Colchester United host Fulham under-21s in Vertu Trophy
DANNY Cowley says there will be an opportunity for Colchester United's players to stake their claim when they host Fulham under-21s in the Vertu Trophy tonight.

The U's head into their final Southern Group G clash at the JobServe Community Stadium (kick-off 7.45pm) knowing that they have already qualified for the knockout stages of the competition but can clinch a home tie in the next round, if they seal top spot with a win tonight.

Cowley is set to make plenty of changes to his starting line-up tonight, with the likes of Tom Flanagan, Will Goodwin and Rob Hunt all hoping for game time along with some of the U's younger players.

Colchester boss Cowley says it will be a good chance for players to impress.

Cowley said: "We have a perfect record in the competition, to this point.

"I've been really proud of the two performances, from the group.

"It's always a squad effort, in this competition.

"There's an opportunity for players.

"We lost on Saturday so the boys that will play will have a good opportunity to stake their claim and we will move the team around."

Colchester have won both of their group games so far in the competition, beating Wycombe Wanderers and Gillingham.

The U's will be looking to finish their group participation with another victory and bounce back following their 2-0 home defeat against Bromley, last weekend.

"We lacked conviction in the first half and then second half, we didn't find our rhythm and that's what we have to go away and look at," added Cowley.

"I don't like it when we're naïve; I thought there was some naivety in terms of giving silly fouls away and I don't like it when people come off script.

"In the second half, that was what happened and that's maybe why we're a bit frustrated."

Where is it all going wrong for Fulham?
Jack Stroudley looks at some of the reasons why Fulham sit just above the relegation zone.

The November international break is usually the point in the season where the table starts to "shake out" - and Fulham are sitting precariously outside the relegation zone by just one point. The three promoted sides are putting up a fight, West Ham are looking better under Nuno, Forest are picking up points under Dyche, and Fulham have some serious work to do. But how have we got to this point?

A tough fixture list
When the fixtures came out there was a collective groan looking at our opening run of games . Trips to Brighton, Chelsea, Aston Villa, Bournemouth, and Newcastle alongside home games against Manchester United and Arsenal in the first 11 fixtures isn't ideal.

That being said, that's the nature of the Premier League and you simply have to be at your best at all times. Yes, Fulham should've picked up an extra point here and there (Newcastle, Chelsea, etc), but that's just the way the cookie crumbles. And while our home form has been relatively good, on the road we've been nothing short of atrocious. It's something that Silva needs to address.

Injury woes
There hasn't been a time under Silva when our squad has been as under siege from injury as it has during these opening 11 games. A crucial part of how we play is with our full-backs - particularly Antonee Robinson who's yet to play a game. Kenny Tete's had some time out, Sasa Lukic and Emile Smith Rowe in midfield have been sidelined, and both Raul Jimenez and Rodrigo Muniz have both faced time on the treatment table. That's six first-teamers out injured for varying lengths, and yes we have been poor (which we will get onto), but's certainly a mitigating factor to consider.

Transfer business again?
Here's the one I'm sure everyone is waiting for. Has Marco Silva (once again) been failed by the board? There's certainly an argument to be made. I'll start by playing devil's advocate with Fulham bringing in two creative players that we'd targeted for a while, the Whites have certainly improved personnel in the wide areas.

That being said, I still think it was yet another stagnant window. Fulham took far too long to get major business done, we failed to bring in an additional midfielder or replace Andreas Pereira, and the squad still houses players who just aren't good enough anymore. then there's the signing of Jonah Kusi-Asare in the final hours, which appears to be the epitome of a panic buy (or loan). The squad in my eyes looks a bit stale (I'll get into that shortly), and that's down to another poor window.

Are we just not good enough?
Is it just this? Am I wasting my time looking for answers when the answer is staring us square in the face? Honestly, I think there's a case for it.

Everton made things look so easy on Saturday. And the reason? Dynamic, attacking and bold options all recruited over the course of the last few summers compared to Fulham who looked flat.

The squad hasn't had a major reboot in years and while those inside the club want to talk about European aspirations, is a club with players past their expiry date really going to do that? I don't think so. Yes, we broke our record points tally last season, but the reality is we've been poor since around March and it's looking like we need a bit of a reset. It's time to trim the fat and bring in some real quality. (If only there was a set period of time when you could buy and sell players to truly progress!)

