Eintracht Frankfurt's Hugo Larsson set to complete Fulham transfer
Hugo Larsson's proposed move from Eintracht Frankfurt to Fulham appears close to completion.

Fulham FC have agreed a deal to sign Hugo Larsson from Eintracht Frankfurt, according to multiple reports.

Sky Germany reports that the two clubs have reached an agreement on a package worth up to €25 million.

According to Absolut Fussball, the 22-year-old Swedish midfielder flew to London early Tuesday morning ahead of his move to Craven Cottage.

Brentford and Crystal Palace have also been linked with Larsson, but Fulham now appear to have beaten off the competition for his signature.

Larsson joined Frankfurt from Malmö FF in 2023 for a reported €9 million.

Since then, the Sweden international has scored 10 goals and provided seven assists in 119 appearances for Die Adler.

Fulham pushing to sign Hugo Larsson from Eintracht Frankfurt
Fulham are pushing to sign Eintracht Frankfurt's Hugo Larsson on deadline day, reports Florian Plettenberg.

The Bundesliga side are hoping for a permanent transfer of €25m for the Swedish midfielder. Larsson is already in London for talks with Fulham.

The 22-year-old has impressed at times during Frankfurt and was once monitored by Arsenal. Having slipped down the pecking order in Frankfurt, Larsson could now become a regular for Fulham in the Premier League.

This is one to watch going into the final hours of deadline day.

Fulham considering deadline-day move for Chrislain Matsima
Fulham are pushing to sign FC Augsburg defensive mainstay Chrislain Matsima on transfer deadline day.

Fulham are exploring a late move for FC Augsburg defender Chrislain Matsima with only hours left in the summer window. According to Florian Plettenberg, talks have already started between Fulham and Augsburg over a potential Deadline Day deal for the 24-year-old centre-back. The Cottagers are assessing whether an agreement can be reached in the final hours of the summer window.

Matsima has emerged as an attractive option for Fulham after establishing himself in the Bundesliga, impressing enough in his first campaign to convince Augsburg to secure him permanently in 2025. However, his progress was disrupted last season (only 21 appearances) when a tendon tear kept him out of action for a significant period.

Despite the injury problems, Matsima remains an important member of the Augsburg squad. The Bundesliga club are not believed to be completely opposed to a sale, but they want to secure the best possible financial return if they are to let go of one of their mainstays.

Why are Fulham are interested in Matsima?
Fulham's interest is understandable given their current situation at centre-back. The departure of Issa Diop has left the West London club with only three senior options in the position, creating a need for greater depth and competition.

Matsima would offer the Cottagers the defensive depth and competition the squad lacks. His physical strength, recovery pace and confidence when carrying the ball out from defence have helped him make an impression in Germany. People at the London club believe those qualities could translate effectively to the demands of Premier League football.

The Frenchman's ability to defend large spaces could also prove particularly useful in a league where centre-backs are regularly exposed to quick transitions and direct attacking play. For Fulham, negotiations with Augsburg will need to progress quickly if Matsima is to arrive before the window closes.

Matsima, meanwhile, could view a move to Fulham as an opportunity to take the next step in his career. Having gained valuable Bundesliga experience in recent seasons, the 24-year-old could now be offered the chance to test himself in the Premier League. However, other centre-backs, including Javi Rodriguez, are also on Fulham's wishlist if a move for Matsima does not see the light of day.

Everton suffer late Kenny Tete transfer blow as Fulham plans to sign £21.4m replacement hit issues
Everton are sweating over their deadline-day move for Fulham right-back Kenny Tete due to problems with the London club's attempts to land his replacement, TEAMtalk understands.

Fulham have agreed terms with Everton on a deal just shy of £10million for Tete, who has been at Craven Cottage since joining from Lyon in 2020 and has racked up 145 appearances across his six seasons for the club.

