Fulham Secures Skilling As 2019/20 Back Of Shirt Sponsor
(https://ffcw001.azureedge.net/-/media/sponsorship/ffc_skilling_launch_photo_622.jpg?w=622&h=278)

We are pleased to announce online FX and CFD trading platform, Skilling, as the Club's new back of shirt sponsor and principal partner for the 19/20 season.

In addition to the Skilling logo featuring on the back of the First Team playing shirts for each match, the brand will also benefit from prominent exposure at Craven Cottage as well as across the Club's digital and social channels.

Skilling, launched earlier this year, is demystifying financial trading by making it simple and accessible to everyone through its innovative approach to customer experience in an industry known for its complexity and convolution.

Both Fulham FC and Skilling share sizeable aspirations as Fulham looks to secure a return to the Premier League at the first attempt, and Skilling aims to become a major player in the industry.

Fulham's rich history and credible reputation were strong factors in attracting Skilling, as they look to grow across the UK and Europe.

There is also strong alignment across audiences and Fulham FC's popularity in Scandinavia and association with several Norwegian players, including current Norway Captain Stefan Johansen, was a further incentive given Skilling's Scandinavian roots.

Fulham Football Club CEO, Alistair Mackintosh, said: "I'm excited at the prospect of the football club partnering with Skilling for the forthcoming season and hope that both parties are successful in achieving their goals. With considerable alignment across both organisations I am confident that it will be a very fruitful partnership for both of us."

Skilling's CMO, Pavel Spirin, added: "When we began speaking to Fulham FC, we quickly discovered we had a shared vision. Fulham strives to be accessible to its fans, which resonates with our vision to make trading simple and accessible to everyone. We love the club, the fans and the heritage.

"With our shared plans for the future – Fulham's push to get straight back into the Premier League and ours to bring trading to everyone – the partnership could not have come at a more opportune time. We're excited to see where this takes us both in the coming season."

Fulham player close to signing for newly promoted club, talks continue

According to Fanatik, newly promoted Turkish Super Lig side Gazisehir Gaziantep FK are close to signing Fulham goalkeeper Fabri.

It's reported the club are in talks with the Spanish goalkeeper and are hoping to confirm his signing in the next few days.

Former Besiktas player Fabri joined Fulham last summer for €6m but failed to prove himself in the Premier League, making just two appearances in his debut season in England.

There have been recent reports linking the 31 year old with moves to the likes of Besiktas and Fenerbahce but it seems Gazisehir FK could be the Super Lig club to sign him from Fulham.

Along with Fabri, Fanatik also claim the Turkish side are close to signing former Manchester City striker Wilfried Bony, who recently left Swansea City when his contract expired.

Fabri still has two years remaining on his current deal at Craven Cottage but looks surplus to requirements under Scott Parker. The player hasn't had a single competitive appearance since the arrival of Parker late last season.

Games for the weekend 3/7/19
We start the news season with an away trip to Barnsley
(https://www.friendsoffulham.com/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/BarnsleyFulham.png)
After last season's disappointment we start this season as one of the favourites for promotion, we'll see as the season unfolds.
We've had a reasonably quiet transfer window, Cavalerio and Knockaet look to be good loan signings however, at the time of writing, with the lack of additions/strengthening to the back 4 we could be in for another high scoring, high conceding season? it's also a worry that Alfie Mawson was injured against West Ham.

Barnsley have a very good home record and I'm sure will be looking to get off to a good start and will be aiming to take 'the scalp' of one of the leagues big boys.

Digital traders score new partnership with Fulham FC alongside Adidas

Online trading platform Skilling has been appointed as the back of shirt sponsor and principal partner of Fulham FC.

The EFL Championship club will sit alongside Dafabet and Adidas for the 2019/2020 season.

The Skilling logo will feature on the back of the first team playing shirts for each match. This way, the brand could benefit from significant exposure in person and across digital platforms.

Pavel Spirin, CMO at Skilling, said: "When we began speaking to Fulham FC, we quickly discovered we had a shared vision.

"Fulham strives to be accessible to its fans, which resonates with our vision to make trading simple and accessible to everyone. We love the club, the fans and the heritage.

With our shared plans for the future - Fulham's push to get straight back into the Premier League and ours to bring trading to the masses - the partnership could not have come at a more opportune time.

"We're excited to see where this takes us both in the coming season."

Skilling is an innovative Scandinavian-owned financial tech platform, wanting to make financial trading accessible to everyone. Skilling first launched its offering to the UK only earlier this year.

Alistair Mackintosh, CEO at Fulham FC, added: "I'm excited at the prospect of the football club partnering with Skilling for the forthcoming season and hope that both parties are successful in achieving their goals."

New Broker Skilling Signs Sponsorship with Fulham
FX and CFDs trading platform Skilling starts its foray into the industry with a football sponsorship

A new brokerage company is venturing into the already widely competitive retail broking space in Europe. The company's name is Skilling and the firm has developed its own proprietary trading platform to enter the space.

Backed by the Scandinavian shareholders of Optimizer Invest, and with Skilling licensed by the CySEC, the firm is venturing into the industry at a key time. Optimizer already has some investments in the space with Catena Media and Gaming Innovation Group, and owns a large number of affiliate websites.

The co-founders of the brokerage are Swedes Henrik Persson Ekdahl and Mikael Riese Harstad and Norwegian Andre Lavold. The firm was established in 2016 and has been developing its own technology stack to venture into the market.

Today's deal with London-based football club Fulham is the first significant commitment on part of the company to expands its presence in the market. The firm launched its offering in the UK earlier this year together with Sweden, Norway, and Germany. With the offering now available in the rest of the EU, the firm is strongly committed to continuing to invest in its growth.

Last year Fulham was relegated to the EFL Championship after several team management reshufflings. With a strong commitment to getting back into the premier league, the team is facing a hefty challenge in the coming season.

