Title: More questions than answers
Post by: JimmyConway on October 03, 2021, 02:28:10 PM
There is a common link to when we are poor!
If you look at the three goals in open play there is some X certificate play from us.
The first goal Ream though not totally alone in blame should take charge as his facing the play. Though the ball is over hit from the goalie and his touch forces Onomah to react he needed to show leadership and there is probably the rub? We don't have apart from Reed any leaders. Yesterday's defeat certainly showed a lack of character in this squad.

The third goal Kebano shows very little effort in trying to block the cross and though with work still to do Odoi decides to turn his back! Your taught at school boy level not to do that. Two Fulham players not doing the basics.
Fourth goal again the ball whipped in under no pressure but neither Mawson or Odoi take responsibility.

Total lack of leadership on the pitch and a major worry so early in the season. Barely out of September and three poor defeats already on the boards.

I hope Silva is not rigid in his formation as we seem to be getting more outmanoeuvred with the teams playing three at the back. Swansea showed at times in second half that we are vulnerable and the next two home games sees us play teams who play three at the back and smother the midfield.

From seeing the Swansea game and watching yesterday's highlights we seem to be lacking a midfield enforcer. A lot of the players are not winning the 50/50 tackles or getting caught in possession too easily. Need to tighten up.

Swansea, Blackpool and Reading results would suggest that coaches have got the measure of us tactically and that we now have to change our approach. In particular we have to have a playmaker with a minder in midfield.
