The injury news Brighton fans wanted to hear ahead of Fulham relegation battle
Brighton and Hove Albion received some good news on the injury fron ahead of their vital clash against fellow Premier League strugglers Fulham at the Amex Stadium tomorrow night

Albion head coach Potter expects to have midfielder Adam Lallana (illness and groin) and striker Aaron Connolly (hamstring) back in his squad following their respective fitness issues, although neither is likely to start.

Connolly has not featured for Albion since their pulsating 3-3 home draw against Wolves at the start of January. Connolly looked sharp that day and scored a well-taken goal during the first half but failed to appear in the second half after tweaking his hamstring.

The injury took a little longer than expected to heal but the Ireland international has trained well this week and is expected to available to use from the bench against Scott Parker's team.

The return of playmaker Lallana is also a timely boost. The 32-year-old former Liverpool midfielder also last played for Albion on January 2 against Wolves as he appeared as a 69th minute substitute for Dan Burn.

Lallana is available having recovered from illness and groin a problem.

Tariq Lamptey, who last played for Brighton in the 0-0 draw at Fulham last on December 16, has been ruled out with a hamstring injury. The 20-year-old is pencilled in for a February return.

Alireza Jahanbakhsh and Danny Welbeck (knee) remain sidelined for the Seagulls.

Potter also stressed Premier League relegation is not decided in January as he moved to play down the significance of Wednesday's showdown with fellow strugglers Fulham.

Albion sit five points and one position above Scott Parker's 18th-placed Cottagers ahead of the midweek meeting at the Amex Stadium, albeit having played a game more.

While the perilous positions of the clubs have seen the match dubbed a 'six-pointer', Potter was eager to avoid adding to the hype.

"As far as I know you only get three for this one! But, if we win, I will take six, no problem," he said.

"The point is, if you ask me or Scott, I am sure we would both say we'd love to win and three points would be fantastic for us.

"But we have got another 50-odd points to play for in the Premier League and nothing is finished in January, you have to keep fighting.

"I am sure both teams want to win."

Brighton go into the second half of the campaign having registered a meagre 17 points from their opening 19 fixtures.

The Seagulls ended a nine-game winless streak at Leeds in their last Premier League outing but are still awaiting a first top-flight home success of the season.

Potter, who believes the value of home advantage has decreased due to games being played without supporters, admits halting the lengthy wait for a league win in Sussex would ease the pressure on his side.

"We want to try and improve that record," he said.

"Anybody will say that if you're winning your home games, everything becomes a little bit easier.

"You can see how the games have gone this year, the home advantage is less and less.

"You just have to keep fighting and know that – home or away – there's an opportunity to win, as well as to lose.

"You have to have that respect of the opposition and the league. We will do our best to turn it around."

Kebano could leave Fulham on loan

A clutch of Championship clubs are keen to offer Neeskens Kebano first team football if Fulham are open to letting him leave on loan before the end of the transfer window, according to reports this morning.

Football Insider says that several second-tier sides are ready to table offers to take the Congolese winger on loan, but Scott Parker and the Fulham hierarchy have yet to decide on his immediate future. The 28 year-old has only started one league game this season – he lasted 63 minutes of the opening day defeat by Arsenal – and his chances of further football at Craven Cottage appear remote after the Whites were knocked out of the FA Cup by Burnley last weekend. Kebano, who scored in the previous round at QPR, was a second half substitute in that defeat by the Clarets.

The likeable winger signed a two-year contract following Fulham's promotion in August having scored five goals in as many games – and emerged as a surprise free-kick specialist – as Parker's side triumphed in the Championship play-offs. Having slipped out of the first-team picture following the summer arrival of Ademola Lookman, Kebano will be looking to secure regular football to boost his international prospects with DR Congo battling to qualify for the delayed Africa Cup of Nations finals due to be held this summer.

He has scored 15 goals in 99 appearances since signing from Genk for £3.5m in August 2016, but has only started 35 games in over four years in London. Sheffield Wednesday have had several loan offers for Kebano rejected in recent seasons – and it remains to be seen if the winger will be one of the departures hinted at by Parker in his post-match comments on Sunday.

Albion meet Fulham and it IS a big game

It is too tempting and too easy to look ahead and identify certain fixtures for wins.

But we all do it, don't we?

Are players or managers equally guilty? Maybe, but they would not admit to it.

But it is certainly a trap into which those of us on the outside can fall.

Losing away to Norwich at the end of a week of celebration doesn't really matter.

Just watch them win the title at home to Bristol City instead.

Don't worry too much about the worsening Premier League position during the FA Cup run.

Enjoy Wembley and pick up the league points required at home to Southampton, Bournemouth and Cardiff.

This time last year how many of us were eyeing a run of games against Aston Villa, Bournemouth, West Ham and Watford as a chance for Albion to distance themselves from danger?

Or thinking wins would come this season when West Brom, Burnley and Sheffield United visited the Amex?

It doesn't work like that.

You can identify opportunities but they are not always taken.

I personally believe Albion will get the wins they need this season.

But I would not like to predict when.

Still, Fulham at home has to be an opportunity. For both teams.

The sides currently either side of the cut-off line meet at the Amex tomorrow.

A win takes Albion eight points clear of the Cottagers, who they should have beaten on the road before Christmas.

But you would not be an Albion fan if you weren't looking at the table and also working out the immediate consequences of an away win.

It will not settle anything but Fulham's visit feels like a big game.

Getting Graham Potter to agree with that is the easy part What you will not hear is him saying it is bigger than any other.

He told reporters: "All the games are big for everybody in the Premier League.

"Everybody wants to win, three points are important.

"It's the same for Scott (Parker) and Fulham as it is for us.

"We're in a good moment but you have to start again in the game.

"We have been through a tough period where we didn't win for a while "It was nice to get that win against Leeds.

"It was good to come through that tough week again Newport County, Manchester City and Leeds. The Man City performance was quite good.

"Our performances this season have been good in general.

"The only times I can think when they weren't is against Leicester and a half against West Brom.

"It's the same at Fulham.

"They have performed well and in some games they have been a bit unlucky "You can see that their performances have been strong. It will be a tough game."

There were a couple of theories being fired at Potter as he answered questions via Zoom yesterday.

One was that the onus was on Albion more than Fulham to win given they are at home.

(Which in turn led to that awful home record being brought up).

The other was that, given their five-point lead over the Cottagers, it is more of a must-not-lose occasion for the Seagulls than a must-win.

Potter said: "I think you always try to approach the games to win.

"If you're at home, I think there is naturally that long-standing thought that the onus is on you and generally that's the case.

"But you've lost a massive external factor out of the game, which is the crowd, which I think does influence a lot of how the game is played to a certain extent.

"But we're at home, we want to try and win the game.

"We also know Fulham are very strong playing against that type of thought, so there is a balance required.

"I think both teams are capable, home or away, of winning.

"Clearly we want to try and win our game because we are at home and we want to try and get three points."

There could, of course, be another factor to throw in – and that is the current slump being suffered by Newcastle United.

Will that continue? Should both these teams be eyeing Toon as a team to overhaul? They will be in reach if they lose to Leeds tonight Either way, talk of a six-pointer at the Amex will continue.

That is the sort of game in which Albion have not fared so well at home, be it with or without fans.

West Brom, Burnley and Sheffield United this season.

Watford, Villa, and arguably Crystal Palace leading into lockdown.

POTTER DOES NOT EXPECT BUSY END TO WINDOW
The last time they safely negotiated one of these fixtures at the Amex was in beating Bournemouth more than a year ago.

Potter might not be aware that, two years ago this week, Albion went to Craven Cottage with the chance to open a 15-point lead over their hosts.

Fulham came from 2-0 down to win 4-2 but still went down.

Things are a bit tighter in the table this time with a long way to go.

Potter said: "As far as I know you only get three points for this one.

"But if we win I'll take six, no problem!

"If you ask me, if you ask Scott, I'm sure we would both say we'd love to win. Three points would be fantastic for us.

"The reality is we have got another 50-odd points to play for in the Premier League.

"Nothing is finished in January. You have to keep fighting.

"But I'm sure both teams want to win."

Director says Fulham are interested in his £15m star, but January exit won't happen

Fulham are interested in signing Siriki Dembele and have scouted the League One forward five times, Peterborough United's director of football Barry Fry told Peterborough Today.

Yet it seems the Cottagers will not be making a move for the skillful 24-year-old before the transfer deadline.

Peterborough are in the midst of a gruelling promotion battle and, with so little time to bring in a replacement, Dembele will be staying put until the end of 2020/21.

That is according to Fry, the outspoken director who has made it clear on multiple occasions that Posh are 'not interested' in selling their star players in the winter.

"Fulham have watched Siriki five times. (Cottagers scout) Brian (Talbot) was at the game on Saturday and he sent me a message after the game to say they wouldn't be making an offer during the current transfer window," Fry said after the 1-0 victory over Ipswich Town.

"That's not to say they won't be back in the summer when clubs' finances are clearer.

"There is no money about right now and certainly not enough for us to part with Siriki.

"It's getting too late in the window now anyway. We wouldn't have time to get a replacement."

Peterborough chairman Darragh MacAnthony recently suggested that it would take a fee of around £15 million to sign arguably the most technically gifted player in League One.

Dembele handed in a transfer request in an attempt to force a move away from London Road, although it seems there is an acceptance now that a big-money move will be placed on the backburner until the summer.

Wolves, Celtic, Newcastle United, Derby County and more have also been linked with the former Grimsby Town schemer.

'I had depression, anxiety, all that trauma... leaving Fulham nearly killed me'
Max Noble wants to speak up for all the young footballers sold an impossible dream – and reveal the devastating consequences for those who don't make it

It has taken Max Noble more than a decade to find the courage to share the stories he is about to tell.

To recall publicly how he went from the brilliantly promising winger at Fulham and a Wales youth international to the 19-year-old hiding under the covers in bed crying, day after day, struggling with the anxiety and depression that he still manages now. To detail what led to him contemplating suicide.

Noble does not particularly want to recall these harrowing experiences, yet he is opening up because he knows of more than 150 former youth footballers who have experienced similar things, and wants something to change.