"With our shared plans for the future – Fulham's push to get straight back into the Premier League and ours to bring trading to the masses – the partnership could not have come at a more opportune time," commented the CMO of Skilling, Pavel Spirin.

The Skilling brand will be displayed on the back of the shirts of Fulham's players. The deal puts the broker's logo alongside Adidas and Dafabet, for the 2019/2020 season. The brand will also benefit from prominent exposure at Craven Cottage as well as across the club's digital and social channels.

Skilling is not the first forex and CFDs brokerage to sponsor Fulham. Last year ICM.com was the club's jersey sponsor.

Have Tottenham Hotspur's chances of getting Ryan Sessegnon increased?

Tottenham Hotspur winger Georges Kevin N'Koudou could reportedly been used in a swap deal for Fulham winger Ryan Sessegnon.

Tottenham Hotspur's move for Ryan Sessegnon may have received a boost last night, after Georges Kevin N'Koudou's wonderful piece of skill.

N'Koudou actually impressed after being handed a start by Tottenham in their pre-season friendly against Bayern Munich.

The French winger, who looks totally surplus to requirements with Mauricio Pochettino's side, was finally given a chance to showcase his quality and he took it.

N'Koudou set up Tottenham's first goal in the match with a wonderful piece of skill, before putting in a fine cross to Erik Lamela, who poked home at the far post.

It is unlikely that Pochettino's opinion on N'Koudou will have changed, as he has never looked up to cutting it at Tottenham during his time at the club.

However, Fulham may well have been watching on and they are sure to have been impressed by N'Koudou's display.

With the Telegraph suggesting that N'Koudou could be used in a swap deal for £25 million-rated Sessegnon, Tottenham's chances of getting the youngster have surely increased.

Fulham may have had some doubts about taking N'Koudou previously, but they have now seen his talents first-hand.

Although it would be foolish to judge a player off one dribble, his potential arrival surely looks more appealing now.

N'Koudou had previously struggled at Tottenham, but for a Championship side to have a player who has proven to have the ability to trouble the Bayern defence can only be an exciting prospect.

And Pochettino may just be delighted with N'Koudou's display, as there is no doubting his stock increased last night, which may make it easier for Tottenham to get hold of Sessegnon.

Mawson fit to face Barnsley

Alfie Mawson will be fit for Fulham's Championship opener at Barnsley after shaking off a knee injury during last weekend's pre-season friendly against West Ham.

The former England under-21 international defender had limped out of Fulham's final pre-season game at the start of the second half after an innocuous challenge, reviving memories of how he had missed almost four months of last term after suffering a similar injury against Huddersfield at Christmas. The injury had sparked concerns that Fulham might need to enter the transfer market to add central defensive cover, but manager Scott Parker has confirmed that Mawson will be available at Oakwell.

"Both Stefan Johansen and Alfie Mawson have come through training this week," Parker told the media during his pre-match press conference this afternoon at Motspur Park. "Alfie Mawson was cautionary and Stefan got a knock late on, but both players have come through this week okay.

Whoever is picked on Saturday, there's an opportunity to make a statement. Barnsley are used to winning and it's going to be tough. We're under no illusions. It's going to be a real battle and hopefully we come out on top."

Parker said he had really enjoyed his first summer in management after being confirmed as Fulham's permanent manager, after winning three of his ten games as a caretaker as the Whites were relegated from the Premier League last May.

"I've enjoyed it. It's been six weeks of working with the team, getting some ideas across, working the players pretty hard for what's going to be a tough year. There's been some good quality work gone in which has been pleasing. The players are looking forward to what's going to be a massive campaign."

The former Fulham midfielder felt that confidence was high at Craven Cottage after the Whites managed to retain the services of captain Tom Cairney and striker Aleksandar Mitrovic. The pair, so critical to Fulham's promotion from the Championship in 2017/2018, both signed contract extensions during the summer.

"I think it was vitally important. We recognised that at the back end of last season, and fair play to the hierarchy at the football club for convincing these players to stay and tying them down on long contracts. These players are going to be pivotal for us this year, in their knowledge of the league, their quality of course as players, but first and foremost their knowledge of the league and how this division works, because it's relentless at times."

Head Coach press conference
(https://ffcw001.azureedge.net/-/media/scott_parker/pa-44216167.jpg?w=622&h=278)

Scott Parker tackled a range of topics in Thursday's press conference ahead of our Sky Bet Championship opener against Barnsley.

Pre-season...

I've enjoyed it. It's been six weeks of working with the team, getting some ideas across, working the players pretty hard for what's going to be a tough year. There's been some good quality work gone in which has been pleasing. The players are looking forward to what's going to be a massive campaign.

New contracts for Tom Cairney and Aleksandar Mitrović...

I think it was vitally important. We recognised that at the back end of last season, and fair play to the hierarchy at the football club for convincing these players to stay and tying them down on long contracts. These players are going to be pivotal for us this year, in their knowledge of the league, their quality of course as players, but first and foremost their knowledge of the league and how this division works, because it's relentless at times.

Alfie Mawson and Stefan Johansen being substituted against West Ham...

Both players have come through the week. Alfie Mawson was cautionary and Stefan got a knock late on, but both players have come through this week okay.

Transfers...

I think we understand that we'd like to bring some more players in as we are light in certain areas. We've done some fantastic business in [Ivan] Cavaleiro and [Anthony] Knockaert – sensible and very, very good business, but at the same time I think if you're a Fulham fan or you're sitting in my position, or even ownership's position, we all realise that there are certain areas of this team that need strengthening, just to add a little bit of depth. I know everything here at the club is trying to make that happen.

Barnsley...

For whoever gets picked, regardless of who the first game had been, there's an opportunity to make a statement. That's my message playing against a team that's used to winning. They got promoted last year, they're familiar with winning football matches. It's going to be tough, I'm under no illusions and the players will be under no illusions. On Saturday it's going to be a real, real battle. We understand that and hopefully we'll come out on top.

