BBC Sport: 48-year-old set to be candidate for Chelsea job, crucial factor could help him
Fulham manager Marco Silva is set to be a candidate for the vacant Chelsea job this summer according to reports.

Liam Rosenior was sacked by Chelsea on Wednesday evening less than four months after signing a six and a half year contract.

The final straw was a 3-0 defeat to Brighton on Tuesday night, which was Chelsea's fifth consecutive league defeat without scoring.

Marco Silva a candidate for Chelsea job
Calum McFarlane has been put in interim charge for the remainder of the season, whilst Chelsea take their time to conduct their search for a new head coach.

Andoni Iraola is reportedly the front runner, and the Spaniard has already announced he'll be leaving Bournemouth at the end of the season.

It's believed there could be between five to ten candidates for the job, and BBC Sport have reported Silva is set to be an option.

The report adds the fact Silva is represented by Jorge Mendes, who's known to have a good relationship with the Chelsea board would ease any move.

Silva is out of contract with Fulham at the end of the season, and it looks very unlikely he'll pen a new deal to extend his stay at Craven Cottage.

'Tempting him' – Fulham willing to offer €35m to secure transfer
Fulham are chasing Bayer Leverkusen's Malik Tillman ahead of the summer.

The attacking midfielder spent two years at PSV Eindhoven, after initially joining them on loan from Bayern Munich.

Last summer, the 23-year-old returned to Germany to join Bayer Leverkusen for €35m.  This move hasn't worked out quite well and Fulham can offer him an escape route.

The Germany-born America international has scored eight goals and contributed one assist from 38 matches so far.

His league stats this season are as follows:

    Appearances: 25
    Starts: 17
    Total minutes: 1,563
    Minutes per game: 63
    Goals: 6
    Assists: 0
    Expected Goals: 4.38
    Expected Assists: 2.44
    Big chances created: 7
    Big chances missed: 5

Situation favours Fulham
Bild now report Malik Tillman is considering leaving the German club after this season.

When discussing suitors, Marco Silva's side get a mention and are 'tempting him'. It's further claimed the London club 'want to sign' him and Brentford are also keen.

The two English clubs, who already showed interest in him in 2025, are willing to pay €35m to the Bundesliga side.

Bayer Leverkusen sporting director Simon Rolfes is aware of the player's frustration. The club bosses have faith in him and are looking to avoid a sale in the summer.

However, their only chance to retain him is Kasper Hjulmand is no longer in charge after this season. If the Dane were to continue, Tillman will push for a transfer, at the latest after the World Cup.

His situation in Germany clearly favours Fulham and other suitors. Although Silva's side are keen, it needs to be seen whether any of them will make a concrete offer.

Contract, value and agent info
Two years ago, Sport Witness relayed news of his desire to make a switch to the Premier League. Fulham, the Bees or another top flight English club could fulfil his wish in the next window.

Malik Tillman has a contract until 2030 and Transfermarkt value him at €30m. The highest was €35m in October 2025.

Agency Roof are taking care of the Bayer Leverkusen player's interest and future.

The quiet advantage Marco Silva already has in race to become the new Chelsea manager
Chelsea are going to take their time before announcing the new permanent manager to replace Liam Rosenior, although Marco Silva has an early advantage in the race for the job because of his agent.

A whirlwind 24 hours for Liam Rosenior started with the damning 3-0 defeat to Brighton, and ended with the club deciding to sack him from his role.

Chelsea players were nicknaming the boss a 'supply teacher', and clearly didn't have the respect required to lead the Blues to where they should be, near the top of the Premier League table.

Marco Silva being represented by Jorge Mendes gives him advantage in race for Chelsea job
A number of candidates have already been mentioned to take the job at the end of the season, with Fulham's Marco Silva on the club's list.

His current contract at the fellow West London club expires at the end of the campaign, and his agent could play a part in getting him a move to Stamford Bridge.

According to BBC Sport, Silva's agent is Jorge Mendes, who has developed a close relationship with the Chelsea owners since they took over the club.

Mendes represents the likes of Pedro Neto, Enzo Maresca and Valentin Barco, who looks set to join the club this summer.

No decision is expected until the end of the season, with Calum McFarlane set to take charge of the Blues until that point.

