Report: Fulham in advanced talks to sign £25m midfielder
Fulham Push Ahead for Shea Charles as £25m Southampton Talks Advance

Fulham are moving with real intent in the market and their latest piece of business looks increasingly significant. According to TeamTalk, the west London club are stepping up negotiations for Southampton midfielder Shea Charles, with a deal worth around £25m now firmly in view.

The 22-year-old has become a major target as Fulham reshape their squad under new head coach Alvaro Arbeloa. The report states that Charles has "emerged as a priority target" and that the player is "keen on a switch to Fulham" as the club look to add depth, mobility and quality in the middle of the pitch.

Shea Charles transfer gathers pace
There is a growing sense that Fulham have timed their move well. Southampton are said to be open to a sale if their valuation is met, while "negotiations between the two clubs have progressed positively in recent days". That is a notable development given the level of interest around the Northern Ireland international.

Leeds United had already made their play, with bids of "£20million and £23million" rejected, but Fulham now appear best placed to get the deal done. TeamTalk reports that Fulham "have now moved to the front of the queue", which is an important indication of where this chase currently stands.

From Fulham's perspective, there is logic to the pursuit. Charles delivered six goals and two assists in 38 Championship appearances last season, and his game appears to suit a side seeking control and energy. He can sit deep, cover ground and also influence attacks, qualities that were highlighted by his "versatility and composure in central midfield".

Southampton midfielder fits Arbeloa plan
Charles' profile also aligns with a modern recruitment strategy. He is young, has strong developmental upside and already carries meaningful senior experience. The report adds that he "views Arbeloa's project as an ideal platform for his continued development", while "personal terms are not expected to prove a major obstacle". In transfer language, that usually points to a deal with solid foundations.

There are still details to settle, and Manchester City hold a sell-on clause from his 2023 move, but the momentum appears to be with Fulham. If talks continue on their current path, this could become another notable summer arrival after Gonzalo Garcia, Cesar Palacios and Jonah Kusi-Asare.

At £25m, Fulham would be making a clear statement. They are not simply reacting to the market, they are identifying a player they believe can grow quickly in the Premier League and acting decisively.

Our View
As Fulham fans, this is exactly the sort of report that gets the excitement going. Shea Charles feels like a very Fulham signing in the best possible way, young, hungry, technically sharp and ready for the next step. When you read that he is "keen on a switch to Fulham" and that he "views Arbeloa's project as an ideal platform for his continued development", it is hard not to feel encouraged.

What stands out most is that Fulham seem to be winning a competitive race. Leeds have already had serious offers turned away, yet Fulham are now "to the front of the queue". That suggests the club are being decisive and persuasive, two traits supporters always want to see in a transfer window.

Charles also sounds like the right fit for how supporters want to see Fulham evolve. We need midfielders who can handle the ball, break lines, work hard and play with maturity. His return of six goals and two assists in a strong Championship campaign points to a player who can influence games in different ways.

£25m is serious money, but this feels like investment rather than risk. If Arbeloa wants athleticism, control and long-term value, Charles ticks plenty of boxes. For fans, the most exciting part is that this does not feel like the end of the business, it feels like another sign that Fulham are building something with purpose this summer.

The FFC Rumour Mill: Madrid duo arrive and Roma's Kevin bid rejected
Jack Stroudley rounds up another week of Fulham's transfer window.

We're less than a month away from the season kicking off and things are starting to heat up.

Fulham announced two signings this week and the rumour mill isn't stopping there. It could be a very exciting and pivotal few weeks for Fulham, let's look at the latest ongoings.

Incomings
Starting with the confirmed, Gonzalo Garcia and Cesar Palacios have both been announced by the club. I wrote articles on both the signing of Garcia and Palacios so will refrain from repeating myself, but I'm very excited for these two.

It looks like our raid of Real Madrid won't end there with Matteo Moretto reporting that Thiago Pitarch could become the third academy graduate to make the move to SW6. Marca are also reporting that personal terms have already been agreed and talks are currently ongoing between the two clubs regarding a deal.

Elsewhere, Fulham have revived their interest in Shea Charles according to Florian Plettenburg. Sky Sports Germany are reporting that Fulham are now in advanced negotiations to sign the Southampton midfielder with personal terms almost agreed. Fulham will reportedly pay €30m for the 22 year old.

