The two less teams is argued to be the cost of subsidizing the EFL. With 18 teams, relegation also becomes slightly more dangerous for any big clubs who have a one off bad season. Big German clubs, other than Bayern, get relegated every year.

FFP was definitely a big club way of maintaining their high positions. That needs to be worked out as well.

They only want this to make more money for themselves and potentially pave the way for a european super league. These days they are nothing more than foreign companies looking to best see how they can extract as much money for themselves as possible. This idea should be kicked into touch as soon as possible and I hope that the EFL does get tempted by the carrot dangled in front of them which is a very short term thing.

Is premier league football really anymore exciting than the old days of the first division when the title was open to more than just six clubs and a majority of the players were from the uk.
I don't think so, all I know is that players and agents take more money out of our pockets.

One possible solution would be for all the other Prem teams to simply refuse to play Liverpool and Man U.
Then they would not accumulate any points and would not be in the top 6!

Could the FA Cup and League Cup revenues from Premier League clubs go directly to the ELF Clubs?
Would the math's add up?

Blinding idea.
Indeed, they'd be given 3-0 wins by default all season long

they would lose the majority of match day revenue and tv money as their games would never be picked. Works for me

I disagree, you are correct that the BIG CLUBS are looking make more money for themselves, but you are incorrect as the BIG CLUBS aren't looking to pave the way for a european super league. Manchester United and some other BIG SIX ClUBS would be crucified in a fully European League of the TOP 20 teams, and their supporters like winning. I think being a Whale in a small pond suits them just fine, as its profitable and predictable.

Manchester United want to get more revenue and spend less money than now, getting a bigger percentage of the TV revenue and starving teams like Fulham revenue so their players look better is essential. The BIG SIX against everyone else is a war that has to be fought, and to win the small teams have to pull away support from the BIG CLUBS. The essential way to scare the BIG SIX CLUBS is for the small clubs to be unpredictable and not play by the rules, but play together.

And then the bug clubs would likely take the dissenters to court over that lost revenue.

The non "Big 6" clubs could form a new Top tier & not invite the 6 to take part. The new division could negotiate TV rights with the terrestial stations of the BBC & ITV. Proceeds to be shared equally.

The way manu are going, relegation might be on the cards anyway....I would love it. The supporters will be crying all the way from Cambridge to Bath.

It would be by invitation. There would be no relegation. Each club would sell its tv rights for itself. For me the quicker it happens the better eventually they would be begging to come back

The last time Man United were relegated was 1973/74. Ironically this was the first season the bottom three clubs were relegated.
Maybe they should volunteer to drop down if this crazy idea is accepted.

I remember this so well ( wasn't there a Denis Law back heal playing for City? )   Don't forget that some 3 years  ? later Spurs ( with Hoddle were also relegated  )

Given the proposal was unaminously rejected by all twenty PL clubs then the whole 'Big Picture' idea would appear to have been a ruse to get more serious discussion going throughout the pyramid.  Perhaps the idea of independent control of football away from member clubs will gather some much needed momentum in the future but we have been here many times before and so I wouldn't hold my breath.

Either that or Man Utd and Liverpool saw how fiercely and widely the proposal was condemned, and backed away from it, hopefully feeling suitably embarrassed for having raised it.