Tonge: "This weekend is a great opportunity for us."

Coach's thoughts on season-opener

Ahead of our 2019/20 Sky Bet Championship season opener against Fulham on Saturday, Dale Tonge insists Barnsley are relishing the prospect of facing one of the promotion favourites.

Following their relegation from the top flight last term, the Cottagers have retained a wealth of quality and even added to their ranks as they aim to secure an immediate return to the Premier League.

However, the Reds' First Team Coach believes it is a challenge that his players are looking forward to as they look to test themselves against high calibre opposition.

"Frightening or exciting?" debated Tonge when asked whether he was concerned by the prospect of facing Scott Parker's side. "I think it's a great opportunity for our players to show what level they're at.

"They're an ex-Premier League team and they've got some fantastic players with a lot of individual quality but, at the same time, we feel that we've got enough in our locker to hurt them, and it's just a case of us implementing our game on Saturday.

"We think we're good enough to perform at this level and there's no bigger test than the first game of the season with [Aleksandar] Mitrović, [Ivan] Cavaleiro, [Aboubakar] Kamara and [Anthony] Knockaert – you can reel them all off the tongue, but I think it's really exciting for our players and this club to have Fulham coming."

Aside from long-term absentee Kenny Dougall, Barnsley can virtually report a clean bill of health for this weekend's encounter.

Jacob Brown is still unavailable after he picked up an injury during pre-season training in Nice, and Tonge provided an update on the young forward.

"Everyone is coming through training and getting a lot more minutes in their legs in terms of training time, so at the moment the squad is looking good," continued the Reds' First Team Coach.

"With Jacob, post-injury we estimated eight weeks and I think we're half way through that now, so we're probably looking at another month. But he's a bit of a different animal; he tends to come back quicker than most, so we're trying to put the reins on him a little bit.

"He wants to get back, which is understandable but, with the nature of the injury and having previous, it's a case of managing as best we can but he's looking really good."

With the Reds completing no less than 10 new signings in the summer transfer window, there has been plenty of transition on the training ground at Oakwell.

And while some believe that so many changes could be advantageous to the opposition in the opening stages of the campaign, Tonge feels Barnsley could throw up a few surprises.

"I think our biggest advantage this year is that we are the unknown; if we'd have kept the team from last year there would have been a lot more that clubs could have identified with us in terms of the players and knowing them more," asserted the 34-year-old.

"But, because this is a new group, I think it's exciting that we're the unknown and I think we're going to surprise a few teams."

On Saturday 3rd August we travel to Oakwell for our first game of the new Championship season (3pm kick off). FST board member Dan Crawford presents our away day guide to Barnsley.
TICKETING INFORMATION

Tickets are still available for Fulham's first Championship fixture of the season and will be on sale on the gate on Saturday. Fulham fans can buy tickets by calling the Ticket Office on 0203 871 0810 (option 3) before 3pm on Friday 2nd August.

On Saturday, tickets will be available from the North Stand turnstiles but will be cash sales only, priced at £30 for adults, £22 for adults aged 65 and over, £22 for young adults aged between 19 and 21, £12 for juniors aged between 12 and 18 and £7 for juniors under 12, who are accompanied by an adult. Supporters are advised that junior supporters will need to bring proof of ID/age and that junior tickets will be sold from the home ticket office.
GETTING TO OAKWELL
BY CAR

Come off the M1 at Junction 37 and take the A628 towards Barnsley. You can stay on this road until you reach Oakwell – following the signs – and the ground will come into view on your right. Please be aware that most of the car parks at the ground will be available for permit holders only. Your best bets for car parking are the Queens Grounds (priced at £5 for cars, post code S71 1AN) and the MetroDome, although this can be very slow to get out of after the final whistle.
BY TRAIN

Barnsley Railway Station is approximately a ten minute walk away from Oakwell. After exiting the train station, head left and towards the bridge that the dual carriageway goes over. Walk under the bridge, turn left up the slip road and then take your first right and walk towards the MetroDome leisure complex at the top of the hill. The ground will come into view as you head towards the MetroDome. Supporters should note that the Jumble Lane bridge crossing will be closed for around an hour after the game.
BY COACH

The Club's official coaches will depart from Motspur Park and Craven Cottage at 8.45am.
AWAY PUBS

One of the regular away fans' haunts is the Metrodrome Leisure Complex, which is located close to the ground itself. The complex has a bar inside and can open additional bars for larger away allocations.

The Dove Inn (102 Doncaster Rd, Barnsley S70 1TP) has proved popular with Fulham fans in the past. Featured in the CAMRA Good Beer Guide, the Dove is linked to the Old Mill Brewery and welcomes a mixture of home and away supporters. The Dove is just five minutes' walk from the ground. Also located on Doncaster Road, is the Barnsley East Dene Working Men's Club, which admits away supporters for a small donation and also offers car parking for £2. The Harbour Hills Working Men's Club (Vernon Street) also normally welcomes away fans.

There are a number of other real ale options in the town centre. The Arcade Alehouse (31 The Arcade, Barnsley S70 2QP) is a highly recognised micropub, which typically offers five or six real ales and ciders as well as local pork pies at very reasonable prices. The Alehouse has previously welcomed away fans.

The Old No7 (7 Market Hill, Barnsley S70 2PX), popular with Fulham fans on previous visits, offers a good choice of ales from Acorn Brewery and other guest breweries as well cider and a number of craft beers and pork pies.

The local Wetherspoons is the Silkstone Inn (64 Market St, Barnsley S70 1SN), which is also listed in the CAMRA Good Beer Guide. The Joseph Bramah (15 Market Hill, Barnsley S70 2PX) on Market Hill is another Wetherspoons option and usually welcomes both home and visiting fans.

Alcohol is available inside Oakwell, with bottles of Carling (£3.70), cans of Worthington (£3.50) and cans of Kingstone Press Cider (£3.90) all on offer.