Multiple suicide attempts. At least one case of self-harm that has left a former academy player with scars up his arm. Many of them have confided in Noble even though they have not spoken to their closest family members or friends.

He has created an informal support group with 25 of them, with whom Noble has shared his own experiences: painkilling injections administered to children; bullying and racism; threats if he did not sign up with a recommended agent; Fulham's refusal to pay for a double knee operation shortly before they discarded him. And, in turn, "the boys", as Noble refers to them, share a little back: in messages, phone calls, voice notes.

So Noble wants to speak for them, to provide a glimpse into what it is like for young footballers sold an impossible dream, and the devastating consequences the game has refused to acknowledge.

Fulham have opened an investigation after i made them aware of Noble's allegations and insist they "condemn bullying, racism and discrimination in any form and work hard to ensure that they have no place here", adding that "the club will investigate the historic claims and liaise with all relevant parties".

And though it is hard to hear what happened to Noble, it is important that everyone listens and takes note, or what he describes as a form of "grooming" and "abuse" of desperate children will never stop. "This is football's biggest, best-kept secret," Noble says.

We already know of some cases where young footballers have been found dead shortly after being let go. Last year, Jeremy Wisten was found in his bedroom and a coroner's inquest has called for Manchester City to explain the support they provided him before and after he was told the club no longer wanted him. The year before, another promising young player, who had a trial at Manchester United, took his own life after struggling with injuries.

How many more young men have attempted suicide as a consequence of their treatment by football clubs who spend years building them up then cast them aside as though they are worthless? How many more are left to deal with severe anxiety and depression alone, like Noble? The true extent of the problem is unknown. Perhaps the most tragic thing is that no one in football cares enough to find out.

The former players Noble, who was raised in south London, speaks to span only Fulham and Crystal Palace. But he suspects there are many more out there, with similar stories of similar struggles. When recently he produced an online video – Chasing Shadows – articulating the issues young footballers face, he received more than 150 messages from former academy players explaining that they had been through it. Many thought they were the only ones.

Noble's goal is simple and focused: if football clubs take boys out of school, they owe them a duty of care when they let them go. And it will happen to most of them: 98 per cent of 16 to 18 year olds who sign youth scholarships are released, or drop out of the game entirely, by 21.

After instilling false hope in the 98 per cent, damaging their education, denying them life experiences, after paying them only around £400 per month, what care do clubs provide when they let them go?

"The only thing I want to change," Noble explains, "is if you take a boy out of school you owe him aftercare. That's it. You can't promise them the world, then ignore them when they're depressed, or they're going through what I had to go through. I wouldn't wish that on anyone. The academy system is failing, you can see just by the numbers, it's completely failing."

The system failed Noble in so many ways.

He was always a gifted footballer. From first kicking a ball with his dad, Mike, at the local park aged seven, to Wimbledon's academy at eight. Wimbledon soon handed him a four-year contract.

But his knees showed signs of trouble aged 12, when he was diagnosed with Osgood-Schlatter disease – intense pain when the kneecap is not fully developed and placed under too much pressure. Sometimes, he would walk up stairs and his legs would buckle underneath him.

He could not play for a year and when Wimbledon relocated to Milton Keynes it could have proved problematic, but Noble was so good that Fulham paid a small fee to sign him.

Still knee issues persisted and at 15, while away with Wales, he snapped his medial collateral ligament. When fit, he was great. Under manager Chris Coleman, when Fulham were an established Premier League side with players such as Danny Murphy and Jimmy Bullard, he would train often with the first team.

The club offered him a scholarship a year early, and convinced him to leave school before he had taken his GCSEs, with the promise of a professional contract three years later.

He was advised that an operation was not needed to fix the pain in his knees – he was young, it would heal – but medical staff started administering painkilling injections before training and matches. He was still a child. He went along with it: he just wanted to make it, remember, they all do.

"I would love to speak to some of these people and ask: Do you think that was acceptable?" he says. "I know boys who used to play with six strappings on their legs, for both knees, ankles. How can you look at a boy and say go out and train or play but let me just tape you up so you're basically stuck together? There's no care at all within the sport, especially at academy level, because there's no light shone on it."

Then he became aware of the threats and bullying. Young players are unable to sign with an agent until the year they turn 16. Shortly before then, a senior Fulham staff member told Noble he was not allowed an agent but that if he got one it had to be their recommendation.

Noble was stunned. Sure enough, he soon received offers of representation. He was threatened again. Noble explained he did not feel comfortable with that. He was training with the first team and was warned he would be dragged down to the youth team, or not play at all.

"As a young boy I didn't think it could be true. For the next eight weeks I didn't kick a ball. I wasn't allowed to train, I wasn't allowed to play."

The staff member is no longer at Fulham but is still working in football. "That's even more harrowing for me," Noble says. "I have a friend who's an agent who comes across him sometimes and went through the same thing as me. He says it brings so much trauma back for him when he has to deal with him.

"I couldn't for the longest time comprehend that there is a man like that in charge of looking after children. That's your job, to look after children, not threaten them, not abuse them."

'It's a horrible environment to be in'
It gets worse. "We lost three or four games in a row and they said all of us had bad attitudes. The only ones that could train turned out to be the white guys. We had eight black boys in our team, the black boys in the afternoon would have to sit in the changing room while the three or four white guys would go out and train with the reserves.

"They wouldn't allow us to have lunch in the canteen, so made us sit in this dirty changing room after everyone had used it. There was mud everywhere and they would just put sandwiches on a tray on the floor for us to eat. That happened for two months.

"Who do you complain to when something like that happens? Who do you tell that story to? The people you tell that story to are the people who're doing it."

Noble turned to his dad, who called the club and tried to complain. "They said it's a punishment for them. It's bullying – complete bullying. It's a horrible environment to be in where you're scared. I would tremble in the toilet. If I saw him walking down the hall I'd not want to pass him, see him, because he's going to make me feel as if I've done something wrong."

Noble persisted, kept on trying, training, working hard, doing what he was told, playing through the pain. Yet as the promised professional contract loomed within reach, he was informed he had severe tendonitis in both knees and required double knee surgery. Noble believes the injuries were "due to all these injections and painkillers they'd been giving me".

'Get lost, you're not good enough'
What happened next was devastating: Fulham refused to pay for the treatment, explaining that he was coming to the end of his scholarship deal and would not receive a new one. "I had to pay for my own surgery and rehab. I didn't even receive a phone call from them to see how I was getting on. No psychological help. No aftercare at all. No job opportunities, no internships, no courses. It's like they just say to you: Get lost, you're not good enough, see you later. I was 18. I had my double knee surgery at Parkside Hospital three days before my 19th birthday."

Noble reached the lowest ebb of his life. He was no longer 'the footballer'. He was a teenager with no qualifications and two shot knees. He had given everything – everything – to football and was cast aside like he was nothing. That is when he sought to block out the world with his duvet.

"I had depression, anxiety, all that trauma, it nearly killed me. I got so depressed. I became such a recluse, I didn't want to talk to any of my friends. I wasn't as close to my school friends because they were going out, to the cinema, for drinks and parties and socialising, going on holiday together. And I just couldn't do that, I had to be in bed at 10pm, I had football at 8am, I had to do all the things they tell you to do. So I didn't have a social life outside of football to turn to.

'I don't want to be here any more'
"While all these guys were going travelling, going to uni, getting qualifications, getting jobs, becoming young men, I was in my bed thinking: I've failed, I'm a loser. That was the lowest point in my life where I thought: Actually I don't want to be here any more. I've let my dad down, I've let my whole family down, I've embarrassed everyone. My identity was gone."

Noble went for low-paid jobs but kept being told he had no experience or qualifications, so he signed on for Jobseekers' Allowance. Yet Noble was not as alone as he thought.

"As I got older and became even more of a recluse I started seeing it happening to my friends. I would see my football friends, people I'd been with every day for years, go through the same things. I've got two friends that tried to commit suicide from it. I've got another friend who has self-harmed and has scars all the way up his arms."

Noble has five friends who ended up in prison. Abandoned by a game that took each of their young lives and squeezed until there was nothing left. No work experience, no qualifications, sometimes with a young family to feed. "They were the nicest boys you can meet," he says. "They were backed into a corner."

These are the stories football doesn't want you to hear and the academy system hides behind their silence: protected by the simple fact that young footballers who have spent their entire lives in an environment of toxic masculinity will not discuss what rejection did to them.

"Imagine from eight years old, you're promised and sold this dream. As I've got older I've understood it's grooming. People don't like that word because it sounds sexual. But for an adult to lie to children, to groom them into something and then all of a sudden sweep the rug from under their feet and then say: It's your fault you didn't make it, you didn't work hard enough, you didn't listen, you didn't stay out on the training ground long enough, or get in early enough. It's always an excuse that is used by the abuser: blame the victim. It's an abuse scandal.

"I've learnt about toxic masculinity, it almost works as the perfect storm: these boys were abused, they were groomed, but they're not going to talk about it because they're so embarrassed, they're not going to be able to come forward because as an industry we're told they gave us an opportunity, it's our fault. Players aren't going to delve deeper because of this toxic masculinity that especially affects young men who think: I'm not going to admit that happened to me."

Noble has never got over it. He still suffers from severe panic attacks, can still at random break out into hot sweats or uncontrollable shaking. "It's only as I've got older I've learnt if I feel a certain way I need to speak about it. I'm traumatised.

"When you have a sport with so much money there can't be the case that they don't know what's happened to these boys after they're released. Not a phone call, not a 'How are you getting on?' or 'We managed to get you an internship or a course'. It's absolutely nothing. That's not acceptable. I don't want to fight the PFA or the FA, I'd just like them to admit this is happening and do something about it."

Noble is doing something about it. He started rebuilding his life several years later, by chance handed a leaflet in the street about internships at Burberry and landed a job in product development. Now he has created a sportswear brand – Certified Sports – and £1 of every sale is donated to charities supporting ex-athletes with mental health problems.

"This is my story and this is how it starts for me, but as soon as I can say this is dealt with and there's an aftercare system in place for ex-academy players then we can move on to something else."

