Are the new security checks now here for good

I'm not against security checks but the latest measures do make me scratch my head a tad.
To get into the Riverside I was asked to show my pass twice  before getting into the queue . My wife had her small bag checked and was electronically searched - whilst I was padded down . We then obviously had to get our passes out again to go throughout the turnstile.

Where will this end ?

Perhaps we should have to show our passports which might help as the crowds of " tourists " would have to join a separate line.

Our American friends would have to fill in a visa waiver form and agree to inspection of their social media account.

When I got to my seat I was surprised not to find a seat belt ( to stop me standing ina seating only area) - and fully expected the stewards to point out the one exit and how we would all get out in case of an emergency. This is especially important as so many "supporters" don't have a clue where they are and block the exit whilst taking the obligatory selfie.

Everyone's trying to justify their jobs, which often comes with overthinking/overdoing things as a natural 'progression'..

It's a shame the riverside was soo poorly designed that people have to queue as much as they do now. The amount of turnstiles they created to service the riverside is slightly laughable.. someone really didn't think about how fans get into a stadium at all when.. designing a football stadium.

It's not a stupid comment because the queues at the Riverside Putney end were very frustrating

At least set up a wider entrance for the "security checks" and then funnel into the turnstile area

Or put in metal detectors at the turnstiles like entering an American public building

My comments were a little tongue in cheek and I did start my post by saying I do get security checks. However , I was questioning why I had to show my pass twice before even getting to the turnstiles. As someone who attends theatres regularly I have never seen a situation where everyone was searched- unless they went through a scanner. As Bazab and General have pointed out the set up is inadequate - if it's about cost etc then may I dare to question the cost efficiency of having a swimming pool and not improved security access ?

Given that so many of the people there are tourists this means there is a lot of understandable dithering and lack of understanding as to what they are doing and where they are - increasing the need for a more efficient system - with more lines of access.

My other comments were a bit of a "dig " at the design of the stand and its emphasis on the corporate side. In the event of an emergency I cannot see how , in the panic that would undoubtedly ensue , that a safe evacuation could take place with so many people attempting to get out of the one staircase . If it takes 15 minutes to get out after the final whistle ( with people holding back ) I do genuinely fear for what would happen in a real emergency

Got to Riverside Stand at about 2.15 and it took probably 30 seconds to a minute longer than our normal small bag search on match days. What the fuss about.

This has come out of the Manchester Arena bombing and large venues (like CC) are required to put in place enhanced security measures.

That said, you either enforce enhanced security measures or you dont. My impression from Saturday was that the measures were pretty lightweight.

I have a medical exemption certificate from the club which allows me to bring a slightly larger than allowed bag in the ground. This contains medical supplies which I might need during the game. While I was given a light pat down, the bag was not searched. It was looked into but not searched.

Now it may be that FFC security are well trained in assessing risk and took one look at me (white male, past state pension age with a medical certificate from the club) and took an informed guess that I was not a threat to safety inside the ground and that the bag they did not search had nothing dangerous in it.

On the other hand, as I said above, you either enforce enhanced security measures (search everyone properly, have sniffer dogs, have airport style scanners) or you don't.  I felt that Saturday showed a light security touch and didn't give much reassurance.

I wasflying back from Lisbon last Sunday and had a deodorant thrown away because it was 150m instead of the permitted 100. Now I'm not arguing that they were wrong to bin it, but what are you going to do with a 150m spray deodorant that you cant do with one that's 100m?