The Trust would like to thank Barnsley FC and the Barnsley Supporters' Trust for their assistance in putting together this information.

Barnsley FC have also kindly provided two very useful documents for travelling fans which can be accessed via our web site by clicking the links below

Club statement: Jay Stansfield

Exeter City wishes Jay all the best following his move to Fulham

Exeter City has reluctantly accepted an offer from Fulham for first-year academy scholar Jay Stansfield.

Jay, 16,  was a talented member of our under-18s side last season, helping the team to the final of the EFL Youth Alliance Cup and a credible third-place finish in the south west league standings last season.

However, following an offer from Fulham, Jay will now link up with the London side.

The fee agreed is undisclosed at Fulham's request. However, while it is more than what the club would likely get in an arbitration fee and also includes add-ons and sell on, it is below what Exeter City feel is Jay's true value.

Chairman Julian Tagg said: "While Fulham have payed above what we would likely to get in an arbitration fee from the Professional Football Compensation Committee and therefore it was sensible for the club to accept, the ability for football clubs, with much bigger resources at their disposal, to take young players from successful academies like Exeter City at a fraction of the cost of which they are valued, is a problem that football still needs to solve.

"We, like many clubs, feel the Elite Performance Player Plan's rules – which fix transfer fees between academies – is heavily weighted in favour of sides higher up the football pyramid and ignores clubs like Exeter City, which do a tremendous job in producing talented young footballers.

"We, of course, must praise the fine work of all of our staff at Exeter City Academy who continue to work tirelessly to develop the next group of excellent footballers and well-rounded young men.

"However, those efforts are being undermined by the current system in place and we will continue to work with the Football League to find a solution to this. And that is not just for our academy, but for all those coaches and staff around Leagues One and Two, who continue to work hard to produce the next generation of talented footballers for the English game.

"The club would like to place on record its thanks to Jay and his family for their hard-work and dedication to Exeter City and we wish them all the very best for the future.

"Every effort was made to keep Jay at the club, but our ethos has always been to put the player's wishes first and the move to a category one club in Fulham was what was felt best for Jay, by both him and his family, and we look forward to following his continued success in the game."

Whilst we are on the Stansfield subject, following some questions from supporters, the club would also like to confirm that the No. 9 shirt of our much-loved striker Adam will not be used this season. The shirt did come back into circulation following nine years of retirement out of respect to Adam and his huge contribution to the team whilst wearing it.

It will be made available for use next season.

McGeehan: "Oakwell will be buzzing on Saturday."

Midfielder ahead of season-opener

Ahead of the opening round of fixtures in the Sky Bet Championship, influential midfielder Cameron McGeehan expressed his delight in welcoming Fulham to Oakwell on Saturday; a game which is sure to live long in his memory.

Age nine, McGeehan signed his first ever footballing contract when he joined the academy setup at Craven Cottage.

Fast forward 15 years, and the central midfielder will be lining up against his former club this weekend and insists he couldn't have wished for a better way to kick off the new campaign.

"It's going to be a great first game to have. It's a good time to play them because they've just come down and they'll have pressure to go back up again.

"On the other hand, it's also a bad time for them to play us because we've just been promoted and it's our first game back in the division. We're at home as well, so Oakwell will be buzzing and we're all looking forward to it."

After a one-year absence from the Sky Bet Championship, the Reds will be looking to make their return to the division even more special, by beating a recently relegated Fulham side, packed full of star names.

McGeehan says the team will relish the challenge of facing former Premier League opposition and believes the squad can send out a real statement with a positive result on Saturday.

"They [Fulham], have got a lot of good players that are very well known, but they've just been relegated, so it's going to be an interesting test.

"However, we know we've got the momentum from last year going into the game, so we just have to go out there, focus on ourselves and go into it giving everything we've got."

The 24-year-old also praised Head Coach, Daniel Stendel's philosophy and hopes the team can continue to build on the momentum and the success of gaining automatic promotion from Sky Bet League One last season.

"Between every level, there's a little bit of a difference." The former Luton star explained.

"Obviously, the pace of the game will be faster, but we played with high intensity over the course of last season, so we'll look to continue to bring that mantra in during this campaign and maybe even surprise a few teams early on.

"We're all young and hungry for success and we've got a powerful group too, so that's what we'll plan to bring to the games.

"We'll look to play the same way that earned us promotion last season and with the success of that, I hope we can try get at teams by being on the front foot, especially here at Oakwell.

"It been a fortress for us over the last year, and we've got to make sure we can keep that going. The home support was massive and hopefully we can get that again and do the same thing, so we can pick up a lot of points in the process."

Fulham sign Stansfield

Fulham have this afternoon confirmed the signing of Exeter City forward Jay Stansfield for an undisclosed fee.

The 16 year-old starred for Exeter's Under 18 side last season as the Grecians reached the final of the EFL Youth Alliance Cup and finished third in the south division last term. Stansfield, who will feature for Fulham's under 18 side during the forthcoming campaign, has already flown to Switzerland to represent his new club in the FC Aesch International Tournament this weekend.

In a statement following the news, Exeter revealed their unhappiness that one of their prized assets was moving on for below what their valuation. City chairman Julian Tagg said:

"While Fulham have payed above what we would likely to get in an arbitration fee from the Professional Football Compensation Committee and therefore it was sensible for the club to accept, the ability for football clubs, with much bigger resources at their disposal, to take young players from successful academies like Exeter City at a fraction of the cost of which they are valued, is a problem that football still needs to solve.

Stansfield is the eldest son of the former Exeter, Hereford and Yeovil striker Adam, who sadly died of cancer aged just 31.

Alan Curbishley reveals serious Charlton concerns and assesses Scott Parker's chances with Fulham

Former Charlton Athletic boss Alan Curbishley has revealed serious concerns over the state of his former side heading into the new Championship season.

