I generally agree with this sentiment, but maybe this is why I'm not a manager (and why I find forum posts so confusing sometimes), because if fit I would play the starting XI every game until we see different results from 5-0 lol.

With another six games crammed into less than three weeks starting with Newcastle I don't see how Silva can avoid some rotation. This sort of intense period of matches is exactly why we have a squad and why squad quality is so important.

Agreed.  Castagne has been playing very well indeed, but Tete is still my first choice at that position.  My only concern right now is that Tete may be carrying a knock or not fully healed from his injury.  I thought he was excellent v Liverpool.  I have been surprised that he has not been chosen these last couple of games.  Hopefully he is 'fit'.

Quote from: Woolly Mammoth on December 12, 2023, 01:09:21 PMWhat is this talk about resting players.
We are not running a holiday camp.

A lot of them don't even play a full game.

Play our strongest team available at Newcastle and then play our strongest available team at Everton.

Too much dissecting the tiniest detail.
It's desire, hunger and appetite plus mental strength that are the catalysts in winning matches, not fannying around with a file of statistics under your arm.

Prepare and organise for the Newcastle match, win it, assess who is fit and injury free, then prepare and organise for the Everton match, and play our strongest available team.
Win both games and take no prisoners.

Well yes, but that's pretty much the same as having to rest players. Put it this way, we won't put the exact same team out against Newcastle and Everton. I'd expect to see some rotation, especially when you have players like Wilson and Reed, who haven't started recently, but have done well when they have come on. Having said that, I would expect to see the core of our team start unless they have picked up a knock.

I would also start Leno in both games.

To be fair, I don't think we are saying different things

I agree with you, we are just using different adjectives to explain our point of view, but with the same result.
I also concur with you regarding Leno staying in goal, there is no room for sentiment.
I would rather disappoint one player by not playing him than ten players if i did play him, and i say that with due respect to Rodak.

Absolutely agree. I'm so looking forward to the next few weeks

If Tete is fully fit he should start. I think Castagne will play an important role though, I think there's plenty of games for them to share- especially if we have cup runs.

I think Castagne was a good signing for us and he's given us exactly what we needed- competition for places and not just at right back, he can play left back and further up the field as well. I think he'll eventually show he can play the BDR role and fill in all over the place- and that's not to say he won't start games, he's good enough

Between Iwobi and Castagne the two of them can cover 7 different positions and at a high level. Very nice to have that sort of versatility.

Gotta go for it in both
I'd have the same starting line up against the Geordie Maggots then make a few adjustments accordingly for Everton,

For me personally Newcastle is the bigger game
