it seems to be that everyone from the UK rates stockdale and wants him to stay, while everyone from overseas thinks he isn't good enough to be our long term keeper? i wonder why that is?  :wum:

In all seriousness, I don't think you become a better team by going backwards in key positions, and Stockdale is going backwards. He's good, but just not good enough, for me. Time to buy up.
I wonder why he's "backwards"? He's been nothing but exceptional for us. His distribution is better. He's a better footballer. Look at modern goalkeepers, look at Manuel Neuer or Hugo Lloris - distribution is one of the most important factors nowadays. Schwarzer is possibly the worst footballer in the Premier League. Stockdale is fantastic on the line (just as Schwarzer) and he's been steady when it comes to crosses. I don't understand all this "to hell with Stockdale" at the moment. He deserves his chance - Schwarzer is not as good as he was last year, and last year he was not as good as he was the year before.

And no, I'm not from England.

Exceptional isn't the word. Distribution better yes, handling a bit better. Positioning and command of area and communication are inferior though. Schwarzer is the better player. But I have a feeling this will be Mark's last season with us. Schwarzer is the worst footballer in the league? I hope this is tongue in cheek.

I'm quite certain Mr Fulham means the worst footballer in terms of footballing ability as an outfield player.

One of the joys of this forum is the fact you can have a sensible discussion of differing opinions and viewpoints without people insulting each other. Thank you all whether you contributed to the discussion or just read the thread.  :54:
:plus one:
Just to completely agree with your point Silver Fox, there's times when I want to disagree/agree with people, especially on this topic for instance, but someone has already made comment about this or that and therefore feel my point has been put across already, so just a quick well done on why this forum is such a great place to visit from the mundanity (if there is such a word) of my workplace and read well articulated, opposing arguements with a view of respect that we may not always agree but we can all agree that we love the mighty Whites  :scarf:

For my own opinion, I want to see how Stockdale performs at Hull and will be trying to watch any streams when I can, in particular with how Stockdale commands his area, directs his defenders, gets his positioning/angles right, his decision making and distribution. Reflexes are mentioned as keepers but there is so much more to keeping than just reflexes (or distribution for that matter). DS is strong in some areas that MS is weak and vice versa, Jol feels MS gives the best overall package at this time and therefore deserves the gloves, but a loan for DS to improve his weaknesses in a match environment is hugely benficial and hopefully he can come back a more rounded (but hopefully not physically like after pre-season) 'keeper.

Also, the clubs statement which views him as a future FFC #1 'COULD' all be smoke and mirrors and simply there just to drive up Hull's price if they want to buy him in January.... We could then used said money for 'up-coming english keeper' to buy top european keeper.... Just a thought  :010:

I don't think anyone says "to hell with Stockdale". He is a good keeper. I just can't understand that, if he is better than Schwarzer, why hasn't he played. And, if he is so good, why has no other Prem club come to buy him but instead pay silly money for foreign keepers?

Pretty much, sipwell, you sum it up perfectly for me. He obviously doesn't have what everyone seems to think he has. I would hazard a guess that those who are in the football coaching circles would know a lot more about him than we do, and if he's still sitting on the bench for us with no interest bar the championship, he's obviously not got what it takes.

I'd LOVE to be proven wrong though. Love to.

A Premier league club did come into buy him.

When he has covered for Mark in previous seasons I thought he did quite well. Maybe he needed to command his area a bit better at times, but that is probably down to lack of experiece and game time.

Me-ate-Live, innit??

The only time he played for the 1st team he did really well, I thought he was sound

..........................but then I preferred Maik Taylor to Van Der Sar  and I never forgave the latter for that madness (sort of own goal against ) v  Arsenal, last game of the season 2004

totally agree with this, you cannot judge a goalie on how many goals put past him, if he has a poor defence and has no chance with shots then he is not at fault, when Stockdale has stepped in he has done well for the club, also though my departed friend Finn and others kept saying it he is fat, I have seen him close up in a pub at a family do and he looked very fit in a physical way not a man love way :005:

I've got it.  Couldn't Schwarzer play hidden behind Stockdale ?   Nobody would know we were playing with 2 keepers. We'd just swap who stood in front based on their strong points. We'd also have both posts covered for set pieces which should stop us shipping so many goals. Seems reasonable to me.
Finn and Corked Hat, you are forever part of the family.

I think Mark is taller so it would look like the goalie had too heads. Mind i don't know if a two headed goalie is against the rules :-)
