These are really getting on my nerves, usually a few register per day, which makes the problem that we don't know the difference between a wierd user name and a bot. Anyone know how we can stop them from registering?
What's a "BOTS"?
Im no expert but this thread from another site may be of help...

Not sure how all this works so I am just testing out. sorry, but it looks good chaps
alright cheers os, I'll bump this up for JC. but because of these bots we can't have people registering automatically otherwise we'll get overrun with them. a minor inconvenience so apologies.

basically you have programs that register automatically on forums in order to post links to dodgy stuff like viruses and things.
because I've enabled CAPTCHA it should cut down the amount of unwanted registrants
the down side is that when a new member registers they have to wait to be accepted
Do you have an htaccess file? If so you can list the bots in there that you don't want to visit your site. I have a long list if you need one - I use it to stop my email address being taken off my sites and used as junk mail addresses.

I'm afraid there are bots that can read and enter capture letters/numbers!

tbh, I see no problem waiting a short period to register at all. It inhibits the numpties that simply register in reaction to a single thread, and allows the cooling-off period for such peeps.
There shouldn't be a right to be on this MB, it should be a privilege.

I think I saw one of those being used in the Man From U.N.C.L.E once. If that doesn't solve the problem, try upgrading to GOTCHA and ALWAYS remember there are Klingons on the Starboard bow. ;)
