Neil Harris: There's no issue with Fulham boss Scott Parker
Watch Fulham vs Cardiff live on Sky Sports Football from 7pm on Thursday; Kick off 7.45pm

Neil Harris insists there is no issue with Fulham manager Scott Parker as the two prepare to face each other in Thursday's Championship play-off semi-final second leg.

Cardiff travel to Craven Cottage, live on Sky Sports Football, looking to overturn a 2-0 first-leg deficit.

Although the Cardiff manager appeared to take offence at Fulham's apparent over-celebration following their second goal deep in stoppage time, he claims it was nothing personal.

"I think a lot of players thought it was a big celebration but there's no big story in it," Harris exclusively told Sky Sports.

"After the game I pointed out the celebration but it wasn't against Scott (Parker) and was probably magnified because there was no fans in the stadium generating any noise or celebrations.

"Scott is a young man who has done a great job and I have a lot of admiration for what he has done and how he goes about his work.

"We get over that and it's now just about focusing on the second game and how we attack it and perform better and more consistently than we did in the first leg."

'Cardiff have a monumental task to overcome'

With no Championship side ever failing to reach the final after having a two-goal lead from the first leg, Harris readily admits it is a 'monumental task' for Cardiff to reach Wembley.

However, it is a challenge he is not prepared to shy away from, citing Cardiff's good record on the road and comeback from 3-0 down against Leeds earlier in the season to draw 3-3 as motivation for his side.

"It's a monumental task and certainly one of the biggest challenges I have faced as a manager but that's why I came to the club in the first place," Harris said.

"We're fully aware of the stats but we've got another 90 minutes to go and records are there to be broken.

"I have belief and faith in my group of players and we have the capability to go and score goals at any time against Fulham.

"We've also got firepower on the bench and scored more goals than any other team in the league from the bench."

Fulham to assess Aleksandar Mitrovic ahead of crucial Championship promotion play-off

Fulham striker Aleksandar Mitrovic will undergo a fitness test ahead of their Championship play-off semi-final second leg against Cardiff on Thursday night.

Mitrovic, the Championship golden boot winner with 26 goals in the regular season, missed the first leg in south Wales with a hamstring problem on Monday.

Scott Parker's side managed to get through without the Serbian's threat as Josh Onomah and Neeskens Kebano stepped up with two impressive solo goals to put one foot in next week's final.

Mitrovic returned to training at Motspur Park on Wednesday and will undergo further assessment ahead of the second leg at Craven Cottage.

"It was his first day back training," said Parker. "We had to make a decision the other day because of the dynamic of where we are in the season and the game is going to be played over two legs.

"There was a small issue and I had to make a call on Monday. He has trained today and we will see where we are, the same with [Ivan] Cavaleiro.

"We are constantly managing all situations because of the vast amount of football that has been played in a short space of time. Regarding Aleks, I wouldn't want to just say him, there are a group of players that you are managing and working for the best scenarios.

"I had to make a call which was best for the team and the football club and how we approach it. The game is over two legs, I am not going to discuss that. He has trained today. We are where we are and we will keep managing those situations."

Harry Arter was the only member of the squad not to train on Wednesday ahead of the deciding leg of the semi-final.

Neil Harris warns Fulham that Cardiff City can be a 'dangerous wounded animal' as he eyes monumental play-off turnaround

The Bluebirds must overturn a two-goal deficit if they are to remain in the tie at Craven Cottage on Thursday night

Neil Harris has warned Fulham that Cardiff City can be a "dangerous wounded animal" as his Bluebirds bid to overturn a two-goal deficit at Craven Cottage on Thursday night.

The Welsh club were downed by two second-half goals on Monday, leaving them with the monumental task of coming from two goals behind in the second leg of their play-off semi-final clash, a feat which has never been achieved in the Championship.

But Harris said he is heartened by the sheer number of games, even in his own relatively short tenure as manager, in which his side have had to pick themselves up off the canvas to produce dramatic comebacks.

Now, he is just asking for one more.

"The 3-3 at Leeds, we were 2-0 down at Charlton in my first game in charge and we came back for the draw, we were 2-0 down after 18 minutes against Brentford and drew - and should have won the game," Harris said of his side's resilience.

"We have trailed a lot of games and found a way to come back and either win or draw. That gives me a lot of faith in my group - and belief.

"And it should give my players the belief that they can do it. We are a team that finds a way of scoring a goal or winning a game. A lot of credit goes to the players for that. They have done it time and time again, not just this year but in years gone by as well.

"We can be a dangerous, wounded animal to come back and hurt teams. We have to use that passion, determination and resilience in abundance on Thursday night."

It will be no easy task, of course, but if City fans can take solace in one thing it is that their team has been pretty free-scoring of late.

While no player has been prolific - four players sit on eight goals as the club's leading scorer - they have found ways to hit the back of the net in key moments this season.

"We need to make sure we've got goalscorers from the start and we finish with goalscorers on the pitch as well," Harris added.

"We have got players that can produce big moments and they've done it time and time again in the last few months.