With just a week of the summer transfer window left to run, he insists that the Addicks are still in need of more additions following their promotion but is aware that the conditions surrounding the club could make that difficult to achieve

"[Charlton] have to bring some players in, it's very difficult," he told the Racing Post (as handed to FLW via agency Ready10).

"A day after promotion via the play-offs, he lost half his team. There were loan signings and people out of contract, they couldn't compete with the wages that other clubs were offering.

"I think the next week before the window closes, it's going to be an important time for Lee (Bowyer) and Charlton. I think they need another three or four players in.

"The club is in turmoil. Not so much with Lee and the squad, but I can see more demonstrations going on.

"I think the fans left off (the protests) last season and it really did the club a favour. The longer this goes on, if results go against them early on, there'll be more demonstrations at the club and it won't bode well for the season."

This summer has seen seven new faces arrive at the Valley as Bowyer looks to piece together a side capable of suriving in the Championship.

Macauley Bonne, Tom Lockyer, Chuks Aneke, Ben Purrington, Deji Oshilaja, Ben Amos and Nathan Harness have all made the trip to the club, although Curbishley is clearly doubtful it will be enough.

But despite these concerns, it is a season that he is still thoroughly looking forward to, not least for when two of his former stars meet in the dug-out.

Fulham manager Scott Parker made over 100 appearances for Charlton after graduating through the Addicks academy, with Curbishley managing him throughout his time at the Valley.

With Bowyer following the same route years earlier, it is a clash that Curbishley cannot wait to see play out.

"It's interesting because I can't wait to see Charlton play Fulham because both my ex-players, who I didn't think would be managers, Lee Bowyer and Scott Parker, are both managers," he said.

"I think the players like him (Scott Parker). He was always planning to do this, he took his badges before he retired, went off to Spurs in the academy then returned to Fulham. There must have been a plan that he would take over at some time.

"When Ranieri took over at Chelsea, he signed Scott from Charlton so he knew him and kept him in the fold at Fulham.

"It was the right place at the right time as Scotty was sitting there, ready to take over. There was a big vote of confidence from the players when he took over but it will be difficult for the three relegated teams."

This weekend sees Lee Bowyer's Charlton kick-off their campaign away to Blackburn Rovers whilst Fulham travel to Barnsley.

'Our downfall could be our defence' – Fulham fan pundit offers 2019/20 season preview

This article is part of Football League World's 'Regular Punter' series, where we gather original opinions from select, passionate fans of the clubs concerned on matters surrounding their team and share them with a wider audience...

After their emphatic relegation from the Premier League last season, promotion will be on the minds of everybody connected to Fulham this time around.

Scott Parker will be hoping to make a real statement in his first season in management by guiding the South-West Londoners straight back to the top-flight.

This summer has seen him bring in just two new faces in the form of Anthony Knockaert and Ivan Cavaleiro, although tying Aleksandar Mitrovic down to a new deal also felt like a new signing.

But what can we expect from them this season?

Well, we caught up with Football League World's Fulham fan pundit David Gadd to get the lowdown...

How would you rate your summer transfer business?

"Our transfer window has been okay.

"We've signed two top-quality attackers who I think will be absolutely devastating going forward throughout the season.

"However I do think there's a few more players we need to build a squad capable of challenging. Yes, we have a good team but if we get a few injuries then we could become a little unstuck."

Who do you think will be your key man this season?

"I think it's pretty obvious who our key men are going to be in Mitrovic, Cairney, Knockaert and Cavaleiro.

"But then obviously we will have players like [Stefan] Johansen in the midfield and Alfie Mawson playing at centre back.

"Then again someone like Joe Bryan could, and I think will, be a massive player for us this season."

And what do you think could lead to a Fulham downfall?

"I think our downfall could be our defence.

"Last year in the Premier League we were shocking defensively and that's what sent us down. Since then we haven't strengthened the defence at all which is worrying considering there's not long left until the window shuts.

"There's no problem with us going forward but at the back it's a big worry for myself and all other Fulham fans."

Finally, what would be a successful season for Parker's side?

"I think we have to be aiming for automatic promotion. I don't think I could deal with play-offs again.

"Our squad is good enough, so that should be everyone's aim. I'm pretty confident we can do it as long as we sort the defence out and have a good start!"

Two recruits included: The Fulham XI we expect Parker to field against Barnsley this weekend

Fulham will begin life back in the Championship against newly-promoted Barnsley at Oakwell on Saturday afternoon.

The Whites will be hoping to challenge for automatic promotion this season following their relegation from the Premier League last term.

Scott Parker has seen several players depart the club this summer but has also bolstered his attacking options by bringing in Ivan Cavaleiro on loan from Wolves and Anthony Knockaert on loan from Brighton.

Both players are likely to feature at the weekend as the Whites look to get off to a winning start on their return to the second tier.

Here is how Fulham could line up against Barnsley this weekend.

Marcus Bettinelli has played in goal for most of Fulham's pre-season games, so he is likely to keep is place between the sticks for their season opener at Oakwell.

Ryan Sessegnon is currently injured and hasn't played at all for Fulham during pre-season, so expect Joe Bryan to start at left-back.

Alfie Mawson was subsisted late on against West Ham with an injury but has recovered and is likely to start alongside Denis Odoi at centre-back, with Cyrus Christie at right-back.

Stefan Johansen picked up a knock against West Ham at the weekend, but Parker has confirmed that he came through the week okay, so he will probably start alongside Kevin McDonald in midfield.

Tom Cairney has been an influential player for Fulham over the past few seasons and he is pretty much guaranteed to start, probably in a slightly more advanced role to allow him to get forward and support the front three.

Fulham have got arguably the best attack in the Championship and Cavaleiro is pretty much guaranteed to start on the left wing, with Knockaert on the right wing.

Aleksandar Mitrovic will start up front and will be expected to score the goals to fire Fulham to promotion this season, after scoring eleven goals in the Premier League last term.