Marco Silva's managerial record
Silva has won 266 of his 549 games in management, an impressive record when taking into account the sides he has managed.

He has led Fulham to another decent season this time around. They sit just three points behind a Chelsea side that are currently in freefall.

The Portuguese manager also has a victory over Chelsea to his name in the last two seasons, beating them on Boxing Day 2024 and in January of this season.

With the club seeming to be prioritising Premier League experience for their next appointment, Silva remains a genuine candidate to become the next permanent head coach at Stamford Bridge.

Barkley starts, Sancho decision - Aston Villa starting XI vs Fulham predicted
Unai Emery has a few selection dilemmas for Aston Villa's trip to Fulham in the Premier League this weekend

Aston Villa can take another significant step towards qualifying for the Champions League with a victory over Fulham on Saturday.

Unai Emery's side travel to Craven Cottage aiming for their sixth win in seven matches across all competitions, and a third consecutive victory following home successes against Bologna and Sunderland.

Villa appeared to be cruising against the Black Cats last time out, only for two late goals to spark an unlikely comeback. However, Tammy Abraham struck in the 93rd minute to secure all three points.

Fulham, meanwhile, sit just three points behind Chelsea in eighth place - a position that could be enough to secure European football this season.

Marco Silva's side have struggled for consistency, winning just one of their last six matches - a home victory over already-relegated Burnley. Since the start of February, they have also suffered defeats to Everton, West Ham and Southampton in the FA Cup.

Emery is expected to provide a team news update during his pre-match press conference on Friday.

Emi Martínez should start in goal, likely behind a back four of Matty Cash, Ezri Konsa, Pau Torres and Lucas Digne.

Amadou Onana and Youri Tielemans are set to anchor midfield, with Ross Barkley operating further forward. Morgan Rogers and John McGinn are expected to also support striker Ollie Watkins in attack.

Jadon Sancho is another option for Emery, but after his poor cameo off the bench against Sunderland, he could be left in reserve once again on Saturday.

Despite losing just two of their first 13 Premier League home games against Villa, Fulham have now been beaten in three of their last four meetings with them at Craven Cottage.

Another concern for Silva's side is their record against stronger opposition - seven of their last eight Premier League wins have come against teams starting the day in the bottom half, while they have managed just one victory in their last nine against sides in the top half.

Aston Villa predicted XI vs Fulham: Martinez; Cash, Konsa, Torres, Digne; Onana, Tielemans, McGinn, Barkley, Rogers; Watkins.

Chelsea considering shock move for "incredible" Premier League manager instead of Iraola
Chelsea are eyeing Fulham's Marco Silva to become their new manager, having sacked Liam Rosenior following the 3-0 loss at Brighton.

The Blues' form has nosedived since mid-March, losing their last five Premier League games on the spin, and the heavy defeat at the American Express Stadium was the final straw for the owners, with Rosenior losing his job on Wednesday.

Gary Neville has since taken aim at BlueCo's policy of signing youngsters and handing out long deals to players and managers, saying: "The owners have got it badly wrong. I said at the time, they've got a group of talented players, young sporting directors in respect of the experience relating to Europe, you've got an ownership that's young in respect that it's only two or three years in. You need some experience somewhere in the club.

"These six-year, eight-year agreements, it's almost laughable from the start. Whether it's for a manager or a player. The owners don't have a clue what they're doing."

Rosenior's CV prior to moving to Stamford Bridge wasn't exactly impressive, having spent time at Derby County, Hull City and Strasbourg, and it is perhaps about time the owners made a statement by bringing in a manager with more experience.

Andoni Iraola could fit the bill, having proven himself in the Premier League over the past three years with AFC Bournemouth, and contact has already been made regarding a move to west London.

The Spaniard has Bournemouth pushing for Europe, with his side overtaking Chelsea in the Premier League table after drawing 2-2 against Leeds United on Wednesday night.

Iraola isn't the only Premier League boss on the shortlist though, as a report from the BBC states Fulham manager Silva is under consideration, with his contract at Craven Cottage set to expire at the end of the season.

Much like Iraola, the 48-year-old has built up plenty of Premier League experience, and he is the third-longest serving manager in the top flight, having been with the Cottagers since July 2021.

Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe has lauded the ex-Everton boss, who prefers to use a 4-2-3-1 formation, as "incredible", and he has lifted four trophies during his managerial career, but it would be a shock to see him move to a West London rival.

That said, while Silva is vastly experienced in the Premier League, he hasn't really proven himself at the very highest level, having taken charge of just 26 European matches, which would make him a somewhat questionable appointment.

Fulham and AFC Bournemouth become latest clubs linked with Leeds United's Pascal Struijk
Fulham and AFC Bournemouth become the latest clubs to be linked with Leeds United star Pascal Struijk

Fulham and AFC Bournemouth are the latest clubs to have been linked with Leeds United defender Pascal Struijk.

The centre-back arrived at Leeds from Ajax's academy as a teenager in 2018, winning a contract after a successful trial.

He has blossomed into an established senior figure, becoming one of Daniel Farke's most trusted lieutenants, and is nearing the 200-appearance milestone.

The 26-year-old is under contract at Elland Road until 2027 and as the final year of his deal approaches, transfer speculation has been circulating.

Pascal Struijk latest
Aston Villa and Newcastle United, as well as Leeds' Premier League relegation battle rivals Tottenham Hotspur, have been credited with interest in the former Netherlands youth international.

According to SportsBoom, there is interest from Bournemouth as they plan a bolstering of their backline.

Fulham have been described as long-term admirers of Struijk, although it has been claimed they will hold off on transfer plans until there is clarity over the future of manager Marco Silva.

Reports have suggested Leeds want to keep Struijk and the latest has indicated the Whites want to tie him down to a new contract.

It now remains to be seen what the future holds for the cultured centre-back, who impressed in Leeds' 2-2 draw with Bournemouth last night (April 22).

Settling at Leeds United
In a recent interview on 'The Official Leeds United Podcast', Struijk lifted the lid on his decision to join Leeds eight years ago.

He said: "There was two places I could have gone to. One was a team in Holland, called Groningen, which more towards the north, and play in the second team.

"Or, I could go for a trial here at Leeds and see how this is feeling, take a big step into a new country and moving. I decided it was better for me to take a big step and see how I develop as a person.

"It was such a big step away from home. It's not like I'm still in the same country, I can rely on my parents or I can rely on coming back and forth.

"It's more like, I want to put myself in this position, throw myself in the deep end, see how I grow or develop from this situation, because I feel there is no right or wrong. I can only see if I put myself up to that challenge, to see how I develop from there. That is something that has worked out really well for me."

A summer of change is a scary prospect
Or could this be an opportunity?

On Wednesday, Ryan Sessegnon signed a contract extension - or, more accurately, the club triggered the extension clause in the contract he signed in 2024. It will keep at Fulham for a third consecutive season following his emotional return that July.

This deal makes sense for everyone, of course. It's impossible to overlook the nostalgic element to Ryan Sessegnon's renaissance at Fulham - one of our own returning to the Cottage. I've written before about what this means to the fanbase, and how our starboy returning was never something I thought we'd see.

It makes sense on the pitch too. Ryan Sessegnon is a versatile player who can play in forward positions as well as defensively, and he's good enough to step into the left-back position when Antonee Robinson is injured or out of form without too much for fans to worry about. (I'm not sure the same can be said for our other defensive back-ups, but that's a problem for another article.)

And, finally, it makes sense for Ryan. He knows the club and, crucially, knows what it's like to try your hand at a 'big six' move and that not work out. He's almost 26 now and seems settled in London with his young family.

The Sess extension deserves to be celebrated, but I'm not sure it was ever in doubt. It's when I look at the rest of the squad that I start to feel uncertain. With the lack of squad regeneration last summer, we feel slightly tired.

Defensive midfield is a great example of this; we haven't made personnel changes in the squad in the last couple of years, and as much as Silva has experimented with bringing Tom Cairney and Alex Iwobi deeper, it feels like we, as fans, are having the conversations we were having in 2024 when Joao Palhinha departed.

