Title: Alfie Mawson
Post by: Cookie6262 on August 22, 2021, 07:13:31 PM
With Mawson's injury issues and strong rumours of a falling out with Parker I think many of us thought we would never see him play for Fulham again, so firstly it was good to see him come on and play well Saturday but more revealing was his after game interview on the official site where he said he is in a really good place mentally and physically... if he is really fully fit and happy we have a £18 million centre half here who was massively rated in the premiership when we signed him.

At the start of the transfer window most fans agreed we wanted/needed 4 players a CB, CM, Creative AM and a 2nd ST.... Well in Mawson, Seri and Carvalho it looks like we might already of had 3 of them at the club.

Good post, and I agree, I think we have a box full of tricks in our squad, and it's a big box!

I couldn't agree more. I would take Mawson over Ream all day long.

Would 'a big box' in any way be associated with your moniker? Lol....

Agreed, Mawson is like a new signing and if he stays fit he could be a future captain for us.

Bit of a surprise that Seri and Zambo haven't left yet and are staying- especially Seri, also like a new singing.

This window has turned out to be a good one. Still think we need a couple more players for depth.

I thought Mawson did great coming on for Ream.  Still would pick Ream over Mawson as they are different players in my mind.  Mawson, I think is more physical and looks willing to make attacking runs.  Ream reads the game well and has exceptional passing abilities.  It is that ability to pick out a killer pass that sets players into the attack that edges it for me.

The problem I have is this, Ream isn't good enough for the PL. Mawson could be good enough if he gets his fitness back and form drives on.

Exceptional passing ability to pick out a killer pass in attack ? Are you sure you're not getting him confused with Andersen ? I'm not a big Ream fan but have been impressed with him in the opening games this season and was disappointed to see him go off. Hope it's just a short term injury. Mawson slotted in well. We're blessed with some depth in the centre back dept for a change, although that comes with a caveat that this is the Championship and not the Premier League.

He, kongolo and Tosin are our most promising CBs with the future in mind. Also they've got a proven quality in the premiership whereas the jury is out or committed to ream and perhaps Hector who are championship Cbs.

I would love nothing more to one day soon see a fully fit squad with all the players we currently have at the club as I think particularly at this level it would be devastating.

With all due respect I think if you have a fully fit and up for it team out if the players we have now,  without losing anguissa etc, then we could perhaps make even other top six teams look average.

Gazza or rodak in GK (still undecided though leaning rodaks way)

Tete, tosin/mawson kongolo Robinson

Reed/anguissa--- seri - carvalho/cairney

Wilson   mitrovic    BDR

With a bench of

Gazza, mawson/tosin, Bryan, cavaleiro, Muniz, anguissa/Reed, carvalho/cairney and we would be spoilt for choice.

That doesn't include Onomah (who I think has done really well this season so far), knockaert (who I think silva could work magic on), Christie, Ream, odoi, neeskens etc etc.

Would love to see that and hope we do.

For me it is who is the best defender first and foremost and that is Mawson. Ream couldn't compete in the air with the Hull centre forward whilst Mawson won every header. Also early on Ream was bundled off the ball creating half a chance. They couldn't and didn't do that to Mawson. In this league strength and heading ability is the first consideration not the ability to make a defence splitting pass as most teams will have a lump playing up front.

In our previous Championship season there were a fair few comments criticising Mawson for getting bullied by opposition attackers. It could be that he was playing within himself due to his injury record but I will want to see a larger body of evidence before concluding that Mawson is the physical specimen we need.

Even now Ream makes 2-3 shockingly poor passes each game. No one seems to mention it, and perhaps it's becuase the team can compensate for it as it is the Championship not the PL. He's had some nice vision though. He has been through a resurgence where he is over punching his weight/outperforming which has been nice.

End of the day it would be great to see Mawson find some form and comin in and shine if nothing else but for depth. This is how players end up in the starting 11 and I hope it happens for him. Ream is good enough for the Championship this year, but if we get promoted he'll need to be replaced anyway.

Agreed. Personally I think Mawson is a much better defender than Ream. I'm not convinced that Mawson will last a full season though. We may need Ream again soon but as long as Mawson is fully fit he should be a regular starter IMO.

Ream was looking so good on Saturday until that nasty back injury, really hope he gets back quickly.
Mawson looked OK but lets not judge on just those 75 minutes.

One sub appearance in a comfortable home game against Hull, and Mawson has suddenly metamorphosed into Giorgio Chiellini 😂

These are exactly my thoughts. I thought Mawson would be a great signing at the time. However, watching him play, he is one of the worst centre backs since the Felix's team.

I appreciate this could be due to injuries but after 1 game this season, it seems he is the new messiah. I sincerely hope he comes good but Ream has been a consistent defender for us over a long period. Let's not get too far ahead of ourselves with Mawson just yet.