"It gives me the belief that when we get the chance, we will score. That's what disappointed me the other night, we have been clinical in key moments, especially post-January and we weren't in the first 20 minutes the other night.

"Goals win games and I know I've got players in my group who are capable of scoring in big matches."

Cardiff are huge underdogs going into this clash and the Bluebirds manager knows it.

However, given the circumstances, someone can make themselves a hero at Craven Cottage and if it was the Cottagers' turn on Monday night, then on Thursday Harris wants it to be his players who grab the headlines.

"I give Fulham some praise for the other night, but it's now up to our players to produce those moments," Harris said.

"We've done it, we've had match winners and we have had players who want to be heroes.

"The players want to achieve. It's not about 'well done' for what the group has achieved - we want more.

"It's another opportunity for us to prove ourselves and the players are prepared to do it."

Scott Parker coy on Aleksandar Mitrovic fitness ahead of playoff semi-final

Fulham boss Scott Parker was not prepared to give anything away regarding the fitness of star striker Aleksandar Mitrovic as his side try and book a Championship play-off final spot.

Mitrovic, who won the division's Golden Boot with 26 goals, did not play in the semi-final first leg against Cardiff due to a hamstring injury.

Parker said he took a "calculated risk" and it paid off as the Cottagers won 2-0 in south Wales and will look to complete the job at Craven Cottage on Thursday night.

The Serbian returned to training on Wednesday, along with Ivan Cavaleiro, but Parker remained tight-lipped over whether he plans to use his striker.

"It was his first day back training," Parker said. "We had to make a decision the other day because of the dynamic of where we are in the season and the game is going to be played over two legs.

"There was a small issue and I had to make a call on Monday. He has trained (on Wednesday) and we will see where we are, the same with Cavaleiro.

"We are constantly managing all situations because of the vast amount of football that has been played in a short space of time.

"Regarding Aleks, I wouldn't want to just say him, there are a group of players that you are managing and working for the best scenarios.

"I had to make a call which was best for the team and the football club and how we approach it. The game is over two legs, I am not going to discuss that. He has trained (on Wednesday). We are where we are and we will keep managing those situations."

Harry Arter was the only player not to train, meaning he will miss the game.

"All the players trained, albeit it was a light session because it has been a quick turnaround," Parker added.

"All the players trained other than Harry Arter and we will see where we are with those players who are nursing things and see how good they are in the morning to see if there are any setbacks."

The Cottagers are two good results away from a return to the Premier League, but the transfer rumour mill has already started, with reports linking Tottenham midfielder Oliver Skipp with a move to Fulham next season.

Parker had an easy out when asked about it, though, as he said his focus was on the task in hand.

"It is so far from my mind, my sole focus and real aim is on trying to get results and try and put us in the best position to win the matches in front of us," he said.

"I have not even entered the thought of transfers."

Neil Harris backs Cardiff City to create play-off history against Fulham

Neil Harris (facing camera) talks to his players during Cardiff's 2-0 first-leg play-off semi-final loss to Fulham

Neil Harris is backing his Cardiff City side to create history by overturning a 2-0 first-leg deficit against Fulham in their Championship play-off semi-final.

Having lost 2-0 at home on Monday, Cardiff travel to Craven Cottage on Thursday for the second leg.

In the play-offs' 33-year history, no second-tier team has reached the final having lost a first leg by two goals.

"We understand the challenge in front of us, but the barriers are there to be broken down," said Harris.

"Records are always there to be broken in all sports, not just football, and they continue to get broken.

"That's our task in front of us and we're not going to shy away from that task. We're not frightened. We look forward to the challenge."

Cardiff had started strongly in their first leg against Fulham but their early missed chances were to prove costly as the Cottagers took charge in the second half with goals from Josh Onomah and Neeskens Kebano.

Scott Parker's side were the pre-match favourites having finished the regular Championship season fourth in the table - eight points clear of Cardiff in fifth - and they justified that tag with an impressive display in south Wales.

However, Harris believes his team are capable of turning the tie around.

'We can be a dangerous, wounded animal'
The Bluebirds were 14th in the Championship when they appointed the former Millwall manager last November, and he helped instigate a late-season revival which took his side to the play-offs.

Harris pointed to some of Cardiff's most notable comebacks during his reign as reasons to believe they could overcome the odds to beat Fulham and reach Tuesday's final at Wembley.

"Yeah, 3-3 at Leeds [having trailed 3-0], 2-0 down at Charlton in my first game in charge, we came back for the draw, 2-0 down after 18 minutes against Brentford and drew - and should have won the game," Harris said.

"We have trailed in a lot of games and found a way to come back and either win or draw. That gives me a lot of faith in my group - and belief.

"And it should give my players the belief that they can do it.

"We are a team that finds a way of scoring a goal or winning a game. A lot of credit goes to the players for that.

"They have done it time and time again, not just this year but in years gone by as well.

"We can be a dangerous, wounded animal to come back and hurt teams. We have to use that passion, determination and resilience in abundance on Thursday night."

