Harry Wilson: Aston Villa 'concerned' about summer transfer after what they saw
Harry Wilson has caused concern at Aston Villa about his potential summer transfer after a dip in his recent performances for Fulham.

Villa scouts were keeping a close eye on his performance during Fulham's 3-0 defeat to Arsenal, and are not believed to have been impressed by what they saw.

The 29-year-old struggled to get into the game at the Emirates, and has now gone four Premier League games without registering a goal or an assist.

Former Villa scout Mick Brown told Football Insider that Wilson's suitors are looking for him to show more against the top sides, despite Fulham's struggles.

The Wales international has enjoyed a strong season despite his club's inconsistencies, but must continue to prove his level as Aston Villa step up their transfer plans.

What is the latest on Harry Wilson joining Aston Villa?
Football Insider exclusively revealed on 25 April that Aston Villa are working on signing Wilson and have held early stages of talks with his representatives.

The winger's contract at Craven Cottage is set to expire in June, meaning he will be able to move as a free agent, and could sign despite Villa's financial concerns.

Unai Emery is keen to bolster his squad in wide areas and Wilson has emerged as a key target, but he will have to continue to prove himself between now and the end of the season.

"Harry Wilson would be a good option for any club," Brown told Football Insider.

"But after his performance against Arsenal, the clubs interested in him are going to be concerned, because it was really disappointing.

"It raised a lot of question marks because he hardly had a kick in the game and didn't look too bothered about it either.

"Let's say Aston Villa, for example, if they're interested in a player and they see he's got a fixture coming up against Arsenal, Man City or Liverpool, they want to see how he gets on.

"So they'll send scouts to keep an eye on his performance, because how he deals with these challenges at Fulham is the way he will deal with them at Villa.

"That's the nearest you can get to answering some questions about him, but if he's turning in performances like that against Arsenal, it's not good enough.

"Fulham were very poor, but that's when you want to see a player like Wilson step up and make a difference, or at least put the effort in.

"So it raises questions about Wilson when he's putting in performances like that and there might be a few doubts about doing the deal."

Could clubs still rival Aston Villa for Wilson's signature?
Despite Villa seemingly making the first move to sign Wilson, there is no shortage of interest from rival clubs looking to poach him away from Fulham.

His availability as a free agent has put a number of clubs on alert, with at least five Premier League clubs including the likes of West Ham, Crystal Palace and Bournemouth linked.

Meanwhile, Football Insider revealed in March that Everton and Leeds are racing to sign Wilson and are keeping a close eye on developments over his future.

Leeds have been long-term admirers of the Wales international, having come close to signing him last summer before their deal fell through late in the day.

Everton, meanwhile, are keen to bolster out wide and are on course to qualify for a European competition in a boost to their chances of a deal.

Why nine points (and only nine) gets Fulham in Europe
We've done the maths on how Fulham can bring European nights back to Craven Cottage

I realise that writing the following article after Saturday's battering at Arsenal is ill-timed, but I've done some maths and I hate to tell you that the Europe dream is still on.

It does however require Fulham to do something that's been pretty tricky this season: win three games in a row.

As a reminder, we play:

Bournemouth (H)
Wolves (A)
Newcastle Utd (H)

Three wins would get us to 57 points. Remember that number, it's going to be important later.

The biggest obstacle is obviously Bournemouth at the weekend, who on Sunday reached a whopping 15 league games without defeat with their 3-0 victory over Crystal Palace.

Then again, Fulham are strong at home and we shouldn't fear any side at Craven Cottage Cottage. Bournemouth are great side, but in a one-off match we shouldn't view it as an impossibility to get three points.

If Fulham can get the business done against the Cherries, we have two perfect matches (on paper) to end the season. A Wolves team who are already relegated with tensions in the stands at an all-time high and a Newcastle United team who are poor on the road and will likely have nothing to play for on the final day.

But, how can I be so sure that even nine points gets us into Europe given that we are quite far behind our rivals? Well I'm very happy to show my calculations. Of course, predicting so many matches is a bit of a mug's game - but there is one thing that makes me fairly confident of my calculations, that is: Manchester City.

Despite the dropped points at Everton, Pep's title chasers are on the hunt and in my opinion it's highly likely that they will win every match between now and the end of the season. Fortunately for us, they play two of our European rivals (Bournemouth and Brentford) in that time.

For the other games, I've tried to be pretty generous to those we're competing with, while also making a few risky calls such as Brentford not winning at Anfield, which I do concede is feasible.

As you can see, if Fulham can get themselves to 57 points, then I'm confident that eighth place is more than possible. In fact, the above scenario would have Fulham seventh behind Brighton on goal difference.

I don't think 55 points (one draw and two wins) will be enough given our inferior goal difference to every other team. It's simply 57 or bust in my opinion.

There will of course be unexpected twists and turns before the end of the season, but there is no doubt that the prize is still open to Fulham if they want it. Let's hope that Marco and the boys show some mettle that has alluded us in recent years.

