Fulham now pushing to sign £30m striker in effort to convince Silva to stay
Fulham are now pushing to secure the signature of a "prolific" new striker in the summer, in an effort to convince Marco Silva to stay.

Silva's Craven Cottage future in doubt
Ahead of the Cottagers' trip to the Etihad Stadium this evening, Manchester City Pep Guardiola has been singing Silva's praises, saying: "Defensively and offensively, they are really good. Marco is one of the top, top managers I've faced. He is a top, top manager and has the destiny to be one of top ones in a few years."

However, the west Londoners may have their work cut out trying to keep hold of their manager, with his contract set to expire at the end of the season, and Nottingham Forest are becoming increasingly confident about luring the 48-year-old to the City Ground.

Although Silva's side have lost their last two Premier League matches, they are still in position to push for the European places this season, especially considering they strengthened during the January transfer window, signing Oscar Bobb from Manchester City.

However, with rival clubs sniffing around, Shahid Khan may have to splash the cash again in the summer, and Fulham are now pushing hard to secure the signature of PSV Eindhoven striker Ricardo Pepi, after attempting to get a deal done in January.

The Cottagers have remained in contact over a deal for Pepi, despite missing out last month, and a deal could be possible for the slightly reduced amount of £30m at the end of the season, down from £32.2m on deadline day.

Silva was determined to get a new striker through the door during the winter, and Khan & co are hoping the addition of the PSV star will convince him to stay, with talks over a new contract currently ongoing.

"Prolific" Pepi could be ideal Jimenez replacement
It has recently emerged that Fulham aren't planning to offer Raul Jimenez a contract extension, with the Mexcian's current deal set to expire at the end of the campaign.

It is perhaps a little surprising Jimenez is being allowed to leave, given that he has picked up four goals and one assist in his last nine Premier League outings, but at 34-years-old, the experienced striker could be in the twilight years of his career.

Having also netted 13 times in 34 outings for the USA, the American, who has been called "prolific" by scout Jacek Kulig, could be a solid replacement for Jimenez, and it would be an added bonus if the addition of the striker convinces Silva to remain at Craven Cottage.

Pep Guardiola bemoans Manchester City 'dropping performance in second halves ahead of Fulham match
City need to keep winning in order to keep pace with Arsenal at the top of the table

Midweek soccer is back, and for Manchester City, they'll need to keep up their winning ways in order to push league leaders Arsenal in their upcoming match. City are still six points behind the Gunners, but after Sunday's comeback victory over Liverpool, it was one that meant more as star striker Erling Haaland ended his slump with a goal and an assist. But with a plucky Fulham team coming to the Etihad, City will need to be defensively sound to avoid this clash being like the last time that these two clubs met, a crazy 5-4 win for City where Pep Guardiola's side flirted with blowing a four goal lead.

Back in December, the reverse fixture at Craven Cottage saw nine goals find the back of the net as City escaped with all three points. Phil Foden and Samuel Chukwueze both netted braces in the match, but it was certainly a defense-optional affair.

CBS Sports

City's back line will look different than that one with Marc Guehi in the squad, while Ruben Dias' own return from injury will give Pep Guardiola a look at what will likely be his first choice central pairing for the foreseeable future.

Young defender Abdukodir Khusanov has had to log plenty of minutes as of late, with Josko Gvardiol, John Stones, and Nathan Ake all dealing with injuries. But as City gets slightly healthier, they can't be ruled out of the title race just yet. Guardiola will know that dropping any points will lead to falling out of the title race, but that's also not something that he wants to talk about. What Guardiola wants is for his team to be consistent.

"What I'm saying is what we have to do to beat Fulham, what we have to do to be better and to be closer to make the first half in Anfield and [not] the second. What is the reason why in the second half, we are still dropping our performance?" Guardiola said in his pre-match availability.

If the City manager could answer that question, they wouldn't be in this situation this season, but it shows how hard it is even for managers at the top of the game to know every answer. With FA Cup and Champions League play around the corner, City will need to balance their priorities while maintaining focus. Stringing together a few wins could do a lot for the squad, and it'll also be easier to do with Haaland in good form.