This is all before we talk about the biggest elephants in the room: the futures of the players out of contract this summer. Raul Jimenez is on the cusp of turning 35, and is not getting any younger. On the one hand, it doesn't feel wise for Fulham to extend his deal because of his age profile and the wages that come along with that. However, replacing him will be a mammoth task: he's been one of Fulham's most important and underrated players over the last three years, racking up 31 goals. He has the best penalty record in the history of the Premier League, and after years with Aleksander Mitrovic as our penalty taker, it's a relief to have a striker who's so reliable from the spot.

George Cooper wrote this wonderful article recently about why Raul deserves cult hero status at the club, and it's hard to disagree. Those are some huge shoes to fill in 2026/27, assuming Jimenez departs Fulham this summer. Raul's intelligence in front of goal would be impossible to replace for the £5.5m we initially spent on him in 2023.

We've got to talk about Harry Wilson. Rumours around his expected departure from the club have bombarded Fulham fans for the last six months, as we're increasingly aware of the ticking time-bomb that is his contract. The latest club on the rumour circuit is Aston Villa - and that seems to fit. He'll get a chunkier wage packet for sure, and probably Champions League football. I'm hugely concerned about a future without Harry Wilson, especially as we won't have a fee from a sale to reinvest into the squad. (If he wasn't in his final year of his contract, we could easily get £40m plus for him, I reckon.)

Wilson is a form player. I still believe he doesn't have the consistency to play for a big six club - and that sounds like a criticism. But it's not really; he's the origin of so many good things we've done and results we've achieved, because he has the skill and chutzpah to put this team on his back and create a moment. See Spurs Away this season: he clamped on a loose pass from goalkeeper Vicario and guided the ball perfectly into the net from near the sideline. Are any other players in this squad managing that? I'd argue not.

This summer all comes back to the same thing though, wherever we turn. There are still positive talks around Marco Silva's contract, according to no-one but Marco Silva. It's 23 April. Six months ago, I thought he was definitely staying, but time is simply running out. If I was a pessimist (some might say realist), I would have my head in hands, thinking about Fulham losing two crucial players and the best manager of my time supporting the club (all for free!).

But, I'm an optimist. The future is uncertain, but this could provide a huge opportunity: who knows what the managerial market will look like in the summer, with so many managers leaving mid-table clubs (Glasner, Iraola - and Liam Rosenior is back on the market, it turns out!) and the small matter of a 48-team World Cup? We could end up with something much better than we ever dreamed.

It's hard to know what 26/27 will look like at Craven Cottage - but at least we know that Ryan Sessegnon will be there.

Marco Silva v The Football Association
Nick De Marco KC acted for Marco Silva, Head Coach of Fulham Football Club, in an appeal against a decision of an FA Regulatory Commission imposing a one-match touchline ban and fine on Mr Silva for a breach of FA Rule E3.1 in respect of media comments he made about a match official. The Appeal Board allowed the appeal in part, agreeing to suspend the touchline ban to only come into operation upon a repeat breach by Mr Silva occurring before the end of the 2026/27 season.

The Appeal Board's reasons discuss the weighing up of aggravating and mitigating factors in cases of this type and their relevance to the discretion to suspend a sanction. They are available here.

Chelsea considering three next manager candidates to replace Liam Rosenior after sacking
After Liam Rosenior was sacked by Chelsea, football.london has a look at three potential replacements the Blues are reportedly considering

Chelsea are considering Andoni Iraola, Marco Silva and Champions League finalist Edin Terzic as potential replacements for Liam Rosenior, according to reports. Chelsea sacked Rosenior on Wednesday, less than four months after appointing him as Enzo Maresca's replacement.

His sacking proceeded the limp 3-0 away defeat to Brighton and Hove Albion, which resulted in travelling Chelsea fans chanting "f*** off Rosenior". For the sixth time, the BlueCo and Clearlake Capital ownership are pondering who to appoint next.

Former U21s boss Calum McFarlane will take charge until the end of the campaign. There will be plenty of candidates for Chelsea to choose from in the summer.

According to BBC Sport, amongst those are the aforementioned trio. Iraola recently confirmed he will depart Bournemouth at the end of the Premier League campaign.

He has also been linked with a move to Athletic Bilbao, the team he played for as a player. However, there will be plenty of suitors for the Spaniard, who is on the brink of guiding the Cherries into European football.

