The rules have been changed, but regardless of anything else you only get the one second chance.

Will that apply in the Prem as well ?

Backs to the wall against the World Champions. Go behind. Still second best. But get a great equaliser and then in injury time backs to the wall.

No doubt that team never know when they are beaten. I thought only playing one up front was a mistake. Thought bringing Carter back was a mistake. Carter was outstanding at the back. A great achievement.

Agree, she's brilliant. To be honest these women are pretty tough. They may sport pony tails and whatever but they are bloody tough competitors and sportswomen.

I was particularly impressed throughout the tournament by the team ethic the whole squad displayed. That is something I think our men's teams could have learnt from over recent years.
Lucy Bronze played the whole tournament with a fractured tibia, sheer guts fighting through the pain.

Spain were clearly the better footballing team, but it was pure self belief, and a keeper that can save a pen or two.

England lost their first game in the tournament, and won only 2 games in normal time (both in the group stage)... But people will remember that Winning penalty and the lifting of the trophy and celebrations for many years to come.

Coastwalker

Spoilt only by her  commentary, had to turn the sound off,her screeching voice. ::tongue::

Michelle Agyemang, looks like she will be in that squad for more than a decade and nice with it.

Well done to everyone involved from the Manager, the players, the coaches, the physios, the supporters. You all did so well. I am proud of you all

Incredible isn't it? It set me wondering how many top male international footballers would do that for their country? Not many I'd guess, I can think of England players of the 1960's and 70's who might have tried but not any more. That sort of selfless attitude of do it for the team seems to have disappeared from the men's game. Frankly I find our women's team inspirational.

The first 120 minutes plus added on time and penalty shoot outs are the most important.
England won it the hard way, and thoroughly deserved it.

Apparently the Spanish press are accusing Chloe Kelly of unsportsmanlike behaviour by deliberately running at the keeper after scoring the winner, if you look at Kelly she is looking at the English supporters behind the goal, they also saying that England robbed them of their rightful entitlement to the Euro title. Of course there is no mention of how many times the Spanish players went down in agony after a perfectly good tackle won the ball.

I think they are the ones with an unsportsmanlike attitude.

The Spanish got nearly all the decisions from a docile referee by play acting, and they still could not beat England.

I can't take the Spanish seriously when they complain about sportsmanship. When Michelle Agyemang went to slide tackle when we had our  backs to the wall. It is clear she didn't go through and withdrew her leg making no contact. The Spanish player jumped a mile in the air and collapsed as if she had been shot, run over by a passing lorry and trampled by a passing hippo.

The ref gave a free kick and Agyemang and the team looked so shocked by the decision. They did well to just walk away. Diving and pretending to be hurt made my respect for this great Spanish team disappear. They shouldn't need to cheat and fall down without contact. So I am surprised no England spokesperson has come out and mentioned it.

I didn't watch the celebrations. As an oldie I find all this nonsense over the top anyway. I celebrate the win and performance. But once we have interviews and then open top buses and women or men dancing to the beat. Well I always find it a bit embarrassing. Yes I know it's my fault. I bet after the war I would have been the one asking people to behave with decorum at the celebrations.
