Title: Team for Ipswich?
Post by: We Are Premier League on September 13, 2020, 08:16:53 AM
What about the cup game, should we play all the new players or make as few changes as possible?

My take is that the current team dont need time to gel, they know each other already, so I would change it up.

          Reid         Mitro     Knock
                       Anguissa
                   Lemina   Reed
Robinson  Ream     Hector    Tete
                          Areola

Don't care, the Cups competitions need major revamps. Maybe just have the one cup.

If you look at the Premier League and the Championship, the cup competitions are poor relatives, there is no value to them.

well it's a European place for winning them. And if there's no value why do the big clubs win the m pretty much every year. Why do they take them seriously? You have to go back 7 years since one of the big four didn't win the league cup. Haven't checked fa cup yet but bet it's longer

8 years ago was when Wigan won it. Other than that the big four have won it 12 out of thirteen times.

The cups give the new players and fringe players valuable match time to to get up to speed. Leeds returned to training as did most premiership teams before us because of the playoffs and these cup games early season give real match time to experiment with players and systems.

So I'm guessing you've never enjoyed the excitement of seeing us in a cup final then? I can assure you it provides memories that never fade. I'd swop a season in the Prem for another FA Cup final or, even better another European final. No revamp required.

I use to love the whole Cup Final day thing, it just needs something more to bring it into the 2020's

I'm of the opinion that Knocky isn't good enough for the PL based on last season so Aina who is quicker and more direct gets preferential treatment as long term he should be starting in the PL

Yes, the match has to be used to give new and fringe players game time.

The big clubs win them because they have the biggest and best squads in depth. We on the other hand will play an inexperienced side and have no chance of winning. In my day cups were big but as time and sponsorship has come in the cups have been cheapened and made an interruption to the league. Much like Internationals. I see no point in them any more other than to make a congested fixture list even more congested.

That team looks pretty strong. If selected and we fail to beat Ipswich the selection against Leeds is going to be interesting.

       Areola
Tete Hector Ream
Aina Reed Anguissa Robinson
          Carney
    Kamara Mitro

I think a back 5 is in Parker's plans this signing Tete and Aina, plus tonight is chance to experiment

Not convinced about that, a minimum of 5 CB's would be required for a back 3 and we have about 2 atm..

I am just hoping that we can get to see how Areola can marshall our defence.

So far our keepers in the past few years are too "kind".

why do people want to play 5 at the back against a 3rd division team. i know we were bad at the weekend, but not so bad that we have to defend for our lives against them. lets stop being negative.

Assuming because people see 3-5-2 as our go to going forward (I certainly think it has promise), so if you're going to try it in anger then no better time than against a team you really ought to be beating