Meanwhile, Silva is once again being linked with a move to Stamford Bridge. He was in the running to replace Graham Potter, Mauricio Pochettino and Maresca, and the Fulham boss is understood to be one of the runners and riders now.

The Cottagers are currently 12th, but they are less than three points away from Chelsea in 8th place and will be in the mix for the European places. Then that leaves Terzic, who has not managed a team since he departed Borussia Dortmund in 2024.

He is the most accomplished of the trio, having won the 2022 DFB-Pokal (Germany's answer to the FA Cup) and guided Dortmund to the 2024 Champions League final. In the 2022-23 campaign, he was also within one victory of winning the Bundesliga title, but saw his side slip-up on the final day of the campaign.

He also has an excellent track record when it comes to developing young players, having helped develop Jude Bellingham and Erling Haaland while in charge at the Signal Iduna Park.

In addition, given the fact he's a free agent, Chelsea would not have to negotiate with a club to bring him to the Bridge. Either way, the Blues will not make a decision on their next manager until the end of the season.

In their statement confirming Rosenior's sacking, they also wrote: "Calum McFarlane will take charge of the team as Interim Head Coach until the end of the season with support from existing club backroom staff, as we strive to achieve European qualification and progress in the FA Cup.

"As the club works to bring stability to the head coach position, we will undertake a process of self-reflection to make the right long-term appointment."

Bournemouth join Fulham in Malik Tillman chase
Malik Tillman has been linked with a summer move away from Bayer Leverkusen, with Premier League clubs Fulham and Bournemouth interested in signing him.

According to a report by TEAMtalk, Malik Tillman is the subject of interest from Bournemouth. The Cherries are scouring the market for a versatile attacker and have set their sights on the Bayer Leverkusen star. However, they will face stiff competition from Fulham for his signature.

The 23-year-old United States international has impressed since joining the Bundesliga club, netting 8 goals in the 2025/26 season. He can operate in the attacking midfield or central midfield role, making him a flexible option for both Premier League clubs. The American's ability to play multiple positions could prove particularly valuable.

Fulham need more quality and depth in the middle of the park. They require someone who can create opportunities for attacking players while regularly contributing goals. The versatile midfielder could be an ideal signing for them. Tillman possesses the technical attributes for English football and the physicality to adapt to the Premier League's intensity.

The attacker is a young player with significant room for improvement under expert coaching. He possesses all the attributes to develop into a top-class Premier League midfielder. The Bundesliga club paid €35 million to acquire him, and they are expected to demand a substantial premium to part ways. Whether Fulham can afford the premium fee remains a key factor in any potential deal.

Bournemouth eye Malik Tillman move
On the other hand, the Cherries are also interested in securing the American's signature. Tillman could be an excellent addition to their attacking options. Bournemouth have recently sanctioned Antoine Semenyo's departure, and they are actively seeking more goals and creativity in the final third.

The asking price will be decisive for any potential move to happen. The opportunity to move to England could prove attractive for the 23-year-old Bayer Leverkusen star, who could immediately impact Bournemouth's attacking play.

Fulham and Bournemouth are solid mid-table teams in the Premier League with ambitious projects aimed at challenging for European qualification. Both clubs are targeting reinforcements to push into the top half next season and will need to bring in quality players to achieve their objectives.

Fulham lineup vs. Aston Villa: Predicted XI for Premier League clash
Fulham could be without up to three players for Saturday's Premier League clash with Aston Villa at Craven Cottage.

While Brazilian winger Kevin (foot) and right-back Kenny Tete (ankle) remain sidelined through injury, Alex Iwobi was taken off with a thigh problem in Fulham's 0-0 draw with Brentford last weekend and has emerged as a doubt.

Sander Berge, Harrison Reed, Sasa Lukic and Tom Cairney are all contenders to start in centre-midfield if Iwobi is not fit to feature; the former two began as substitutes last time out and will be pushing to earn a recall.

January signing Oscar Bobb and Samuel Chukwueze will both be battling for a start on the left side of attack ,as Harry Wilson continues on the right flank, despite scoring only two goals in his last nine appearances.

