Not sure about Iwobi on the wing but at least with Robinson he has the overlap to make up for lack of pace.

Surprised to see ESR on bench but guess rotation is important to ensure fitness into last stretch.

Wouldn't have changed things personally but still a strong team.

Deffo woulda played bobb though, he was brilliant v tottenham

Happy for Diop, he deserves his start and earn it

Interesting. A lot of rotation. Not sure why we didn't rotate in Muniz as well. Obvious subs will be ESR, Bobb, Sess and Muniz on in the 2H.

I am also surprised Muniz isn't starting.

Otherwise that team suggests to me that we'll field a strong team against Southampton, which I am very happy about!

Still regaining fitness, Raul did relatively well v spurs, I'd think muniz starts in the cup. Right way to do it I reckon

Agree Raul's fitness is top level. Just would be nice to give him a breather.

I'm not at all sure about Iwobi back out on the wing, especially when he's just started hitting form in midfield. In fact I'm not at all sure I'd have made these wholesale changes to a the eleven that started against Spurs but I'm sure Marco will prove me wrong.

I suspect Bobb not starting is a fitness call. He'd not been playing and I'd imagine Marco is building him back up slowly.

Agree on Diop. I still think JA is the superior CB but his performance last match earned the start today.

I personally think it's his best position.

But regardless of that, with both Kevin and Wilson out, if we played Chukwueze and Bobb on the wings, we'd have no wingers on the bench. And that would be terrible.

Good team but would have preferred ESR instead of King, but happy with it.

Agree - and whilst I am a big fan of TC - I wouldn't start him tonight - but bring him on to control the game later.

Unless we held back Iwobi on the bench. Just a thought.

The correct team, considering availability, imo
Diop - I'm pleased, because I thought Marco might go straight back to Anderson!
Also, I think Sess poor in defence recently.
Tom can be a really effective midfielder and Lukic can be used later.

It seems like since Muniz's second injury we've been very careful with managing injured players that came back.

Muniz participated in training for a while before he was reintroduced to the squad. Same with Lukic now, who Marco said will probably be available for the previous match, but he's back now and on the bench. Same thing happened with Tete. Marco was saying he was fit, but he was out od the squad and then on the bench before he came back to the starting eleven, after previously training with the squad already.

You can also look at examples of players who have picked up knocks/illnesses, like Robinson, TC, Chukwueze, Andersen and now Wilson. None of them were rushed back.

I think this could be important for the end of this season, as we might have a squad that is close to a full squad in the final games of the season.

Interesting point. I guess that was also possible, but Bobb came back from injury pretty recently, it's probably better to give him rest than Iwobi, as Iwobi rarely gets injured anyway.

Not sure about a couple of the selections and also assume Cuenca is injured. I wont be too critical though, dont want to be accused of being negative, just hope we win and continue the momentum to trying to get into a position to play in Europe.  ::scarf::

I think Marco knows what he's going to get with ESR. So if King is bullied off the ball, bringing on ESR early is an improvement that will take us to the end of the game. We've also got Sess and Bobb availbel from the bench to provide a strong finish on the wings.

I don't think he is. We really don't need to have 4 defenders on the bench (half of our outfield players).

v

Lukic will be on at sometime in second half?

I'm guessing were playing 4 3 3....but I'm usually wrong
