Old Sod's Army-David Stockdale

In the last game of last season right near the end our former keeper fumbled a soft shot into the net. This enabled Newcastle to snatch the championship away from Brighton. This season, right near the end, he makes a stunning save from Mitro's header that would have seen us draw level. At the time we were at last really at it, I wonder what would have happened then.... Emmm.

I thought David Stockdale was great for us and I was really disappointed when Magath and the need to cut the wage bill following relegation meant he departed for Brighton.

Brighton and now Birmingham.  Enough is enough now David.  Can you please stop making worldy saves when you are playing against us.  It is beginning to feel like the striker that left and will always score against us

Totally agree.

Did himself no favours yesterday either with his goal celebrating and time wasting, got a lot of stick in the end, not sure if he will ever get a good reception again!

What do expect him to do?
Birmingham pay his wages, and they were fighting to stay up.

filham

Yes, Stockdale had a good game but Betts put in yet another good performance for us.

So what? Betts wastes time regularly (and is not shy about celebrating goals). What do you expect him to do, roll over and have his tummy tickled?  Get real.

I think Stockdale just showed what a good keeper he is and it was a shame we let him go

Bets should have saved the 3rd imo

Get real! What do you mean by that, I was just pointing out the atmosphe in the area around me on Saturday, wasn't pleasant at all.
I still have Stocko 13 glove that I caught after the Stoke away game when we were relegated, big fan of his.

I think we need to stop this myth that Stockdale was a good keeper for us. He is a substandard player, part of our worst side for around 20 years.

If you think he is that great why was he dropped like a stone when his club was newly promoted? The answer is - his mistakes cost points, and it cost them the league.

His behavior yesterday was what you would expect from a keeper in a result they need to keep, its the gamesmanship you see week in week out. We did similar to Brentford.

I don't mind that, what I do mind is the fact some fans have some weird affection with this player.

Carborundum

Clearly a discarded Fulham keeper cost us promotion.....

...but enough about Neil Etheridge.

He was much better than his replacement: the guy in the pajamas who did the splits while flapping his arms around.

At the beginning of the second half I was a big fan of him. I felt he didn't take the piss wasting time at goal kicks. Compared to Etheridge's antics against Hull he was saint like. I was disappointed to see him gloating to some fans but no doubt they were giving him abuse. Bett's has done his fair share of OTT celebrating and time wasting.

Milo

No but genuinely Stockdale and Etheridge have both gone on to contribute to us not gaining promotion on 2 occasions.

What scope is there to not sell these players to clubs in the same league as us ie rivals? It's a pretty common tactic in the Prem.

I suppose these players have limited options. Whereas Prem players can go abroad and it's financially rewarding, the majority of Championship third choice keepers probably wouldn't get the offers or indeed think it viable to leave. Ultimately staying in our league.

Celebrating the goal and game management to earn promotion is one thing. Active gloating to fans is another!  092.gif

As far as I am concerned it is you that needs to "get real".  In what way did Stockers do himself no favours? He was just being professional. If some in the crowd didn't like it that's of no consequence to Stockdale.
