Thirty eighteen and I don't know  :-\ . I know it was shortly after I moved into our place on the corner of Fulham and Munster Roads so toward the end of January 97 ? I was in the Stevenage/JH stand and the result was cause for huge celebration. Any clues ? My last of that era was Fulham v Sunderland on or about 11 Jan 2002 when I returned to Oz, before visiting in 2008 and getting along to Fulham v Liverpool and (0 - 2) and then the win against the Brums (2 -0) McGod and Erik the Viking. Next one ???? ...Just checked for any ticket stubs but only found the Brum ticket (signed by Nevland) and the Cottage ticket for the screening of the Pompey game. Got that one signed by Danny when Fulham were in Oz  :D

Colin, 11th January we stuffed Darlington 6-0, next home game was against Cardiff and they beat us 1-4, so little to celebrate there - perhaps it was our win against Swansea City that was the cause of celebration owing to the fact 3 years before The Swans had doomed us to relegation on the final day of the '93/'94 season and this was sweet revenge on us getting the double over them? I cannot remember though, my records show that all the teams vying for promotion with us won that weekend, so it can't be that. Let me know if the memory kicks in - Ed

First draw  Sunderland 2-2  Chris Guthrie got 1 goal i remember 1978

Dean, are you sure about the season or team? We had 3 nil-nil home games that season:-
Wolves

The Burnley game was 2-2 that season - however, we had a 0-0 against them in August 1978, let me know - Ed

61, Blackburn, 1960.

Reference Tony Gilroy. I was at the Port vale game also. Reason I remember it (I think) was due to a burly 3rd division centre half booting the ball into the river. Biggest cheer of the day.

Sheffield White and Peabody, it was definitely a Saturday, k.o. was 2.45pm.  I have the programme in front of me (thanks to LBno11!!).

My bunking off came a bit later when England played televised home internationals. For example England 5 USSR 0 when the Maestro put three goals past Lev Yashin. There were other games too. Enough that my teacher complained that surely I must have run out of grandmothers' funerals by now.

45 and aging rapidly, reserve game in 1968 against one of the Bristol teams (my dear old Dad never could recall which of them and I was too young to remember) and we won 6-0, we stuck a young defender called Malcolm MacDonald in as an emergency striker and he scored for fun. Dad always said he was talking to an old supporter, complaining that as the first team couldn't score we should give MacDonald a chance, you wait, said the old geezer, we'll sell him soon. Sure enough, Alec Stock and Luton swooped and "discovered" the lad could play up front.

First game I definately recall being at was the 1-0 loss to Preston at the end of 1970-71, but I have vague memories of the riverside terrace being reduced to rubble prior to the Riverside Stand being built (and the debt from that crippling us for decades).
I also remember us beating Pele and Santos, 1972 I think.

47. My first game at Craven Cottage wasn't a Fulham game. It was a world cup qualifier in 1973: Northern Ireland versus Cyprus, which NI won 3-0. Played at FFC due to the troubles. First FFC game I think was home to Sunderland in September 73 but bit vague......!

My first game was in 1963 when I was 10 years old. Our school did a football exchange with a school from Liverpool. They came down to London, stayed with us and we played a couple of games against them.  Fulham v Liverpool was on that Saturday so we all went to it.  The score was 0-0, so honour was safe all round. However, I was hooked on the Fulham magic from that day forward.

48, can't remember my first game but it was early 70'ies. My dad didn't take me to the Cottage often so I guess I was a bit of a late starter compared to most. He did however take me to Wembley in 1975 and that is my most vivid and early memory of Fulham and also a very fond memory of my father as he passed away that same year. My uncle took over the duties of bringing the young 'un to the Cottage after that

The first game that I remember watching was the 08 visit of Arsenal.  It was on FSC and I told the Missus that if we could get away with a draw, we'd be doing well.  Hangeland got his foot on the end of a corner and we held on for victory...

...one of the class of '54. I was a fan of Fulham for two years prior to my first attendance; Easter Monday, March 1967 in glorious sunshine amongst a massive crowd of 47,290 to watch two teams that included some of the England world cup winning squad: George Cohen, Nobby Stiles and Bobby Charlton, and of course the man who could have been the England Captain in '66, Johnny Haynes.

