He looked miles off it today. Muniz would have buried one of those chances

FishaPrice

Garcia looked pretty disinterested and/or lethargic today in my opinion. Hopefully he improves.

Luka

Gonzalo tried to take on McGuire and lost.
A physical miss match.
Welcome to the EPL young man.

Mullers OG

Too early to form a definitive view but impression after a few matches - willing runner still coming to terms with a new team but can't head the ball and doesn't finish.

Muniz looks a better bet. After a long injury last year he looks fitter and hungry.

Suspect we will continue with Garcia with the club and manager having invested heavily in him. Don't think that's sensible.

cwindsor

To be fair, there's been a few times (not today) when he has been open in a good scoring position and Josh has elected to take a questionable shot, rather than feed Garcia the ball.

C Block

Very, very shortly, Garcia (or somebody) has to replace the goals and the threat of Raul Jimenez, and at the same time somebody has to replace the goals of Harry Wilson, those two things are non negotiable if we want to stay up,
I said many times on here throughout the summer, including after we signed Garcia, that we needed to sign another striker, and I still standby it, huge gamble to just have Garcia and Muniz as our strike options,
We MUST add more goals to the squad in January, and the work towards that should have already started.

Sgt Fulham

I know I'll get stick for this but he really doesnt pass the eye test for me. I think he's got a footballers brain but is too awkward in his technique. He also doesnt appear very strong for his size and consistently loses any physical battle, particularly in the air.

That said, people who know a lot more about football than me seem to rate him, so let's see. I hope theyre right.

Whitestone

Garcia will turn out to be a great acquisition. It's early days. If he'd cleanly connected to one of the  two mis hits in the first half things could have been very different. Small margins. He's different to Muniz but still IMO the better of our two strikers. Let's be honest what did Muniz do today apart from get a an unnecessary booking.

Quote from: General on September 20, 2026, 08:50:26 AMFar too early to be thinking about when we can start criticising a player intentionally. Writing that sentence and realising that's essentially what the Op wants to do, when by their own admission they're 6 games early in doing that too.

We had Chelsea, Liverpool, and European qualified Sunderland in those four games.

For what its worth, i think Garcia has done really well so far and has got into so may good positions and has lost out simply by the rest of the team not spotting the space hes in with, often, a clearer shot at goal.

Have spotted moments in each game we've played so far when he's been in a great position and could've potentially scored from but the player who could've passed to him ended up rushing themselves and taking on the shot, which often was weak or off target.

I dont think it's a question of quality, more about the team getting more aware and familiar of each other so they can see how good he is.

Hopefully he can kick on, but hes already showed his quality with two quick/smart finishes and has looked bright.

Who do you think you are ? Please don't try and put words into my mouth!
Read again what I said, I've not criticised him in any way shape or form , I like the lad and I wish him well, my observation was that he needs to be provided with more chances and opportunities to show us all what he can do
Not sure why my original post warranted such a snidey comment to be honest.

No need to get personal and derogatory. It's a question of interpretation. Most of what you said, whilst it may have been intended differently, came across to me as in you getting on his back and asking for more..

your post quoted below'

'As important as the points are today, I would absolutely love to see Gonzalo get one or two,
Doesn't matter how hard you think he is working or how well he is playing, there comes a time in the season when the media and the supporters study the cold hard facts of goals and assists, and that scrutiny will start after 10 games (at the latest)
My observation so far is this, are we creating enough chances for him in goalscoring positions  ?
There hasn't been a discussion yet has there whereby we're all discussing his misses, and "how did he not score that "

Both of those statements, when read - suggest what I wrote in my initial interpretation. If you think I've misread it, then feel free to clarify. Making any sort of attempted personal attack on such a simple thing isn't necessary.

Coastwalker

If he is a striker, then he didn't pose any threat to their defence today.
Time will tell,early days yet.

We were on the back foot and Kevin did little to support Muniz.
Never mind I have now seen Sander Berge have a good shot!

andyk

I think he might benefit from a few bench appearances. Coming on at 70 mins, when defenders are tiring. He definitely works hard and has talent, but a little game time management would help him adapt.

I stand by what I said, you claimed that I criticised him, where ?
In your second paragraph, the point I was making was that (before today) he wasn't missing chances because chances weren't being created for him.

That means starting Muniz which would be madness.

Needs to stay in the middle keeps going out wide

Andrew

I think Garcia is a good player and would have been served better with a manager that used him better.

Not his best game today and he shoots to often from long range with little chance of success. But I think he has the chance to be top class.

Well, he's had two starts and scored two goals. He's also very strong defending corners, set pieces. He's our only other option and, if you take out Raul's penalties, Muniz has a better PL scoring record.

Two starts against lower league opposition. As for scoring in the Premier League, well that's a distant memory. I hope and believe that Arbeloa will persist with Garcia because I think we have a very capable player.

To be truly honest, that is a bit unfair to Muniz.  He came on after Iwobi, Bobb, King, and Berge had come off and we shifting to a back five.

Personally, I think we would have the biggest threat by playing the two at the same time.

Bassey the warrior

Not a great performance but still nearly got an assist for Iwobi, and nearly got on the end of an Iwobi though ball which was slightly overhit. Needs a goal