A medical has been booked for the 30-year-old, but he is yet to complete it as Fulham have hit a blockage in their efforts to sign their preferred replacement, Andrei Ratiu, who stars for Rayo Vallecano.

The Romanian international has also agreed terms with his proposed new club, and Fulham have lodged a €25million (£21.4m, $29m) bid, matching the release clause in his contract.

However, Fulham want to structure the payment in instalments – and that has proved to be the major stumbling block.

Rayo Vallecano president Raul Martin Presa is refusing to entertain those terms and has made it clear that he does not want to sell Ratiu.

Ratiu is furious with the situation and is attempting to force through the move, but going into deadline day there is still no guarantee that an agreement can be reached, leaving both clubs sweating and with work to do before both moves can be pulled off...

Concerned Everton waiting on Kenny Tete transfer
That has left Everton concerned that their deal for Tete could be put in jeopardy, with the Toffees now looking at alternative options should Fulham be unable to complete their own replacement signing.

Fulham are also working on defensive reinforcements, with the club looking for a new centre-half.

As TEAMtalk revealed, they have made enquiries about former Fulham defender Tosin Adarabioyo and Tottenham's Kevin Danso.

However, Tosin is now on his way to Tottenham as part of a move that will see Danso join Sunderland.

Fulham are also working on another raid on Real Madrid as they continue to reshape their squad.

They had wanted Thiago Pitarch, but Real head coach Jose Mourinho has been keen to retain the youngster, as he has with Endrick, forcing Fulham to look elsewhere.

TEAMtalk understands their attention has now turned to Manuel Angel, another player Alvaro Arbeloa has previously worked with.

Fulham have already brought in Gonzalo Garcia and Cesar Palacios from Real this summer and are now in talks over Angel as they look to make it a third addition from the Spanish giants.

'Green Light' Given For Star To Have Fulham Medical
Eintracht Frankfurt midfielder Hugo Larsson has been given the 'green light' to travel for his medical at Fulham, following a deal being agreed between the two clubs.

Larsson began his senior career with Swedish giants Malmo, making 61 appearances before leaving the club in 2023.

Eintracht Frankfurt then brought the Sweden international to Germany for €9m, and he has since impressed with the Bundesliga outfit.

The 22-year-old's versatility to operate in both central and defensive midfield has made him an attractive prospect in the transfer market.

Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal were keen on the Swedish midfielder back in March, but nothing concrete materialised from it.

Larsson though is set to get his Premier League move as Fulham have reached a verbal agreement with Eintracht Frankfurt for the 22-year-old, with the final details between the clubs being clarified.

According to German journalist Florian Plettenberg, Larsson has been given the 'green light' to travel for his medical at Fulham.

It has been suggested that the deal is worth up to €25m and, with Larsson having already held talks with Fulham, the deal should proceed smoothly.

The Cottagers were keen on securing the Swede as they were looking to replace Sasa Lukic, who joined Ipswich Town earlier this window.

Fulham are active on a number of fronts as the window reaches it climax.

They have been especially keen to sign a new centre-back, but recently saw a second offer for Rennes man Abdelhamid Ait Boudlal turned down.

Attention has been switched to the Bundesliga, with Fulham holding talks with Augsburg in a bid to sign French defender Chrislain Matsima, but time is running out in the window.

It remains to be seen if Matsima will join Larsson in the door at Craven Cottage.

Fulham Put Proposal To Serie A Star, He 'Is Considering It'
AC Milan defender Fikayo Tomori has an offer to move to Fulham on deadline day and 'is considering it'.

Tomori has been available to move on from AC Milan for much of the summer, with the centre-back being frozen out of Ruben Amorim's plans at the San Siro, something that is not expected to change.

A host of Premier League sides have looked at bringing Tomori back into English football, but on deadline day, he is still in Milan.

Now though there is an opportunity for Tomori to depart and head to Craven Cottage before the window slams shut until January.

According to Italian journalist Luca Bianchin, Tomori 'has a proposal from Fulham' and he 'is considering it'.