Fulhamish Round Table: Championship 19/20 preview

With the Championship season tantalisingly close, what can we expect from the next 46 games? We've brought the Fulhamish writing team together to answer the key questions on the year ahead. Do you agree with our views? Let us know!

Which Championship team should Fulham fear the most?
Ben Jarman The usual contenders of West Bromwich Albion, Stoke and Cardiff will be dangerous, of course. However, this year feels like it could be Bristol City's year to finally reach the play offs. They have a talented manager in Lee Johnson, a stable squad and have bought particularly well in the transfer window. Also keep an eye on Luton Town who've bought well, and Brentford who have kept their big guns.

George Singer Any side which has Marco Bielsa managing it surely has to be feared. I don't subscribe to the theory that Leeds burned out last season, as in reality they only had one bad 45 minutes of football – enough for Derby to pip them to Wembley. Therefore, for me they have to be favourites for the title. Aside from Leeds, Brentford have been improving year on year, and I (unfortunately!) think this may be their year to get promoted!

Drew Heatley Everyone says Leeds, but for me (Clive), it's West Brom. A decent manager in Slaven Bilić and Premier League experience in their squad with the likes of Jake Livermore, Kieran Gibbs and Chris Brunt. The addition of Kenneth Zohore is also a shrewd one. I expect them to challenge.

Cam Ramsey The Championship is easily the planet's most competitive domestic division, but for me, the team Fulham have to fear the most is Slaven Bilic's West Bromwich Albion. The Baggies were unfortunate not to bounce back last term and now, with the proven Croatian tactician at the helm, they'll be a genuine threat. Though they're without the free-scoring Dwight Gayle, Kenneth Zohore will menace defences persistently, with Filip Krovinovic supplying ammunition.

Sammy James Brentford – they're looking very strong this season, and will be doing everything to try and secure promotion before they move into the new ground. I still believe our squad is stronger on paper, but with players like Benrahma, Maupay and Jansson – they're definitely going to be knocking on the door of the top 6.

Tim Clarke Cardiff. Warnock knows how to grind out results in the championship and I would be very surprised if they didn't challenge for automatic promotion. Beating them late last season at the Cottage probably cemented their relegation as well, so I imagine they would relish taking points from us.

Jack Collins Leeds are the obvious choice but I can't look past the noisy neighbours down the road in TW8. I assumed they'd lose Maupay and Benrahma but with seven days left till the window closes the buzz around the two of them has died down, leaving an exceptionally strong Championship squad that has, as usual, been bolstered by strong additions through the system they have in place.

West Brom also have a point to prove and Woodgate's Boro, I imagine, will be in and around the playoff spots; whilst Stoke have quietly kept a lot of a talented squad which, with a full pre-season, I imagine Nathan Jones will be able to do a whole lot more with. Cardiff are my shoe-ins for a top six spot, mind – when you build an elite Championship squad for the Premier League, you have one thing in mind.

Nik Macnee Cardiff. They were actually pretty unfortunate to get relegated and they've only lost Bruno Ecuele Manga from their major PL contributors. They've got THE manager to get you promoted to the Premier League in Neil Warnock and added two perfect players for his system in Aden Flint (have fun defending him at corners) and Will Vaulks and his long throw. They've got depth and a squad who have done it before – it's very hard for me not to see them as favourites for the title.

Which Championship teams do you think will face the drop?
Ben Jarman After escaping by the skin of their teeth last year, it would be easy to ear-mark Millwall for the drop, but ultimately they will have too much quality. Birmingham on the other hand seem to be reeling from a turbulent summer, losing Garry Monk and still feeling the effects of an ill-fated spell under Redknapp. It could be them.

George Singer Despite being Bookie's favourites for the drop, I actually see Millwall and Barnsley having a good year. In particular, the Lion's underlying numbers suggested they were a top-7 side, so I'm expecting them to bounce up the table. QPR have lost some key men, and even with Warburton at the helm I expect them to really struggle. Wigan and Charlton are probably the 2 other for me.

Drew Heatley I think Reading have been treading water for too long – they'll go. And I expect Birmingham and Charlton to join them. Partly because of the turmoil at those clubs, and partly because they're just not strong enough.

Cam Ramsey Frankly, the three teams that will plummet to League One will be Luton Town, Charlton Athletic and Millwall. Out of the trio, I hope the Addicks prove me wrong as it's a quality day out at The Valley, but they've shaky tendencies. As for Luton and Millwall, I just don't care much for them, but I'm sure they're both fully geared up for the season ahead.

Sammy James Charlton are obviously big contenders for the drop given their calamitous state. I think Luton will also struggle to adapt to the Championship after back-to-back promotions. There's always one surprise team, and I'm going to go for Sheffield Wednesday. Bruce is a big loss, and they seem to have been badly managed for a few consecutive years now.

Jack Collins Everyone keeps banging on here about QPR but I think the Hoops have actually signed really well under Warburton and I'd tip them for a top half finish. He's a good manager and I'm reasonably confident they'll be fine. I worry for Birmingham, and for Barnsley, who I think will be a tough test until people work them out properly. Unfortunate that we've got them so early then!

Nik Macnee Charlton, Reading and Swansea. With Charlton, there's just no investment there as a result of the ownership saga still ongoing and they've lost good players in Bauer and Aribo. Hard to see them staying up. Reading as well look likely for me – who signs Charlie Adam (56% pass success rate as a CENTRE MID) now? There's also seemingly financial constraints there and they've defied the data for three seasons now – this will finally be their end I think. Finally, Swansea look doomed to me. As of this article, Oli McBurnie is leaving them to go to Sheffield United and he played a massive role scoring goals against other Championship sides last year. Couple this with the likes of Fer, Narsingh, Olsson all leaving on frees in addition to minimal recruitment and Swansea have a young roster with an unproven coach in Steve Cooper giving it all to keep them up. Can't quite see it I'm afraid.