Fulham went into the lead when Allan 'Sniffer' Clarke scored, Man Ure equalised through George Best and we went into half time at one a'piece. Fulham second was a real 'smashed into the roof of the net' job from the player who would become my favourite ever player, Les Barrett (No11 ;)). Man Ure put so much pressure on us and eventually the least likely man to equalize for them was the gap toothed Nobby Stiles. Final Score: 2 - 2

The sights, sounds and even the smell (must have been the man ure) had me hooked for life...

I went down to Melbourne for the game against Victory (didn't Eddie Johnson score ??? ) Had a great weekend and met the one and only Mr Corked Hat. I'm 29 and lost my Fulham virginity in February 2004, it was an FA Cup replay against Everton.

I started following in Fulham since 1995 when I found out that I had a family connection. Despite taking a keen interest in the club I did not know anyone that actively supported club until my brother suggested that I went to along to this match with a guy from his Sunday league team.

We were playing at Loftus road that season and despite the decrepid stadium and skanky surrounds I was quite taken by the atmosphere and the feeling that you get when surrounded by thousands of Fulham fans. I no longer felt alone in the world!

I don't remember the game that clearly other than that each time we scored my brother (who was sat between myself and his mate) got caught up in inpromptu hugging.

Looking back on the match report (http://www.evertonfc.com/match/report/0304/fulham-04-02-2004-19-45.html (http://www.evertonfc.com/match/report/0304/fulham-04-02-2004-19-45.html)) I am surprised to see that a young Rooney missed a sitter and how the line up's have gradually changed. Volzy was the last man to leave us from that side.

A year later I had my first true Fulham experience, a match at the cottage, again v Everton.

It was a stunning spring day in April, bright skies and t-shirt weather. A few pre-match pints and a bbq in the Golden Lion beer garden set the tone for the day.

Walking to the ground we cut through the tennis courts near Bishops Park road. I remember being half cut and thinking how different it was to Loftus Road, trees blossoming and big beautiful houses. I can't forget the feeling of walking down the Stevenage Road for the first time, merging with the crowds and marvelling at our famous listed stand.

We won that game 2-0 but did not stop Everton from finishing 4th .

Since that first match at the cottage I have not looked back and even managed to convert a few more friends and family to the bright side.

Apparently taken to games before my first memory --- but nobody still alive to confirm or deny!!!!

All these years I have said the game I first remembered was a 0-0 draw verses Ipswich in 1958, consequently celebrated long and hard in 2008 when I reached 50 years.... bloody hell... refering to Dennis Turners most excellent book "The Complete Record" this very evening I find the first game ingrained in my memory was played on the 18th September 1957

Can't bloody believe it .... wrong year all this time.......

Thank you for the cover LB..... I'm sure the bloke on right in the away strip is Stanley Matthews. I was at his last ever game (?) at the Cottage when gentleman Jim Langley refused to tackle the old guy..... he was held in such high esteem ( and i think he was fifty!!)

Can someone tell me if this is shite or has my selective memory kicked in.

BTW I was also at your first game LB v Man u in 67 --- a few of us came up from Guildford on our scooters!! --- those were the days.

1961/62 season we beat the blades 5-2, a Maurice Cook hat trick, and a goal apiece for Leggat & Lowe

I'm afraid your selective memory has kicked in here.  Stanley Matthews certainly played his last league game against Fulham at the incredible age of fifty and was indeed up against Jimmy Langley , but the game took place at Stoke's old ground The Victoria Grounds.  I remember that the weather in the few days before the match had been very cold and frosty and to ensure that the pitch was not frozen in those days before general undersoil the Stoke ground staff had covered it with straw.  Langley certainly let Matthews do pretty well as he wanted, but I seem to remember that the man of the match was one Rodney Marsh.  It was a long time ago and I was very young, but it's nice to be able to say that I was there.  Now how many of you were at Coventry on that freezing day many years ago to see Fulham win that much-coveted piece of silverware the Winston Churchill Memorial Cup?

I don't question any of that but I do remember regretting not going to see Matthews play for Stoke in a match at Craven Cottage that was heavily publicised as likely to be his last and selected because Jim Langley would be a "fair" opponent.