Silva's farewell?
Finally, does the brunt of this fall on Silva? He's in the final year of his contract, he's arguably been once again failed by the board, and having rejected big money offers to stay, does he feel a bit deflated and just wants to see this season out?

It's a theory that I've seen a few times online and while I don't believe in the notion that Silva has lost the motivation, there's no denying that tactically he hasn't been as proactive as many would like. The continual use of both Berge and Lukic clearly isn't working, in wide areas we look flat and just generally look quite poor.

Is this on Silva, or is the overall squad just not good enough? I'd say it's six of one and half a dozen of the other.

Where do we go now?
There have plenty of mitigating factors as to why Fulham have been as poor as we have, with some more crucial than others.

The squad now has two weeks to really get get a grip on proceedings. Bring players back from injury, try out new things on the training pitch and turn this around. A tricky home game against an in-form Sunderland awaits with Spurs and Manchester City afterwards.

Take a deep breath, Fulham fans: it could get worse before it gets better.

Fulham 'Weighing Up Future' of Marco Silva After Defeat at Everton
Fulham are weighing up the future of head coach Marco Silva after the west Londoners have fallen to within a point of the Premier League's relegation zone and he has not been convinced to sign a new long-term contract at Craven Cottage, GIVEMESPORT sources have revealed.

The Cottagers were consigned to a 2-0 defeat by Everton last weekend, thanks to goals from Idrissa Gueye and Michael Keane at the Hill Dickinson Stadium, and they have been limited to three top flight victories in 11 fixtures this season.

Silva's Role Being Considered Amid Internal Tensions
Fulham are considering Silva's future in the hot-seat, according to GMS sources, after tensions have been mounting due to finding themselves in danger of being dragged into a battle to maintain their Premier League status following an underwhelming start to the campaign.

The Portuguese tactician has a release clause in the region of £15million written into his contract and attracted interest from domestic counterparts Nottingham Forest when they axed Ange Postecoglou last month, only to turn their attention towards appointing Sean Dyche as the Greek-Australian's successor.

GMS sources have been informed that Fulham's preference has been to tie Silva down to fresh terms since the summer, but he has been reluctant to put pen-to-paper and that has resulted in him being on course to walk away as a free agent at the end of the season.

The 48-year-old has been at the Cottagers' helm since July 2021 and, having clinched the Championship title in a free-scoring first term which saw his side find the back of the net 106 times, they have remained in the Premier League at the same time as threatening to challenge for European qualification.

Fulham are not rushing into making a decision on whether to sack Silva, GMS sources have been told, but vice-chairman Tony Khan and other influential figures behind the scenes are contemplating whether to act after they have dropped to within touching distance of the relegation zone.

The west Londoners will host high-flying Sunderland in their first encounter after the international break on November 22, while they are also scheduled to face Tottenham Hotspur, Manchester City, Crystal Palace, Burnley, Nottingham Forest and West Ham United in Premier League fixtures before the turn of the year.

A trip to Newcastle United in the Carabao Cup quarter-finals is also on the cards on December 17, having beaten League One side Wycombe Wanderers in a penalty shoot-out last month.

Leeds United interest in Fulham winger Harry Wilson update emerges ahead of winter transfer window
A fresh claim has emerged regarding Leeds United's interest in Fulham winger Harry Wilson.

Leeds made a well-documented move to prise Wilson from Craven Cottage on the final day of the summer transfer window.

A loan approach was rebuffed and as deadline day progressed, it appeared a permanent switch was on the cards.

However, a deal could not be done and the 28-year-old was still a Fulham player when the window slammed shut.

Reports regarding Wilson's future have continued to surface in recent months, many citing continued interest from Leeds.

Harry Wilson latest
According to Sky Sports, Leeds would still be keen on a move for the Wales international in January. However, a move for the wideman is currently deemed unlikely.

Something will have to give in the coming months, with Wilson's contract due to expire at the end of the season.

Fulham will most likely be reluctant to lose him on a free transfer and will have to sell or table fresh terms to avoid that scenario.

Marco Silva stance
In September, Fulham boss Marco Silva told the Evening Standard: "I know him very well, he's not a player that is with me just one month, two months or two years.