Man of the Match Result
(https://ffcw001.azureedge.net/-/media/motm/shutterstock_editorial_10721396aa.jpg?w=622&h=278)

Josh Onomah has absolutely crushed the latest Man of the Match vote after his efforts in Cardiff.

The midfielder has been in fine scoring form since football resumed, but he took his game to another level with the opener in our Play-Off battle with the Bluebirds.

Receiving the ball from Harrison Reed with his back to goal, Onomah rolled his marker Marlon Pack with ease, slalomed beyond Sean Morrison, cut across Curtis Nelson and slid his shot in at the near post.

It was the fluidity and grace with which he strolled through the Cardiff backline that just made the goal so beautiful.

"When that hit the back of the net I was just over the moon," Onomah told FFCtv after the game. "It was a great moment for me, a proud moment for my family.

"I knew once I was in the box I just had to keep my composure, relax and stay calm. I did that, and got the rewards."

Onomah offered so much more than just his goal threat, though, as his statistics from the game suggest: five successful dribbles, three interceptions, three key passes, possession won eight times, and a pass success rate of 86 per cent.

Despite the brilliant team performance, the Man of the Match vote was an open and shut case, with Onomah claiming two-thirds (66.7 per cent) of the votes. Michael Hector was a rock at the back and came second with 13.7 per cent, just ahead of Neeskens Kebano who took 8.8 per cent.

Scott Parker could welcome some important players back to the fold for Thursday's Second Leg tie with Cardiff City.

Ivan Cavaleiro limped out of the West Bromwich Albion draw a fortnight ago, while Aleksandar Mitrović missed the First Leg victory on Monday.

But Parker revealed some positive news in his pre-match press conference on Wednesday afternoon, telling reporters: "Injury wise, we're in a good place.

"All players trained today, albeit a light session. We didn't really do much because obviously it's been a quick turnaround.

"All players trained other than one, which was Harry Arter, and we'll see where we are tomorrow with the players who were nursing things, and see how good they are come the morning, and if there's no setbacks then we're in a good place.

"We had to make a decision [on Mitrović] the other day because of the dynamics of where we are in the season now, and with the tie played over two legs.

"He was nursing a bit of a small issue which I had to make a call on. He's trained today so we'll see where we are tomorrow, same with Cavaleiro.

"Cavaleiro trained today with the team and the squad, so we'll make a decision tomorrow on where we are."

Harris pre-Fulham | We'll come out fighting

Neil Harris held a virtual press conference ahead of Thursday evening's Play-Off Semi-Final second leg against Fulham.

The City boss began by praising his players' training ground response to Monday's disappointing result.

"Training was brilliant this morning," he said. "We understand the monumental task ahead of us but with our backs to the wall, we'll come out fighting.

"The atmosphere in the group is fantastic. We really look forward to the challenge of trying to overturn the deficit tomorrow."

Harris pointed to the Bluebirds' superb away record as he primed his troops for Thursday's trip to Craven Cottage.

"I spoke to the players this morning with some facts and some passion," he added.

"The fact is that we've won six out of our last eight away games. No team in the Championship has picked up more away points than us since I took over.

"That's just to remind the players of the ability that we've got on our travels, coupled with the quality in our changing room and desire.

"Again, we were 3-0 down at Leeds towards the end of the game and came back, so we've got the ability to do it.

"It's not going to be easy, we know that and are fully aware, but we're up for the challenge."

The unseen work of Sol Bamba, the frustrated Cardiff City star who wants nothing more than to see his Bluebirds promoted again

The Bluebirds fan favourite has not had as much game time as he would have liked but has played an invaluable role behind the scenes

While Sol Bamba's impact on the pitch has been scarcely seen this year, Cardiff City fans should not underestimate his ever burning desire to push this club back to where it belongs.

The last 16 months have been an arduous, painstaking road back to full recovery, which has resulted in him largely watching on from the sidelines as Sean Morrison and Curtis Nelson struck up an excellent partnership at the heart of defence.

In his four years at the club he has seen it all, from consolidating the Bluebirds' Championship status in his first season to reaching the big time the next - only to come crashing back down to the second tier.

He has experienced the immense highs of promotion and the crushing pain of an awful ACL injury last March, but his love for the club endures and shines through brightly as he speaks on the eve of Cardiff City's play-off semi-final second leg against Fulham.

Neil Harris' side have a mountain to climb, of that there is no doubt, having to overturn a two-goal deficit at Craven Cottage on Thursday night.

Bamba concedes the task at hand will be difficult, but the Bluebirds are still only 180 minutes from a dramatic return to the top tier and that, the Ivorian believes, is exactly where this club belongs.

"It would be huge, every player and fan will tell you their club deserves to be there, but I've been to different countries, different clubs all around in Europe and England, and I am telling you this club should be in the Premier League," a bullish Bamba said.

"It's an unbelievable city, a capital city, great fanbase, wonderful facilities, the stadium is good, everything is in place to be in the Premier League regularly.

