Tosh Chamberlain RIP Fulham legend
Just been informed that Tosh Chamerlain passed away peacefully this morning. I never saw him but still very sad news. 🙏
Damn sad. RIP.
Was in a good mood today, but this news has knocked me right back, spoke to him a few times over the years on his visits back to the ground.
RIP a true Fulham legend.
Terrible news.
May he RIP and my sincerest condolences to his friends & family.
FFC legend.
A great player and a wonderful gentleman. RIP
One of my favourite all time Fulham players, real character on and off the pitch.
A great loss to the Fulham family to say the least.
Rest in Peace Tosh you will be sorely missed for so may reasons.
Sad news.
In a world of anemic players Tosh was a hark back to a time when there were genuine characters about and he was special in that he was a character that stood out amongst charecters.
Sad news indeed.
RIP
How sad. I remember seeing him play. What a character. Rest in Peace Tosh.
The club has a nice (albeit brief) tribute to him on the offal. Moved quite fast, considering it's a Sunday morning - so credit where credit's due...
TOSH CHAMBERLAIN: 1934-2021
Everyone at Fulham was devastated to learn of the passing of Club icon Tosh Chamberlain.
The effervescent Tosh – real name Trevor – passed away this morning aged 86.
Chamberlain, a lively forward, spent 11 seasons with the Whites during the 1950s and 60s, hitting 64 goals in 204 appearances.
After scoring with the first touch of his Fulham career in 3-2 win over Lincoln City, he was part of the teams which reached the 1958 FA Cup Semi-Final against Manchester United and won promotion to the top flight in 1959.

Chamberlain possessed an absolute rocket of a shot, but the power delivered in his strikes would sometimes come at the expense of accuracy!
His powerful kicks created a legacy at Craven Cottage, with a mistimed corner kick snapping a flag in two, and a backpass to Tony Macedo resulting in the goalkeeper suffering broken ribs.
Fulham folklore also tells of Tosh occasionally sneaking a cigarette on the bench, or from a supporter if the ball was up the other end of the pitch.

Tosh was a lifelong friend of Whites legend Johnny Haynes following their time together in the local school district teams, and is credited as being one of the major reasons why Haynes joined the Club.
Chamberlain had brief spells with Dover Athletic and Gravesend & Northfleet after leaving SW6, but was a regular visitor to the Cottage ever since.
Tosh still had a lot of friends at Fulham and remained in the hearts of every fan who saw him play.
The thoughts of us all are now with Tosh's wife Margaret, sons Steve and John, granddaughter Terri-Anne, as well as the wider family and friends of one of Fulham Football Club's most popular ever characters.

Sad news. A true Fulham legend. I saw him play. A great unorthodox player with a thunderous shot on him. RIP.
Just when I thought this year was going to be getting better. Loved the player and the person. Thanks for the memories Tosh
Hardest left foot shot in the game, he was the reason Johny Haynes joined Fulham.
It was a privilage to have known you Tosh. RIP
Rest in peace Tosh, and many condolences to Margaret and the family.
RIP Tosh.
Sad, Sad news, RIP
Sad news indeed. I never saw him play but saw him several times at the Cottage. He always had a smile on his face and was happy to chat to anyone. RIP Tosh.
Tosh lived locally and over the years I have bumped in to him several times in Stoneleigh Broadway and have always had a chat . It is a shame that we will not be able to give him a proper send off.
Sincere condolences to Tosh's family and friends.
Tosh made me laugh and cry, often at the same time, and he never once let me down as the character and hero I could try to emulate when I first played football for real. He made Fulham FC and Craven Cottage so very special to me in my early years.
RIP.
Very sad news. My dad played football with him a few times in the 60s for the H&F Mayor's 11 vs the Council staff 11. He said he was a lovely man and he could really kick a ball.
RIP Tosh.
What a loss to The Fulham family, really made me sad when I received the news.
God bless you Tosh and sincere condolences to your family.
Very sad news. Tosh was one of my first Fulham heroes and one of my early memories was the 1958 cup run in which he featured.
Such sad news, such a character
I remeber watching him in the 60's, never one to hold back on whatever he was doing. Often sent the Maesrto into fits of anger
For those who have never seen it here is a lovely clip of Callaghan Cohen and Tosh (when he turns up) talking about Haynes