Fulham launch investigation into allegations of bullying, racism and threatening behaviour in academy
Former youth player Max Noble tells i how his experiences left him suffering severe anxiety and depression, and considering suicide

Fulham have opened an investigation into allegations of racism, bullying and threatening behaviour at their academy after i made the Premier League club aware of the claims by one of its former youth players.

Max Noble tells i in an interview today how his harrowing experiences led to him suffering severe anxiety and depression, and considering suicide.

Noble alleges that he experienced abuse and threats that if he did not sign with a recommended agent he would not play. He also says he was administered painkilling injections as a child to play and train, and that when he required a double knee operation shortly before his scholarship deal ended the club refused to pay for it, telling him he was not receiving a new contract.

"I had depression, anxiety, all that trauma, it nearly killed me," Noble says. "I got so depressed. I became such a recluse." He adds: "I was in my bed thinking: I've failed, I'm a loser. That was the lowest point in my life where I thought: Actually I don't want to be here any more. I've let my dad down, I've left my whole family down, I've embarrassed everyone. My identity was gone."

The former Wales youth international is in touch with 25 former Premier League academy players who have been through similar issues, some of whom have attempted suicide and self-harmed.

After producing and releasing an online video depicting the struggles faced by academy footballers, Noble was contacted by around 150 other former academy players who said they had faced similar issues. He calls for football clubs to have to provide a duty of care to players who they deem good enough to remove from their traditional school routine but eventually release.

"The only thing I want to change," Noble says, "is if you take a boy out of school you owe him aftercare. That's it. You can't promise them the world, then ignore them when they're depressed, or they're going through what I had to go through. I wouldn't wish that on anyone."

After being made aware of Noble's allegations, Fulham vowed to investigate them fully. "Fulham Football Club has been made aware of the allegations," the club said in a statement released to i. "We condemn bullying, racism and discrimination in any form and work hard to ensure that they have no place here. The club will investigate the historic claims and liaise with all relevant parties."

Fulham transfer stance revealed as Nottingham Forest, Celtic circle around EFL player

Fulham have watched Peterborough United forward Siriki Dembele in action five times this season, but won't be making a bid for the 24-year-old this month.

Dembele is a player attracting plenty of interest at the moment, with Fulham, Sheffield United, Nottingham Forest and Celtic among those to be linked with his signature.

The 24-year-old has scored five goals in 20 League One outings this season, chipping in with seven assists for Darren Ferguson's side.

Barry Fry has told the Peterborough Telegraph that Fulham have watched Dembele in action on five occasions this season.

Fulham chief scout Brian Talbot was at Portman Road on Saturday, as Dembele impressed in Peterborough's 1-0 win at Ipswich Town.

But the Cottagers, who are fighting for their lives to stay in the Premier League, aren't set to make a bid for the player before next week's transfer deadline.

He said: "Fulham have watched Siriki five times. Brian was at the game on Saturday and he sent me a message after the game to say they wouldn't be making an offer during the current transfer window.

"That's not to say they won't be back in the summer when clubs' finances are clearer."

The Verdict

I think this is the right decision.

Fulham need someone who can come in and make an immediate impact, and I don't think Dembele is ready for that just yet.

He needs to make the step up from League One soon, but only if he is going to play regularly.

It will be interesting to see whether his brother, Karamoko, being at Celtic influences any decision going forward.

Albion fifth in expected goals table as they face Fulham

Albion are fifth in the alternative Premier League table.

And it looks Fulham boss Scott Parker has noticed.

The Cottagers visit the Amex tomorrow as 17th plays 18th.

But Opta's latest table, using the expected goals formula, shows the Seagulls should be fifth – on 34 points rather than their actual 17.

The 12-place difference is easily the biggest such shortfall among the 20 clubs.

Opta believe Chelsea and Sheffield United should each be six places higher.

Southampton drop to 16th under xG while Wolves are in the relegation zone.

That all suggests Albion are not getting the points they should from the chances they create and allow.

Parker said today: "I've watched them when preparing for games but I've not watched loads.

"I think they are a lovely footballing side with real structure about the way they play.

"Like anything, there's always the next thing to improve and looking this morning at goal expectancy - you see the fine margins."

Parker's own team should be three places higher according to the xG formula.

They have troubled Chelsea and Manchester United recently without getting any reward.

Parker said: "I feel I have a team that can win two or three games in a row.

"We've played seven of the biggest teams in the division and performed well. We need to take this next step and get some results."

Parker upbeat ahead of vital game at Brighton

Fulham will face Brighton in the proverbial six-pointer with no new injury concerns but a raft of tired bodies, according to Scott Parker.

It will be the Whites' fifth game in two weeks and follows the disappointment of a comprehensive 3-0 FA Cup exit to Burnley on Sunday.

But the head coach is trying to play down the importance of the game.

He said: "I don't think this game is the be-all and end-all.

"There are still 20 games to go and I think we're capable of winning two or three games on the bounce, and it's not me being deluded.

"We've had setbacks and we've just played seven of the nine top teams.

"Now we've got matches against those in and around us, and as a group we've always managed to refocus when results haven't gone our way."

Parker confirmed the imminent loan of Stefan Johansen to QPR and refused to rule out a loan move for Neeskens Kebano as well when asked if the winger might also leave.

Parker said: "It's no secret are squad is a big one and if there is the option for players to go and get football, we'll look at it."

Terence Kongolo and Tom Cairney remain sidelined, while defender Antonee Robinson will miss the final game of his three-match suspension.

Scott Parker: Fulham will find signings in final week of transfer window 'difficult'

Scott Parker has accepted that it is going to be "difficult" for Fulham to add any new players before Monday's transfer deadline.

The Fulham boss started the window calling for early arrivals to aid the club's fight against relegation, with a striker top of the list for new recruits.

Aleksandar Mitrovic has been in desperate form this season, while Ivan Cavaliero has struggled when it comes to finishing in his place.

However, with a bloated squad that Fulham are struggling to cut down, Parker admits new faces are unlikely.

"It is going to be difficult for us to be honest," said Parker.

"We understand where we need to improve, we're a team that have just come up from the Championship and the void to the teams who are established is huge.

"You need to try and be competitive, need to evolve and bring players in. At the same time the balance of expenditure and a realism of where you are is needed.

"At this moment in time it is going to be a challenge for us. If that is the case I understand and we all understand the situation."

One of the fringe players who will move on, however, is Stefan Johansen. The midfielder, left out of the Premier League squad this season, is set to cross west London to join Queens Park Rangers.

"Stefan will go there to play some games and get some football. I am expecting that to go through," added Parker.

"It is clear that the squad is quite big in terms of numbers. There is the option to some to go and get some game time."

Fulham open investigation into academy allegations

A former Fulham youth player has spoken of his experiences at the club's academy

Fulham are investigating historical allegations of racism, bullying and threatening behaviour at their academy.

It follows claims made by former youth player Max Noble, 31, in an interview with the i newspaper.

"We condemn bullying, racism and discrimination in any form and work hard to ensure that they have no place here," the Premier League club said.

"The club will investigate the historic claims and liaise with all relevant parties."

Noble claims his experiences as an academy player led him to consider suicide.

Among the allegations, the former Wales youth international said he was told he would be dropped if he did not sign with a particular agent, and also claimed white players were afforded preferential treatment.

After producing a video called 'Chasing Shadows' about his experiences, Noble said he received messages from 150 former academy players who had gone through the same things.

Johansen joins QPR on loan

Fulham midfielder Stefan Johansen has joined Queens Park Rangers on loan for the remainder of the season.

The Norwegian international has not made a single first-team appearance this season having been left out of Scott Parker's 25-man Premier League squad after the Whites had strengthened their midfield in the summer. Johansen had been vocal about his desire to play regular football and, having turned down approaches from Blackburn and Bristol City, has opted to make a short-term switch across west London.

The popular midfielder, a key part of Fulham's two promotions from the Championship, has made 136 appearances and scored 21 goals since moving to Craven Cottage from Celtic for £2.5m in 2016. He will offer experience and energy to Mark Warburton's midfield after Rangers lost the services of former Tottenham midfielder Tom Carroll, who is likely to miss three months after having surgery on an injured knee.

Johansen, who previously helped West Brom to the Championship play-offs when he was sent on loan to the Hawthorns in 2019, still has a further year to run on his Fulham contract. It is understood that there is no option to buy included within this loan deal.

Signings 'are going to be difficult,' says Parker

Scott Parker struck a pessimistic note on the possibility of any Fulham signings before the end of the January transfer window, telling his pre-match press conference that it is 'going to be difficult' to get new players in.

The Fulham boss has principally targeted a new addition up front, having had to rely on Ivan Cavaleiro as a makeshift forward with Serbian striker Aleksandar Mitrovic struggling for form and fitness of late. Ahead of a critical double header against relegation rivals Brighton and West Bromwich Albion, Parker admitted Fulham were finding it hard to secure a new arrival:

It is going to be difficult for us to be honest. We understand where we need to improve, we're a team that have just come up from the Championship and the void to the teams who are established is huge. You need to try and be competitive, need to evolve and bring players in. At the same time the balance of expenditure and a realism of where you are is needed.

At this moment in time it is going to be a challenge for us. If that is the case I understand and we all understand the situation. I have a group here who have improved drastically. If we continue to do that we will give ourselves a chance.

One of Fulham's major problems is the huge nature of their first-team squad. Parker confirmed that Stefan Johansen is expected to join Queens Park Rangers on loan, but wouldn't be drawn on whether Jean-Michael Seri or Neeskens Kebano – both rumoured to be targets of other sides – will also be leaving before the deadline.

"Stefan will go there to play some games and get some football. I am expecting that to go through. Where we are in terms of players coming in, I'm not going to be brought into who exactly is going to go out. It is clear that the squad is quite big in terms of numbers. There is the option to some to go and get some game time. We'll decide that in coming days."

Parker recognises the importance of Wednesday's trip to Brighton, who sit directly above Fulham in the Premier League table, but is refusing to characterise it as a must-win match.