"It would mean a lot to us, especially this season to bounce straight back up which is never easy, so that would be a big achievement for us and the club.

"We have to be honest it's a work in progress. A new manager came in, not easy for him, a lot of players already here from anprevious regime, so we have to give credit to him and give him time and he's proved how good he's been so far.

"Hopefully he will have time to build and take us back to the Premier League."

That is, of course, if he doesn't seal that feat next Tuesday.

It is as yet unknown whether Bamba will have a hand on the pitch against Fulham, but if recent trends are anything to go by it is likely he will have to cheer his comrades on from the bench at Craven Cottage.

Since lockdown he has had just two minutes of football, both off the bench against Bristol City and Middlesbrough, and he has amassed just 489 minutes all term, largely in the FA Cup.

He is still adored by Bluebirds fans in this corner of the world, some of whom want to see him play more regularly.

And Bamba, now 35, is also still hungry for more game time, with the fire still burning white hot within him.

"If I said I was happy with my situation then I'd be lying," Bamba said.

"I'm all about the team and the club, no one is bigger than the club. It's football, competition for places, and all I can do is train good and be ready when he needs me to come in.

"At my age, being in the position I am in and being a senior pro, I need to be there and the lads will tell you themselves what I'm doing behind the scenes, it's my job, I just have to do it.

"The gaffer has been good as gold in letting me get on with it. I make sure the lads are up for it in training, make sure everyone is coming in on time, respecting the rules.

"But I am a football player still a lot to give but after coming back from long-term injury, the lads been unbelievable at the back and I have to be patient and wait for my chance."

While the frustration is clear, Harris will doubtless take that as a positive sign moving forward. If Bamba was content with his bit-part role then that would likely be more concerning.

But, ever the clubman, it is the defender's unseen work which has been so important behind the scenes.

Bamba appears to act as the middle man between the players and the staff.

"It's not just me, the dressing room is full of leaders," he added. "But, me being the oldest unfortunately, I have to make sure everyone is on board.

"But the manager lets me get on with it. I sort stuff out with Sean Morrison without even going to see the gaffer, because he knows he can trust us.

"I've got the respect from the lads as well.

"On the pitch, I can't keep my mouth shut, I want to make sure everyone is organised. But off the pitch I am not the loudest, but when I eventually speak people listen to it - because I'm not always the loudest.

"I just make sure they are at it at training, when I come to train, I want to get something out of it. If not, what's the point? It's small things, I make sure everyone is on time. If someone is down on confidence I recognise it and help them regain their confidence to get back out there."

It is clear Bamba would like nothing more than to have played a key part, even if it wasn't strictly on the pitch, in any Bluebirds promotion.

It would be extra special, too, if he did it for the late Peter Whittingham, who tragically passed away back in March.

"That one is a tough one for me, because I was very, very close to him," Bamba said.

"I am sure he will be up there looking at us and will be proud. If we can do it for him, it would be magnificent."

Harris has used Bamba in the dying minutes of games to shore up the defence or help to see a game out with experience.

But, if City are chasing the game late on at Craven Cottage, it is not beyond the realms of possibility that Bamba could be sent on as an attacking option as the visitors look to bombard the box.

So, has he been dreaming of being the man to score that 90th-minute winner?

"You've known me over the years, it's not about me," he said. "It's all about the team and going through.

"If it's me, then it's great, if it's someone else, it will be equally great.

"I'm not known for scoring goals, you know that!"

Well, there's no better time to start scoring them, that's for sure.

An ode to Steed Malbranque, a player so wonderful even Tony Blair loved him

Steed Malbranque is remembered fondly by Fulham, Tottenham and Sunderland fans – and, surely even more importantly, by Tony Blair.

It's 2005. Tony Blair has been invited, for reasons that aren't immediately obvious, onto BBC's Football Focus programme to give his views on the beautiful game.

The nation is unsure whether to take his opinion on anything – particularly something as important as football – seriously. However, to give the former Prime Minister his dues, on this occasion he may be onto something.

Sporting an unnecessarily open-necked shirt and asked to name the Premier League players who had caught his eye, he gave three responses: Teddy Sheringham, Arjan de Zeeuw, and Steed Malbranque.

The first, fair enough. The second is a story for another day.

Blair was a man who knew his football. Remember his headers with Kevin Keegan? We know that his love of Newcastle was entirely genuine and that he wouldn't have pretended to support them just because they were the nearest major club to his constituency.

This was an era when the Premier League was graced with Thierry Henry and Ruud van Nistelrooy. Paul Scholes was at his peak. Few had the foresight to invest their hopes in a midfielder who would go on to provide more assists than the Manchester United legend.

Malbranque made his name at Fulham as a record signing, arriving as a highly-rated France Under-21 international costing £4.5million. By 2001, as a 20-year-old, he had already made 50 appearances for Lyon.

At Craven Cottage, he quickly earned a reputation as a phenomenally hard-working player, linking up with the likes of Luis Boa Morte and Brian McBride. Those were the days, weren't they?