Well said - he really was a great character. My mum asked for his autograph one morning in the bank that used to be outside Lewis Trust Estate. I was about 14 and cringed...but he was so genuinely taken aback to be asked and so nice to my mum that he became an instant hero.
Sad, very sad news.
But a bloke who brought joy and hapiness wherever he went.
I am truly sad to hear this news. He was, surely, near the top of everyone's favourite player. I was at that game against Lincoln and as I remember it, received the ball straight from kick off and scored, even quicker than Georgie Bests goal. RIP Tosh
Sad news, sounds like a real character, RIP.
Unfortunately I never saw Tosh play but what a character he was I've just rewatched George Cohen Fred Callaghan and Tosh chatting on the web site. It is clear they all loved the club as we all do. Although Tosh was a fraction before my time I've seen him when he has visited and feel very sad that he has passed away. RIP Tosh and condolences to your family and friends
Sad news - but just would like to add how well written the tribute on the FFC homepage is which, along with the sad parts, also left a smile on my face.
Particularly liked the following:

Of such stuff are legends created!!! RIP
Truly devastating - one of the most genuine, sincere & nicest people you could ever wish to meet. Knew him in Fulham when I was just a lad - my Dad used to play football & we got to know him through his connections. He would always give you the time of day - even later when we met him & he & Margaret were/are such lovely people. Heard the tales from him re Johnny Haynes etc & what a bullet of a left foot he had. Once, much later playing 5 a side at a local boys club, he coached & guested for some team & played, as a cameo against us. He released one left foot piledriver, which took our 'keeper backwards into the goal! RIP & sincere condolences to Margaret & his family & friends.
RIP Tosh.
Tosh...Legend...RIP..😩
I am very upset to hear this news. A wonderful servant to Fulham. He scored with his first touch in his first game. Had the good fortune to shake hands with him at the ground once. It should never be forgotten that it was Tosh who brought the Maestro to the club. He had a rocket of a shot when the ball was as heavy as a medicine ball. What a character. Thanks for all the memories Tosh. RIP.
Sad news indeed. I used to watch him in the 60's and there was a buzz in the crowd whenever Tosh got the ball.
Yes, a true Fulham legend. RIP
Just come on to the site and read this news. So sorry for his family. Rest in peace Tosh and thanks for the memories.
big blot on my day. i was just a 13 year old when i first watched him play , he was so full of fun always wanting to lighten up the scene, he read the eulogy at a cab driver buddy of mine many years back and even had the congregation giggling . hes joining a bunch of his playing buddies now sleep peacefully tosh.
For whatever reason, I got up this morning (still morning here in U S) feeling good about the day. Now, reading this...so so sad. I remember seeing him play many times about 1960. R I P Tosh.
Will never forget the part Tosh played in the Newcastle cup game, scored a hat trick and was robbed of a fourth by Jack Taylor, who was linesman that day and would later referee a World Cup Final
Oh my word , what a sad loss to not only Fulham but to me for a special reason. I lived opposite a family in Southfields. Most Sunday´s Tosh & sometimes The Maestro visited for afternoon tea. I was often invited for tea but was often tongue tied.
My everlasting memory was when Tosh was dithering with a throw in in front of the enclosure. Pensioners were allowed to sit on benches in front of the railings. One old boy got up, took the ball from Tosh & threw it to a Fulham player. The ref laughed & allowed play to go on. One of the biggest roars of all time.
9739.gif Very sad news.... RIP Tosh.
Thoughts are with your family and friends ⚽️⚽️
My Dad loved watching him play .....
Tosh was truly a Fulham legend, I was in Ruislip a few years back, and Tosh and Mark Lazarus (ex QPR) saw my FFC badge and came over and spoke to me!!!! His love of our club was so apparent and it was a joy to have watched him play. It is true that Johnny Haynes only came to Fulham because of him. RIP
Sad news, he lived around the corner from us and was a good mate of my dad's. Rarely without a smile and a story. Fulham borough and club have truly lost one of their own.