"It's his fifth season with us. It was my first signing in this football club when I joined and I know him very well. For me, it was never a problem and I know really how much he wants to stay in the club.

"Of course, conversations between us and his representatives as well, and let's see what is going to happen, but I know really the aim of him is to stay in the football club, and if we can get an agreement, his future is going to be with us.

"He's 100 per cent sure, he's part of the business, of course he's looking for what is best for him like the club is trying to get the best for the football club, but I know what his aim is.

"I think it's normal, a player with the quality that he has and [into the] last year [of his] contract in terms of interest in him.

"For me, it was not a situation, that was the reason he started the first Premier League game before deadline day, and he had a great pre-season, probably was the player that had the best pre-season."

Fulham could SACK Marco Silva in shock move as 'tensions mount' at Craven Cottage – multiple reports
Fulham manager Marco Silva could be relieved of his duties over the international break in a shock development, with multiple journalists claiming his job is under serious threat.

The Cottagers have had a poor start to the season, and a 2-0 defeat away to Everton over the weekend leaves them 15th in the Premier League table – only one point above the relegation zone.

Silva, 48, was appointed as Fulham boss in 2021 and has had a successful stint at the London club, securing their promotion from the Championship in the 2021/22 campaign, followed by 10th, 13th, and 11th-place finishes in the top flight. His contract expires next summer.

However, according to journalist Ben Jacobs, Silva could be sacked by Fulham due to their poor start to this season.

"Understand Fulham are weighing up the future Marco Silva," Jacobs posted on X.

"Tensions are mounting with Fulham only a point above the relegation zone. And Silva, who is a free agent this summer, has proven reluctant to sign a new deal. This has been Fulham's preference since the summer."

Jacobs' report was backed up by his talkSPORT colleague Alex Crook, and another journalist, Graeme Bailey.

"Pressure is understood to be mounting on Marco Silva and Fulham are assessing the situation," Bailey posted on X.

"They are unhappy with their start to the season. Silva is out of contract at the end of the season."

Fulham could sack Silva – but would it be a mistake?
Fulham's season has been poor so far, but Silva's job has been made more difficult by the fact that they did not invest heavily in their squad over the summer.

Brazilian winger Kevin, who has started well, and backup goalkeeper Benjamin Lecomte were their only permanent signings, for around £36m combined – almost all of which was spent on Kevin.

Striker Jonah Kusi-Asare and winger Samuel Chukwueze were also brought in on loan.

Meanwhile, the Cottagers have lost the services of Willian, Andreas Pereira, Reiss Nelson (who was on loan from Arsenal), Carlos Vinicius and others.

No one can argue that Silva has done a fantastic job at Fulham since coming in four years ago – but there is growing frustration among the fan base.

Given his previous success, it would still come as a shock for Fulham to part ways with Silva and not give him more time to turn things around, even with his previous reluctance to pen a contract extension.

But at the same time, Silva won't be short of opportunities should the London side decide to axe their manager.

For example, should Leeds United decide to part ways with Daniel Farke, bringing in a proven Premier League boss like Silva would no doubt appeal to them.

It will be interesting to see how this situation develops, with speculation increasing that Silva could be shown the exit door by Fulham's hierarchy.

Fulham weigh up future of key figure ahead of upcoming Sunderland clash amid growing tensions - reports
Sunderland face Fulham in the Premier League later this month

Fulham are "weighing up" head coach Marco Silva's future at the club ahead of his side's Premier League clash against Sunderland later this month, according to reports.

The Black Cats travel to Craven Cottage after the international break, and will be looking to build on a hugely promising start to their long-awaited top flight return, during which they have lost just twice and climbed up to fourth in the table.

For their part, however, Fulham have started rather sluggishly, and find themselves just one point outside of the relegation zone after losing four of their last five league outings. Their most recent defeat came at the hands of Everton on Saturday, with the Toffees having three goals ruled out in a comfortable 2-0 victory.

Reflecting on his side's performance on Merseyside, Silva said: "We got what we deserved from the game, definitely. We played 20 minutes in all the game, I think. We lost the game through the physicality, we could not handle at all the physicality of Everton side.

