I must admit i absolutely love the Olympics. That 4 year cycle where I get into all sorts of strange sports that I'd never ever consider watching usually- Archery, pentathlon, Triathlon, Hockey etc.

So, I thought i'd see if tickets were still available and there are plenty.

Is anyone planning (or has already) a trip to the Olympics? I think I'm going to try and get over for a few days. Any tips on great spectator sports to see? Staying? etc

Women's beach volleyball !

My partner asked me what I'd like to see at the Olympics and I said the surfing. She asked whyever the surfing? Because it's in Tahiti.

Lost interest in it. But hopefully when the time comes the excitement will kick in. I have to admit to actually enjoy the proper volleyball. The beach volleyball is nonsense.

But as it is being held in France. I can't help but wonder of the political situation. Too many extremists around.

We may yet hear the horse talk.

Are we in with a chance in any of the track events. If we have a good 5,00 or 10,000 meter runner then my interest is immediately aroused.

Went to the Atlanta Olympics in 1996 and had a great time. I would definitely recommend going. I really enjoyed the (as we Yanks call it) the track and field.

Some of the folks who frequent the rock climbing gym i belong to here in Tokyo are in as athletes.  I'll be rooting for them.

Obviously enjoy the running and cycling events, but find hockey quite  exciting to watch.

Also, love horsey events, like dressage.....only joking!

I love hockey much more than football, been watching GB men&women pro league last few weeks great fun.

I love tennis and very much look forward to Grand Slams and challenger tournaments. But like football in the olympics. Tennis holds no Olympic interest to me. I think less is more and trying to have so many different sports over and above athletics and the less popular sports tends to spoil it for me.

However the traditional Olympic fare is always interesting.

The mens 100 meters is going to be insane. World record could go.

Rowing and cycling and triathlon for me, although I do watch many of the other events too.

The modern Olympics are very much under the influence of US television and that is the reason for the inclusion of some of the new events . I see no reason for the inclusion of big money Golf and would permanently ban any of the athletes who have been guilty of doping. But them I am very traditional in my feelings about the original Olympic events.
