Title: NFR: Bournemouth's Game Plan Today
Post by: SP on May 22, 2021, 12:51:18 PM
Seems to be trying to get Ivan Toney wound up & sent off.  One booking in their plan is working well.

Bournemouth seem to prefer life in the Championship? Brentford have been absolutely let back into this without doing much at all.

I see the reverse - Brentford are playing pants while Bournemouth look out of their element completely

Still think Bournemouth going up is the best thing for us next season.

Toney would surely go to a West Ham and don't think Brentford are much without him.

Can't wait for next season, personally.

Can't understand why he bought the player down with so long left in the game.  Brilliant entertainment.

Brentford or not this is entertaining. Proper game of football, shame about the 10 men.

Damn shame, and such a needless red. He played himself into a horrible defensive position, let the Brentford man get the best of him, and then why trip him up? Even if he scores you are better off with 11 men surely.

Cherries seem to have lost composure.  Let's see if Woodgate can calm them down.  Happy with either away day next season!

Great game to watch. That Brentford positioning for the corner that led to Bournemouth's goal was the worst I have ever seen in my life! Even worse than Manchester United's in Turkey earlier this year.

You look at the Bournemouth team and wonder how they weren't in the conversation for top 2. Now it makes sense.

Does it seem right that if a player is sent off in the second leg of a tie his side must play any extra time with 10 men, whereas if their opponents had a player sent off in the first leg that doesn't carry over to what is effectively a new 15 minute each half game. Seems fairer to me that the penalised side should be able to make their team up to 11 for extra time ( not using the player who was sent off). Just a general thought as it looks like Brentford may have taken the need out of the equation.

Brentford have been absolutely excellent today.

They deserve to go up based on this performance and their previous two seasons.

Would love Barnsley to do it, though.

Praying that Swansea or Barnsley save us from suffering Brentford in the PL. It will be short lived as I can´t see any of the promoted clubs surviving in the PL

To be fair they'll have a better chance at staying up with their recruitment.  But as others have said they're the kings of choke when it comes to the final, so I'm not writing off Swansea (or Barnsley)

It may not be a thing of architectural beauty but they are a smallish club with a smaller fanbase than us and a less wealthy owner. They've got it built, up and running so fair play to them.

Exactly this, I don't have too much of a problem with Brentford as a 'rival'. For a smaller club which they are, they are run well and deserve a shot at the prem given their recent few years. I don't think they'd stay up but they'll give it a better go than we did!

Let's be totally honest, we were very lucky to get promoted last year.  Over last season they were better than us and deserved to be at the top table.  I, for one, will cheer them on at Wembley and hope they get to the promised land.  They've been very unlucky with previous playoffs - hope this their turn.
Plus the added bonus is, of course another 6 points!!

I don't like this "we were lucky" business. No, we finished on the same number of points as they did. We turned up for the playoffs, and they did not. In the end it should have been comprehensive, and they never really threatened to win the game. Luck had little to do with it.

Brentford were extremely lucky today (dodgy penalty, idiocy of Mepham, deflected goal) but that's part of football and they did well to exploit it. If they get promoted, they will have earned it over a gruelling season and playoffs. They are a well run club that have been knocking on the door for a while now, and so I'm sure they will go up at some point if not this year.

I agree with the above assessment. We were much the better team on the night at Wembley - my son and I both agreed afterwards that we never looked like loosing that game.

I wish them all the best at Wembley and I hope they do it. I also think they will make a better fist of it than we have and will probably stay up. Here's to Fulham v Brentford in the Premiership in front of 30k at the cottage in 2022-23 season. That would go down well with our QPR acquaintances!

I didnt see too many premier league standard players today & they'll have to wait until the final to sign players.  A one year stay IMO but good luck to them.

Fair point but they have a manager who will go out to win games against the bottom half of the Premiership and they have a strong recruitment strategy that will focus on players desperate and capable of proving themselves at that level with guaranteed regular game time.

I've seen a fair bit of Ivan Toney & he's a decent striker but not in the class of Ollie Watkins.  For some reason I'm leaning towards Swansea but it should be another dramatic final.

I don't know why nobody wants Brentford to go up. They will be spanned every week unless they spend big. Do they have the dosh? It could make them stronger as a club though. However there is a long way to go and they are not a big game team. But they do think they are.

Having watched the game yesterday, I think they should stop sending 10 players forward for corners.
