Title: Patrick Viera gone
Post by: Slaphead in Qatar on March 17, 2023, 09:58:17 AM
Palace played some good football, but i always thought they had a soft centre this season.

12th in the league, and they say he got a "respectable 12th-placed finish last season". Think on the budget he's given he's overperformed. I hope relegation is the reward for the Board.

Is Mr Roy going back

Yet the players still carry on, no blame for poor performances for them.
Ok Mr Viera will get a nice pay off and will probably go somewhere else.

Sorry it's always been my little gripe.

panicky club, always have been, probably got enough this season, but you never know... we are supposed to have interviewed Vieira before appointing Silva, rumour has it Khan was unimpressed...

They've been dropping big sums of money on players and have 1 win in 16. They've been bang average under him and with the attacking players they've got, going 4 games without a shot on target is a coaching issue. 12th isn't saying much this year because they're in a relegation scrap at the moment

Hardly big spenders. 16th largest in the Prem

That is over 5 years, a period that includes Roy running the club on a shoestring (making a £30m profit over the three years 2018-21). Viera has spent £110m in 2 seasons, which is comparatively high.

I thought Viera did well last season but has not pushed them on this season. With the squad they have I would expect them to be doing better than they are, which is presumably why the Palace board have pulled the trigger..

Thats how I see it.  They have been dreadful since the restart and have hardly scored in that run whilst taking a few big hammerings.

For me, thats relegation form all day long and depending on who they bring in, I think its going to be difficult for that squad to turn it around.

If they do go down, Id be very keen for us to try and get Andersen back. Ready made Ream replacement when he eventually stops being first choice.

Yes - he is the only 20-21 season player I would want back.  I also wouldn't say no to Zaha and Eze.

Although I do get this and it would be great to have him back, I would be all over an out of contract Zaha heading here.

Kind of surprised at the sacking here.  Though Palace in poor current form, they are and have been a solid mid table PL club for some time now.  I would be very surprised if they go down this year, but it is a possibility.

Andersen would be a good get.  I have friends who are Palace fans and they think Zaha is way past his freshness date.  Personally, I like Zaha.  I'd be all over Andersen, Zaha and Olise.

I would not be keen on Zaha. Not because he isn't still a very good player, but if he moves on a free then his wages will be astronomical. We've endured a tough period where the wages of players like Seri/Anguissa proved a millstone, let's not jump straight back in.

I think every time Bournemouth/Forest pick up points, a lot of teams that should be safe but are not currently (Leicester, Palace, West Ham) get very nervous. I'm surprised how this season has gone for Palace, not at the departure of Viera after such a bad run.

Zaha too injury prone for me & Eze needs time to recover from his recent injury

Didnt we use to have Eze on our books and let him go?

They have a great string of games coming up so I think they will be OK in the end

Yes they are 12th, but they are 3 points of relegation as 12-20 is only separated by 5 points.  They also have scored only 6 goals in their last 12, none of those wins, and they havent scored 2 goals in a match since Dec 31.

I am in the US, and watch a good amount of games.  They are a dreadful team to watch.  Its Burnley with less route 1 play.  They dont really connect passes and rely on a few breaks a game to get their limited goals.

Sometimes things just get stale and you need to move on, and it feels like they need some new blood to make sure they stay up.  I personally would love to see them going down because I enjoy teams that go forward and dont just play for 1-0 wins.  For me, Wolves, Forest and Palace, based on how they play, would be great to go down.

I was pretty shocked when I heard he was sacked, very poor run of ten games (basically since New Years Day) and suddenly you are a gonna.... Feels like before that he was rather secure, and I think he should have been allowed to pull them back up.

Hard to think of a better choice than Roy to keep them in the Premier League.
