Title: Goals
Post by: We Are Premier League on August 14, 2020, 10:53:55 AM
Can't remember ever having a season with ZERO goals from central def and only one each from our fullback (excluding the playoff magic)...

That is surely a bad thing.

But then we scored way too few scrappy goals from inside the box. one of our main weaknesses last season was not getting sufficient bodies in the penalty area at the right time... and we will really need everyone to chip in next season, we cannot rely on some may world class efforts..we need scrappy and set piece goalks too.

Lack of goals from CBs can be blamed on very poor set pieces overall. A running theme for Fulham for some years now. Hector will surely be a threat if we can get the delivery right, and he starts from the edge of the area running in rather than almost standing on the goal-line.

As for full-backs, I'd be satisfied if they were non-scoring and doing a solid defensive job.

It's basics, if we are to survive this first season back in the Premier League, we have to score from anywhere on the pitch as long as the ball rolls over the goal line.
Tap ins, set pieces from corners, throw ons, free kicks in and outside the penalty area, 30 yard drives, own goals under pressure, overhead kicks, diving headers, bullet headers, stunning volleys or miscues.
They all count and they can come from any player on the pitch, but the jewel in the crown is to have a predator in the penalty area at all times, it is not rocket science, although the pundits on sky will say it is rocket science.
I can think of one player who could make all the difference and he only lives down the road.

I have been thinking the same thing and have been expecting the first goal from Hector every match since January.

We are far removed from the days of Roger Brown and that season he scored 12 goals.

The 'doors' in the Prem close a lot quicker then they do in the Championship. We need to be more direct, in the play off final was a 'classic one two move'. We need that in every match, we have the players to do that.

You are not permitted to hold the opposition in bear hugs in the Prem. Mitro will have a field day.