"They are big. But I don't think they are the be all and end all. There are still a lot of games, I feel we have a team here who can win two or three back to back. That's the way I feel. We all understand these are big games. understand that it is a big game. The reason it's a big game is because of where the two teams in the division. The longer the season goes on it becomes more intense. We're halfway through, do I see this is the be all and end all and our fate is done? No I don't."

Fulham's Johansen completes loan move to QPR

Fulham midfielder Stefan Johansen has completed his loan move to QPR.

Rangers stepped up their interest in Johansen following Tom Carroll's injury and have agreed a deal to take him to W12 for the rest of the season.

The Norway international, who recently turned 30, has been out of the first-team picture at Fulham for some time.

Johansen has not made a league appearance this season and is keen to play first-team football.

He is under contract at Craven Cottage until 2022.

"Obviously I am very excited," Johansen told Rangers' website.

"QPR is a traditional club. English football is huge back home in Norway, and we have always heard about QPR as a big club.

"I have come here to play football but I want to win games. I watched a little bit of the game against Derby and, with the way the team is playing, you deserve more points."

QPR have been looking to bring in an experienced central midfielder, having already agreed loan deals for striker Charlie Austin and centre-back Jordy de Wijs.

The club's need to make a signing increased after Carroll was ruled out for three months following knee surgery.

Scott Parker insists Brighton, West Brom games are not season-defining

Fulham boss Scott Parker insists their upcoming matches against fellow strugglers Brighton and West Brom will not define their season.

Third-bottom Fulham travel to Brighton, who lie one place and five points above them, on Wednesday night before a trip to West Brom, a point and a place below them, three days later.

The Cottagers recently drew against Liverpool and Tottenham, amid a run of five consecutive draws, and now need to start turning one point into three against the sides around them.

But Parker has been in relegation battles before as a player and knows the damage that piling too much pressure on single matches can do.

"I think they are big matches but I don't think they are the be all and end all," he said.

"We are halfway through a season. They are big because of where both teams are in and around the division but there are still a lot of games.

"As a team we are improving, we have developed. I feel I have a team here who can win two or three games back to back.

"We've had a few draws but that's the way I feel, and when you have that feeling and you are where we are in the table that can be massive.

"We've played some of the biggest teams and done pretty well. Now we need to take the next step against the teams in and around us.

"But do I see this game as if we don't get a result our fate is done? No I don't. That's what nearly sends people down.

"What you see a lot of the time is players focusing on the negative. In the end it paralyses them, they can't really perform. You die too early. There's half a season left.

"Do I believe in this team? Do I believe we can win two or three on the bounce? 100 per cent."

Parker confirmed he expects out-of-favour midfielder Stefan Johansen to complete his move to Championship QPR before the window closes.

Pre-Brighton Press Conference

While acknowledging the importance of Fulham's fixtures this week, Scott Parker says the results will not make or break our season.

The Whites travel to the sides immediately above and below us in the table; Brighton & Hove Albion on Wednesday before tackling West Bromwich Albion at the weekend.

When asked in his pre-match press conference if the next two matches would be 'pivotal' for the Club, he replied: "I think they're big, I don't think they're the be all and end all. We're halfway through a season here.

"Of course they're big because of where both teams are in the division and where our competition will probably be this year, but I don't think they're the be all and end all as there's still a lot of games.

"I still feel as a team we're improving and we've developed, I feel like I have a team here that can go and win two, three games back-to-back. You may think that's mad to say that because we've won two all year, but that's the way I feel.

"We all understand these are big games coming up for us. We've come out of a run of fixtures over the last nine games where we've played seven of the biggest teams in the division, the toughest teams, and we've done pretty well.

"We need to take this next step which are games against teams in and around us, and we need to try and get some results.

"We've shown that we can compete in this division. We do need to turn these draws and some of these losses into wins, we understand that. Hopefully we can do that against Brighton, West Brom, Leicester at home, the teams we've got coming up."

Victory at the Amex Stadium in midweek would move us to within two points of Brighton, with a game in hand, but Parker believes Graham Potter's team are perhaps in a false position in the standings.

"They're a good side," he said. "They probably shouldn't be where they are, because I think Graham's done a fantastic job with the team.

"They have individuals in their team who have been operating in the Premier League now for some time, hence the quality they have in their squad.

"They're a very, very good footballing side, a lovely footballing side that can cause you real problems.

"They've got a real structure about them in the way they play, their specific movements. They're a very well-coached team."

Stefan Johansen: Fulham midfielder joins QPR on loan

Stefan Johansen joined Fulham from Scottish club Celtic in the summer of 2016

Championship club Queens Park Rangers have signed Fulham midfielder Stefan Johansen on loan until the end of the current season.

The 30-year-old Norway international has only featured twice for the Whites this season, with both his appearances in the EFL Cup.

Johansen played 36 times for Fulham in 2019-20 as the Craven Cottage outfit were promoted to the Premier League.

He is QPR's third signing of the January transfer window.

"Stefan has evident quality and experience on both the domestic and international stage," Rangers boss Mark Warburton told the club website.

"He is a player who has shown he can play in a deeper-lying midfield role or in a more attacking position. That flexibility he has is vital for us."

Brighton Matchday Preview

Brighton & Hove Albion v Fulham | Wednesday 27th January 2021 | 7.30pm | Amex Stadium | #BHAFUL
The opposition

Brighton booked their place in the Fifth Round of the Emirates FA Cup on Saturday with a 2-1 victory over Blackpool at the Amex. Graham Potter named a strong side and was rewarded with a screamer from Yves Bissouma and a fortuitous Steven Alzate goal.
They were also victorious in the previous Premier League outing, with Neal Maupay's early strike earning them all three points at Leeds United, ending a run of nine league matches without a win.
The battle at the bottom of the table could look very different come 9.30pm depending on what happens in Falmer. Victory for the hosts would move them eight points clear of us, but if Scott Parker's men prevail then we would sit just two points behind the Seagulls, with a game in hand.

Brighton team news

Albion have been boosted by the return to training of Adam Lallana and Aaron Connolly, with the attacking duo expected to be named amongst the substitutes on Wednesday. Tariq Lamptey, Danny Welbeck and Alireza Jahanbakhsh all remain out, though.

Fulham team news

Tom Cairney and Terence Kongolo are still sidelined, while Antonee Robinson serves the final game of his ban.

Coverage

The match will be broadcast live on BT Sport, while commentary from Gentleman Jim and Jamie Reid is available for FFCtv subscribers.

Player insight

Kenny Tete is expecting a proper fight on the south coast between two sides in real need of wins.

Speaking to FFCtv, the Dutchman said: "I think it will be a hard game, a tough game for us. They need points, we need points, so it is going to be a battle.

"I think our defence is really solid and we have to keep improving that. We need to get some goals – we are working on that and I believe in this team."

Form

Brighton: DD*LWW

*Won on penalties

West Ham, Fulham and Newcastle all in tussle to sign same player

Over the past few weeks, Spezia striker M'Bala Nzola has been linked to several English sides, including the likes of Leeds United, Newcastle United and West Ham.

Even though the January transfer window is now coming to an end and the 24-year-old doesn't seem to be going anywhere, a new list of pretenders is mentioned by the Italian media today.

This time it's journalist Armando Napoletano who on Calcio Napoli 24 Live (via Napoli Magazine) said Fulham joined Newcastle and West Ham in the race for Nzola.

He claims that Spezia's squad should have many changes in the summer, as several players are drawing the interest from other clubs and are about to end up leaving the Serie A side.

The journalist, however, doesn't bring any details on how far Fulham, Newcastle or West Ham would go for the signing, or how much Spezia would demand for the move.

That's actually something that's been repeated in all Nzola rumours this month. Despite many reports of interest in the player, there's no information on how much he'd cost, while he's currently valued by Transfermarkt at only €4m and should certainly leave Italy for more than that.

How should Fulham line up at Brighton?

With one of the season's most important games coming tomorrow evening at the AMEX Stadium, how should Fulham line-up to try and close the gap to Brighton and Hove Albion, one of our fellow relegation rivals?

Since Scott Parker first switched to a back five against Leicester, Fulham have seen an upturn in form, picking up eight points in nine Premier League games. This includes the Leicester win as well as draws against Liverpool and Tottenham, with some asking how we were unable to take three against them! The Whites have also given teams such as Manchester United and Manchester City a run for their money, putting in solid performances to be proud of. The team seems to have come a long way since Paddy Power paid out on Fulham's relegation after just three games.

However, Fulham have also faced criticism whilst using this formation as they are seemingly unable to complete the job against relegation rivals, such as Brighton and Newcastle, taking just two points from the crucial games. What the 5-2-3 formation brings in defensive stability, it lacks in creativity.

When we play against bottom and mid table teams, the general feeling is that we are too cautious. The back 5 means that we lose the creative role that we have seen Cairney and Loftus-Cheek operate in at times over the season. The fast paced, fluid counterattacking style that has been implemented recently is perfect against the top teams who generally prefer to keep possession, winning the ball and quickly exploiting the space that they leave behind.

However, against the rest of the division, we should be looking for a win more proactively, controlling more of the ball. We should do this by adding an element of creativity into the side, switching to a 'plan B' four at the back formation that attempts to retain defensive stability whilst utilising possession better and disrupting their back line.

Therefore, assuming Parker's pre-match assertion that "no new injury concerns have come out of the recent fixtures" is accurate, my line-up would utilise a full squad, minus the injured pair of Cairney and Kongolo or the suspended Robinson. However, it is worth noting that we are likely to see heavy rotation given the squad have just come back from the COVID outbreak, greeted with a congested fixture list against some of the league's strongest teams, to which Parker said, "we are trying to repair the tired bodies".

So, as Fulham prepare to play Brighton for the second time this season, what should the line-up be? This is mine:

This starting eleven would deploy Mitrovic to disrupt the strong Brighton back line with his size and strength whilst allowing him to knock balls onto the more mobile Loftus-Cheek, who would be operating as a False 9. Lookman and Decordova-Reid would operate as inverted wingers, crossing the ball into Mitrovic and crowding the box, whilst Loftus-Cheek waits on the edge of the box for any second balls.

