Strange how it seems

We are currently 2 wins away from 14th place - as long as we stay in touch with the lot above us we have a chance of staying up....I believe in Mr Ranieri, and I'm thinking/hoping that he has a relatively free reign on new recruits in January, and we can get out of this mess.....

The 6 teams above us are not going to lose every week. They're going to pick up 1-2 points each time we play a game. So a 6 pt gap will actually take more like 3 wins.

Who knows, we could go and win our next 3 games on the spin, but I haven't seen anything from this team yet, even under Ranieri, to suggest we will win 3 more games between now and the end of the season, let alone winning the next 3 back to back.

I have been looking at the table this morning.

To get anywhere near 14th we'd need at least 40pts. Even just to get that we'll need to average 1.4 pts per game for the rest of the season. May not sound much but that is top 8 form. So we'd need to be matching Everton and Leicester for the rest of the season. That's just to get 40 pts, which would probably see us finish around 15th/16th. No chance IMO.

35 pts may well be enough to scrape 17th. To get that we need about 1.2 pts per game. 6 pts every 5 games, WDDDL or WWLLL. That's generally around 10th-12th form. So we need be playing like West Ham, Brighton, Watford for the rest of the season just to have a chance of scraping through.

Achievable perhaps, but you can see what a big ask it is already.

People always fall into that trap of saying we are only 2 wins or so behind and your right. At the moment to get to 14th we would need to win 3 and draw one of the next 4 to make it 14th by my calculations.

It is going to be tough. We have had the benefit of the new manager bounce, spirited performances against Southampton and Liecester at the Cottage, but it seems that the manager is still unsure of his best team and is trying different tactics and line ups in the hope of finding the right combination.

No doubt that the players bought in in the summer fall short of expectations but somehow the manager has to get more out of them , we can't wait for the window, we need points on the board before the end of the year.

Surely Ranieri has got the feel of things after four games and will field a team that is in with a chance of three points at the Cottage against West Ham.

Trying to stay optimistic.

Last 4 games teams have been in 17th 4th 8th and 8th prior to each game.

Now we go into a 4-game run with teams in 10th 15th 13th and 18th Of course, yesterday we showed no form at all, but this is as close as you get to a 4 game season defining run.

Second half of the season is much tougher at the Cottage.  We  have Man U  Chelsea, Liverpool, Man City and Spurs. There is very little reason to think we will get anything out of those 5 games  which means we would have to win the other games and pick up two or three away wins. Not impossible but a big ask. We would be foolish not to prepare for another season in the Championship.
