Title: Stansfield and Neeskens
Post by: rogerpbackinMidEastUS on February 18, 2020, 12:26:53 PM
What's happened to these 2?
When Stansfield came on a few weeks ago he lit the place up and Neeskens always does.

I think Stansfield's appearances were a combination of injuries and a nod to his performances in the academy, but that he is still behind in the pecking order.

With Neeskens I haven't a clue. He usually always makes something happen when he comes on and I've always been a fan. Maybe he has had a niggling injury that keeps repeating?

Stansfield is progressing but he is not ready yet. Neeskens does deserve more play.

Big leap from U18s to first team, so happy that Stanfield's development is via U23 appearances. Neeskens is a bit of a mystery as he is lively and committed in his rare appearances....constant niggling injuries? He's certainly unlucky in front of goal, last minute headers (after coming on in the last 5 minutes in each game) against Millwall and Bristol City clattering the bar, stone wall penalties not given (Bristol City again), and back of the net "should be goals" not given due to incompetent officials who can't see the ball crossing the line (by yards) (Leeds a couple of years ago).

Stansfield is not dominating u23 like Onamah did yet, so i'd choose Onamah ahead of Stanfield on the wing and a Onamah is at best only our sixth best winger anyway. As for centre forward, it seems Stanfield is behind Mitro, which surely doesn't need an explaination.

As for putting a Stansfield on the bench as a specialist centre forward instead of Kamara, that doesn't seem a wise move as Stansfield won't be playing in First XI and if he's on the bench he won't be playing u23. I recommend letting Stanfield see out the season in u23s, learning to score goals game after game.

What makes you say this? Onomah has only made 2 appearances for the u23s this season, while Stansfield has produced a goal from his 2 u23 appearances.