"You can see throughout the game, all the chances – even the disallowed goals – they created. They came from the second action after long throws, corners or wide free-kicks. When these type of things happen, it is not a bad tactical point of view, it's a moment that you have to use certain type of tools that the Premier League demands of you, it's as simple as that. Some teams play one way, others play another and you have to be able to handle it."

What has been said about Marco Silva's future at Fulham ahead of Sunderland clash?
And off the back of Fulham's indifferent start to the season, and with tensions reportedly mounting behind the scenes over an inability to agree terms on a prospective contract extension, talkSPORT now claim that a decision could be made on Silva's future sooner rather than later.

An excerpt from the national title's report states: "As it stands the Portuguese will be a free agent when his current contract expires at the end of the season. Silva has never been shy to voice his frustration over the club's lack of spending and admitted he "expected more" from their summer transfer window.

"It is thought the Fulham hierarchy are also concerned the Cottagers could be dragged into a relegation battle after Saturday's limp 2-0 defeat at Everton left them a point above the bottom three."

This fresh update comes just weeks after Fulham owner Shahid Khan insisted that Silva was part of his long-term thinking in West London, explaining in an interview with talkSPORT: "He's been great. I really like him, not only as a person, [but] as a football manager, head coach. Definitely, I think he's in our long-term plans."

Sunderland travel to face Fulham on Saturday, November 22nd. It will be the first time the two sides have met since February 2023, when the Cottagers knocked the Black Cats out of the FA Cup in a replay at the Stadium of Light.

Fulham have 'no choice' but to invest amid '£40m' reveal
Fulham's redevelopment of Craven Cottage and expansion of its hospitality offering was required for the clubs future in the Premier League.

That is according to football finance expert Dr Dan Plumley who exclusively told Football Insider the reasons why Fulham owner Shahid Khan has invested up to £350million into reviving Craven Cottage.

Khan wrote off £70m worth of loans at Fulham and converted them into shares in July amid the work at the clubs West London home.

The Cottagers want to increase revenue to bolster their financial status in the Premier League, with Fulham's 2-0 defeat at Everton currently having Marco Silva's side just one point above the relegation zone.

Fulham 'over reliant on tv money' amid stadium expansion
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, Plumley understands Fulham's decision to offer extra hospitality at Craven Cottage in a bid to bridge the gap between the Premier League's biggest club's.

"That is a lot of investment, and you have to do that to grow stadium revenue. There's no two ways about it," Plumley said.

"In infrastructure costs, you can't get away from that, but what you are doing is trying to future proof and grow long term revenue.

"A lot of these clubs are kind of getting backed into the corner, they've almost got to do it.

"And again, if you look at Fulham's match day revenue, in the last set of accounts, it's £18million.  So that's a lot of money.

"But it's not a lot of money in the context of some of the other clubs that will be generating £30 to £40m from matchday.

"The biggest clubs in the Premier League are generating a £100m to £120m from match day revenue.

"Now I know Fulham are not competing with Liverpool, but you can see the gap.

"So in a world where broadcasting money is unearned by the club, it's dictated to by the broadcasters and what they're prepared to pay.

"You only have two ways in which you can grow your own revenue. One is match day and one is commercial, unless you're really thinking outside the box.

"So the only way you grow match day revenue is either increase ticket prices or build new stadium or expand and look at corporate hospitality. You can absolutely see why Fulham are doing it.

"They are one of the clubs at the minute that you would put in that mix of being over reliant on TV money to sustain revenue, that is the challenge.

"So part of this is about how do we mitigate that to a degree, that it does come at a cost. I think it's not just Fulham.

"There's a lot of clubs in the Premier League that are in that middle ground, a middle pack that have to do this. And, you know, that does come at a price, but they've got no choice."

Marco Silva could leave Fulham
Fulham want to keep Marco Silva at the club, with the 48 year olds contract expiring at the end of the current season.

Silva wants Fulham to show ambition, and extra revenue gained from the stadium expansion could help the club in convincing the Portuguese to stay.

The Cottagers had a quiet summer transfer window, and will be expected to be busier in January given their current position in the Premier League table.

Fulham 'schedule' Marco Silva talks as Cottagers make contract decision amid sack rumours
Fulham are reportedly prepared to hold contract talks with Marco Silva despite speculation suggesting that he could be sacked.

The Cottagers have entered the international break on the back of a poor run of form that has seen them lose five times in six Premier League matches.