They would also add an element of pace to the forward line, meaning that if Fulham shouldn't squander counterattacking opportunities, as Lookman, Decordova-Reid and Loftus-Cheek can rush forward on the attack. They could also rotate positions across this frontline, similar to Liverpool's attacking line.

I believe that this tactic would find a suitable role for Mitrovic – despite his confidence, form and fitness worries – who prospered against Leeds United with Onomah behind him and fast wingers on either side. This would dispel the argument that 'the system no longer suits Mitrovic with its fast pace', bringing the best of both worlds. Mitrovic may be able to battle Brighton's big and strong defenders physically, that includes the 6'4″ Lewis Dunk, 6'3″ Adam Webster and a very familiar Dan Burn, who stands at a mighty 6'7″. Whilst Mitrovic could battle them physically, the inverted wingers may be able to exploit their lack of pace, creating the best of both worlds.

The midfield double-pivot of Anguissa with a box-to-box midfielder pairing with either Reed or Lemina would remain unchanged. This has been something of a strong point so far this season, with Anguissa's physical and technical ability shining through as he wins the ball and makes runs from deep. Anguissa will also come up against Yves Bissouma, a player who he has drawn many comparisons to with a similar physicality and style playing a role best described as a 'segundo volante'. Whilst Anguissa narrowly beats Bissouma on stats, this game is the perfect opportunity to compare them once again.

Finally, the back line would remain fairly unchanged, despite having one less man, with Aina simply being shifted onto the left from the middle. Aina has been deployed on the left side before, by Torino, either as a winger or wing-back, and offers a more defensively sound option than the beloved Joe Bryan, who often leaves large pockets of spaces for teams to attack into. This is crucial to try and eliminate as Brighton's Tariq Lamptey will likely bomb down our left hand side and cause us great defensive trouble.

Unfortunately, this line-up is unlikely, due to likely-heavy rotation as well as some tactical stubbornness shown against smaller teams. However, it would certainly make a nice 'plan B' and one with which we could play with some more possession and dominate the game. It certainly would be nice to see Mitrovic fit back into the side somehow and find his feet.

What do you think?

Antonee Robinson serves the final game of a ban, while Tom Cairney and Terence Kongolo are still sidelined.

LAWRO'S PREDICTION
This is a big game at the bottom of the table because a Brighton win would open up a bit of distance between them and Fulham in the bottom three.

I am going to back Brighton to take the points too. Fulham have been playing well without winning in recent weeks, while Brighton did not just beat Leeds in their previous league game - they more than matched them in every department and got the job done.

Prediction: 2-0

Parker understands reluctance to make more signings

Scott Parker would like money for new players but the Fulham boss is ready to be disappointed.

The Whites face a six-pointer against Brighton on Wednesday with no sign of new recruits over the next six days before the transfer window closes.

The club invested close to £110m the last time they were in the Premier League, in 2018-19, and got financially burned.

Relegation and a return to the top flight this season saw a more prudent outlay of around £10m, and the head coach agrees he's feeling the pinch.

"Do I believe that a little bit of investment could it help this team massively?" he said. "Yeah, I do. I can see that in the numbers.

"But I also understand the situation. It's a big commitment.

"The last time we were in this division, we spent a lot of money. The owners have spent an awful lot of money since their tenure at this club.

"That money we spent, we didn't stay in the division. So maybe there's a different avenue this time.

"We've not invested a lot of money into the squad. We've tried to bring players in on loan and I think we've done very, very well.

"The current state of affairs in terms of where the world is, it's always a decision to be made. Where we are in the division, I understand.

"If something happens between now and the window shutting who can help us, amazing. If not, we'll keep improving like we have done."

Fulham have found it hard to attract players willing to throw their weight behind a relegation fight.

Parker says he is ready to battle on with what he has, and insists the current squad can avoid the drop.

"This team has developed and done very well," he added.

"We're improving. Will that be enough at the end of the season? Who knows? It's going to be very difficult.

"Of course, it will always make it easier bringing in people who you know can help.

"But at the same time, I do believe in this squad of players gives me hope that we have a fighting chance in this division."

Scott Paker on Fulham transfer troubles and conversations with Tony Khan amid relegation battle

The Whites have looked desperate for a new attacking addition in recent months

Scott Parker has declared he understands Fulham's reluctance to spend big in their bid for Premier League survival. However, it doesn't sound like the possibility of a new signing has completely disappeared.

Speaking ahead of Fulham's six-point clash with Brighton, Parker conceded a move was unlikely at this stage. Nevertheless the former Newcastle and Tottenham star remains in conversation with Director of Football Tony Khan.

Parker is adamant that his side will improve regardless of any additions.

He said: "Constantly in diaglogue [with Tony Khan] trying to explain the situation and Tony sees that as well and Mr Khan. The Khan family have invested a lot of money in this football club and ultimately it is their perogative what they want to do and how much they are willing to do that. I understand and they understand the difficulty of staying in this division without evolving, without bringing in players which can improve us.

"At the same time we've got a chance. While it will be a tough season this year we'll keep working as hard as we can.

"If something happens between now and the window shutting who can help us, amazing, and they can help the players push on again. If not, we'll keep improving like we have."

With less than a week to the transfer window, Fulham enter a period where they often become active. They completed the signings of Joachim Andersen, Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Tosin Adarabioyo at the beginning of October, and in their last Premier League foray made five signings on deadline day in August 2019.

Sergio Rico, Joe Bryan, Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa, Timothy Fosu-Mensah and Luciano Vietto all arrived in the dying hours during a season where the Cottagers spent in the region of £100 million.

It's been clear there has been a different approach this time.

Parker noted: "The owners have spent an awful lot of money in their tenure at the football club. That money spent, we didn't stay in the division so maybe there's a different avenue this time around. We've not invested a lot of money into the squad, we've tried to bring players in on loan and done very well.

"The current state of affairs in terms of where the world is, is always a decision to be made, where we are in the division I understand.

"Do I believe a little bit of investment maybe could help this team massively? Yeah I do, I can see that in the numbers. I also understand the situation and how people may see it as well, it's a big commitment.

"Whatever the situation, this team has developed and done very well in the current situation. We're improving. Will that be enough at the end of the season? Who knows, it's going to be very difficult. Of course it will always make it easier, bringing in people who you know can help. At the same time I do believe in this squad of players and the improvement they've made over a short period of time gives us a chance in this division."

Fulham offer for Nzola rejected

Spezia have rejected Fulham's €12m (£10.6m) bid for striker Mbala Nzola, according to reports in France tonight.

The 24 year-old has scored nine goals in thirteen Serie A games during Spezia's first season in the Italian top flight and has been attracting interest from across Europe, including AC Milan and Lyon. Spezia apparently rejected Fulham's offer immediately and are hopeful of holding onto the Troyes-born forward until the end of the season. It had been rumoured in the Italian press that the Little Eagles might entertain a sale should a suitor bid around €15m (£13.28m) for Nzola, who has made a significant impression in his first few months amongst the Italian footballing elite.

Fulham, who are desperate to sign a striker before the end of the transfer window, are not the only English club interested in acquiring Nzola. West Ham are closely monitoring developments as they seek a replacement for Sebastien Hellar to provide cover for Michail Antonio. Newcastle and Leeds have also been credited with interest in the powerful striker. Nzola, who can also play wide on the left, scored seven goals in 21 appearances as Spezia won promotion from Serie B last season but has recently been sidelined with a hamstring injury.

A changing of the guard

Stefan Johansen's departure on loan for Queens Park Rangers wasn't the most unexpected news of the January transfer window. The experienced Norwegian midfielder's loan move to Shepherd's Bush ends a frustrating few months for one of Fulham's most likeable performers in recent years – after Johansen was omitted from the 25-man squad submitted to the Premier League at the start of the season and, having been only included in League Cup ties subsequently, it was telling that Scott Parker didn't pick him for the FA Cup trip to W12 last month.

In truth, Johansen struggled to make an impact after Fulham's last promotion ending that season on loan at West Brom once the Whites had brought in big money midfielders. But there can be no doubting the affection that he has held in at Craven Cottage. He made have endured a slow start to his Fulham career, taken off at half-time after an error-strewn debut against Blackburn, but his boundless energy, eye for a pass and hunger to win the ball back quickly established him as an indispensable part of Slavisa Jokanovic's first-choice midfield.

The understanding Johansen quickly forged with Scottish duo Kevin McDonald and Tom Cairney became integral to the way Jokanovic wanted to play football and the 'three musketeers' swiftly became one of the Championship's most eye-catching midfields. Johansen, whose penchant for a professional foul was remarkably never punished with a red card, was a reliable source of goals in his early years with the Whites, including a famous winner at Loftus Road on a memorable night in September 2017.

There are countless more iconic Johansen moments. We can't forget the brilliant finish at Burton that set Fulham on their way to a crucial midweek win when Jokanovic's side were finding the Brewers tough to break down, his goading of James Maddison in front of the away fans having opened the scoring in a vital victory at Carrow Road, the industrious running that was a key part of Fulham's fabulous victory at Huddersfield later that season and, of course, his contribution to the unforgettable play-off final win over Aston Villa – when those trademark lungbusting fans came in very handy after Denis Odoi's sending off.

Johansen wasn't quite as important during last year's run to the play-off final, playing in a slightly deeper role under Scott Parker and gradually being eclipsed by the likes of Harrison Reed and Josh Onomah. He still racked up 35 appearances – and when sent on late in a game, you knew exactly what he would provide. Johansen was arguably one of the main reasons that Fulham's record of never being beaten when taking the lead under Parker stood for so long.

It isn't difficult to see his departure – even it is just a temporary one at this point – as a more broader changing one of the guard. The key fixtures of Slavisa's side are gradually being ushered aside, if they haven't already left SW6. McDonald, another vital cog in that all-conquering side that went 23 games undefeated in 2018, has made just 31 appearances since the 2018 play-off final as injuries and acquisitions have hampered his hopes of regularly football. The press reports suggest that the Scot is free to find a new home but he remains a popular figure around Motspur Park and is currently taking his coaching badges.