I can't now remember why I missed the match but I never got to see Matthews play and I certainly should have gone.

Thank you TonyW, I obviously attended the game at the Cottage along with Tony Gilroy and there was much talk of Stan last game. I was very young but can still remember that shufflle and darting run Stan employed to get past our Jim.

Can't remember the score however but just the lovely feeling of being there at The Cottage with my older brother.

...it has been interesting to note that there is a good mix of, ahem, veteran fans pre late 70's mixed with those who started watching from 1997 onwards.

I suppose it is not surprising that from 1980 to 1997 we did not attract many fans and all we had left were the old stalwarts and those who had been brought up in Fulham families.

Anyone of you attracted to Fulham in those dark days..?

I would have gone to my first game around about February 1987.  But I have no memory of the game itself.  I've probably got the programme somewhere.

When I was a little'un I think Dad's one escape from us kids was the football. When I found out where he went every Saturday I pestered him mercilessly until, after a couple of years, he caved in.  He eased me in gently by taking me along and sitting in some of the (few, at the time) seats in the Riverside.  To this day, I suspect he didn't want me to hear some of the Hammersmith End language.  By the late '80s I was deemed old enough to learn some curse words and we moved to the Hammersmith Terrace.  By this time I was old enough to realise that a lot of the football was tripe, so I spent long periods playing with other kids on the earthen banks under the Hammersmith End.  At this time, my little brother started to come to games as well.  It didn't take long before he decided to follow Spurs!

...and it got me reminiscing again too. Strange how certain games stand out in the memory when jogged by the programme covers (again well done LB.) the 2-2 draw with Man U when Nobby Stiles equalised is a case in point. I remember that it became all-ticket even for the terraces, and we had to go and queue for them at the previous home game.....for the inflated price of five shillings(25p) instead of the usual 4 (20p) payable at the turnstile. Outrageous prices! What would we have said if we'd have known then that cheapest admission 40 years on would have been(allowing for inflation) about 4 times more expensive? True, we now get a seat that we don't always want to sit in, but that's another issue entirely...

Fulham v. Blackburn in 1974 was my first ever.

One of these days I may do an estimate, cry in to my pint of Pride and console myself with the fact that it has ALL been for a GREAT cause :)

Also 44.

First match was Fulham 0 Millwall 0, in Oct/Nov time 1981. I was a 14 year old wannabe hooligan. Absolutely smitten by the Club from the very first game - I just somehow felt I belonged, even though none of my family were Fulham fans at the time.

It's funny, but it has been the one constant in my life ever since. Jobs have come and gone. Friends have come and gone. Money has come and gone. Ladies have come and gone (with the money!).

If you want to track me down in 20 years time, assuming I am still fit and well, then you'll find me in the away end at Rochdale (or whoever we're playing on any given Saturday). FTID.

The strange thing is Mr Scrumpy, I too always thought I would like to be a hooligan - being a Battersea boy it was almost mandatory
When I was fourteen you could stand in the midst of the away supporters which invariably I did. I recall with some unfettered glee that I had a dust up with a person with a strange accent who was wearing a Nottingham Forest scarf. Then there was an unsavoury incident with a Leicester City supporter which had me scurrying for an early exit, but in all truth I had neither the physique nor bottle to become anything other than a passive watcher.
I became so pusillanimous that I started paying protection money to the Salvation Army and the chances of me getting into a rumble were about the same as me swimming in a croc infested waterhole.
Besides Fulham wasn't the team to engage in war with opposing supporters – you could never count on anyone being with you when the fists began to fly. If you were Millwall or someone, at least you knew that you would have a few hundred like minded hooligans at your side.
At Fulham you would be lucky to find an old man with a rolled up newspaper – more likely an old lady with an umbrella would be more the go.
No, my dreams of being a hooligan were fleeting and I can thank the serenity of Craven Cottage for that.

The 80-81 season started in the dark days with Campbell getting the sack not long after my first game 0-4 defeat to Oxford UTD, but in came McDonald and we went on a whirlwind campaign.
I have been hooked ever since, I used to go to many away games and all home and the crowds started to grow again.
I can remember IVOR scoring a goal from near the corner flag against Chesterfield and we had 9000 in the ground which was a big crowd that season.
I Love this Club  :004:
