That was dire!

For all those who wanted Marco out, this is why they were so misguided.

Silva understood that we are a smallish club competing in a harsh competitive league. To stay in it he realised we needed to be defensively sound and he developed a team of experienced professionals who worked incredibly hard. It wasn't pretty but it was effective.

Arbeloa has gone down a completely different path. I very much hope it works. If it does we will all be highly entertained. If it doesn't then one fears he will be gone by Christmas.

With all due respect that's a silly comment.
Marco got us promoted and comfortably kept us in the Prem. Every pundit reckons that we may be in trouble without him.
I maintain that your dislike of MS is misguided.

Marco was easily, hands down one of best managers the club have ever had.

Only managed to see the second half and from what I saw we were no different from the last 10 games of last season. Slow horse shoe shape football with no penetration. Anderson hanging back because of his lack of pace played the winger onside. Couldn't understand the subs, Sess and Kevin should of come on for Robinson and Palacios on the left and I would have bought on Charles for Iwobi. Then if we were still chasing a goal late bring on Muniz to play with Garcia.

 :slap:

Our best manager ever was dire! Well at least they can't accuse the fanbase of having low standards.

The reason why purse strings are so tight this summer is because Marco Silva spent over £100 million on Kevin,Andersen, Smith-Rowe and Bobb,
Have we had our moneys worth out of those four ?

Yesterday was dire and Iwobi was pathetic however what seems to have been missed is the fact we have a new manager who is trying to stamp his own way of playing on players that have been used to other tactics, this is done through intense training sessions. The past week has see us play 3 games in 7 days at the start of season the final one verses a side that had all week to train and prepare without the interruption of a cup match. This is not an excuse but just a fact of ossible mitigating circumstances that we had to deal with.
I never look at the league table until after 6 games and I also remember the start we made under Roy H and where we eventually ended up under his management.

I totally understand why lots of people were fed up with Marco Silva. During his years at Fulham the moaning increased and the entertainment value of the football decreased.

But here's the thing:

Silva did what he had to do to win games. He must have realized that the quality of our ageing squad was declining every season. Several important players were past their peak, and we also kept losing key players without replacing them with players of the same quality. So he adjusted his tactics accordingly. His last season was particularly dull, but looking at the actual results (vs the quality of our squad) he still made us overperform slightly in my opinion.

In any case, I think his overall record at FFC speaks for itself: Premier League points record, consistent top half/mid table finish, several good cup runs, League Cup semi-final and several quarter-finals. Looking at the actual results, Silva was beyond doubt one of the best managers we ever had.

Of course, last season I was frustrated with Silva too. Like many other Fulham fans I wanted us to play a more entertaining attacking football, but to do that we need better quality players.

Football is all about money these days. We will need to be extremely clever in the transfer market to compete at the highest level (Europe). Unfortunately our record in the transfer market has been rather poor in recent years, both with regards to quality (expensive signings flopping) and also from a financial perspective (buying expensive, selling cheap and letting players run down their contracts and lose them for nothing).

Because of this, our squad had now reached a point where it was in desperate need of a major overhaul. That's a very bad combination with a new, inexperienced manager who wants to play entertaining attacking football. It might just be the perfect storm that gets us relegated.

It's still early days though. Hopefully things will improve from the truly abysmal performances against Chelsea and Sunderland. Arbeloa will surely have to adapt his tactics a bit, because I honestly can't se us bringing in the quality of players he will need to play the type of football he really wants us to play.

The fact that our defence looked FAR better organised against Sunderland gives me some hope that Arbeloa is adapting to the realities of the Premier League. With the players currently at his disposal he will need to find a more balanced approach. And like it or not, Silva did exactly that.

Nonsense...He dithered and dithered about if he should sign contract or not,and it rubbed off on the players performance in the latter games of last season, costing us a European place.
So don't point the finger at fans,it was his decision to go...Fact.

But do we know these were Silva signings? The days of managers going out on a rainy Wednesday night to sit in a stand and watch Stuart Pearce play for Wealdstone are long gone. They are given players and told - now coach them.

I know it will take a while for the players to get used to AA's new way of playing. The worrying thing for me yesterday was it looked like the players had reverted to Parkerball. And they weren't even here under Parker!

Our right flank worries me. No doubt Castagne will be bombing forward, and I Wonder if Andersen has the legs to defend the space that will open up especially with Berge on the same side."

I hate to say it but both the goal and the the one that hit the post came from the weakness I predicted above. If I could see it right at the start, then why couldn't AA?

Mr White

I though that when you get close to the opposition goal you were supposed to shot to try and get a goal?

That's not strictly true, Silva tells the recruiting team the type of players he wants, they then look for those players, list given to Silva, he then selects the players to go after, he had a big say in what players were brought in.