Odoi, who announced himself at Craven Cottage with that glorious control off his back against Newcastle, has also found first-team football fairly infrequent of late. The Belgian utility defender, who wrote his name into Fulham folklore with that majestic header against Derby in the 2018 play-off semi-final, has seen five of his eight appearances this term come in the domestic Cup competitions. His versatility across the back line got him a place in the 25-man squad but it is difficult to see him making much of an impression on the first team after the success of Parker's back three, comprised entirely of summer arrivals.

Sunday showed that age might just be catching up with one of Fulham's finest recent servants in the form of Tim Ream. The American international, who has come back from being written before, was an ever-present under Parker last season but has made just eight appearances this term, with the jittery display against Burnley being the last of them. That performance shouldn't detract from Ream's remarkable consistency over the past few seasons after proving to Jokanovic, who was prepared to release him back in 2016, that he could be the very ball-playing defender the Serbian was seeking. His 207 appearances are a testament to just how reliable Ream has been as the backbone of two promotion-winning sides.

Johansen, McDonald, Odoi and Ream all have contracts which expire either at the end of this season or the end of the next – even if the club have options to extend those deals. There's not much for sentiment in modern football and it feels like a changing of the guard is imminent. Whilst the club must look to strengthen where it can to move forward, the affection held for these characters can't be expressed in mere numbers or brief words. They were all part of one of the most exciting Fulham sides in the club's history and, perhaps more impressively, dusted themselves down after being largely ignored during a season of dismal failure in the Premier League, and committed to returning the Whites to the top flight.

What are your fondest memories of these Fulham heroes?

Albion fans walk from Amex to Fulham in memory of friend

A GROUP of football fans have completed a charity walk from Falmer to Fulham in memory of their friend.

Alex Broadley, 39, from Worthing, took his own life on June 26, 2020 after suffering with depression.

His friend Russell Booty, alongside 15 of Alex's family and friends, trekked from the Amex Stadium in Falmer, Brighton to Fulham FC's home ground Craven Cottage to pay tribute and raise money for CALM (Campaign Against Living Miserably).

Alex Broadley was a lifelong fan of Fulham F.C.

The team set off on December 14, completing the 50-mile walk in just two days, to coincide with Albion's match against Fulham at Craven Cottage

Alex was a huge Fulham fan, while many of his friends are season ticket holders at Brighton and Hove Albion.

Despite the wet and windy weather conditions, everyone in the group completed the trekk, spurred on my Alex's memory.

Russell said: "There were so many different fitness levels amongst us and that first day was tough going because of the terrain.

Alex's brother Dan completed a 50-mile walk in Australia to support the fundraiser.

"I think it was about 30 miles we did on that first day in the end and there was quite a lot of injuries.

"A lot of us were thinking people were going to start dropping out but the next morning everyone was there, and everyone cracked on, which was pretty amazing really.

"We kept in our minds that no matter how hard it was going to be we needed to keep going and that was kind of the mantra of the whole thing."

Alex's brother Dan Broadley, who lives in Australia, walked the same distance from Bondi to Manly Beach, while wearing a Fulham shirt with his brother's name on the back.

The group left a Fulham scarf and a Falmer2Fulham fundraising shirt at the Amex.

The Falmer2Fulham fundraiser originally set out to raise £5,000, but the group have smashed their target and are now just shy of reaching a total of £18,000.

Russell said that he was "overwhelmed" by the support they received during their trek and how Alex's story has already made an impact.

He said: "We met lots of people along the way, just strangers who got talking to us and they then looked on our site and ended up donating.

"There was one particular person who we met quite late on the first day, he was on his own and he was just wondering what all of us were doing.

"About a week later he made a donation with a comment about how he was struggling and that it had been really nice to see us and speak to us all and hear about Alex.

"I think we helped him that day. We were all pleased we bumped into him."

As Albion prepare to take on Fulham in the Premier League this evening, Russell said the fixture always brings back happy memories of his friend.

He said: "It was always something that we would get in contact with each other about. It was a nice friendly rivalry so whenever that comes up, he'll be in our thoughts more so than normal."

Up next: Brighton and Hove Albion (a)

Fulham travel to the Amex Stadium tonight for one of those classical relegation six pointers. The meeting with Brighton and Hove Albion, despite the protestations of both managers, looks like the typical 'must win' fixture. A win on the south coast would put the Cottagers just two points behind Brighton having played a game less, but defeat would leave the Seagulls eight points clear of the drop zone and with plenty of breathing space going into the second half of the season. The stakes are exceptionally high.

Sunday's FA Cup capitulation to Burnley will still be fresh in the minds of Scott Parker, even if he did made eight changes for the fourth round tie ahead of what feels like a critical week in Fulham's season. Parker, who has talked all season about the need to not be deflated by defeats, will be aiming for an immediate response against Albion, who recorded an impressive win at Leeds in their last league outing. Former Brentford forward Neal Maupay's early strike was enough to earn Brighton's first league away win since mid-November. It is Brighton's form on the road that has been keeping them above water – Graham Potter's men having won in thirteen league attempts at the AMEX.

Whilst the results haven't been going Fulham's way of late, the 'progression' that Parker described in yesterday's pre-match press conference has been striking. Where earlier in the season, the Whites were comically vulnerable at the back, Parker's adoption of a three-man central defence has seen them become much more resolute. Narrow defeats at the hands of Chelsea and Manchester United – where Fulham could legitimately consider themselves unfortunate to have been on the losing side – are their only reverses in the last seven league encounters. The problem is now at the other end of the pitch – Fulham have only scored four goals in their last eight league matches, passing up countless glorious opportunities in the process.

Brighton will be definitely be without strikers Danny Welbeck and Florin Andone – meaning that Elland Road matchwinner Maupay is most likely to lead the line for Potter. Winger Alireza Jahanbaksh and Tariq Lamptey, so impressive at right wing-back to date this term, are both missing with hamstring problems. Potter could be able to call on former Liverpool and Southampton midfielder Adam Lallana, who has been missing with a groin complaint, and Republic of Ireland international forward Aaron Connolly, sidelined recently with a hamstring injury, although both are expected to start on the bench.

Fulham will have to do without first choice left back Antonee Robinson, who is serving the third and final game of his three match suspension after his sending off against Chelsea. Tom Cairney's knee problem and Terence Kongolo's latest injury setback see them on the sidelines, but Parker otherwise has a fully fit squad to pick from.

This game feels like a make-or-break match. Defeat could see the Whites could adrift below the relegation line and Parker's charges need to be ruthless, making the most of any chances that come their way against a very well-drilled defensive outfit. These are the sort of games that need to be won to mount a successful survival bid – and with wins at a premium this season – some of those impressive performances need to be translated into points on the board.

@ffcSeb's prediction– Brighton and Hove Albion 0-1 Fulham FC

Brighton & Hove Albion vs Fulham: 27/01/2021 – match preview and predicted starting XIs

Brighton and Hove Albion vs Fulham

Date: 27/01/2021

K/O: 19:30

Venue: Amex Stadium
Referee: Craig Pawson

TV: BT Sport

Seventeenth placed Seagulls take on eighteenth placed Fulham on Wednesday evening, as Scott Parker's side drift closer to relegation, with no wins from eight in the Premier League. The significance of this clash cannot be understated and could be labelled as a 'six-pointer', with the teams being next to each other in the league.

Last time out Brighton won 1-0 against Leeds, ending a winless streak of nine games. Neal Maupay scored the only goal of the game, finishing off a well-worked move and scoring his seventh of the season.

Fulham lost 2-1 against league leaders Manchester United last week. Ademola Lookman put Fulham ahead after only five minutes, but Edinson Cavani and Paul Pogba fought back to make it 2-1 and send the Cottagers even closer to relegation.

Despite their precarious position, Brighton have only lost two games from their last 10 – accumulating 11 points (W2, D5, L3). Their inconsistent form finds them only five points above the relegation zone and in with a chance of going down. To make matters worse, Fulham have a game in hand, which would reduce the gap to just two points.

Fulham's return to the Premier League hasn't been too kind to them. The Cottagers are second bottom, with only two wins and 15 goals scored. 40 points is usually considered safety from relegation and at the half-way point, Fulham have 12 points, which is nowhere near good enough.

In recent games, their performances have been better. Last week Parker's side challenged Man Utd in a tight 2-1 loss and the week before they lost 1-0 to Chelsea, in another closely contested game. Despite these back-to-back losses, they had drawn their previous three games and now have the second-highest amount of draws in the league (6), behind Liverpool (7).

Brighton's best player so far this season is arguably Neal Maupay. The French striker has seven goals and three assists to his name. Last season he scored 10 goals and looks likely to smash that record this year. He'll certainly be hoping for goals against a leaky Fulham defence.

Both teams match-up similarly in defensive – Brighton have two clean sheets, whilst Fulham have three. Wednesday's game will likely be won in midfield. It'll come down to who can control the game and create the most chances. With both teams having poor defensive records, it could become an end-to-end game, with both teams desperate for the win and the chance to move further/closer to their opponent.

The last time these two sides met it ended in a 0-0 stalemate. In fact, Brighton and Hove Albion are winless in their last three Premier League meetings with Fulham, losing once and drawing twice. A win for the visitors would be a huge step towards safety.

Team News

Brighton and Hove Albion

Graham Potter has a few injury decisions to make ahead of Wednesdays' clash. Tariq Lamptey has been out for a lengthy spell with a hamstring injury he picked up last time Albion faced Fulham, six games ago.

In midfield, Adam Lallana is in contention, but he might miss out due to a lack of match fitness. Alireza Jahanbakhsh has had a knock and won't feature on Wednesday. In attack, Danny Welbeck is still unavailable with a knock he picked up against West Ham. Aaron Connolly could play a part off the bench, as he is suffering from a lack of match fitness. This means Maupay will almost certainly start up top for the Seagulls.

Fulham

Defender Antonee Robinson is suspended after his red card challenge against Chelsea. Joe Bryan will likely take his place after he played the remaining minutes at Stamford Bridge and the full game against Man Utd. Long term absentee Tom Cairney hasn't featured in five games and is ruled out with a knee injury. Elsewhere the Cottagers are unscathed and could line-up identically to last week.