Silva's side fell to a 2-0 defeat in Saturday's away clash against Everton, leaving them in 15th place and just one point above the drop zone.

The Fulham boss, who was left frustrated by the club's summer transfer business, is arguably experiencing his toughest period since taking over the reins at Craven Cottage in the summer of 2021.

Fulham considering Silva sack decision
According to talkSPORT, the Fulham hierarchy are weighing up Silva's future following the team's recent poor form and the manager's uncertain contract situation.

The report claims that 'tensions are mounting' at the club due to Silva's reluctance to put pen to paper on a new deal.

As it stands, Silva will be free to walk away from his position when his current contract expires at the end of the season.

Silva has previously been linked with a number of jobs, including managerial roles in Saudi Arabia and the Nottingham Forest post before the appointment of Sean Dyche.

Fulham ready to engage in Silva contract talks
Rather than sacking Silva, the i are reporting that Fulham are keen to hold talks with their manager to resolve his uncertain future.

Fulham owner Shahid Khan has travelled to London to hold fresh discussions with Silva's camp over a new contract.

Those talks are set to take place this week, although the Cottagers have tabled a 'detailed new proposal'.

Fulham's preference is to keep the Portuguese coach at the club, but they may have to remain patient in their quest to extend his stay.

That is because Silva is widely expected to take his time and assess his options before committing to a fresh contract.

Marco Silva facing Fulham sack as club consider stunning decision to remove popular manager amid contract impasse and 'relegation fears'
Marco Silva could reportedly be sacked by Fulham as the club are considering a change due to their poor start to the season and slow contract negotiations. A dismal 2-0 defeat at Everton last weekend has deepened the gloom at Craven Cottage. Goals from Idrissa Gueye and Michael Keane condemned Fulham to another frustrating loss with the manager looking bereft of answers.

From dream to disarray at Fulham
According to talkSPORT, Fulham's hierarchy are seriously considering showing the door to Silva amid growing fears of a relegation fight and a contract standoff that shows no sign of resolution. Eleven games into the Premier League season, and Fulham's top scorer is not one of their players but 'own goals'. Harry Wilson and Ryan Sessegnon have each chipped in with two goals but they have scored three with help from the opposition. Their away form is also grim having collected just one point on the road this season, when a late equaliser from Rodrigo Muniz against Brighton helped them eke out a draw. All three of their wins have come at Craven Cottage, and even those have relied on fortunate own goals.

Contract chaos with Silva
Behind the scenes, tensions have been simmering for months. Silva, who has a £15 million ($20m) release clause, has so far refused to sign a new contract, leaving Fulham in a precarious position. The Portuguese coach's current deal expires next summer, meaning he could walk away as a free agent. According to GMS, Fulham's board, led by vice-chairman Tony Khan, have been desperate to tie Silva down to fresh terms since July. But negotiations have stalled, with the manager reportedly frustrated by the club's lack of ambition in the transfer market. Fulham's only major signing last summer was Kevin, a Brazilian winger from Shakhtar Donetsk, who was brought onboard for around £34.6m ($45.5m). For a side trying to build on mid-table stability, it wasn't simply enough.

Speaking in August, Silva didn't hide his disappointment. "It's not an ideal scenario," he admitted. "Did I expect more? Of course. But the market is the market."

Fulham would be daft to sack Marco Silva as their fall into relegation picture is all their doing
Marco Silva was always going to leave Fulham in 2026, but club chiefs are foolishly considering parting ways sooner and this is all their fault...

Over the past year, it has become abundantly clear that Silva and Fulham are growing apart, with a separation increasingly likely in 2026.

Silva is one of several Premier League managers in the final year of his contract at his current club, with the former Everton and Watford head coach among a trio of bosses far more likely to leave than sign new deals.

He has done a wonderful job since arriving at Fulham after their relegation from the Premier League in 2021, earning promotion from the Championship at the first time of asking and comfortably guiding them to safety in three consecutive seasons with a trio of mid-table finishes.

Silva features in a rare group of managers who bucked a growing trend of clubs going straight back down after sealing promotion to the Premier League, and he has gained admirers from clubs further afield as he has earned a bigger opportunity.