Who will be the Fulham Player of the Season?
Ben Jarman Tom Cairney looks to be showing flickers of his wonderful best, and Parker is a manager that believes in his ability. It's difficult to see past Mitrovic, Cavaliero and Knockaert, but everything good about Fulham has come through the Captain and his ability to create something out of nothing.

George Singer I had Zambo earmarked as my answer to this one, so seeing him head off to Villareal is a real kicker. For me, if Alfie Mawson can stay fit, I can see him being a real leader from the back & guiding us to a strong finish.

Drew Heatley Our man of the match awards tend to go to goal scorers, but our POTS awards seem to be more measured. If Knockaert has the impact we all expect him to, he'll be up there, but providing he can stay fit and finally establish himself at the club, Alfie Mawson could be a dark horse for the award – and that'd surely mean promotion.

Cam Ramsey Fulham's Player of the Season, without question, will be Aleksandar Mitrovic. Mitro' will wreak havoc upon subservient back fours, and now that the Serb's settled in SW6 for the foreseeable future, every ounce of his grit, focus and determination will be invested into the Whites' push for promotion. We witnessed what he's capable of in this environment during the second-half of the 2017-18 campaign, but with a full season under his belt, he could smash 30+ goals effortlessly.

Sammy James I reckon Cavaleiro. Whilst Mitro might be the obvious answer, I just have a feeling that Ivan is going to be the man to actually grab games by the scruff of the neck and secure us valuable points. Seems really likable too.

Tim Clarke Denis Odoi. Mawson will drink some hot soup and suffer third degree burns to his entire body, and Super Denis will command the Fulham backline.

Jack Collins Big up Joe Bryan. Have strong hopes that our left back is going to be the man that reunites the fanbase and the club, and that his threat from deep on the left is going to be a key part of our attacking arsenal in the season to come.

Nik Macnee Aleksandar Mitrovic. He's a lock for 20+ goals, barring injury and will just dominate opposing centre backs with his physicality. This is a lay-up for him.

Where in the table will Fulham finish?
Ben Jarman The squad feels like it could challenge for automatic promotion from day one, but nothing is ever easy in this league. Fulham will have ups and downs on the pitch, and off it, this year but I am confident that we can make the play offs at the very least.

George Singer Answering this question before the transfer window closing is challenging – as the squad may look substantially different post deadline day. However, at the time of writing, I think this is a squad that will finish somewhere within the play-off spots, but isn't strong enough for top-2.

Drew Heatley My head says play-offs, but my heart says second. We know this league, we've got a great squad on paper loaded with attacking talent. It's the defence I'm concerned about; we can't win every game 4-3. Whether my head or heart wins depends a lot on our dealings before the window shuts.

Cam Ramsey Our defensive department still worries me deeply, but given that our offensive armoury is by far the most razor-sharp in the Championship, I'd like to think we're in with a tangible shot of gaining automatic promotion. Leeds United will contend, as will West Brom, Bristol City, Swansea City and Cardiff City and Stoke City, but if all falls into place for Scott Parker, there's no reason why we can't walk this league. Sensible head on, though, I'm thinking we'll finish second, but you just never know.

Sammy James 1st. I hastily (and slightly foolishly) predicted Fulham to be champions on the latest podcast, so I'm gonna stick to my guns. I'm probably over-confident, but if there's any time of the season that's ok, it's August. UTF

Tim Clarke 4th – we haven't started a season well in a long time, and I feel like the weight of expectation may hinder us. Hopefully Wembley is kind to us again (forgetting Spurs at "home" last season).

Jack Collins Playoff spots for me right now. Given the window hasn't closed there is plenty of room for this to change but I think we need one or two key additions before I'd be confident that this is a squad capable of going all the way to automatic promotion, or dare we dream, winning the league!

Nik Macnee Outside of the front 4, there's too many question marks surrounding this team. Is Scott Parker any good as a manager? What will the defence look like come August 9th? Can Alfie Mawson stay fit for the whole season? Will the likes of Ream and McDonald regress with age? There's just such a wide scope for this team – they could absolutely blow most teams out of the water and stomp to the title or seriously struggle and be 17th by Christmas. I'm going to say 6th for now though. This team is just too talented in attack to not make the playoffs but could be badly let down by a lack of recruitment in defence.

Tottenham confident of Ryan Sessegnon transfer despite Scott Parker's update on Fulham ace
SCOTT PARKER has insisted that Ryan Sessegnon will be in the right frame of mind to start the Championship season with Fulham, should his dream £25million move to Tottenham break down.

Tottenham have just a week left of the transfer window in which to land the Fulham starlet who they have been chasing all summer – but the north London club would prefer to complete the sale of Danny Rose first.

Arsenal have been linked with a move for the England defender, as have Paris Saint-Germain, Juventus and Atletico Madrid – but Rose is insistent he will only move if the deal is right for him, and he could now stay.

Sessegnon is still weeks away from full fitness after picking up a hamstring injury, and has made it clear to Fulham that he wants the move. The deal is expected to go through in the next week – but time is running out for the Cottagers to sign a replacement.

Fulham have been offered a couple of fringe Spurs players in midfielder Josh Onomah and winger Georges-Kevin Nkoudou, as part of the deal.

Parker, whose team begin their attempt to bounce back from the Championship straight away at Barnsley on Saturday (3pm), said: "At this present moment, I expect Ryan still to be here when the window shuts.

"Obviously I have read the speculation. Will it affect him? That would be up to Ryan.

"It is not as if the phone has been ringing off the hook, a bid every other day for him and Fulham are turning it down, for him to have the hump.

"I had this too as a young player. But if there is one good thing about the transfer window it is that come 5 o'clock next week when the door shuts, he can't go anywhere.

"As a player you either get your head down, or it affects you. Ryan is not that boy anyway.

