I get quite angry at Liverpool, let's be fair £4mill is not a lot for them but they still think they can screw the smaller clubs by poaching young potential for next to nothing and making the other clubs wait for any money.
I am also angry with Elliot, the club he supports comes knocking and he basically sticks two fingers up at Fulham in his rush to get out the door without a thought to the club which got him in this position.

Shafted? Hardly.

Its £1.7m now (or at least later this year)

£1.7m? Wow. I retract my cynical comments.

That sort of money will transform our future and is certainly a fair reward for one of the top 5 academy prospects we've had in the past 20 years.

...Not!!!!

Liverpool web site says its £1.5 million, they seem very happy.

From the Pool website
Liverpool Football Club can confirm the decision taken by the Professional Football Compensation Committee regarding the registration of Harvey Elliott.

The PFCC tribunal set a guaranteed compensation fee of £1.5 million, plus £2.8 million in contingent amounts dependent on player performance.

The club has given the following response: "Liverpool Football Club respects the outcome of the PFCC's fair and thorough process in this matter.

"We would like to thank the panel for their time and diligence in reaching a decision.

"We now look forward to welcoming Harvey back from his loan spell with Blackburn Rovers in the summer and helping him continue to build towards a long and successful career at Anfield."

How much would we have to pay in the open markek for a replacement player with Elliot's ability and promise, a lot more than Liverpool have just payed us.

Nothing much that is happening to us makes me think that Brentford got it wrong in doing away with their Academy.

If he doesn't make 100 appearances, it will be because they sell him.

I'd say the least we will make from him is £5m. And possibly a lot more.
Your assuming if he doesnt make 100 appearances they sell him for 25 million and we get 20%, thats a total for a youngster who may or not make the grade. Hopefully that happens but it is equally likely that they off load for a lot less before the 100 games and we get say 250k instead.

Thats without him singing a second contract which he is expected to do when he turns 18 this year, executed but not guaranteed too

Here is a thought.  As a Liverpool player his value will be a lot higher than as a fringe player at Fulham.  I am not sure how good he will become but let's assume he is very much a fringe player for Liverpool who eventually will want to sell.  Imagine him then as a fring player for Fulham which I think is quite possible as he is not pulling up trees for Blackburn, what would we get for him for any proposed move ?  A lot less than Liverpool will.  So a 20% sell on may potentially work in our favour.

You also cannot legislate for injury. Hopefully he doesn't get one but it can happen

You say he's not pulling up trees for Blackburn. He's only 17 years old and holding down a fairly regular place in the team. I'm not sure what your expectations of such a young player are ?. In 22 appearances he's scored 4 goals. I think he's doing very well all things considered and reports of his performances have been very positive.

Local press say "From a Rovers perspective, the tribunal will bear no impact on Elliott's time at Ewood Park, where he has been a scintillating success since his arrival in October.  The 17-year-old has registered four goals and eight assists on his debut Championship campaign..."
The world is made up of electrons, protons, neurons, possibly muons and, definitely, morons.

Then we make £2m or so for a player that flattered to deceive and didn't quite make the grade and spent a couple of years in our youth set up. You'd take that wouldn't you?

Dr Quinzel

£1.7m, even with add ons (rumour had been 20% sell on) doesn't seem much and I'd almost feel really annoyed, because we're talking about a very, very good player for his age already. But... we do it with impunity to smaller clubs with young players quite regularly, so it almost feels ironic for us to be complaining. The whole process stinks, really.

Tabby

Happy about the sell on clause. If there is one thing that Liverpool have done well in recent years it is moving on mediocre youth players at huge prices, so there may be more there even if Elliot doesn't make the grade.

Stoneleigh Loyalist

We have taken Stansfield from Exeter and Bowie from Raith Rovers for next to nothing and there have been other youngsters in the past. Unfortunately the whole system is weighted in favour if the larger clubs but as with Dembele  the club have potentially lost a large amount with Elliott..

I've just watched some of his highlights on SSN and to say we were robbed is an understatement.  We could well have been in a much better situation had he stayed with us. Some of his goals and assists were very, very good.  Having said what a lot of others have remarked, we have been guilty in the past of "robbing" other clubs.  It is what it is

We even took him from QPR ourselves. Not sure that even this tribunal system really works.

I can understand certain clubs getting rid of acedemy in many ways it makes sense and 4 mill it's a rubbish fee, clubs like Liverpool can do what they like it seems.