Signing a new centre-back before the window shuts is a priority for Fulham, but they have seen several avenues closed down.

Recently, Rennes turned down their second bid for defender Abdelhamid Ait Boudlal, while they have since been holding talks with Augsburg for Chrislain Matsima.

It is unclear if those discussions are happening in tandem with moving for Tomori, however Fulham do not want to be left without a new centre-back.

Whether Tomori will agree to a move to Fulham in the coming hours remains to be seen.

It was suggested just days ago that Tomori is prepared to dig his heels in and remain at AC Milan if he is not convinced by any of the offers on his table.

Tomori had preferred a move to Aston Villa, but Unai Emery's men instead are moving for Taylor Harwood-Bellis, closing down that avenue.

The AC Milan defender has been on the books at the San Siro since 2021 and is into the final year of his deal in Italy.

'In Advanced Talks' – Fulham Look To Hijack Southampton's Swoop
Fulham have opened talks to beat Southampton to the signature of Elche defender David Affengruber.

The Cottagers are desperate for centre-back additions and have several irons in the fire on deadline day.

While a move for Rennes defensive prospect Abdelhamid Ait Boudlal came to nothing, there are efforts under way for Augsburg's Chrislain Matsima and AC Milan's Fikayo Tomori.

Tomori is currently giving consideration to an offer on the table from Fulham on deadline day.

The Cottagers are now also moving for Elche's Austria defender Affengruber.

It had been thought the Elche man would be moving to Southampton as a replacement for Taylor Harwood-Bellis.

Fulham though 'are in advanced talks' to sign Affengruber, according to Italian journalist Matteo Moretto.

Affengruber would be likely to prefer a move to the Premier League over dropping into the Championship with Saints, who could now lose out on signing him.

The former Sturm Graz defender helped Elche to win promotion from La Liga 2 and then stabilise themselves in La Liga.

He was included in the Austria squad for the World Cup and could now have his summer capped off by a move to the Premier League.

The potential terms of the deal to take Affengruber to Fulham are yet to emerge, as is whether Southampton are still fighting for his signature.

Fulham book first Deadline Day medical as triple transfer targeted
It is set to be a busy end to the summer window at Craven Cottage

Eintracht Frankfurt midfielder Hugo Larsson is set to undergo a medical at Fulham after the two clubs agreed a permanent transfer.

Standard Sport understands that Larsson is closing in on a move to west London and has been given permission to travel.

Larsson, who has made 83 appearances for Frankfurt since signing from Swedish club Malmo in 2023, is set to become Fulham's fourth signing of the summer following the arrivals of Gonzalo Garcia, Cesar Palacios and Shea Charles.

Head coach Alvaro Arbeloa has been keen to bolster his squad after taking over the reins from long-serving manager Marco Silva last month, and Fulham remain in talks for Real Madrid midfielder Manuel Angel and Rayo Vallecano right-back Andrei Ratiu.

Negotiations for Ratiu are understood to be complicated, with the 28-year-old keen to join Fulham but Vallecano reluctant to let him leave so close to the end of the transfer window.

There are also expected to be a few outgoings at Craven Cottage before Tuesday night's 11pm BST deadline, with Kenny Tete attracting interest from Everton and Under-21s captain Jayden Quashie potentially set to leave on loan.

Tete has been a long-standing target for Everton, who are in the market for a new right-back, while Quashie is attracting strong interest from an unnamed League Two club.

Fulham close in on blockbuster double deal including Real Madrid gem and ex-Newcastle United target
Fulham close in on blockbuster double deal including Real Madrid gem and ex-Newcastle United target

Fulham's summer transfer window looks set to end with a bang, as the Cottagers close in on two Transfer Deadline Day signings. The west London club have been busy during the off-season, bringing in a host of new talent as manager Alvaro Arbeloa looks to build his own side capable of pushing on in the Premier League this season.