The 48-year-old has batted away interest from the Saudi Pro League previously, but it has become evident that he has itchy feet as Fulham have not matched his ambitions in recent transfer windows.

This was particularly the case this summer, with the Cottagers having gone most of the window without a signing, as their supporters, pundits and, most importantly, Silva, became agitated at their lack of business.

Fulham finally got a couple of deals done in the final days of the summer window, landing Kevin from Shakhtar Donetsk for around £35m and Samuel Chukwueze on loan from AC Milan, but this was likely not enough to appease Silva as the club have asked for trouble with their alarming lack of ambition.

It's been obvious that their board have taken their foot off the gas of late, while naively assuming that they would be safe in the Premier League for another year with the same squad as last season, with the quality of the sides coming up from the Championship generally way below those in the top flight.

However, Fulham, like West Ham and Wolves, have been caught out by Sunderland, Leeds United and Burnley being more competitive than most expected, with these clubs subsequently sleepwalking into trouble.

This has been evidenced by Fulham's recent decline, with the 2-0 loss to Everton at the weekend raising alarm bells as they have slipped to within a single point of the Premier League relegation zone.

There now appears to be panic stations at Fulham, with talkSPORT reporting that his future has been 'thrown into doubt' as they 'weigh up' parting ways with his head coach.

There are said to be 'concerns' about their position in the Premier League, while 'tensions are mounting due to Silva's reluctance to sign a new deal'.

Possibly in response to this report, Silva has suddenly become the favourite to be the next Premier League manager to be sacked, as the infamous November window could strike again.

On this occasion, Fulham would be incredibly daft to sack Silva, as they have little chance of finding a potential replacement who is not a downgrade. They also risk slumping into a Nottingham Forest-esque mess, which can easily be avoided by sticking with their current boss to guide them to safety again.

Fulham's own actions have massively contributed to their current panic, and it makes Silva even less likely to extend his contract beyond this summer.

Colchester United beat Fulham U21s in the Vertu Trophy
LATE goals from substitutes Samson Tovide and Jack Tucker sealed Colchester United a 2-0 win over Fulham under-21s tonight to ensure they finished top of their Vertu Trophy group.

It was a deserved win for the U's at the JobServe Community Stadium but the U's had to be patient to make the breakthrough, with Fulham goalkeeper Alfie McNally in fine form.

Colchester boss Danny Cowley, who watched the game from high in the West Stand, made nine changes to his starting line-up for their final Vertu Trophy group game, against Hayden Mullins' Fulham under-21 side.

Teddy Bishop and Kyreece Lisbie were the only players to retain their places in the side following last weekend's defeat to Bromley, with Cowley giving some of his other players a chance to shine.

Will Goodwin made his first start since the opening day of the season, while midfielder Milton Oni was in the U's first-team starting line-up for the first time since suffering a serious knee injury in August, 2024.

Captain Tom Flanagan returned from injury to take his place at the heart of the U's defence while the likes of Sam Kuffour Jnr, Josh Powell and John-Kymani Gordon also got the chance to impress and Kaion Lisbie was among the substitutes, after being included in the Colchester first-team squad for the first time.

Cowley had said prior to the game that it was a chance for players to stake their claim for a place in his starting line-up and Colchester started brightly.

They were almost ahead in the 11th minute when Fulham goalkeeper Alfie McNally made a super save to deny Goodwin's first-time effort from point-blank range, after Kyreece Lisbie had beaten Brad De Jesus down the right and delivered a low cross into the six-yard box.

Colchester went close again soon after when Flanagan's goalbound volley was blocked in the six-yard box by a Fulham defender while only a tidy piece of defending prevented John Kymani Gordon from getting on the end of Lisbie's dangerous low cross at the far post, following Oni's brilliant run and pass.

Colchester dominated the possession and went close again four minutes before the break when Jaden Williams' header was well saved at close range by Mcnally after Sam Kuffour Jnr had helped on Powell's corner.

But the sides went in level at the break and Colchester were made to work hard in their quest to make a breakthrough, by the Premier League side's talented youngsters.

Goodwin fired wide first time from a quickly-taken corner from half-time substitute Arthur Read before Colchester were presented with a golden opportunity to take the lead in the 57th minute when they were awarded a penalty, after Alfie White was adjudged to have fouled Gordon in the box, following Read's corner.

