Ruiz appointed head coach of Costa Rica national side, tasked with getting them to the 2030 World Cup finals.
Never really saw him as managerial material, but who knows?

@jolslover

Great player imo, some of the goals he scored for us were outrageous, inconsistent but very gifted.

Stayed with us in the Championship and after a great world cup signed a 1 year extension just so we could get a transfer fee for him and didn't lose him on a free.

I know his time at Fulham was ultimately underwhelming, but I loved watching Ruiz play.

The national job is a little bit a of a surprise but when you are such a national icon (with 147 caps) in a smaller nation, the opportunity is always going to be there at some point. Good luck to him, it's not an easy task!

Bassey the warrior

Hugely talented player but not ideally suited to the pace of the Premier League. Scored some incredible goals for us, I seem to recall his first was a delightful chip.

Pre season in 2014 I saw a friendly in Austria when Magath was Manager, Ruiz got off the coach with with his suitcase and he was banished to sit behind the changing rooms with his case. Magath was really cruel towards him.

Ruiz loved watching him and really helped club so we got a fee for him.

Me neither.  Every gaffer needs, from time to time, to direct their players to be physical, snap into tackles and let the opposition know that you are there.

All of his charges will have seen him play.  You know where I'm going with this thought.  It took the Fulham coaching staff two seasons to cajole him into basically just getting in the way.

What he could do with a football was sublime.  The scoop against Bolton is one of the best goals I've witnessed. That moment of "what on earth has he done" as the body shape changed and the ball went skywards and the subsequent realisation that he's a genius, that's just wonderful.

Good luck to him.

hahaha like the summary, I think it was Norwich home, we won 5-0. We had Ruiz, Dembele, Diarra as a midfield 3. Not exaggerating when I say that midfield three could have started for Barca and no one would have bat an eyelid.

I think you are over exaggerating how good Bryan was. If he was the quality his greatest admirers reckon, he would have been snapped up when we were relegated in 2014. As it was, I believe Werder Bremen said they would take over his contract if we allowed him to leave on a free. A loan to Levante was agreed in January 2015 but a paperwork filing error meant he had to spend rest of season at Fulham.

I thought he was fantastic when he had time and space on the ball. Unfortunately for him, that was rare over here.

I bet he would have learnt a lot from Magath and his preaching...

I think it was his goal against Blackpool, drop the shoulder, let the ball travel across the body and a glorious curler into to the right hand corner of the goal, was my show and tell at a level two coaches gathering. As I recall the corner flag, row Z and a miskick led up to me nearly getting right.
His volley away at Reading along with a Berbatov classic remains one of my top ten away days.