He brought into both striker Gonzalo Garcia - who scored on his Premier League debut against Chelsea - and midfielder Cesar Palacios from his former club Real Madrid for a combined fee of around £43m, along with rising midfield star Shea Charles in a £30m deal from Southampton. On top of that, the club took up their option to buy Jonah Kusi-Asare from Bayern Munich, after he played on Craven Cottage on loan last season.

Fulham close to sealing two new signings
Fulham aren't done yet, however, with The Athletic reporting that Sweden international midfielder Hugo Larsson is heading to the club to undergo a medical, after the Cottagers agreed a fee of £22m with his club, Eintracht Frankfurt. The deal will be viewed as somewhat of a coup, with Newcastle United believed to have been chasing the player earlier this summer alongside both Brentford and Crystal Palace.

Meanwhile, there could be another fresh name coming through the door at Craven Cottage: Real Madrid's Manuel Angel. That's according to French outlet AS, via Goal, who say that Fulham are now advancing towards signing the 22-year-old, who is another player who Arbeloa knows well from his time managing in the Spanish capital.

The report says that Angel's move to Almeria has collapsed, which looks to have given Fulham an opportunity to swoop in and snatch the Spain U20 international. Arbeloa was also said to be keen on a reunion with another Real Madrid player in Thiago Pitarch, but new Los Blancos boss Jose Mourinho dug his heels in and wouldn't sanction the promising teenage midfielder's exit.

Fulham's tough start to the 2026/27 Premier League season sees them lying 16th in the table after two matches, following narrow defeats to west London rivals Chelsea and Sunderland. Arbeloa will be hopeful that his new recruits can gel and kick on this season, as the club look to avoid slipping into a relegation battle.

Player considering late offer from Fulham – Arbeloa's side moving on two fronts
Fikayo Tomori has been linked with several clubs in England and Fulham are now pushing for his late signature.

The defender has been excluded from the Rossoneri project by Ruben Amorim. The Portuguese manager believes he doesn't fit his system and doesn't offer the ability on the ball that he wants defenders to have.

This led to Sport Witness covering Aston Villa interest in the centre-back. The Birmingham club made initial contact for a possible deal but never went beyond that. Coventry City also tried to sign Tomori, however, the player wasn't keen on the move.

Now, Fulham are trying to engineer a late transfer.

Player could be interested
Previously, Tomori showed clear hesitation regarding Coventry City. That is what attracted other offers, handing a chance to Fulham.

Now, Gazzetta dello Sport's Luca Bianchin reports that the London club have made a late offer for the Englishman.

The player is considering the move, with Milan's stance about his exit not having changed.

The terms on offer from Fulham aren't known yet. Since the player hasn't offered an outright rejection, there is a chance a move can go through on deadline day.

This comes right after Alvaro Arbeloa's side made contact for Lecce's Tiago Gabriel. Sportmediaset report that Milan themselves are interested, with the player valued at €25m.

Tomori would be a convenient move
Since Fulham are moving late, Milan could make it easy for them to land Tomori. Previously, a €15m valuation has been spoken of but that can now change. The Rossoneri are keen to get rid of the 28-year-old, as they want to free up financial room.

This would allow them to sign Gabriel from Lecce. While he costs more than Tomori, Fulham's offer can hand them the money to complete the operation.

The Englishman may not be excellent on the ball but he would be a reliable squad player. He offers Premier League experience that can come in handy later in the campaign.

Real Madrid midfield starlet undergoing medical in London ahead of Fulham transfer
According to Guillermo Rai of The Athletic, Real Madrid youngster Manuel Angel is currently in London, undergoing a medical ahead of his permanent transfer to Fulham.

The 22-year-old starlet will reunite with manager Alvaro Arbeloa and two of his former teammates, Gonzalo Garcia and Cesar Palacios, who also left Real Madrid for Fulham this summer.

Close to the exit doors
Manuel Angel will become the latest academy talent to move on from Valdebebas after it has become clear that a place in the first-team squad is beyond reach currently.