A move to Tottenham Hotspur followed, where his tackling ability became more apparent than ever. In line with the step up he had made, he resolved to work even harder.

Just as he had in west London, he would achieve cult hero status at Spurs.

"Steeeed," White Hart Lane would cry whenever he came on or off the field, and all the more vociferously on the handful of times he scored for the club. Maybe it was because he kept them in such suspense before making his debut, having had to wait 10 weeks for his first appearance due to injury.

Of course, he is one of the last Tottenham players to win a trophy, playing his part in their Carling Cup triumph in 2008.

In the semi-final thrashing of Arsenal, he notched the fifth goal in the dying seconds. It was no more than the icing on the cake, a tap-in, but it was absolutely glorious.

At the other end, and unfortunately just as memorable, came his comedic own goal against Sevilla in the UEFA Cup. It was a night when the La Liga outfit – incidentally, managed by a certain Juande Ramos – were almost certain to go through, though Spurs gave themselves hope as they came from two goals down, only to lose 4-3 on aggregate.

Christian Poulsen leapt up with the header. Malbranque's response was to flap at it, legs flailing, and before he knew it, the ball was in the back of the net. Martin Jol decided he would never be put on the near post at corners again.

It had taken a little while for the fans to warm to their new £2million signing. Perhaps on account of his injuries, his first campaign was underwhelming and it took time for the Belgian-born star to become instrumental.

Never the bridegroom but always in the wedding party, his display in the classic 6-4 win over Reading was overshadowed by Dimitar Berbatov's four goals.

The 2007-08 season started in traumatic fashion with Jol's underhand sacking in October, yet for Malbranque himself, the campaign brought progress.

Admittedly, he wasn't cut from the same cloth as the midfielders Mauricio Pochettino would entertain, but this was a very different time. Expectations are a little higher than they were then, Malbranque captured the hearts of the Spurs faithful by sheer exertion.

Onto Sunderland, he followed in the footsteps of two other ex-Lilywhites in Teemu Tainio and Pascal Chimbonda.

The Black Cats were looking increasingly like a Tottenham tribute act, featuring old boys Andy Reid, Darren Bent, and Frazier Campbell, as well as loanee Alan Hutton.

And Ricky Sbragia managed to exploit Malbranque's versatility, using him both on the left and right and to great effect.

With the end of his time at the Stadium of Light came the end of English football's love affair with Steed Malbranque.

Upon quitting Lyon, he had made some fairly disparaging comments not about the club itself but about the quality of Ligue 1, and chose to spend his best years across the water in England.

It was only in the twilight of his career that he headed back to Lyon, via Saint-Etienne, before ending with a brief stint in Caen.

French fans may have forgotten all about him by that time, as he never ventured into the senior international team.

The peak of his career coincided with Les Bleus finishing the 2006 World Cup as runners-up, with Franck Ribery announcing himself on the global stage. It would have taken something truly spectacular to make it into that XI.

While it lasted, the pace and determination he showed at Fulham, and subsequently at Tottenham, was something to behold. So, here's to you, Mr Blair, for your incredible foresight.

Harris: We'll come out fighting

Cardiff boss Neil Harris expects his team to come out fighting in the second leg of their Championship play-off semi-final at Fulham tonight (Live Sky Sports 7.45).

The Bluebirds' hopes of returning to the Premier League suffered a major blow as they were beaten 2-0 in the first leg at the Cardiff City Stadium on Monday.

After an evenly contested first half, a Josh Onomah strike and injury-time Neeskens Kebano free-kick put the Cottagers firmly on course for the Wembley final, but Harris insists the tie is far from over.

"We understand the monumental task in front of us but, with backs to the wall, we'll come out fighting," said Harris ahead of the trip to Craven Cottage.

"The atmosphere in the group is brilliant and we are really looking forward to the challenge of trying to overturn the deficit.

"We've been written off, we're massively the underdog now. We're being questioned in some departments. We want to respond and we will respond."

Harris succeeded Neil Warnock in November and steered the side to fifth in the table, eight points behind fourth-placed Fulham.

He takes confidence from his team's away record in the second half of the campaign and wants to invoke the spirit that saw them recover from a 3-0 deficit to draw at champions Leeds in December.

He said: "Obviously I had to pick the boys up - I had to pick myself up first.

"I spoke to the players with some facts, some passion - the fact we've won six out of our last eight away games. No team in the Championship has picked up more away points than us since I took over.

"(These are) important facts - just to remind the players of the ability that we have got on our travels, coupled with the quality we have got in the changing room and the desire we have got.

"We were 3-0 down at Leeds and came back. We won at Ashton Gate, we won at Preston, won at (Nottingham) Forest. We've been to Middlesbrough in a challenging environment (and won).

"When our backs have been against the wall we have stood up to the challenge and we have got to do it one last time."

