Amazing story of her life in Poland during and after the war and surviving the holocaust. 40 odd minutes long. Makes me realise how lucky i have been during a virtually trouble/stress free life at age 77.

Baszab

Today it is Holocaust Memorial Day
Over 50% of schools in 2026 have reduced their commemorations
Not being political - but this is so sad for future generations

It was a remarkable story - makes one realise we have a lot to be grateful for

A lovely lady who shared a small part of her story so well.

My daughter went on a school trip to Auschwitz a few years ago and she told me how it affected her and made her aware of the dangers of antisemitism.

I am not Jewish but I stand with them wholeheartedly!

Can't even see anything on the bbc regarding the Holocaust Memorial Day, sad times when this can't make the news because of political unrest or concern of offence and backlash.

Gloucester White

In the 50s I went n a school trip to Belsen. Most noticable was the absence of any birds in the trees. It seemed that they could somehow sense the death.

I don't think you've looked hard enough. Sad times when people jump to negative conclusions without the facts.

The Cravenette

The film One Life about Sir Nicholas Winton was on BBC2 last night. Defiance is on tonight.  Neither difficult to find. Also a holocaust reading on the One Show shortly.

Good on the club for producing this, and quite agree on comments regarding anti-semitism and also to extent that more broadly about demonisation about any group of people. We are certainly in a time where politics that sow division have grown in popularity.

Why should you have to look or search for one of the biggest remembrance days in history? it's not in the main pages in the bbc news, but hidden in the regional news for some reason. Sad that you seem ok with that and happy to say about negative conclusions without facts, but have totally missed the point that the articles are squirreled away for such a remembrance, says a lot about you I guess.

it was on bbc main page last night

Colton F.C.

That's correct. It was on the main page just under the Carol Kirkwood retirement splash.