Meanwhile, Fulham have cooled their pursuit of Trabzonspor defender Chibuike Nwaiwu with both parties unable to agree a deal according to reports in Turkey. I think this may be one that Fulham re-evaluate, we need a central defender and the previously reported Charlie Cresswell is staying in France and signing for Rennes. One of those potential options is Rennes defender Abdelhamid Ait Boudlal. David Ornstein reported on Wednesday night Fulham have had a £20m bid rejected for the Morrocan international.

Finally, a few Premier League names to mention. Matteo Moretto has reported that Fulham are a number of clubs interested in Arsenal winger Ethan Nwaneri and our very own Jack Kelly reports that we hold an interest in Manchester City defender Rico Lewis.

Outgoings
The biggest outgoing news this week comes from Italy with Globo reporting that Fulham have rejected a €50m bid for winger Kevin from Roma. We're not in a position to sell Kevin and the offer from Roma isn't far off what we paid last summer.

TalkSport are reporting that Fulham are open the idea of selling Serbian midfielder Sasa Lukic this summer. Lukic isn't seen as a fit in Arbeloa's system and the club would be more interested in a deal for him than Sander Berge. Lukic is in the final year of his deal so cashing in wouldn't be a terrible idea. If Fulham are to land Charles and Pitarch you'd imagine one would head out the door, from a financial point of view, Lukic makes the most sense.

Antonee Robinson's future has once again cropped up with Alan Nixon suggesting that Newcastle United are interested in the American if Lewis Hall was to head to Manchester United.

Finally, U21 manager Hayden Mullins has left Motspur Park to become the manager of League Two side Newport County. Mullins has done a fantastic job with the academy and deserves a chance at the helm of a first-team side. Go well, Hayden!

Fulham transfer target keen on Craven Cottage move as £20m first offer tabled
Alvaro Arbeloa pushing for more signings after deal for Real Madrid duo

Rennes centre-back Abdelhamid Ait Boudlal is interested in a move to Fulham, who saw a £20million bid for his services rejected.

Standard Sport understands, however, that Fulham are unlikely to return with a second offer for the Morocco international as they assess other options.

Ait Boudlal, 20, is a highly-regarded prospect, and Rennes are keen to keep the young defender having already lost Jeremy Jacquet to Liverpool this summer.

Fulham are in the market for a new centre-back following the departure of Issa Diop to newly-promoted Ipswich last month.

The club held an interest in Trabzonspor's Chibuike Nwaiwu as well as English defender Charlie Cresswell before the latter joined Rennes from Toulouse earlier this week.

Their attention has now turned to other targets, with new manager Alvaro Arbeloa keen to bolster his backline ahead of the Premier League season.

Fulham have already spent a combined £42.5m to sign Gonzalo Garcia and Cesar Palacios from Real Madrid and are also close to sealing a deal for Southampton midfielder Shea Charles.

Standard Sport understands that a deal for Charles is not yet finalised but is edging closer, with Fulham having fought off interest from Leeds for the 22-year-old.

Were Charles to join Fulham as expected, it would pave the way for Ipswich to pursue their interest in Sasa Lukic.

The Tractor Boys are keen on a move for the Serbian international, while Fulham would be open to cashing in on a player who is entering the final year of his contract.

Antonee Robinson: Why Man United could turn to Fulham left-back
Manchester United are yet to find success in their pursuit of a new left-back. The Red Devils are looking to strengthen the position this summer, despite Luke Shaw's impressive form in the 2025/26 campaign.

The Englishman started all 38 Premier League games, flourishing in a back three under former head coach Ruben Amorim as well as in his natural left-back position under Michael Carrick. Shaw played a key role in United's third-placed finish in the league table and even found the back of the net in the 3-2 win over Nottingham Forest in May,

However, the player recently turned 31 years old and has a history of injury troubles, so INEOS are looking for cover in the position, especially with Patrick Dorgu now operating in attack. Previous reports have named Newcastle United's Lewis Hall as an option for the job.

Hall, however, is not the only candidate on INEOS' wish list, with Fulham left-back Antonee Robinson also suggested as an option.

Premier League-proven candidate
Robinson rose through the ranks at Everton and spent time on loan at Bolton Wanderers and Wigan Athletic. He joined the latter permanently in the summer of 2019, and subsequently caught Fulham's attention.

The Cottagers secured his signature the following summer and he has since become a first-team regular. Blessed with pace to burn, the American is a modern full-back who loves to get forward but is also defensively sound.

Nicknamed "Jedi", Robinson's tendency for overlapping runs and high-energy style of play make him a fine option for United. The 28 year old is in his prime, has ample Premier League experience and can hit the ground running at Old Trafford.

While Hall remains heavily linked with the Red Devils, a recent update from The Peoples Person suggests that the Newcastle man is not on INEOS' wish list. With the left-back situation still unresolved, it now appears that the English giants have rekindled their interest in Robinson.

United could return for Robinson
According to talkSPORT, United could turn to Robinson if they miss out on Hall. The report states: "Manchester United could consider a move for Antonee Robinson if they are unsuccessful in their bid to sign Lewis Hall, talkSPORT understands."

Journalist Alex Crooks also confirms the Red Devils' interest in Hall, adding: "United's interest remains. We're told they're willing to pay up to £60million to prise Hall away from the North East."

"But having already made £70million for Gordon, £100million for Tonali and now £75million for Guimaraes, there's no real financial pressure on Newcastle. And you wonder if the hierarchy there might see this Lewis Hall situation as a chance to make a statement – 'The shop window is closed, we're not selling any more of our star players'."

Crooks goes on to name Robinson as a possible alternative to Hall, stating: "Keep an eye on Fulham's Antonee Robinson, the USA international. Their experienced Premier League campaigner would probably come a lot cheaper than Lewis Hall. He's someone I'm told is on Manchester United's radar as well."

However, the journalist warns that prising the American away from Craven Cottage will not be easy either, concluding: "Certainly I think it's going to be a difficult deal for Manchester United to do. What the Red Devils have by way of alternatives – Harry Amass has had a pretty decent pre-season, but the vibe coming out of Old Trafford is still that he will be allowed to leave on loan, leaving Luke Shaw really as the only first choice left back. They've got [Patrick] Dorgu as well, but he seems better suited higher up the pitch."

Final Thoughts
United will be competing in the Champions League next season and could certainly do with more cover for Shaw in the squad. However, the Red Devils must be wary of Robinson's injury record, with the player missing 25 games for club and country in the last two campaigns with various knocks, including recurring knee issues.

Fulham have had an offer for Rennes defender Abdelhamid Ait Boudlal rejected by the French club.

The 20-year-old Morocco international has attracted interest from a number of clubs.

Fulham offered around £20m for him but Rennes want more.

Ait Boudlal joined Rennes from Morocco's Académie Mohammed VI in July 2024, signing a four-year contract through to 2028.

The 6ft 3in centre-back, who captained Morocco at the Under-17 World Cup, made 18 senior appearances for his club last season after making his Ligue 1 debut in November.

Fulham do, however, seem on course to sign midfielder Shea Charles from Southampton.

'Tempted by Fulham' – Encouragement to sign defender after offer

Fulham launch attempt
The French outlet only state the Ligue 1 side have turned down the London club's bid, without a mention of the figure.

Abdelhamid Ait Boudlal joined the French club from Mohammed VI Football Academy in 2024. He made 20 league appearances last season and has already caught the attention of a few clubs.

Earlier this year, we relayed news of Liverpool, RB Leipzig and Ajax interest in the 20-year-old. At that time, Stade Rennais were planning to extend his contract beyond 2028.

That hasn't happened yet, and Fulham have now come forward to sign the centre-back.

Player keeping Fulham's hope alive
Although Stade Rennais rejected the English club's offer, the Morocco international is giving them hope.

Foot Mercato claims the defender is 'tempted by Fulham' and is open to making a switch to the Premier League. It's down to Álvaro Arbeloa's side to find an agreement with his club.

Stade Rennais must sell some players to improve their finances but have no plans to part ways with Abdelhamid Ait Boudlal.

Journalists Santi Aouna and Hanif Ben Berkane covered this report for Foot Mercato. The former took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to add the French club would only change their stance if there's an 'exceptional offer'.

He doesn't specify what's exceptional for Stade Rennais while Transfermarkt value Boudlal at €12m.

The Ligue 1 side's financial situation and the player's desire to move to England should give Fulham hope of securing his services. This would only be possible if the English club were to make a fresh attempt.

Harry Wilson has opened up on his decision to join Leeds United following the expiry of his Fulham contract

Leeds United became Harry Wilson's destination of choice after just one call with chairman Paraag Marathe.

As the 29-year-old's Fulham contract ticked towards expiry, a raft of clubs looked to engage the winger in talks over a move. Leeds, having failed to recruit Wilson during the previous window, were among them.

He penned a long-term deal at Elland Road in early July and has since featured for the Whites in three friendly fixtures.