"I am just looking at getting him as fit as we can and let's see what he can do. I have spoken to him.

"The conversations have been mainly around his fitness. I don't know how long it will be until he is ready."

Former Blackpool, Crystal Palace and Queens Park Rangers manager Ian Holloway is meanwhile worried about Mauricio Pochettino's future at the club.

The Argentine coach has spoken at length about the club's recruitment strategy of late and suggested he has minimal control over transfers.

Tottenham transfer news: Ryan Sessegnon 'expected' to stay at Fulham
Cottagers boss Scott Parker confident he can keep hold of £20m winger despite interest from Premier League's big names

Scott Parker has not given up hope of keeping Ryan Sessegnon at Fulham this season.

The left-back is a £20m target for Tottenham – but boss Parker insists the relegated Cottagers have yet to receive a firm bid for the teenager.

With next Thursday's transfer deadline looming, the manager is hoping that situation remains unchanged.

'I expect him to stay'

And Parker insists the 19-year-old – who is recovering from a hamstring injury that has ruled him out of tomorrow's trip to Barnsley – would have no grounds to feel frustrated with Fulham if he misses out on a swift Premier League return.

The Cottagers boss said: "At this present moment I expect him still to be here.

"Obviously there has been a lot of talk, but I haven't had one conversation with ownership here to say otherwise, in the sense of another team have approached us.

"And there is now a week to go. So for me, I'm looking at him and thinking let's get him as fit and hopefully he can help us this year."

'Phone not been off the hook'

Asked whether the youngster would be in the right frame of mind if he remained at Craven Cottage, Parker added: "That would be up to Ryan.

"It's not as though the phone has been off the hook and there has been a bid every other day for Ryan Sessegnon and the club are turning it down for him to have the hump.

"The one good thing about a transfer window is that when 5 o'clock comes next week and the door shuts, you can't go anywhere.

"As a player you either get your head down or you don't and it affects you as you go on. But Ryan's not that boy anyway, I don't see that as an issue in that sense.

"And plus, at this moment in time, there is nothing to suggest otherwise."

Ryan Sessegnon left in limbo as Fulham expect Tottenham transfer not to happen

Tottenham have been tipped to sign Fulham whizkid Ryan Sessegnon, but have failed to seal a deal this summer

Ryan Sessegnon faces starting the season in the Championship, with Fulham's teenage star still stuck in limbo.

Sessegnon, 19, is wanted by Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino in a £25million deal.

The England Under-21 international is not fit to kick off the Cottagers' campaign when it gets underway this weekend, having been struggling with a hamstring injury.

And he had wanted to complete his switch back to the Premier League by now.

However, Spurs are taking a deal down to the last minute, with club chiefs determined to sell Danny Rose first.

But his exit is now far from certain.

England international Rose has been linked with moves abroad - notably to Paris Saint Germain and Atletico Madrid - but will only leave White Hart Lane if a deal is right for him.

Having been left out of Spurs' squad early in pre-season, Rose was back in action for the Audi Cup in Munich last week.

Now, a situation is fast developing where he could stay put - and scupper Sessegnon's move.

Fulham boss Scott Parker, whose team begin the 2019-20 season at Barnsley on Saturday, said: "At this present moment, I expect Ryan still to be here when the window shuts.

Possible transfer boost for Manchester United as star's £20m Tottenham move in doubt

Manchester United may well be on alert to news that Ryan Sessegnon's potential transfer to Tottenham seems to be in doubt.

The 19-year-old is widely regarded as a big talent after shining at Fulham, but he's surprisingly still with the Championship club as we edge ever closer to the end of the summer transfer window.

Not so long ago the Daily Star claimed Sessegnon looked set for a £20million move to Tottenham, having snubbed Manchester United due to his belief he'd get more playing time with Mauricio Pochettino's side.

However, the Daily Mirror now suggest the Sessegnon deal is being held up as Spurs struggle to offload Danny Rose first.ty

They quote Fulham manager Scott Parker as hinting he now thinks the exciting youngster could now be staying put at Craven Cottage, but this surely represents an opportunity for Man Utd to try again for the move if they still want him.

The teenager could be a fine signing to challenge Luke Shaw for his spot at left-back, while he's also capable of playing in a more attacking role.

Sessegnon also fits the type of player Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has gone for this summer as he's recruited young British talent in Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Daniel James.

Tottenham confident of Ryan Sessegnon deal despite Fulham remarks - but there's a catch

TOTTENHAM remain confident of signing Fulham teenager Ryan Sessegnon before the transfer deadline next week - but Mauricio Pochettino wants to sell Danny Rose first.

Tottenham have been chasing Sessegnon for most of the summer after previously being linked with him as far back as last summer.

The 19-year-old left-sided star is highly regarded and after being relegated with Fulham last season, has made it clear that he wants to leave Craven Cottage.

According to the Daily Express, Spurs are still confident of getting the £25m-rated defender but with just a week left of the transfer window, time is running out.

Another complication in any move is the fact that they want Rose off the books before pursuing Sessegnon.

The English left-back has been told he can explore options to leave the club and was left out of Spurs' Audi Cup tour earlier this week to do just that.

But with no signs as yet that Rose will leave, signing Sessegnon could be a no go.

Arsenal have been linked with a move for Rose, as have Paris Saint-Germain, Juventus and Atletico Madrid – but the player is insistent he will only move if the deal is right for him, and he could now stay.

Fulham have been offered a couple of fringe Spurs players as part of a deal for Sessegnon with midfielder Josh Onomah and winger Georges-Kevin Nkoudou the names coming up.

As things stand though, Cottagers boss Scott Parker says he expects the teenager to still be at the club when the window shuts.

Fulham start off their Championship campaign away at Barnsley on Saturday.

Sessegnon is still not fit after he picked up a hamstring injury and is weeks away from recovering.

"Obviously I have read the speculation. Will it affect him? That would be up to Ryan," said Parker.