The 22-year-old youngster was the captain of the Castilla team last season and impressed heavily, making 35 appearances in all competitions, in which he also scored a goal.

Manuel Angel was handed his first-team debut by Arbeloa in January earlier this year, in a Copa del Rey clash against Albacete. He went on to make six more appearances for Real Madrid in the rest of the season.

However, with no place in the senior squad and his cycle with Castilla coming to an end, the Spanish prospect has decided to move to England in search of a new challenge.

Arbeloa the driving force
As was the case with the deals for Gonzalo Garcia and Cesar Palacios earlier in the summer, Alvaro Arbeloa has been the driving force behind Fulham's move for Manuel Angel as well.

The 22-year-old midfielder was also being courted by several Spanish clubs, including Almeria and Cadiz, but a chance to reunite with his former coach and play in the Premier League has seemingly convinced him to join Fulham.

With Manuel Angel already in London undergoing his medical, an official announcement of the transfer might not be far away.

As they do with almost each young talent departing the club, Real Madrid are expected to retain some control over his future likely through a percentage of future sale or even a buyback clause for a reasonable fee.

Real Madrid have signed Sergio Martinez from Racing Santander earlier this week and he could serve as Manuel Angel's replacement in the Castilla squad.

Fulham near deal for Real Madrid's Manuel Ángel, Frankfurt's Hugo Larsson - sources
Fulham are closing in on the signings of Manuel Ángel from Real Madrid and Hugo Larsson from Eintracht Frankfurt but the move for Andrei Ratiu from Rayo Vallecano is in doubt, sources have told ESPN.

In what will be a hectic day at Craven Cottage, Fulham are looking at several signings, with the club also in the market for potentially two new centre backs.

In outgoings, Kenny Tete could yet leave for Everton if Fulham can secure a new right-back. But of those who are close to completion, sources have told ESPN the club are closing in on the double midfield signing of Ángel and Larsson.

Angel, 22, would be Fulham's third signing from Real Madrid this summer, following the arrival of Gonzalo García and César Palacios, alongside ex-Real Madrid boss Alvaro Arbeloa.

Larsson, 22, is also close to joining with Fulham agreeing a £22 million move with Eintracht Frankfurt. He has 12 caps for Sweden and will add another option in midfield.

Tete's future and potential move to Everton for £9m is uncertain, and hinges on Fulham signing a replacement.

Fulham want Ratiu from Rayo Vallecano, but after submitting a bid in the region of £23m for the Romanian international, Vallecano appear reluctant to let him leave.

Fulham are also looking for further reinforcements at centre back. The club have been linked with AC Milan's Fikayo Tomori.

GdS: Tomori 'considering' offer from Fulham with Milan exclusion confirmed
Fikayo Tomori could make a move on deadline day, with an offer from Fulham on the table being evaluated.

It has been a strange summer for Tomori, and not in a positive way. He probably hoped to stay and fight for a place under Ruben Amorim, however the new head coach made it clear that he does not consider him to be a part of his plans.

In fact, the Englishman ended up in the 'bomb squad' – a group of players training separately until their agents found them a new club. Despite this, there has also been talk that Tomori is willing to dig in and remain beyond the window, just to stay at Milan.

Now, Luca Bianchin has reported the following: "Fikayo Tomori has a proposal from Fulham on the table and is considering it. Not easy to close in just a few hours. Milan have no intention of including him in the squad list for the season."

For Tomori it would be a return to west London, having spent many years at Fulham's rivals Chelsea. Alvaro Arbeloa is the man in charge there, and in the coming hours we will learn if a return to the capital is enough to convince the defender

Fulham strike £21.5m agreement for Bundesliga midfield boss as medical is booked in
Fulham are on the verge of signing Eintracht Frankfurt midfielder Hugo Larsson after reaching a verbal agreement with the Bundesliga club, and with the move is seen as a real coup for the Cottagers and new manager Alvaro Arbeloa.