Wonderful story😂😂
Such sad news
Without doubt our biggest and best ever character as well as the player with the hardest shot we ever saw.
So loved by all of us who watched him play.
He was my gym teacher in the the 60's, I remember going to play football and giving him the football on the halfway line and saying can you score from there? Ha said not with the plastic balls we were using, if we had a proper leather ball he could, lol!!
Sad news indeed. Lived around the corner in Rosebury Road. Knew him and his family. RIP Mr Chamberlain.
One of the players / reasons that makes Fulham so special & why we support them
Yes I know most other clubs claim similar - BUT they aren't Fulham FC
RIP Tosh
The great John Arlott was not only a cricket commentating legend but he was also an excellent football journalist who was regularly seen at the Cottage in the late 50s.
He had a great humour in his reporting and I will always remember ' Fulham gained a corner and Tosh Chamberlain relieved the goalmouth pressure by heading clear'.
Some great stories on a sad day. RIP

Tosh was certainly among my fovourite players and way out on top of every ones most loved player surely.
Unfortunately I only saw him play once, in a testimonial game after he had retired. I remember taking to him immediately and thinking what a special talent he was and how wonderful it would have been to have seen him play "for real".

It was wonderful to see that again, thank you for posting.
I was lucky enough to see Tosh play, even if towards the end of his illustrious career.
For many us, he summed up everything Fulham FC was about - a swashbuckling winger, with a cannonball shot from distance, that could either be a worldy, or hit the corner flag, but someone who would exchange friendly banter with the fans standing on the riverside terrace.
For many of us it was the Tosh and Haynes show down on the Thames, with Johnny often glaring at his good mate, when he'd failed to control a thirty yard pass.
But they were great mates, as said, and us kids would often wait for ages outside the Cottage entrance for them, and the other players to emerge after a game. Well, we'd seen the crates of beer being delivered before the game.
Neither Tosh nor Johnny was ever too big to sign a photo or scrap of paper, only requesting that we form an orderly queue.
It was Tosh who began a snowball fight with us shivering kids watching the players jogging round the outside of the snow covered pitch, unusually being allowed in to the Cottage to watch training on a day when everywhere was buried under heavy snow.
At Chelsea we'd always get thrown out.
The Fulham players then, were like family of friends to us, real warm, human characters, and we felt as if we knew them, and of course, like Tosh and JH, they often spent most of their career at the same club.
But Tosh had been a top player in his time for Fulham, with some memorable goals to his credit, too, and fans who saw him play, and very many who didn't, as we see here, have such fond memories of him.
Tosh was Mr. Fulham for many of us.
RIP
RIP Tosh
Still remember knocking at his house in Roseberry road when I was young and asking if tosh could come out to play football (which he would often do) or seeing him in South Park when he would also join in
Can't imagine today's players doing that.
Always great fun and really seamed to enjoy life
My sympathy is with his family
Happy memories of him in my young days. A Fulham stalwart.
Rest in Peace Tosh. You played a blinder.
He may have played way before I was first involved with FFC but I got the impression from what I saw and heard of him that he was a true Fulham man with a huge character, and I'm gutted to see that he's passed. RIP Tosh.
By popular demand - TOSH ON FIRE!
Would be nice, when the fans are back at the Cottage, to have a tribute to one of Fulham's grest characters
I'm sure they will do Dodgin, he was part of the furniture.
So sad. Although I never saw him play I knew him well as a customer of mine and considered him a friend. He would always make me laugh with his stories and was the reason my family and me became Part of the great Fulham family.
Love and thoughts to his family and miss you mate RIP
Very sad news. A great servant to the club. I can well remember the left foot thunderbolts.
Before my time, sounds like a great character, ace footballer. Football has lost all it's characters. RIP.
Would love to have seen Mario Balotelli play for us, good on the pitch, but the stories too.