GAME ON play-off semi-final 2nd leg.
So we now know that Brentford have made it through to the play-off final.
Going into the game with a 2-0 aggregate lead surely make us favourites to face Brentford in the final? apparently no team has ever overcome a 2 goal deficit in the 2nd leg, sounds far too Fulhamish to me.
There's good news with both Mitro' and Cavaleiro joining in training, decisions on if they're in the match day squad will be made later today. If we play like we did in the first leg then it shouldn't really matter if one or both of them are rested with a view to keeping them fully fit for a potential appearance in the final?
Another good omen is Neil Harris' managerial record against us...

won   0
drawn   0
lost   6
goals scored   1
goals conceded   15

...so on paper we've got this in the bag, however being Fulham...

'I can't make a case for Cardiff' – Fulham obstacle awaits Bluebirds: Who reaches Wembley? The verdict

This article is part of Football League World's 'The Verdict' series, which provides personal opinions from the FLW writers regarding the latest breaking news, teams, players, managers, potential signings and more...

Fulham host Cardiff City at Craven Cottage tonight in the second-leg of the pair's play-off semi-final.

Scott Parker's side hold a two-goal advantage heading into the second-leg, with goals from Josh Onomah and Neeskens Kebano securing an impressive win in Wales on Monday evening.

So, heading into tonight, Neil Harris is looking to oversee quite the turnaround in West London.

Our writers discuss whether it can be done...

George Harbey

It's a tough one – I can see Fulham progressing, but only just.

Cardiff were unlucky in the first leg, and two bits of individual magic from Josh Onomah and Neeskens Kebano leaves them with a massive mountain to climb tonight, but the Bluebirds will thrive on being the underdogs.

Neil Harris is used to being the underdog after his time at Millwall, and there's no doubt that he will get the best out of his players and give them a real injection of passion heading into kick-off.

Fulham looked solid in the first leg on the whole, but it's important that they do not sit back and let Cardiff come onto them, as they possess a huge threat when attacking the area.

I can see Fulham going through, but an early goal would prove to be massive for either side.

Chris Thorpe

I think it is Fulham's to lose in all honesty, with the lead they hold from the first leg being crucial as we head into tonight's game.

As per usual the first goal in tonight's game will be crucial to determining who wins the tie – with Cardiff sure to go at Fulham straight from the off in order to get back into contention.

Set pieces will likely prove to be the Bluebirds' best route to goal, with Fulham likely to dominate possession of the ball for long periods as they did in the first leg.

However I believe Fulham have far too much quality and experience in this sort of situation to give away such a commanding lead at this stage of the tie, so therefore I see Parker's side progressing tonight.

Ned Holmes

I can't see Cardiff coming back into this one if I'm honest.

They've been one of the form teams in the run-in but I just don't think they've got it in them to turn this one around against Fulham at Craven Cottage.

Scott Parker's side dominate possession and control games really well – that has been their downfall at times this term but with a two-goal lead they should be in full control from the get go.

Add to that the fact they've got the players to do some damage on the break and I can't really see how the Bluebirds get back into this.

Jacob Potter

This has a Fulham win written all over it.

The Cottagers were brilliant in the first-leg, and they fully deserved their two-goal lead against a Cardiff side that were far from their best.

There is no doubting that the Bluebirds can only improve from that woeful performance, but I still think Fulham will come out on top.

With Cardiff having to throw more men forward in search of a goal early on, that will play into Fulham's hands on the counter-attack.

The likes of Ivan Cavaleiro and Anthony Knockaert could have an absolute field day here, as Cardiff look to get back into the tie.

Fulham to win 2-1 on the night and book their spot in the play-off final against Brentford, in what would be a mouth-watering clash at Wembley.

George Dagless

I can't make a case for Cardiff, sorry Bluebirds fans.

There's no shame in them being outclassed the way they were earlier this week, Fulham are just a better side with better resources right now.

I expect Cardiff to give it a right go and I'm sure they'll cause the home side problems but I do think Fulham will see the job through this evening and set up a tie with Brentford.

They're hitting the right notes at the moment, and Scott Parker will want to keep momentum going with a win this evening.

Scott Parker bidding to heal Fulham's relegation scars by reaching Wembley

Scott Parker says getting to the play-off final will be a significant step towards healing the scars of relegation and transforming Fulham from the wreck in which he found it.

Parker's side have one foot in next week's Championship play-off final at Wembley against west London rivals Brentford, as they take a 2-0 lead into Thursday night's semi-final, second leg against Cardiff.

Former Fulham midfielder Parker was appointed as the club's third manager of the season last year and his side went on to finish in 19th place with just seven wins, despite spending more than £100million following promotion to the top flight.

The ordeal left the club shattered at the start of this season, with the squad having changed drastically once more and being burdened with the expectation of an instant return to the promised land of the Premier League.

Parker said: "After being serial losers last year we went into this season expected to win the league by however many points and regain promotion.

"The reality is it doesn't normally happen like that, history tells you that. The players have scars from the Premier League, massive scars, and the mental issues and side of things which are relevant. When you lose a lot of matches there is always going to be a negative spiral around it.

"There were two manager changes [last season], Slav[isa Jokanovic] had been here a long time and then Claudio [Ranieri] came in, two managers with two different philosophies, £100million had been spent on I don't know how many players but a lot of players came in.