But Williams' penalty was saved low to his right by Mcnally and the chance went begging.

Kaion Lisbie was sent on for his professional debut for Colchester just after the hour mark after replacing his brother Kyreece and Tovide was also introduced, as the U's searched for a winner.

Colchester dominated proceedings in the second half and Read turned his marker well before driving a low shot wide of the far post with 20 minutes remaining.

And Read went close again soon after with a low effort from the edge of the area that was well saved by McNally, after Tovide had laid the ball into his path.

Colchester had a penalty appeal rejected after Williams was sent flying by the on-rushing McNally in the area before the hosts finally made the breakthrough, in the 80th minute.

After good play by Kaion Lisbie and Rob Hunt in the build up, Tovide struck a superb shot into the far corner past the despairing McNally, to give the U's a deserved lead.

Gordon's curled effort was brilliantly tipped over the bar by McNally before substitute Tucker sealed Colchester's lead in the 88th minute when he nodded home Read's corner.

Report: Fulham could be set to sack Marco Silva in shock move
Fulham Turmoil As Pressure Builds On Marco Silva

Fulham find themselves wrestling with the early narrative of their season, and the rising tension around Marco Silva's future has become a dominant storyline. The original report made clear that internal concerns are growing, and the mood around Craven Cottage reflects an unease that has built week by week. The 2-0 defeat at Everton left Fulham 15th, just a single point above danger, and insiders are beginning to question whether stability can still be guaranteed under Silva.

Rising Concern Inside Craven Cottage
The situation has escalated quickly according to multiple journalists. Teamtalk reported on Ben Jacobs statement, "Understand Fulham are weighing up the future Marco Silva," adding that "tensions are mounting with Fulham only a point above the relegation zone." This was reaffirmed by Alex Crook and Graeme Bailey, who noted that the club are "unhappy with their start to the season." When several well-connected reporters align on the same message, the pattern is difficult to ignore.

The backdrop to this tension includes Silva's reluctance to extend a contract that expires next summer. The club preferred clarity months ago, and the failure to make progress on that front has left decision makers feeling exposed at a moment when results have dipped.

Recruitment Issues And Squad Transition
Fulham's limited activity in the summer window has contributed to the unease. Only two permanent arrivals, Kevin and Benjamin Lecomte, came in for around £36 million, with almost all of that allocated to Kevin. Loan additions Jonah Kusi-Asare and Samuel Chukwueze added bodies but not guaranteed influence. Meanwhile, Willian, Reiss Nelson, Carlos Vinicius and others departed, leaving Silva with a thinner and less experienced group. It is no surprise that some close to the club believe the manager has been constrained in shaping a competitive squad.

One source referenced in the reporting suggested that Silva "has done a fantastic job at Fulham since coming in four years ago," yet there is a growing sense that past success provides no shield from present dissatisfaction.

Future Path And Potential Consequences
If Fulham act during the international break, it would represent a decisive moment for a club that has generally valued continuity. There will be interest in Silva if he becomes available, with the original article hinting that clubs like Leeds United could view him as a credible Premier League-level appointment. Fulham know that once they part ways, there is no reverse gear.

The coming days carry significance, and while there is still time for the hierarchy to resist immediate change, speculation is only likely to intensify.

Our View – EPL Index Analysis
From a Fulham supporter perspective, this developing story triggers real anxiety. Many fans feel disappointed by results, but the idea of sacking Marco Silva feels like a reaction that ignores the wider structural context. There is admiration for what Silva built since 2021, including a style of play that restored identity and gave the club a foothold in the Premier League. The concern now comes from the belief that the squad is materially weaker than last season, and that this is the true source of the decline.

Some fans would argue that the recruitment strategy left too much responsibility on the shoulders of emerging players. There is appreciation for Kevin's promise, but supporters know that experienced Premier League quality has not been replaced. The loss of Willian and Pereira removed creativity, and the club did not reinforce with similar profiles. Many supporters fear that sacking Silva would be letting the one dependable figure leave while deeper issues remain unaddressed.

Others worry that a change now would create instability at a delicate point. With a tough winter schedule ahead, fans question whether a new manager bounce is guaranteed. There is also a fear that once Silva moves on, he will thrive elsewhere and Fulham will be left wondering what might have been with better backing.