Predicted starting XIs

Brighton (4-3-1-2): Sanchez; Veltman, Dunk, Webster, Burn; Pröpper, White, Solly March; Alexis Mac Allister, Tau, Trossard

Fulham (3-4-3): Areola; Aina, Andersen, Tosin Adarabioyo; Reid, Zambo Anguissa, Reed, Bryan; Cavaleiro, Mitrovic, Lookman

Predicted Scoreline: Brighton 2-1 Fulham
The Seagulls looked great against Leeds last week and kept a clean sheet against a very attacking side. Fulham also looked good against Manchester United, but I'm backing the hosts to get the three points. I think if Brighton takes their chances they'll win comfortably.

Parker: Lookman still has a lot to learn

Ademola Lookman has found his feet at Fulham – but Scott Parker believes the winger has still got a lot to learn.

The former Everton youngster has caught the eye since arriving in the summer but Parker reckons the best is yet to come.

"He's still got a lot to learn, a lot to improve, but he's still a first-class player," said the Whites boss.

"Does he respond better to an arm around the shoulder than a kick than a kick up the backside? Yeah, he probably does.

"He's a very young footballer. He was at Everton where he didn't play a lot of football and then at Leipzig. He's just finding his feet again and for me he's certainly found them with us."

Parker dismissed any notion that Lookman's past two performances were missing something, even though he scored the opener against Manchester United in a 2-1 home defeat.

"I think he's been first class for us in difficult games," Parker explained.

"Against Chelsea with 10 men, and Man United who are top of the table, you're playing against quality players.

"You're going to be limited in terms of showing your quality.

"In saying that, with 10 men against Chelsea I thought he was first class, and against United he scored a goal. He's doing brilliant for us and everyone can see that.

"Everyone who understands the game can see the quality of the boy and what he can do for us."

Brighton & Hove Albion could have both Adam Lallana and Aaron Connolly available to face Fulham.

Wednesday's home match comes too soon for Tariq Lamptey (hamstring), Danny Welbeck (knee) and Alireza Jahanbakhsh (knock).

Scott Parker reports no fresh injury concerns for Fulham, who will be without the suspended Antonee Robinson, but welcome back Bobby De Cordova-Reid following his one-match ban.

Did you know?
Having beaten Leeds United last time out, Brighton & Hove Albion are looking to secure back-to-back Premier League victories for the first time since November 2019. However, their last five league wins have come away from home.

Brighton striker Neal Maupay has scored in each of his last three PL starts. The Frenchman last scored in four consecutive league starts in September 2018 with Brentford.

Fulham are unbeaten in their three PL meetings with Brighton (W1 D2).

Ademola Lookman has been involved in more PL goals than any other Fulham player this season, with three strikes and three assists. In his English league career, he's only been involved in more goals in 2016/17 with Charlton Athletic and Everton (six goals, two assists).

QPR capture the signature of midfielder Stefan Johansen on loan from Fulham

Stefan Johansen has joined QPR on loan from Fulham for the rest of the season.

The 30-year-old central midfielder will add a wealth of experience to Mark Warburton's side, having made more than 300 professional appearances in a career that has spanned his native Norway, Scotland and England.

Johansen, who captains his national side, featured regularly for Fulham as they won promotion from the Championship last term and now he is ready for a new challenge with QPR.

"Obviously I am very excited," he said after completing the move.

"QPR is a traditional club. English football is huge back home in Norway, and we have always heard about QPR as a big club."

Johansen says the opportunity to come and play was key for him.

"As a player you do not want to be on the bench or not playing," he said.

"I had a lot of conversations with the gaffer here and it was him who made me come here, the way he spoke about his style of play and how he is as a person.

"You want to play your best football and you need the right manager for that. I definitely feel I can play my best football under him."

Johansen's immediate personal target is clear.

"Obviously I have come here to play football but I want to win games," he said. "I watched a little bit of the game against Derby and with the way the team is playing, you deserve more points.

"We have to build that momentum."

Warburton is equally looking forward to working with Johansen, adding: "I am delighted we have been able to bring Stefan on board.

"He has evident quality and experience on both the domestic and international stage, and is a player who has shown he can play in a deeper-lying midfield role or in a more attacking position.

"That flexibility he has is vital for us, and I must thank Fulham for their help in making this happen."

Johansen has a reputation as a no-nonsense midfielder, but Warburton feels that can sometimes take away from the player's other capabilities.

"Stefan is a player that, as an opposition manager, you would be wary of because you know the ability he has and the threat he can pose," said the R's boss.

"I have seen him first hand both in Scotland and obviously with Fulham, so I know the talent he possesses."

In terms of Johansen's availability for selection, Warburton said: "I know Stefan has been working hard to keep himself fit.

"With our game against Watford being moved to Monday night it gives us extra time to work with him this week, see where he is and then we can make a decision from there."

Graham Potter says Albion v Fulham could be tight

Graham Potter believes Albion and Fulham could be in for another tense, tight contest.

The sides drew 0-0 at Craven Cottage in the run-up to Christmas.

They meet again at the Amex tonight (7.30pm, BT Sport).

Seagulls boss Potter said: "It was a tight game, a tough game. Could have gone either way in terms of they had a good chance.

"We had a couple of chances ourselves.

"I think a lot of what Fulham do was there, a lot of what we do was there.

"I think it just indicates it is going to be a tight game again."

Report: Fulham have £10.6m bid for West Ham target M'Bala Nzola rejected

Fulham have looked to steal a march on West Ham in the race to sign M'Bala Nzola, with Foot Mercato reporting that Scott Parker's men have had a bid for the striker rejected.

Nzola is one of the most in-form goalscorers in Europe right now. The 24-year-old has scored nine goals in 13 Serie A games for Spezia this season.

And his form is not going unnoticed. French outlet Foot Mercato has reported that West Ham are closely monitoring the Frenchman as David Moyes looks to sign another striker.

But it appears to be Fulham have made the first move. The report claims that the promoted side have made a bid of around £10.6 million for the forward.

However, it has been suggested that Spezia have turned down the offer. It appears that they are hoping to keep him for the rest of the season.

It remains to be seen if any of his admirers plan to make any further offers before the window closes.

West Ham are yet to bolster their attacking options since Sebastien Haller departed.

In fairness, Michail Antonio continues to impress. He has certainly taken a lot of the pressure off of the club.

It would still be a gamble to let the window close without signing another attacking player. But if West Ham enjoy a little luck, there is no reason why they cannot continue to thrive without further additions.

QPR so lucky to have Steffjo on loan, he never has a bad game and will without doubt do a good job for them.
He will be missed by us fans.
He will be remembered for what he did few years back, but to be honest he did have a few bad games.

Fulham must get results against rivals after impressing as underdogs, says Scott Parker

Scott Parker has told his Fulham squad to ensure their impressive performances against bigger sides don't count for nothing when they face relegation rivals this week.

The Cottagers have improved markedly over the last month or two, putting in big performances against Liverpool, Tottenham and Chelsea.

This week they face two relegation rivals, starting with Brighton tonight before visiting West Brom on Saturday. Parker's side sit five points from Brighton and safety with a game in hand.

While they've won much praise in running the big sides close, Parker knows this is the run which counts when it comes to beating the drop this season.

"One-million per cent, that is exactly it," said Parker.

"We've played six or seven of the best teams in the division in our last nine and this is the main driver for me with this team.

"Now, this is our competition. This is where we are and the glitz and glamour of the big players coming [is gone]. Now, the job is to maintain performance and maintain standards and we maintained that over the last few months, we need to keep it there because there are some big games coming up and we need to be on the right side of the results.

"We do need to turn these draws and little losses into wins. We understand that and hopefully we can do that against Brighton, West Brom and Leicester."

Parker wants to add a striker to his ranks before the close of the transfer window on Monday but has admitted any deals will be difficult.

"The current state of affairs in terms of where the world is, it's always a decision to be made," he said.

"Do I believe that a little bit of investment could it help this team massively? Yeah, I do. I can see that in the numbers.

"But I also understand the situation. It's a big commitment."

Get the lowdown on Albion's opponents Fulham

To get the lowdown on Albion's opponents Fulham, Adam Stenning spoke to Isabelle Barker of The Sun, who is a regular on the Fulhamish Podcast.

What have you made of their start to the season?

Our form at the start of the season was miserable and we looked destined to go straight back into the Championship because we were shipping so many goals.

But once a few of our injured new signings were able to play, like centre back Joachim Andersen, we've looked like a whole new side, particularly since we got our first win against West Brom.

It's credit to Scott Parker for bringing the best out of the new faces from the summer and being ruthless with the old faces, like axing our captain Tom Cairney from the starting line-up.

Do they have enough to stay up?

I'm worried we've left it too late to find our form.

Also we have been really unlucky with some decisions which have cost us crucial points, for example the ridiculous penalty against Newcastle when Callum Wilson dived.

However I do feel we have enough quality in our squad to bring it to big teams and fight till the end.

Just how big of a game is this for Fulham in their battle to avoid relegation?

It's huge and potentially season-defining.

Yes, we can bring it to big teams but it's scrapping with the likes of Brighton and West Brom that is going to determine whether we keep our place in the Prem.

Managers like to say these aren't must-win games but if you don't have the mentality that this is a must-win game then you've got no hope of staying up.

Do they need to strengthen in the transfer window?

Our recruitment was shambolic with transfers coming in on deadline day but ultimately they have been brilliant.

We have at least eight of our summer signings in our starting XI each week so I don't think we need to get loads of players in.

We haven't got a great deal of funds left so it would only likely be loan players coming in.

I'm a big fan of Aleksandar Mitrovic but a lot of fans would like to see a more mobile, dynamic striker coming in - but in my opinion Fulham aren't going to get a better striker than Mitro.

How will they line-up?

Areola; Andersen, Tosin, Aina; Tete, Reed, Anguissa, Bryan; Decordova-Reid (pictured), Lookman; Cavaleiro (although I'd rather it was Mitro!).

What will the score be?

2-1 Fulham!!!

FIFA allows Lookman and Adarabioyo to play for Nigeria

FIFA have approved the applications of Fulham pair Ademola Lookman and Toisin Adarabioyo to play for Nigeria, according to reports this morning.