"[It brought] a totally different dynamic to everything in such a short space of time.

"The biggest thing is the relegation and the disappointment of that, [the] expectation that was on the team when they went into the Premier League after how much money was spent and the disappointment of then getting quickly relegated.

"You've then got a squad full of players which is then totally different from what it was during the previous season. [There was] a mindset of a group of individuals who had lost most weeks, we only won seven games in the Premier League, a real mindset of losing.

"Quickly you have to try to address that and try to change that, you realise you've got to take some small steps, work out what is important and try to change the mentality. Not just amongst the squad but the football club as well.

"I think we have done that, it does reappear because it will do but with time and with success and winning games it reconfirms to people that this is the right way and this is what we need to do."

Parker was today assessing the fitness of Golden Boot winner Aleksandar Mitrovic after he returned to training yesterday following a slight hamstring problem.

Parker Nominated
(https://ffcw001.azureedge.net/-/media/player/shutterstock_editorial_10707503g.png?w=622&h=278)

Scott Parker has been nominated for the Sky Bet Championship Manager of the Month award for July.

Fulham have remained unbeaten throughout the month – a run which hopefully continues in our Second Leg with Cardiff City – having won five and drawn two of our seven outings.

We have also collected five clean sheets in that spell, and found the back of the net 12 times.

Parker is up against Marcelo Bielsa, Steve Cooper, Nathan Jones, Michael O'Neill and Gerhard Struber, with the winner announced on Friday.

Fenerbahce reportedly interested in ex-Portsmouth and Wigan winger - along with Celtic, Millwall, Cardiff, Fulham, Sheffield Wednesday and Huddersfield
Fenerbahce are the latest club to be linked with former Pompey favourite Jamal Lowe.

Reports in Turkey suggest the winger is a target for the 19-time Super Lig champions following Wigan's relegation from the Championship.

The Latics dropped from 13th to 23rd after being hit by a 12-point deduction for entering administration, subject to an appeal tomorrow.

Wigan have already started selling off assets, with youngster Jensen Weir joining Brighton for an undisclosed fee.

It is reported the administrators have accepted a bid from QPR for striker Keiffer Moore, while the likes of Antonee Robinson and Joe Gelhart have been linked with moves away.

Lowe has also supposedly attracted interest – only a year after leaving Pompey for a fee of £2.5m following a protracted transfer saga.

The former Hampton & Richmond man recorded six goals and five assists during his maiden campaign at the Latics.

Mail Online previously reported that Scottish Premiership champions Celtic are keen, along with Championship duo Millwall and Cardiff.

Millwall had bids for the 25-year-old turn down last summer when Neil Harris was in charge. He's since taken the reigns at the south Wales outfit.

But now Fenerbahce are also supposedly weighing up a move for Lowe.

The Istanbul-based outfit finished seventh in the Super Lig last season.

Turkish-based reporter Zeki Uzundurukan claims Fulham, Sheffield Wednesday and Huddersfield are admirers, too.

Pompey have a sell-on clause installed in Jamal Lowe's DW Stadium contract, but he would need to depart Wigan for more than what they paid for him

The Blues have gained financial windfalls from Adam Webster's switch from Ipswich to Bristol City and Conor Chaplin's move from Coventry to Barnsley in recent years.

Bristol City locked in transfer tussle with Fulham in pursuit of winger

Bristol City and Fulham are interested in signing Fiorentina winger Christian Koffi, according to French website Mercato.

Fulham still have aspirations of reaching the Premier League via the play-offs this season, whilst Bristol City will be looking to strengthen as they prepare to ignite another promotion push next term.

A player who has reportedly emerged on their radar is Koffi, whose future at Fiorentina is up in the air after catching the eye this season.

The 19-year-old has endured a positive season for Fiorentina's youth side, scoring five goals and chipping in with four assists in 23 appearances this term.

But despite his contract set to run until 2023, the winger is "likely" to leave Italy this summer, with both Championship sides believed to be monitoring his progress.

City may look to add depth out wide, with Niclas Eliasson attracting interest from Celtic, and Marley Watkins and Hakeeb Adelakun's futures in doubt.

The Verdict

Koffi does look to be an exciting talent and it would be interesting to see how he gets on if he makes the move to England.

He's only young but he has seemingly caught the eye after contributing to a decent number of goals for Fiorentina's youth team.

He could be a great long-term option for either Fulham or Bristol City, particularly for the latter, though, as they do lack depth in that area of the pitch.

Bamba pre-Fulham | We're relishing the challenge

FULHAM PREVIEW | BAMBA
City defender Sol Bamba spoke with the press ahead of the Play-Off Semi-Final Second Leg against Fulham.

"It's a two goal deficit but nothing is impossible," Sol said on Monday evening. "We've been written off all season. It is going to be hard. Records are there to be broken though.

"We're relishing the challenge ahead. We aren't afraid.

"There is a reason why we finished fifth and made it to the Play-Offs.

"We're going to give everything we've got."