The Sweden international is already in London and due to undergo a medical on Tuesday as the Cottagers look to complete the transfer before Tuesday's 11pm deadline.

The fee is understood to be around £21.5 million (€25m, $29m). Larsson, 22, moved to Frankfurt from Malmö FF in 2023 and has made more than 80 Bundesliga appearances since.

Standing 6ft 2in, he is an athletic box-to-box midfielder who covers the ground, arrives in the penalty area at the right moments and offers energy without the ball. He is not a technical playmaker, but he brings stamina, physical presence and a useful goal threat from midfield, and an old-fashioned box-to-box midfielder is a better description.

The deal comes at a time of change at Craven Cottage. New head coach Álvaro Arbeloa, the former Real Madrid defender appointed in July after Marco Silva left for Benfica, has already added midfielder Shea Charles along with Gonzalo García and César Palacios from the Spanish giants.

Larsson gives Fulham another exciting option
Larsson would give Arbeloa another profile as he looks to inject more intensity into Fulham's engine room.

Frankfurt paid €9 million for the Swede three years ago and now appear willing to cash in, with an abundance of midfield options and a need to raise funds. Crystal Palace and several other Premier League clubs had been linked, but Fulham have moved quickly to get the agreement over the line.

Larsson has 12 caps for Sweden and is contracted in Germany until 2029. Provided he passes his medical, he is expected to put pen to paper later today and become one of the more notable late-window arrivals in west London.

For Arbeloa, still shaping his first squad in English football, the signing would add youth, running power and a player already accustomed to a high-tempo league.

While the signing of Larsson is seen as a real coup, the Cottagers have been left sweating on their attempts to sign Andrei Ratui, with a potential transfer collapse also threatening Everton's bid to sign Kenny Tete.

Fulham open talks over late move for Bayern defender
Fulham are understood to have made a late approach for Sacha Boey from Bayern Munich.

With the transfer window nearing its end, Sacha Boey remains a Bayern Munich player, but a late move could now be on the cards for the French right-back.

According to transfer reporter Matteo Moretto, Fulham are pushing to get a last-minute deal done for the 25-year-old.

The Premier League outfit had been looking to sign Andrei Rațiu from Rayo Vallecano, but with negotiations proving difficult, they have now seemingly turned their attention to the out-of-favour Bayern defender.

Bayern sporting director Christoph Freund confirmed on Tuesday that Boey was training on his own due to ongoing discussions over his future.

"Sacha is fit, but we've decided by mutual agreement that he'll train separately because there are some discussions taking place," Freund revealed.

Bayern have previously made it clear publicly that they would like to offload Boey before the end of the transfer window.

Manuel Angel set to join Fulham as deal agreed
Fulham are inching closer to signing a third player from Real Madrid this summer, as midfielder Manuel Angel is set to arrive.

Fulham are closing in on a move for Manuel Angel, a 22-year-old midfielder from Real Madrid, according to an update from Fabrizio Romano. The Cottagers, led by manager Alvaro Arbeloa, have been eager to sign a third player from his former club.

Per The Athletic, Real Madrid are set to hold 50% of Angel's rights once the move goes through. Meanwhile, Fabrizio Romano has suggested that Real Madrid will have a sell-on clause and matching rights.

Angel is a central midfielder who can also play a defensive role if required. It was Arbeloa who gave him his first-team debut at the Santiago Bernabeu last season, when the 22-year-old featured seven times for the senior squad across all competitions. Having been on the periphery of Madrid's first team, Angel could develop further at Craven Cottage under a manager familiar with his profile.

Arbeloa, who oversaw Angel's debut at Real Madrid, is keen to harness that familiarity at Fulham, where the club requires central midfield reinforcements after several summer departures.

A familiar strategy from Real Madrid
Arbeloa had been eager to sign Angel since earlier in the summer, as per reports, and now it appears the two clubs are closing in on an agreement for the talented 22-year-old. As is the strategy from Real Madrid with other players, they are set to hold a reported 50% of the player's rights should this move go through.

