Post match interview behind paywall

Post match interview with Parker behind pay wall, I'm all for exclusive content but surely this is a tad to far

General

Join the large outspoken majority who the club are starting to irritate due to this paywall business. May have to start a petition or protest. This is the UK not the U.s and our culture around business and football is different and should be respected. There aren't franchises and 300 million potential fans. It's England centric and in our case London and nearby centric for the most part.

Are you sure it's a large outspoken majority and not a minority? I have a feeling that for one reason or another the majority don't really care

Content on FulhamTV has a cost and I see no reason why I and other season ticket holders should have to pay that cost if they have no interest in viewing the content.

As to post match interviews - there is a written account on the BBC website - which of course is paid for by the license payers and other free to read online media - highlights are free to view on Sky if you're in the UK - if not download HOLA - free from playstore and pretend to be.
It could be better, but it's not a fantasy:

All football is market driven, if people stop using the service in  numbers, then  it would change.

I suppose I always seem to be defending the club, though I'm an oap who can't afford to go to many games, not someone well off.

It's just that all clubs seem to have  paywalls, including match commentaries these days, and obviously there is a cost in running them, but I can see where people are coming from who criticise this - football has generally become so expensive after being a traditionally cheap leisure pursuit for years, before Sky and their money came on the scene, and made the game into a global commodity.

The paywall is a FA requirement and the club offer it at the lowest price allowed

Does the requirement mean all content has to go behind it, last season and season before last the post match interviews were not behind a pay wall were they?

No it doesn't but as the cost has just gone up by 25% (from £4 to £5) it adds value to the package that they are selling to us. It also adds the convenience that all the video content is in one place and easy to find if you miss it when it is advertised on the news page

Fair enough, I suppose if you want to justify something you may as well cram as much behind it.

it doesnt add value its the club trying to justify the cost, let's not fall for the marketing bull. If they want to make additional money stick it on youtube and run ads with it and save the £5 for the match replays, Football used to be a game for the people its like PPV for every item at the moment

I would guess the number of subscribers to FFCTV is far less in number than the potential supporter base by a very big number.  If the reverse were true then everything would be behind a paywall ... just a thought.

So you would be happy for the cost of producing the content to be added to the cost of your season ticket ?
Alternatively they could save the cost altogether by not producing or distributing the content it at all ?

No one is forced or has to buy a subscription - the content is not something anyone cannot live without - as I remember it we all enjoyed our footy before the Internet and TV happened

I really don't understand the fuss. It is not as if he has anything of value to say in any of these interviews. That could I accept be an argument for bringing it out from behind the paywall.
It is also my understanding that the EFL dictate to clubs that they must charge for this service. What discretion they have over content I don't know. I pay for the service and am looking forward to watching the 90 minutes sometime today- great value

The major problem is that the EFL licensed content is not available outside of the UK - so if you do not live in the UK or are away on holiday or business, you cannot view it on the SKY site or even YouTube.

Everything else is copyright to the club and they can put it where they want to.

The choice is then - recover the operational cost by charging a fee or pass it on by adding it to the cost of a season ticket
Nothing it free - it has to be paid for at some point and by some means

The EFL stipulation only applies to live game streams to non-UK based viewing which may or may not include audio commentary - a moot point. By bundling everything onto the EFL rule the Club has made a conscious decision to obtain revenue through its use which, as MJG has explained to us elsewhere, is also intended to cover some of the cost of the FFCTV service.

The match is licensed for viewing in the UK in both live transmission and highlights formats - if your not in the UK you cannot view the SKY website content - if it is put onto YouTube by an unauthorised person the EFL issues a "take down" notice to them

People in the UK have been able to view EFL highlights for free on the Sky website for quite a while and people abroad can take the live stream if they pay for it on FFCTV.  The moot point I mentioned is whether or not FFC need to charge for GJ's audio commentary.

so what is the money the club get from Sky for if not for showing the game? why should we have to pay Sky, BBC and FFC to watch the same(ish) content.
how well did F1 do going to Sky? how about the cricket, how's that worked out behind a paywall?

Just to be clear to you, whitejc, I was not endorsing the Club's decision to charge merely to express the public domain information available as to why they do charge.  My personal view is that the streaming charge for non-UK fans is fine but for UK supporters I do believe the Club should think again about what is and isn't available for free.  Anything that gets new and old supporters to follow FFC and attend games if they can should be free IMO.

Holders

Before we had all this stuff on the website you had to phone an expensive premium-rate number to hear interviews. OK, I did it from work but this is much better now and at cheaper cost.

It did used to be for the people but that was before we had multi millionaires with their agents sucking every penny they can get out of clubs! Look at our wage bill last year 80 million!
