotion winning deal. Let's hope so.

Well done Tony. Thank You.

Wolves got rid of their MD a few days ago and have loaned or sold several players over the last week or so. The hold up could have very well been there end.

Good news and just about time enough to get him ready for the first match.
Our attack looking potent now:-

   Cavaleiro             Mitrovic          Kamara

                  Cairney               Johanson

                           Anguissa

Could be exciting.

Luis' name is actually "good death" in Portuguese 😆

Ivan is a great signing - proven quality in the Championship and a clear sign of our intent to prospective players and hopefully those like Sess who may (or may not) be wavering.

Might be getting greedy but if we can secure a statement GK who commands his box and maybe a CB (although Ream and Mawson could be a cracking pair at Champ level) then we are looking in a pretty good shape squad wise.

I also think his end product in terms of goals and assists is poor.

Are you having a laugh?

In his 42 matches in 2017/18, Cavaleiro scored nine times and laid on a further 12 assists.

Yes indeed. In all his time in The Championship he scored or assisted every 135 minutes of playing time.  That is exceptionally productive.

I usually ignore fans of other clubs coming on here, especially when they are, albeit politely,  telling us we've been mugged off. Personally, in this instance, I don't think we have!

You'll see.

Why do you think we're selling him and at the same time have a really thin squad with only two confirmed attackers (ignoring the academy).

I've seen many attempted crosses and shots from Cav. hit the corner flag.

Although this is the championship, he's no good for where we're going.

But you can't fail really with an option to buy, hope it works out as we still have a vested interest in him.

is Costa equally aa bad

My bro in law, a life-long Wolves supporter and season ticket holder, thinks highly of him but says under the regime at Wolves and change of formation he was unlikely to regain a regular first team place. Quite popular amongst Wolves supporters. (He is a far better option than Traore might have been.)

Trawled all Wolves social media this evening & the overwhelming verdict is they're sad to see him go & Fulham have got themselves a real player.
Bit like the hotel reviews when the vast majority give a place 5/5 then someone pops up with a 2.
Wolves fan I spoke to tonight said Cavs a top player & hes gutted to see him go, said he was brilliant in their championship winning side. Went on to say he wasn't so effective in the Premier league because Wolves tweaked their formation a bit & he didnt get a run of games.
All in all Cairney, Mitro & Cavaleiro will be amongst the best few players in this league. A couple more, Arter, Hector etc & another right back & I reckon we'll be hard to bet against this season

Realistically, as a Championship club we're not going to sign players that will be automatic starters in a top 8 PL side, which is what Wolves are now.

However, he's clearly a top, top player at Championship level and may even serve us well if we get promoted and seek to re-stabilise as a decent bottom half or mid-table PL team.

As for Wolves, they'll have their season or two in the sun but football history tells you it takes several decades to develop a decent top 8 PL side, and it never ends well for those who think throwing money around will get you there quicker. They'll go the way of Leeds and QPR eventually, and pass us on the way down. Just as we did with Villa this year, unfortunately.

Cavaleiro is certainly one of the better risks (all recruitment carries some risk, players or otherwise) TK has taken as a 'not last minute' signing and he is an attacker.  Although, it seems, on reputation, he may lack that familiar recovery ability when he or a team mate loses the ball, he has a better reputation as a more disciplined player in a defensive press formation.  I'll be interested to see how he combines with whoever plays as his partnering fullback and there is still time enough for the first smatterings of such a relationship to begin to build in the next few weeks.

Parker has a very useful and needed addition to the squad especially if RS decides he wants to stay, recovers from injury and is fit to begin the season on day one.  Now can we have two more additions to key positions (RB, RCB) this week please.

I like this because we have the option to buy. Too many of our previous loans established themselves then left at season end to return to their clubs, leaving us with gaps in the squad.

If we can bring in one or two defenders and perhaps a left sided attacker, depending on Sess, then I will be happy. I just hope Mitro doesn't get injured because I don't believe we have adequate cover, but I guess you never have the perfect squad.