They have done something similar with other prospects from the Castilla leaving for new clubs in the past, and that might be the case with Angel. Fulham have needed reinforcements in central midfield following a few departures in the summer, and the young Spaniard could continue his development under Arbeloa.

Should he succeed at Craven Cottage, Real Madrid might contemplate bringing him back in the future or sell the remainder of his rights to Fulham. Overall, this could be a solid signing for the Cottagers in their effort to build a stellar project for the near future.

Building a young core
Should the deal for Angel go through, he would become the third Real Madrid player to join the Cottagers this summer. Earlier, Fulham agreed a double deal for Gonzalo Garcia and Cesar Palacios from the Spanish giants, and overall they have focused on building a young core in the side.

Recently, they also agreed a deal for Hugo Larsson from Eintracht Frankfurt, reportedly, and adding this young Swedish midfielder is seen as a major coup. Should the Angel deal conclude before the deadline, he will join Garcia, Palacios, and Larsson as Fulham's summer acquisitions from Europe.

Fulham could make late move for Bayern Munich's Sacha Boey
FC Bayern might have a taker for Sacha Boey.

According to a report from Marca journalist Matteo Moretto, Fulham appears to be shifting its focus in its search for a new right-back, as interest in Andrei Rațiu is reportedly cooling.

Rather than continuing down the path toward the Rayo Vallecano defender, Fulham are now in direct contact over Bayern Munich right-back Sacha Boey. The change in direction could signal that Boey has quickly emerged as a more concrete option for the Premier League club.

For Boey, a move away from Bayern Munich could provide an opportunity to take on a more prominent role. The French right-back has faced strong competition for minutes since arriving in Munich and has underperformed when he has had the opportunity to play.

Fulham, meanwhile, appears determined to strengthen the position and have already moved beyond simply monitoring Boey, with direct contacts now taking place.

It remains to be seen whether those discussions develop into a formal offer, but the situation could move quickly with deadline day approaching. Could Sacha Boey be heading back to the Premier League?

Fulham now in 'direct' deadline day talks with player who Sagna wanted at Arsenal
Fulham's pursuit of Andrei Ratiu has hit trouble just when a breakthrough appeared within reach, and they're now turning to someone else entirely.

The Rayo Vallecano defender had emerged as a leading target for Alvaro Arbeloa, with reports at the weekend suggesting that the player had already agreed to the proposed move.

Getting Rayo's approval has proved much harder.

AS reported on Monday that Fulham were prepared to pay £22 million, matching the value of Ratiu's release clause. However, the Spanish club had not responded to their approach.

The newspaper explained that triggering the clause would require the entire amount to be deposited with La Liga, rather than a negotiated payment arrangement.

That leaves a significant difference between offering the headline figure and completing the deal.

Ratiu's frustration has also become public. Fabrizio Romano reported that the Romania international wanted to join Fulham and was disappointed by Rayo's stance before their meeting with Barcelona.

For Fulham, the uncertainty affects more than one deal.

Kenny Tete is close to joining Everton, with Romano reporting that the Dutchman has agreed personal terms. His departure has been waiting on Fulham securing another right back.

That makes spending the final hours chasing an uncertain outcome particularly awkward.

Arbeloa has already discussed further recruitment with Shahid Khan and Tony Khan, explaining after the Chelsea defeat that he wanted a stronger, better balanced squad.

The right back role also carries an attacking responsibility under the Spaniard. Timothy Castagne has spoken about the greater freedom given to Fulham's full backs, underlining why the club want more than a defender who simply holds his position.

With Tete potentially leaving, Fulham need competition for Castagne as well as enough cover to cope with injuries.

Their search has now taken a fresh turn.

Fulham open direct talks with Bayern Munich defender Sacha Boey
Journalist Matteo Moretto now reports that Fulham are close to dropping their pursuit of Ratiu and have opened 'direct' contact with Sacha Boey.