Pressure is always on the Norwegian, but it will be lessened after scoring in his last match. With improvement facing Fulham, maybe we can reach a point where City can go on a run and push Arsenal. That run may have already happened, but the only way to find out is by playing the games.

Recent form
Manchester City have won four of the last five games in all competitions, their latest victory coming at Anfield against Liverpool.

Fulham, meanwhile, have lost back-to-back games, losing to Manchester United and then Everton last time out.

What's been said?
Man City boss Pep Guardiola on the title race with Arsenal: "Every time over the past weeks and months when I go before the game for an interview always if you lose you are losing everything and are going to disappear from the planet Earth and stuff. So what I am saying is what do you have to do to beat Fulham?

"I understand how nice it is to [talk about] three, four [points gap], this kind of stuff. That is OK but that is not winning titles or in the latter stages to try to be close to win the titles."

Fulham manager Marco Silva on facing Man City: "In a football match any moment that you switch off they [Man City] are capable of punishing you because they have the quality in their frontline. It was a great night but unfortunately the result did not go our way, and results speak louder than most things."

The Marco Silva future claim that could impact Sunderland and Leeds United's Harry Wilson transfer pursuit
Sunderland have been linked with Fulham winger Harry Wilson in recent weeks.

Sunderland's apparent interest in Fulham winger Harry Wilson has been repeatedly reported in recent weeks.

With the Wales international rapidly approaching the end of his contract at Craven Cottage, and with the possibility of an exit on a free transfer looming ever larger, the Black Cats are one of several Premier League sides - alongside the likes of Leeds United, Everton, and Crystal Palace - to have been linked with the attacker of late.

To that end, various outlets have suggested that Wilson's departure is an ever-increasing likelihood, but while contract talks have reportedly been put on hold for now, at this stage, there are still no concrete indications on whether or not he will leave Fulham this summer.

And as uncertainty lingers, it is perhaps worth heeding a recent update from BBC Sport, who claimed a fortnight ago that the 28-year-old "would prefer to have clarity on the future of head coach Marco Silva, who is also out of contract in the summer, before making a final decision over any new deal" - especially following fresh claims from Cottagers chief Tony Khan.

What has been said about Marco Silva's Fulham future?
Speaking to talkSPORT, Khan - who serves as Fulham's vice-chairman and director of football operations - hinted that he is hopeful a deal to extend Silva's stay in West London will soon be agreed.

He said: "I think we have a great squad and a great manager. We have Marco Silva, who's done a fantastic job coaching this team, and I love working with Marco. This squad is doing incredibly well. I have a great relationship with Marco. I love working with Marco and I absolutely want Marco to be here for a long time. I think he will be, and I believe that.

"We've had a lot to do, and we've just had a great recent signing that we spent a lot of time on... we're all very aligned as a club, working together. I absolutely believe the way we're all working together and the way we all enjoy it. In Marco's own words, I think there's great chemistry and everyone is very aligned working together here at Fulham."

Whether Silva decides to stay or not remains to be seen, as does the extent to which his future will come to impact Wilson's, but if BBC Sport are accurate, and if Khan's hopes of an extension come to fruition, then the wide man's anticipated exit may yet be thrown into doubt.

What has Fulham winger Harry Wilson said about his contract situation amid Sunderland transfer links?
Speaking to Sky Sports in December, Wilson suggested that any decision on his future has to benefit both him and his loved ones. When asked if he could provide an update on his contract negotiations with Fulham, he said: "Yeah, not a lot really. I'm fully focused on playing. I play football because I love the game and wherever I am, it's got to be somewhere where I'm going to play. That's what I played for before, that's what I love doing. If we [Wales] get to the World Cup, I want to be in the best shape going into that. I think what's going to put me in the best position is somewhere where I'm playing, getting the minutes, playing well.

"Hopefully scoring and assisting, I've been able to do that the last couple of months and then whatever happens after that happens. Fulham is somewhere I wanted somewhere to call home. For the last four-and-a-half years, it's somewhere I've been really, really happy here.

"I feel like we've had some amazing times together, we've won the Championship, we've had three solid years in the Premier League and I'm hoping this will be another one. But this next contract has got to be right for me and my family. So yeah, we'll see what happens."
