Diop leaves Official

A shame, think we did a bad deal.. lots of outgoings so far this summer and no incomings.. a worrying sign so far




The Club can confirm that Issa Diop has joined Ipswich Town for an undisclosed fee.

The centre-back departs after four years in SW6, a spell which saw him embody professionalism, commitment and dependability.

Diop said: "I'd like to thank everyone at Fulham. I'm grateful to have worked alongside such a great group of teammates, coaches and staff every day.

"I'd also like to thank the supporters for all of their backing during my time here – it always meant a lot to me. I'm proud of what we achieved and the memories we created, and hope that Fulham continue to be successful.

"Merci, Fulham!"

Tony Khan said: "In his four years at Fulham, Issa Diop has given his all for the Club every time that he was called upon.

"We have enjoyed many memorable moments from Issa over the years, and he was the first ever Fulham player to score in a League Cup Semi-Final at Craven Cottage. 

"His strong performances at the World Cup this summer showed the player that we all know Issa to be. I am very grateful to Issa for everything that he's done for the Club, and we all wish him well in his new chapter at Ipswich Town. 

"Come on Fulham!"

It's been almost four years since Diop walked through the doors at Motspur Park, a place where he's been a very popular presence ever since.

He leaves Fulham just shy of 100 appearances in black and white, and he could never be accused of not giving his all every time he was called upon.

Diop netted three times for the Club, one of which saw him become only the second player to ever score for us in a League Cup Semi-Final, and another that aptly came on his final appearance, the season finale victory over Newcastle United in May.

We wish Issa the best of luck at Portman Road, and look forward to seeing him in the Premier League again next season, off the back of his excellent World Cup campaign with Morocco.

Issa Diop was the greatest Fulham centre-half since Billy Morrison and to sell him for such a fee, even if we don't know what that fee was, is indicative of total incompetence.
Whoever is bought to replace him will not be anything like as good, much too expensive (even if we don't know what the fee might be) and far too late.

A shame he's leaving and I feel we did not get the best out of him.  A good acquisition for Ipswich IMO. We're due to play at Portman Road on 10 October and hope he doesn't stop us scoring a few then but very good luck to him except on that day.

What I don't quite understand is why we are selling to a premier league rival this early in the window. Numerous reasons : we don't have a replacement , it's improving a rival and lastly supposing one of our centre half's gets injured in preseason. The sale itself makes sense but timing is very odd
