Title: Everton penalty
Post by: Slaphead in Qatar on February 21, 2021, 09:36:05 AM
Am I missing something, but how was that a pen for Everton yesterday. Dominic Calvert Lewin basically ran into and fell over the Liverpool player who was just lying on the ground and not even looking at Dominic.

I think this was a far more controversial decision than the Areola non penalty.

I think because Alexander-Arnold makes a challenge when he slides in to try and block and then his momentum from that challenge blocks Calver Lewins run or that how I saw it anyway.

It was super unfortunate in a lot of aspects. Where the keeper parried it to (pace and direction), where Arnold ended up during and after his challenge, the angle Lewin was approaching the ball from. For me, it was a pen but strictly because it was almost unintentional obstruction from the defender when Lewin had an open goal. If Lewin could get to the ball, i've no doubt he'll be angry he wasn't able to just pass it into the open net. I just don't see how it can't be given irrespective of intent from defender.
