Title: Approach to play off.
Post by: jarv on July 08, 2020, 08:15:38 PM
When over the line to guarantee play off....rotate and give a break to key players. Dont want an injury to Mitro or Cairney etc.

The same Mitro and Cairney that didn't play yesterday. I'm not so sure Cairney should get back into the first 11.

Mitro has to start & provided he is not left isolated as is often the case he will score goals.
Cairney is a problem. When he plays our build up is so slow as everyone seems obliged to give him the ball. Yesterday our MF played with more freedom & were allowed to express themselves.

This is a big conundrum for Parker.

Cairney already is injured
&
Mitro needs to earn his place, based on his 2 previous performances he's done nothing to walk directly back into this team
A manager should pick his players based on form over how much their getting paid.

Some rotation to conserve energy may be sensible. The gap between the last game of the season and the first playoff game is only 4/5 days (which was also the case last time for us), but then the gap between the 2nd game and the potential final is also only 4 or 5 days (last time for us it was 12 days).

Thank you all. I dont get to see games, all comments welcome. I get match reports on here.  2 year ago, Cairney was great. what happened to him? I agree, team picked on merit, not reputation.

Not even sure at the moment which play off position is best for us to finish in, certainly don't want 6th position as that would probably mean 2 semi final legs against the in form Brentford. A third place finish could, at this moment, still mean a semi final against Derby with Chrissy Martin coming back to bite us and with Rooney grabbing headlines.

Lets wait and see how things look after the week end but agree we then need focus on the play offs and to ensure that we have options fit and ready where possible.

honestly, after last night, there is no way that Darby will finish above both Swansea and Cardiff. Will probably fail to finish ahead of Preston too.

Agreed. Derby have a difficult run in too, they are not getting play offs.

As for Chris Martin coming back to bite us, the only thing that chump is biting in the next few weeks is a Big Mac.

A difficult balance between resting players and continuity/momentum.
Not an easy decision to make.

Onomah deserves to start over cairney. Not same player he was 2 years ago. One footed player been found out

Keep TC out of the starting line up please. This midfiled has much more speed and power. Bring him in as a sub and increases his work rate.