The Bayern Munich defender has emerged as an alternative, although the update does not establish that a fee, transfer structure or personal terms have been agreed.

There is, however, a clear indication from Germany that a departure is possible.

Bayern sporting director Christoph Freund confirmed on Tuesday that Boey is being kept away from group training while discussions about his future continue.

Crucially, Freund said the player is fit.

Arbeloa target already in London to complete Fulham move – Dream PL move to end 'nightmare'
Real Madrid's Manuel Ángel has already made a trip to London to join Fulham on deadline day.

The Premier League side have looked towards Real Madrid this summer since appointing Álvaro Arbeloa as their manager in July.

Fulham have already signed Gonzalo García and César Palacios from Real Madrid. Their manager also has the 22-year-old and Thiago Pitarch on his agenda for this window.

Towards the end of June, before Arbeloa's arrival, Sport Witness covered a report from Spain explaining Fulham's interest in Ángel.

Fulham reach agreement
Marca reports Real Madrid have refused to let Thiago Pitarch leave. This has forced Álvaro Arbeloa's side to change their plans and shift their focus to Manuel Ángel.

The two midfielders came up through the ranks of Los Blancos' youth system. The Fulham boss promoted Ángel to the first team earlier this year, and he played six matches last season.

Fulham have now finalised with Real Madrid a €4m deal for 70% of his rights. With the two clubs securing an agreement, the La Liga side would have given him permission to travel to England.

The newspaper states the player is already in London for medical and to sign his contract with Fulham.

Arbeloa key for Fulham signing
José Mourinho replaced Álvaro Arbeloa at the Spanish club and has left Manuel Ángel out of his core plans this season.

The new manager didn't consider him during the pre-season while the player has no place at Real Madrid Castilla [reserve team].

Marca states: '...the summer was proving especially difficult for the brilliant midfielder.'

His former coach has been keeping a close watch on his situation in Madrid and has now taken action.

With his impending move to Fulham, the newspaper ends their report by stating: 'That nightmare has now come to an end, and his Premier League dream with Fulham is about to begin.'

Real Madrid set to pocket €4 million from the sale of academy talent to Premier League club
Alvaro Arbeloa's move to Fulham after his stint as the Real Madrid manager has resulted in the Premier League side heavily targeting Los Blancos' youth players.

After all, Arbeloa has worked with all of Castilla's young talents in the past and is the best candidate to bring them to the big stage.

So far this summer, the former Real Madrid coach has already swooped away Gonzalo Garcia and Cesar Palacios from Real Madrid.

Manuel Angel is England-bound
And as already confirmed, Fulham are close to a third acquisition from La Fabrica. Indeed, Real Madrid's young academy talent Manuel Angel is close to making his move to Fulham official.

According to journalist Jose Luis Sanchez, the English side are set to pay Los Blancos a sum of €4 million for the player's transfer and will only be purchasing 50% of his rights.

Real Madrid, unsurprisingly, will continue to retain the remaining 50% of his rights as has been their policy with many youth player sales in recent times.

Further, the report also confirms that Real Madrid will retain the right of first refusal over any of the player's future transfer from Fulham, effectively handing them complete control over his future.

Already in England
As reported earlier today, Angel is already in London and has already undergone his medical tests ahead of the move being finalised.

Given that Real Madrid have already sanctioned the player's travel to England, it is clear and beyond doubt that the move will go through this summer. In fact, an official announcement can be expected as early as the coming hours.

Angel was the captain of Real Madrid Castilla last season and has always been seen as one of the academy's highest-rated players. He had several offers from Spain this summer, but opted to move to England likely on Arbeloa's request.

Real Madrid, for their part, will hope that the player flourishes in the Premier League so that they can make a sizeable profit on any future transfer.

A return, after all, looks unlikely given the competition in midfield in Jose Mourinho's squad.