The Bluebirds fought back on a number of occasions across the regular 2019/20 season, including pegging back eventual champions Leeds United from a three-goal lead, and play-off finalists, Brentford from a two-goal advantage.

"We've got a full game to overturn the result this time, whereas at Leeds away we only had 30 minutes.

"We've been very good away from home and defensively. We need to keep tight at the back and see if we can score early.

"It is a tough result to turn around but we're going to go there, play freely and give it our all.

"We back ourselves."

He added: "I've been at different countries around Europe and I'm telling you, this Club should be in the Premier League. Everything is there for it. Unbelievable city; capital city.

"Great fan base and a wonderful stadium. It would mean a lot to us to bounce back."

Fulham v Cardiff City - Craven Cottage - Thursday 30th July 2020 - 7.45pm

The opposition

Neil Harris has always gone quite heavy on how the pressure is on Fulham in this tie, and it's a standpoint he continues to adopt going into the Second Leg. Cardiff would make history if they become the first side to ever reach the Championship Play-Off Final having been two goals down from the First Leg, but Scott Parker believes his side's mentality will be spot on as they look to book another Wembley date.
Permutations

There is no away goal rule in the Play-Offs, so if Fulham lose by any two-goal scoreline, the match will go to extra-time and then penalties, if needed. The winner will face Brentford in the Play-Off Final at Wembley on Tuesday 4th August (7.45pm).

"We have trailed a lot of games and found a way to come back and either win or draw. That gives me a lot of faith in my group - and belief. We can be a dangerous, wounded animal to come back and hurt teams. We have to use that passion, determination and resilience in abundance on Thursday night." – Cardiff manager Neil Harris

While aware of the advantage his team currently holds, Scott Parker is taking nothing for granted on Thursday.

Fulham currently enjoy a two-goal lead at the midway stage of our Play-Off Semi-Final, but our Head Coach knows there is no room for complacency in the Second Leg.

"We need to take the positives from the other night and how we performed as a team," Parker stated. "The players are in a good place, confidence is very high at the moment coming off a very good run of games.

"Momentum is good, but I'm very conscious that this tie is at half-time. Okay, we've put ourselves in a fantastic position, 2-0 up and we played very, very well, but in saying that we're up against a wounded animal in Cardiff, and we've got a game now which is going to bring a different challenge.

"As always, every game is about us and what we do. There's challenges which we may face, but ultimately it's about how we put our stamp on the game and bring our qualities to the football match, which we try to always do.

"We want to nullify the problems that Cardiff will cause us, and try and get a real control and put our stamp on the game, and try and get a positive result.

"That's our aim and what we're planning to do. But we also understand what a tough game it will be, and we need to respect that."

It was put to Parker that no side has ever overturned a two goal deficit to reach the Championship Play-Off Final, and so does his think his team have one foot at Wembley already?

"I wouldn't say that," he replied. "We understand that this is only half done here. We've still got another massive 90 minutes.

"Cardiff are coming tomorrow night, I don't know how they see it but certainly this game is not over. They realise that and we realise that.

"We need to go about it in a real positive, professional way, with a mentality about us, because that's what got us the result last time.

"If we do that then I have no doubt that we're in a good position and primed to do very well. Momentum's with us, confidence is here, I sense a real buzz around the place coming off the back of a real positive result against Cardiff.

"The players over the last couple of days have had a real buzz about them, but we've had that the last few weeks. You saw that the other night in the way we performed.

"But there's a line between confidence and arrogance and sloppiness, and we have to be the right side of that. We have to be very professional tomorrow night to try and get this job done."

Report: Bristol City and Fulham want Christian Koffi who claims he rejected Anfield move

According to Calciomercato, Bristol City and Fulham are interested in signing one-time Liverpool target Christian Koffi from Italian side Fiorentina.

The French winger has been linked with a move away from Fiorentina this summer.

Aged 19, Koffi has already been in the limelight having come through the ranks at Monaco.

Quoted by the Daily Star, the attacker told reporters how he turned down a move to Liverpool in 2018 in favour of a switch to Serie A side Fiorentina.

"When I was presented with the two contracts and the two sporting aspects, the choice of Fio was the best. Italy was really a championship where I didn't want to go initially, because it was a little bit contrary to my football. But after talking about it with my family, I realised that Italy was going to bring me a lot. And I was not mistaken," Koffi explained.

But despite his promise and comparisons to Liverpool ace Sadio Mane, Koffi has struggled to get game time at Fiorentina and could now leave.

Calciomercato claim Championship duo Bristol City and Fulham are keen.

The Robins are still manager-less following the sacking of Lee Johnson. The club finished in midtable in the Championship after slipping away from the playoff race.

Bristol City dipped into the foreign market last summer, signing Han-Noah Massengo from Monaco while Hungary international Adam Nagy arrived from Bologna.

Fulham's transfer plans this summer will depend on what league they are in.

The Whites are on course for a playoff final date with Brentford as they lead rivals Cardiff City 2-0 following their impressive first-leg victory on Wales.
