'Must be an Ex-Man Utd thing, Hughes does the same on his clubs too.'

Actually think there might be something to that - for their playing career they got away with murder, and they're not going to rough it and tough it out if things start going against them. That said, Hughes is five times the manager Bruce will ever be.

Not sure it is a Man United thing, Fergie never took much grief from his players.

Maybe it is modern player/manager syndrome. If you have played in the prem, loyalty is nothing, why should it change when you become a manager?

Steve Bruce always seemed to me to be a more or less borderline competent manager who adds no value.

No idea how he keeps getting jobs.

I am increasingly coming round to this view.

Originally, I thought he was rubbish, but now I think he is one of those managers who can do a poor/passable job with good resources, but wont ever achieve anything significant.

Take the resources away, and he has nothing though.

There's some truth to that - has to be said, a lot of ex-players of recent times have gone into management and not many of them have done a lot. Of the ex-players from top clubs, you'd have to say Hughes is probably the most successful of the lot, yet the jury's still out on him long term. Pardew very nearly didn't make it. Then you've got Ince, Coleman, Adams, Bryan Robson, Bruce - not exactly made the grade have they? I'm sure there are others.

I've always thought that - and have said so plenty of times.

Roy Keane another ex Man Utd player expected to rule the roost and take over from Fergie. Clearly not up to it though. Does anything think Hughes may have an eye on the Man Utd role when Fergie one day decides to hang up the clipboard? Perhaps he gets some european Champions League experience with a smaller title winning club on the continent and then come back to Old Trafford a potential boss?

Another recent player turn manager was Gareth Southgate, who I always fancied to make a decent manager however I don't think he's not agressive enough to instil fear into his players if they don't perform(especially in the Premier League where it is a very physical, adrenaline type league) , he hasnt got that ruthlessness I guess, which a lot of top manager do (many don't however, eg Hiddink, Ancelloti etc etc)
Not everything that counts can be counted, and not everything that can be counted counts

Yeah sure Hughes sees himself taking over at OT at some stage in the future but, particularly after he bailed on us, he's not going to have enough time to do a decent enough job anywhere to take over from Slur Alex. Albeit that would have been a very hard act to follow.

That is the excuse, Burt. Replace Bent, Gyan, Welbeck and all the others in this short amout of time is ridiculous.

Mark Hughes' is favourite and heavily backed in the media. Haha. Good luck, Mr Shot.

I like Steve Bruce. Good manager.