Lookman, who was a key part of the England under 20 side that won the World Cup in 2017 and made eleven under-21 appearances, made the decision to switch his international allegiance to the birthplace of his parents last year. National coach Gernot Rohr has stressed the importance of regular club football in selection for the Super Eagles and Lookman has been impressive since joining Fulham on loan from RB Leipzig, scoring three goals in fifteen appearances – mostly recently against league leaders Manchester United last week.

Adarabioyo's application for a switch of nationality has also been approved. This was less of a hurdle as the cultured defender has not represented England at any youth level since an under-19 call-up in 2015. Adarabioyo has made an outstanding start to his Fulham career since moving to Craven Cottage from Manchester City for £2m last October, making fifteen first-team appearances and helping to tighten up a previously leaky defence as Scott Parker switched to three centre halves.

Michael Owen and Mark Lawrenson are in agreement about Brighton and Fulham

Brighton & Hove Albion host Fulham at the Amex Stadium this evening, with the two sides separated by just five points and one place in the Premier League table

It is a big game at the bottom for Brighton and Fulham this evening.

The two sides meet at the Amex Stadium, with Brighton and Fulham separated by five points towards the bottom of the Premier League table.

The Seagulls are 17th in the Premier League with 17 points from 19 games, five points above the bottom three at the halfway stage of the season.

But that gap could be cut to just two points if Fulham beat Graham Potter's side at the Amex Stadium tonight, with the two sides going head-to-head for the second time in six weeks.

The last time the two sides met, it finished 0-0 at Craven Cottage, with Brighton keeping themselves outside the relegation zone in recent weeks.

Fulham have a game in hand on Brighton, but will they cut that gap tonight?

Here's what the pundits are predicting for the game.

Former Brighton defender Mark Lawrenson - Brighton 2-0 Fulham

"This is a big game at the bottom of the table because a Brighton win would open up a bit of distance between them and Fulham in the bottom three," he said, in his weekly predictions feature for the BBC website.

"I am going to back Brighton to take the points too.

"Fulham have been playing well without winning in recent weeks, while Brighton did not just beat Leeds in their previous league game - they more than matched them in every department and got the job done."

Former Liverpool striker Michael Owen - Brighton 2-1 Fulham

"The wheels came off for Fulham at the weekend in their FA Cup tie against Burnley," he said in his weekly predictions feature for Bet Victor.

"In the end it was comprehensive, however, their main target is Premier League survival, so I think they'll refocus easily enough.

"It's finally coming together for Brighton. The Seagulls were doing everything right before Christmas, they just couldn't put the ball in the net. However, since the turn of the year they've improved, with a recent win away at Leeds testament of that.

"This should be an entertaining game. Both like to have a go, and although it's likely to be tight, I think Brighton will just shade it."

Why Playermaker Is Taking Its Soccer Technology To Amateur Players

Playermaker's technology uses small motion sensors strapped to players boots to collect data.
Playermaker

For the past three-and-a-half seasons, the young players at Fulham FC's academy have had a small addition to their kit.

Each time they train, the players slip a smart motion sensor on to their boots. The hope is that, through the vast data this tiny sensor collects, the players – and their coaches – can gain insights their eyes alone can't provide.

"They wear them every minute that they're on the grass with us. So we can try and get a clear picture of all the activity that we're doing," Jon Goodwin, head of academy sport science at Fulham FC, tells me in an interview.

"Our head of coaching often says, 'are we doing what we think we're doing?' It's being able to check, are we actually delivering to players ... the work they need and the practice they need."

These 'smart boots' are provided by Israeli startup Playermaker, which says its technology is unique in measuring "foot specific interactions".

Data on technical ability (like a player's use of their left and right foot or kick velocity), physical ability and gait parameters can be gathered and quickly processed. Advanced AI and machine learning algorithms are used to analyze the data, which is visualized for players and coaches to review.

In elite soccer, where such insights are increasingly valued, Playermaker has made significant inroads. Around a third of Premier League clubs, and about half of MLS clubs, use the technology.

When former Arsenal manager and current FIFA executive Arsene Wenger wanted to see it in action, an impromptu training session was organized in his backyard. He was so impressed with the results he invested in the company.

Now, having established a presence in the professional game, Playermaker is taking the technology to amateurs.

Guy Aharon, a former Israeli Navy officer and CEO of Playermaker, says this was always the goal of the business he co-founded in 2014 after seeing data become more important in sports.

"We wanted to find a way to reach any athlete, in any sport, at any age, and provide them with insights or information that can help them to make smarter decisions," he tells me in an interview.

Three years after its first product was launched, Playermaker has announced UNO, a "lighter" version of the technology aimed at "any player passionate about the game". Focusing initially on the US market, the company sped up the development of UNO during the COVID-19 pandemic.

"We are fortunate enough to be able to develop the technology that can be available for everyone. No matter if you're playing for one of the Manchesters in the Premier League or a high school in South Arizona, you can use our system and benefit from it," Aharon says.

"Once we realized this, we understood that we wanted to reach as wide as possible, because we can help youth players to be better, to engage more, to fulfill their dreams."

UNO by Playermaker is aimed at amateur players.
Playermaker.

The system, which includes a one-year subscription to the UNO app, costs $249 for an individual, with discounts available for clubs. After playing, players connect the boot sensor to the app to access insights on 15 unique performance indicators, from physical data to the number of ball touches and leg balance.

The focus on the US comes as Playermaker sees a growing demand for its products. That demand has allowed the business to compile a large database of youth soccer players, through which players can potentially be identified for club and college scouts. A Florida office was opened in 2019, adding to the company's presence in Tel Aviv, London and Beijing.

"Today we're working with more than 50 Division 1 colleges and more than 100 clubs in the US," Aharon says.

Keen amateurs aged between 13 and 21 with a desire to analyze their performance are a key target market for the UNO. They might be playing for their local club, academy or school.

"Those technical elements are very unique for the golden ages of player development," Aharon says.

"So when he compares himself from match to match, or to his teammates or to the benchmarks, he knows in what areas he needs to take action."

In the near future, Playermaker will launch a capital raise to support its expansion – including potential opportunities in other sports. In December 2019, the company raised $10 million in a Series B round.

At Fulham's academy, around 100 players aged 12 to 16 use Playermaker. But Goodwin does not collect data for data's sake. He sees the insights it provides as useful for coaches to gauge a player's progression, not a stick with which to beat the youngsters.

"My personal philosophy is that I don't want to make players feel like data subjects at too young an age," he says.

"The younger we go down the age groups, I'm more and more keen that this data informs the conversation with the coaches that helps them (the coaches) understand whether they're achieving their objectives in training.

"Most of the time, (the data) is not being used to hold players to account. It's being used to help us understand the work that we're doing and the development and progress the players are making."

Fulham investigate abuse claims alleged by former youth player

Fulham have launched an investigation after former youth player Max Noble claimed he was bullied, abused and threatened during his time at the London club's academy.

Noble said in an interview with the i newspaper he felt depressed and contemplated suicide due to the treatment he received.

Among the incidents were Noble being told he would be dropped if he did not sign with a particular agent and white players being afforded preferential treatment at training.

Noble also said he was forced to take painkillers to practice and that the club refused to pay for his knee surgery before his scholarship deal came to an end.

"I had to pay for my own surgery and rehab. I didn't even receive a phone call from them to see how I was getting on. No psychological help. No aftercare at all," he said.

Fulham said in a statement to British media that they condemned bullying, racism and discrimination of all forms and will "investigate the historic claims and liaise with all relevant parties."

The 31-year-old added that he had been contacted by more than 100 former academy players who had been treated in a similar way after he released a video about his experiences.

"The only thing I want to change is if you take a boy out of school you owe him aftercare," he said. "You can't promise them the world, then ignore them when they're depressed, or they're going through what I had to go through.

"I wouldn't wish that on anyone. The academy system is failing, you can see just by the numbers, it's completely failing."

Fulham sorting 'last details' for outgoing transfer as club accelerate signing

Following an entire month of rumours, it seems Jean Michael Seri is finally on his way out of Fulham.

As reported by Tutto Mercato Web on Wednesday, French side Bordeaux have 'accelerated' for his signing.

The clubs are said to be discussing the transfer's formula and sorting out the last details before the midfielder can complete the move.

It's still not clear if Seri is moving on a temporary or permanent deal, as his contract with Fulham runs until 2022.

Tutto Mercato Web recalls that at the start of the month, the player was close to moving back to Galatasaray, the place where he'd already spent an entire last season on a loan spell.

Recent reports from the French media had already claimed that the likes of Bordeaux and Nice were in for the 29-year-old, as other stories said Porto were in the race as well.

With such a big competition for the signing, it looks likely that Fulham may end up finding a good deal for Seri's departure.

West Ham battling Newcastle & Fulham for prolific nine-goal ace

West Ham's pursuit of a new striker has dominated the headlines this month.

The sale of Sebastien Haller has left the club seeking a replacement and they have yet to find one.

Instead, they look set to sign Jesse Lingard on loan from Manchester United, but it seems they are continuing to pursue a new forward.

Sport Witness carries a report from journalist Armando Napoletano, who was speaking to Calcio Napoli 24 Live.

The Irons have been linked with a move to sign Spezia striker M'Bala Nzola, who has been in excellent form in Serie A this season.

The 24-year-old has scored nine goals in 13 games this season, laying on one assist, and it seems that the Hammers are not the only club interested in snapping up the centre-forward.

Napoletano claims that both Fulham and Newcastle United are also interested in signing the forward.

Nzola is valued at £3.6m by Transfermarkt and one thing seems certain: He is likely to leave the club for a far higher price than that.
GIVEMESPORT'S Harry Sherlock says...

Nzola is in electric form.

The 24-year-old has never played in Serie A prior to this season but he is making light work of it, scoring plenty of goals as Spezia look to stay in the top-flight following last season's promotion.

He scored six goals in 17 games in Serie B last term, so one has to wonder if this is more of a purple patch than a true reflection of his quality.

It is little surprise that Premier League clubs are interested in snapping him up, as he is having a great season so far.

But one has to wonder if he will be able to adapt to life in England.
