Fulham star handed three-match Premier League ban
The Danish centre-back, who had previously been linked with a move to Newcastle during his time at Crystal Palace, was shown a straight red card during Fulham's 1-0 defeat to AFC Bournemouth at Craven Cottage earlier this month.

Andersen's challenge on Adrien Truffert went to VAR and saw him sent off and handed a three-match ban.

The 29-year-old missed Fulham's 1-1 draw with Wolverhampton Wanderers over the weekend and remains suspended for Sunday's match against the Magpies. His three-match ban doesn't end with the season, as he will also miss Fulham's opening game of the 2026/27 campaign.

Newcastle have already beaten Fulham twice this season, courtesy of last-minute goals from Bruno Guimaraes and Lewis Miley at St James' Park in the Premier League and Carabao Cup respectively. But United suffered a 3-1 defeat on their previous visit to Craven Cottage back in September 2024.

Benfica can't match the figures proposed by the London club, who are also prepared to give him 'more authority and autonomy in squad formation'. Essentially, if he stays, Silva would be backed more strongly on transfers.

At Benfica, he can compete for silverware and reunite with their general manager, Mário Branco. The pair worked at Estoril and have maintained a close relationship. A Bola insists this is one of the factors that makes the Eagles attractive.

The Portuguese club's contact with the Fulham coach has been positive and negotiations are ongoing for an agreement. They are optimistic of resolving this case 'as early as next week'.

Cairney & King: Finish on a high
Tom Cairney and Josh King sat down with Premier League Productions ahead of our season finale against Newcastle United.

While a stalemate at Molineux last weekend ultimately brought an end to any European aspirations, Sunday's showdown at Craven Cottage represents an opportunity to end the campaign with a victory. A top half finish is still possible for Marco Silva's side.

"It's been a tough end to the season for us, results wise," said Cairney. "Overall, when the last game of the season comes, I think you have to look at the season as a whole and reflect, and there's been a lot of positives.

"We had other dreams and aspirations, two months ago, a month ago, but we've fallen short towards the end, but on the whole, we've got to take the positives.

King was in agreement with his midfield colleague.

"T touched on it, but it's been a good season," said the 19-year-old. "If at the start of the season you showed us how the season would have gone, I think a lot of us would have been pleased.

"There was that last bit that we were trying to achieve, and we've fallen short a little bit at the end. But now we have that foundation, there's more we can do to kick on [next season]."

Newcastle haven't hit the heights that they have in recent seasons, but they're ending the campaign in rude health. Howe's side are unbeaten in their last three, with seven goals scored during that period, and with striker William Osula in fine form as the season reaches its conclusion.

"They have a terrific squad, a Champions League team this season," said Cairney. "They have some top, top individuals with a good manager.

"It'll be a hard game, they had a good result last time out, but if we beat them we can go above them, so it's a big game to end on.

"It's always nice when you play the last game of the season at home. If you win, you can celebrate and thank the fans for the season. It'll be a boiling hot day as well, which makes it better. Hopefully we can end with a win, go on holiday and start again next year."

King added: "I think it's important to finish on a positive note and give the fans a feeling going into next season that we can achieve something.

"We'll have lots of family and friends come and everyone comes on the pitch afterwards, so it's a good family environment and a nice end to the season. Three points will make the day even better."

Fulham will have thought they had fought off any chance of their manager leaving the club this summer when Chelsea, who had been linked with poaching the 48-year-old from their west London rivals, instead chose to appoint Xabi Alonso as boss.

However, a move back to his homeland is now being put forward, with Silva weighing up the opportunity to return to Portugal.

Benfica finished third in the Portuguese league this season, two points behind Sporting in second and eight behind Porto who won the title. That means they will be in the UEFA Europa League qualifiers ahead of the new season getting under way.

Benfica had initially made an exploratory approach to former Manchester United boss Amorim, but he turned down the approach as he waits for the right opportunity for his next role.
