Title: How lucky was Reed on Friday against Wigan
Post by: The Swan on October 01, 2019, 06:18:16 PM
I think Reed was very lucky not to be sent off for the push on the Wigan player near the end of the first half.

I think he was trying to protect Bettinelli when he was pushed by the Wigan player.

At that point Scotty Parker should have taken Reed off and brought on Arter.
What do I know we went on to win the game.

The player I thought was outstanding was their number 3 Antonee Robinson. He created a lot of problems for our defence when he broke along the left side of the field.

2of their players should have been booked within the 1st 5 minutes but the referee was weak.

No 3 is on loan from Everton

I was sitting behind the goal
Reid pushes the Wigan was layer after he had elbowed Betts in the face and he was lying flat out( I thought he was out cold as it was a clear heavy smack which I heard from my seat)

Reed should have been sent off however the ref had been fairly lenient all night ( another may have booked 3 or 4 Wigan players and a couple of ours ). The fact that Betts was laid out made it more difficult for the ref.

If we get a referee that gives out Red Cards, we should bench Arter, Reed, Johasen and KMac; which leaves us with Cisse and o'Riley.

What's the basis of your claim? So far in their careers those four mentioned players have accumulated a total of 3 straight red cards over some 1200+ professional games (plus a few sending offs due to getting two yellows).

Don't care - the result says 2-0 and Reed was booked.

Morsy for Wigan was booked after 5 mins, committed 2 or 3 other fouls and should have been off, the centre back blatantly elbowed Betts and should have been off.

However they weren't so the fact that Reed pushed someone who should have been leaving the pitch anyway is immaterial.

Oh and as for Williamson, how he was still on the pitch only the referee knows.

A better question would be how dirty were Wigan or how bad was the ref.

The suggestion of Arter replacing Reed in order to avoid a possible red card has to be a classic case of out of the frying pan into the fire.
I really do admire Arter's attitude but always feel he is a red card waiting to happen.