Head coach Marco Silva will weigh up whether to stick with striker Rodrigo Muniz - without a goal since August - or recall Raul Jimenez - one goal in six games - to his starting lineup.

Josh King will challenge Emile Smith Rowe for a start in an advanced central role, while a back four of Timothy Castagne, Joachim Andersen, Calvin Bassey and Ryan Sessegnon could remain intact in front of goalkeeper Bernd Leno, who produced a man-of-the-match worthy save to help Fulham claim a point at Brentford last weekend.

Fulham possible starting lineup:
Leno; Castagne, Andersen, Bassey, Sessegnon; Berge, Lukic; Wilson, Smith Rowe, Bobb; Jimenez

Fulham facing defining moment as Marco Silva exit fears grow
Fulham Facing Defining Moment Over Marco Silva Future

Fulham find themselves poised between continuity and change, a familiar tension in modern football but one that feels particularly acute at Craven Cottage. As first reported by iPaper, uncertainty surrounding Marco Silva has placed the club at a pivotal juncture, with decisions made in the coming weeks likely to shape their medium term trajectory.

Currently sitting 12th in the Premier League, Fulham remain within touching distance of European qualification. Yet that ambition is tempered by inconsistency and a squad that, while technically capable, appears stretched.

Contract Talks Driving Uncertainty
Silva's contract situation casts a long shadow. With his deal expiring in June, Fulham must decide whether to double down on a manager who has stabilised the club or prepare for a new era.

"If Fulham finish strongly between now and the end of the season, he may stay but the club is at a crossroads," a club insider told The i Paper.

That crossroads is not merely contractual. It speaks to identity. Silva has built a team capable of competing comfortably in the top half, but questions linger over whether he can elevate Fulham beyond that ceiling. Concerns around squad depth and academy integration persist.

"The club has ensured investment is there and Marco Silva is good at blending in players to the squad, but some fans suggest he is not looking enough at academy prospects."

European Ambition Influencing Decisions
Ambition remains central to Silva's thinking. His desire to manage in European competition is well documented, and Fulham's late season form could prove decisive.

"Silva is very guarded at the moment. He thought he might be in for the Tottenham job earlier in the season and there was interest from Brighton, too. In terms of his ambition, he wants to manage in Europe and that's what makes the last part of the season so important for Fulham as they try and reach a qualification stage."

This sense of timing adds urgency. Fulham are not merely negotiating a contract, they are attempting to align their ambitions with those of a manager who may feel his next step lies elsewhere.

Contingency Planning Already Underway
Should Silva depart, Fulham are not without options. The club's recruitment structure, led by Tony Khan, has already begun mapping out alternatives.

"However, if Marco does go, Tony Khan has a contingency plan. Any replacement manager would have to be Premier League ready, with a similar profile to Silva. Someone who also knows European leagues and is a tracksuit manager."

One name gaining traction is Thomas Frank, whose presence at a recent west London derby has not gone unnoticed.

"He knows the Premier League very well so would certainly be a consideration if things were to change."

Frank represents continuity of philosophy rather than upheaval, a manager comfortable developing players while maintaining competitive structure.

Our View – EPL Index Analysis
From a Fulham supporter's perspective, this situation feels finely balanced, but also slightly frustrating. There is a sense that Marco Silva has taken the club as far as he can without stronger backing, yet there is also hesitation about what comes next.

Fans will recognise the progress. Mid table stability in the Premier League is not to be dismissed, especially given the financial landscape. But the inconsistency mentioned in the report resonates deeply. Performances have often lacked conviction, particularly in games where Fulham should impose themselves.

The concern around squad depth is valid. Supporters watching week to week can see where the drop off occurs. Right back and forward areas feel thin, and losing Harry Wilson would only compound that.

There is also intrigue around Thomas Frank. His track record with player development would appeal, particularly if Fulham are serious about integrating younger talent. Yet replacing Silva carries risk. Continuity matters, especially for a club still consolidating its Premier League status.

Ultimately, many fans would lean towards keeping Silva, but with clearer ambition from the board. Investment, stronger squad planning, and perhaps a refreshed coaching structure could unlock another level.

This feels like a moment where Fulham must decide what they want to be. Stable, or genuinely competitive for Europe.
