Please, just lighten the load a little. Its got to be obvious that the poster didn't men to offend those that fight depression, or family members that have suffered as a result, in any way, so why the pack of hyenas routine?

If you don't like a thread you have three choices:
Firstly, ignore it. If you cannot ignore it, then complain to a Mod, if that doesn't float your boat then thirdly, and I wish more people would avoid this, reply to the thread and start an argument.

Personally, I try to the the first option, as complaining to myself gets me nowhere it seems, though I am also guilty of the third option at times, and so I can empathyse with those that find this distasteful and have ranted as such.

This isn't a bitch at any leftist, rightist, or centralist, or those on high horses or rocking horses, or who live in glass houses, green houses or the parliamentary ones either. (did I miss anyone?)

Who's been censored? Seems like most people have had their say, one way or the other on this topic.

I've quoted was what was said first up. It's not a joke. A joke would be 'Did you hear Petrov has cancer?' 'Blimey, some people will do anything to leave Villa.' It's a crap joke and and in non-existent taste but it is a joke and an attempt at humour.

What this poster did was simply to mock someone who tried to kill himself. He said, 'Lets be honest when you end up at that anal discharge of a club not only is your career at rock bottom but your life as well. He even played for Luton during his career yet it was having to wear that horrid blue and white that tipped him over the edge almost. Can you imagine how his family and friends probably disowned him for a time, the embarrassment was too much to take admitting that someone who they always followed, supported , and believed in had fallen so far down into the footballing gutter that it wasn't worth all the hassle.'

You have no idea what nearly tipped him over the edge. QPR may well have had nothing to do with it. You were having a chuckle at someone attempting suicide and I don't care if it was an attempt at laughing at the Bitters, some areas should be left alone.

For Fulham 76 who said 'I'm sure no one is really stupid enough to genuinely believe you were having a dig at depression', how else are we meant to take it?


As for those who said complaining was 'too PC'? Please tell me. Is it the Holocaust? Hillsborough? Dunblane? Gary Speed? Kids with cancer? Is fans making monkey noises at matches too PC? Tell me, where's the line? I'll tell you where it is - it's different for everyone and people should try and understand that.

I'm happy to have the pissed ripped out of me for being bald and fat - knock yourself out. But next time I hear about someone taking the piss out of suicide I will be tempted to knock them out.

As for over-sensitive, I got laid into by people on this board for saying the Riverside Stand is a disgrace because it is so quiet. That's not over sensitive?

I suggest not watching most comedians, southpark, family guy, american dad and Ricky Gervais and you won't be offended and like the admin said, if you don't like the joke, move on. If the admins think its distasteful to the masses or down right inappropriate, i'm sure they will shut it down. My only advice would be not to take parts of this board so seriously.

Was reading an article earlier about footballers who've suffered from depression. I must admit there was a line that brought a chuckle. Ex player Clarke Carlisle , now PFA Chairman, admitted to trying to take his own life in 2001....when playing for [QPR]

One player had depression while he was at QPR. So what about all the other players who had depression while they were at other clubs? The link between depression and QPR doesn't work.

And then we get an embarrassing rant about QPR, the sort of thing we roll our eyes at when something about us being posh appears on a QPR or Brentford message board.

I wrote a huge counter response to this but thought whats the point. So much of what you said doesn't make any sense so i'll leave you with this. Your statement is lame and embarressing. I think you should watch more early Gervais like on XFM to fully understand him. Not just quote a part of him to give an extremely flawed argument some credance.

For the record and maybe to put this to bed once and for all my thread was never aimed AT ALL at depression or any type of mental illness. It was aimed completely at those scummy little inbreds from up the road. Pure and simple. No doubt there'll be people saying i shouldn't involve depression etc in the joke. I'm sure not everyone will find my post here acceptable still but frankly i'm getting a bit bored of these touchy so and so's who seem to have taken huge offence in any way. ITS NOT AIMED AT YOU. I live every day with someone who suffers from depression and she would be incensed at this attempt at depression humor from someone who doesn't seem to understand the subject. I believe Buffalo was taking a poke at QPR but based on my experiences I more than cringed at the use of a real life depression confession in a joke. This is just not joke material for many depression sufferers.

That's largely a fair enough point. The only thing I'd like to make clear is, the 'too PC' thing wasn't directly aimed at people who have depression (I assume) and saying someone is overly sensitive is justified in this case because let's face it, reading every post, this has grossly been blown out of proportion. (to some degree, I'm not slagging anyone off here, just my interpretation which clearly contradicts others views).

The last thing I'd say is, people have used having the illness or being near someone who has affected them as a reason to why this is inappropriate. Now I'm not going to dwell into mine or their personal lives BUT I know this condition very well and I've always used humour as a defence mechanism. Taking into consideration I'd like to think someone wasn't intentionally trying to hurt myself (or a loved on), hence why, I personally haven't taken offence. (I can understand if people have but as said above, I think it's been grossly misquoted at times and taken to the extreme in others and should therefore be locked to avoid further discouraging comments which obviously hurt others feelings.)