Harry Wilson explains Leeds United choice
After helping Leeds defeat his former club Liverpool in Chicago, Wilson discussed his decision to join Daniel Farke's squad despite interest from elsewhere .

As reported by The Athletic, he said: "After the first call I had with the chairman and hearing the direction of the club, they were my number one choice. I spoke to a couple of other teams and it never changed my mind. I'm delighted to be here.

"The owners, the plans they have for the club... they know the size of the club, the fanbase and the history. We can see the work they're doing to the stadium already to increase the capacity and the investment they're putting into the squad. It is all going in one direction and that's what I want to be a part of."

Daniel Farke's role
Farke also played a pivotal role in the pitch to Wilson having held a long-standing interest in the Wales international.

Wilson explained: "The things he was saying on the phone showed that he had watched my game and knew what type of player I am.

"He saw me in different formations, whether it be a three at the back or a four at the back - we can be quite flexible with that. I fit into both formations. He's the one ultimately that picks the team, so it was always important to get his thoughts."

To Wilson, it was clear Leeds were not pursuing him merely because he was a free agent.

He said: "It showed that it wasn't just because I was a free transfer that they had decided, 'Let's go for him'. Last year they pushed really hard as well and ultimately ran out of time.

"My full focus was on Fulham, Wales and having a good season and trying to put myself in the best position. Then Leeds came back and didn't forget what they were saying last year. With the talks we had and their plans for the future, it was the best place for me."

Ipswich Town closing in on Fulham midfielder Sasa Lukic
Ipswich Town are closing in on the signing of experienced Fulham midfielder Sasa Lukic.

 As per talkSPORT commentator Ben Jacobs, the Blues are close to thrashing out a deal for the 29-year-old and he could undergo a medical tomorrow.

Lukic is a 62-cap Serbian international who has racked up 92 Premier League appearances for the Cottagers over the last three-and-half seasons.

 Since arriving for an £8.8m fee from Italian club Torino he's been a mainstay in a side that has secured four straight mid-table finishes in the top flight, but was about to enter the final year of his contract.

Lukic will become the eighth fresh face to be signed by new Blues boss Gary O'Neil this summer and the second central midfield addition this week following Tuesday's arrival of Florentino Luis (Burnley, £16m).

With both Azor Matuswia and Jack Taylor in a race to be fit for the Premier League opener against Sunderland on August 22, O'Neil said he wanted 'one or two' more midfielders on top of Florentino.

Fulham show concrete interest in a third Real Madrid youngster as Arbeloa seeks reunion
After bringing Gonzalo Garcia and Cesar Palacios to Fulham, Alvaro Arbeloa has now identified a third Real Madrid youngster, Thiago Pitarch, as another priority.

The midfielder enjoyed a breakthrough campaign last season and, now, according to Cadena SER, Fulham are showing concrete interest in the 18-year-old midfield prodigy.

As such, Real Madrid now face a decision: cash in on one of La Fabrica's brightest prospects or continue backing his development at the club.

A breakthrough season at the Bernabeu
Pitarch was one of the positives for Real Madrid last season. The academy graduate made his senior bow against Benfica in the UEFA Champions League under Arbeloa.

Interestingly, Benfica were managed that night by Jose Mourinho, who is now Pitarch's head coach at Real Madrid.

From there, the youngster's progress accelerated. He steadily earned the trust of the coaching staff, even edging ahead of Eduardo Camavinga and becoming a regular option in midfield rotation.

He also featured in the Champions League against Bayern Munich, further demonstrating that he was ready to compete at the highest level.

Pitarch also capped off his season by helping Spain win the UEFA European Under-19 Championship, finishing as one of the tournament's standout performers and the national team's leading assist provider.

Arbeloa wants a reunion
Arbeloa is now hoping to strengthen Fulham with another familiar face. Following the arrivals of Gonzalo for €40 million and Palacios for a further €10 million, the former Real Madrid defender has made Pitarch his next transfer target.

For now, Real Madrid are not ruling out negotiations.

With Rennes having lost key young defender Jeremy Jacquet to Liverpool after a deal was agreed in January for the centre-back to move in the summer, the French side have been attracting interest in their other centre-back, Abdelhamid Ait Boudlal, but have shown no inclination towards parting ways with him.

According to David Ornstein, Rennes recently agreed a move for Charlie Cresswell, a player Fulham were keen on this summer. The Cottagers then turned their attention towards Ait Boudlal but encountered resistance from the French side in their pursuit of the 20-year-old Ligue 1 player.