Marco Silva tipped to become the next Crystal Palace manager: 'People are talking about it'
:Marco Silva is increasingly likely to leave Fulham at the end of the season and could be a target for Crystal Palace in their search for a new manager.

Silva feels he has taken Fulham as far as he can in their current circumstances and is now likely to leave Craven Cottage when his contract expires.

He has previously been linked with the vacancies at Man United, Tottenham and Chelsea, but there are doubts about whether top clubs will move for him.

Instead, former Man United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider that Silva is better-suited at an ambitious mid-table club, with Palace emerging as contenders.

Oliver Glasner announced he would be leaving the FA Cup-winners come the end of the season and Palace have been assessing their options, with Silva now on their list.

Could Marco Silva leave Fulham for Crystal Palace?
Brown told Football Insider earlier this season that Silva is leaning towards a departure from Fulham, placing a number of clubs on alert over his potential availability.

While he has been linked with roles at a number of higher-profile clubs, Palace will feel the opportunity to compete in the Europa League could be a significant draw.

That will, of course, depend on winning the Conference League, but they are in a strong position to get into the final after a 3-1 first-leg win against Shakhtar Donetsk.

"People are always talking about Marco Silva and where he could go," Brown told Football Insider.

"There's been speculation about a load of top clubs and whether they could bring him in, but it never happens, and there's a reason for that.

"Look at the available options, if we go from similar clubs, there's both Oliver Glasner and Andoni Iraola, and both of them would have more of a chance at the top clubs.

"He's a good manager, so I don't mean to be disparaging of him, but there's just something there that makes all of these clubs overlook him.

"The issue he has at Fulham is there's a bit of a glass ceiling there, and he feels a bit like he's taken them as far as they can and it's time to move on.

"But I don't think any of the top clubs, the likes of Chelsea or Man United, are going to bring him in.

"He's been at Fulham for ages, before that he was at Everton, Watford, Hull, and it feels like he is the type of manager who does best at a mid-table side.

"So somebody like Crystal Palace for example, FA Cup winners, playing in Europe, looking to be playing in Europe again next season, they could move for him.

"He'll want to go somewhere where he can do more than what he's doing at Fulham, and if one of those top clubs don't come in for him, Palace could be a good option."

Who else is on Crystal Palace's managerial shortlist?
Silva is not the only ambitous target for Crystal Palace this summer, as the Eagles are prepared to go head-to-head with bigger clubs in an attempt to land their next boss.

Bournemouth's Andoni Iraola is high on their list of targets as he is also set to become available in the summer, but they will be competing with Chelsea for his signature.

Football Insider revealed on 3 May that Iraola is Crystal Palace's top target and they have made an approach to his camp to assess his willingness to take the job.

The Spaniard's work with Bournemouth over the last two seasons has earned him high praise, with the Cherries currently sixth in the Premier League table.

However, Chelsea are also believed to have made contact over his appointment, in a move which could complicate Palace's ambitious plans.

Crystal Palace, Fulham, West Ham United submit offers to sign Moustapha Mbow, Liverpool also keen
Paris FC defender Moustapha Mbow has been linked with a summer move away from the Ligue 1 club, with Premier League outfits interested.

According to a report from RMC Sport, Crystal Palace, Fulham, and West Ham United are interested in the player, and they have already submitted offers for the 26-year-old African defender. However, they will face competition from Liverpool as well.

Mbow has done quite well in France this season, and he could prove to be an excellent acquisition for all four clubs. It will be interesting to see where he ends up. The 26-year-old is at the peak of his powers, and this could be the right time for him to take on a new challenge and move to the Premier League. He would be able to compete at a higher level in England.

Crystal Palace have not been able to replace Marc Guehi properly, and they will need to improve at the back. Signing the 26-year-old Senegal international could be a wise decision. The Paris FC defender has the physicality and technical attributes for English football, and he could make a big difference for them at the back. However, Palace also have other centre-backs on their radar, including Santiago Bueno.

Similarly, Fulham need to tighten up defensively if they want to improve further. The Cottagers have established themselves as a reliable mid-table team in the Premier League, but they need to add more quality to the team if they want to fight for European qualification. Adding more depth to their defensive unit could help them improve further.

Meanwhile, West Ham United are fighting for survival in the Premier League. The East Londoners have been quite poor defensively, and it is an area they need to improve. They will not want to be fighting for survival next season as well. It remains to be seen whether they can sign the Senegal international.

Finally, Liverpool are keeping tabs on his situation. The Reds could lose Ibrahima Konate as a free agent at the end of the season, and they will need to replace the French international. Additionally, Virgil van Dijk is in the twilight of his career. The 26-year-old could prove to be a handy option for them. Mbow has shown his quality with Paris FC, and he has the physicality and technical attributes to make the step up to the Premier League as well.
