The Cravenette

Just heading back home from the game and actually thought Chucy and Robinson had better games than they have had for a while. Timmy also done well.

But why do we never want to shoot. The fact that Bournemouths goal was from a deflected shot should tell us something. Bobb went right across the penalty area for what seemed like ages before he finally had a shot.

The lack of goals is not good, we have to move the ball quicker and play with some purpose. Very disappointing.

I didn't like the booing at the end but get the frustration.

Bill2

Thought Robinson had a good game today especially after the stick he got last week. So he got my vote, closely followed by Bassey and Lukic.

The Cravenette

I voted Lukic but thought Bassey was immense today. Especially after Andersen's idiocy.

Didn't vote.

Frankly, there have been too many performances like today.

Although this style has won us a few games this season there's a dangerous lack of energy and adventure in our play.

I've seen us relegated too many times when we are not rubbish but can't create good chances and take them and lack leadership.

IMO next season we could be in trouble if there's not a big change.

Was that Lee Andersen.? ::smile::

Just being careful - with the libel laws and all that.....

I thought Chukwueze struggled on the left and his best moments came when he switched to the right. He's a good player, but I'm struggling to see why we should spend £24m on him. Wilson was hopeless and has been since the Villa rumour. Agree that Bobb and Kevin should start against Wolves.

Lukic and Cairney did a good job. Castagne. Robinson and Bassey were decent.

Muniz and Andersen were woeful. Probably would have been better taking Muniz off for Diop.

Carborundum

For us Castagne, who never gives up and recovered from a right kicking.  Bassey was good too.

But the real problem is that none of our players looked as good as Alex Scott, who is light years ahead of our engine room.

We need to recruit Bournemouth's transfer scouting team. They just keep replacing players sold for huge fees to the likes of Real Madrid (Huijsen), PSG (Zabarnyi), Liverpool (Kerkez), Man City (Seyenyo) with more quality like Rayan, Truffert, Kroupi etc now also in demand for big money. Now 16 games unbeaten and eyeing champions league. Smaller club than us with a tiny ground of 11k capacity. Very jealous.

Agree entirely. Their scouting network is brilliant. Ours is awful

Whitestone

Bassey was immense, likewise Lukic. Defensively Robinson was very good but once again his crosses were over hit.

We have a scouting network?  Where?

SerbianLad

I do think some of the comments here are being unfair to some of our players. We lost, but there were some stellar performances. Bassey was by far the best centreback in this game. He won all of his duels pretty much and he was also pretty effective going forward. He was miles better than e.g. Senesi who should have been sent off but the referee bottled it. Lukic was the best midfielder on the pitch. He was absolutely everywhere, had a good long distance attempt as well as some very intricate passing, and almost a great backheel assist for Bobb. Castagne had a very good game, I'd argue it was better than the Villa game, in which he got a lot of MOTM shouts. Robinson, poor crossing aside, was pretty much faultless. Kevin and Bobb provided bright sparks late on and were also pretty good.

Citizen Smith

I voted for Bassey who gave everything today and was unlucky to finish on the losing side. Bournemouth were much sharper than us in midfield and we desperately need to find a high intensity centre mid (like Alex Scott for them) in the summer. Kevin and Bobb both looked lively and promise much for next season.

While you may well be right, it's not all about scouting. Our signings are who Silva wanted - there's also a clear disconnect between Silva and Tony Khan in terms of squad development.

We've done very well with our signings since returning to the PL, but signing only established players is a high risk strategy as if you miss you have no resale value. This is the Andersen situation.

Baszab

I thought we played well
Desperately  unlucky to hit the inside of the bar right at the end
Lost to a lucky deflected goal and idiocy by Andersen
Had more attempts and miles more touches in the opposition  box
Bournemouth play a  niggly Spanish style of fouls and breaking up play
Thought the ref was dreadful - ridiculous with one minute to go and we're desperately trying to get some momentum - he strolls over to their bench to book someone - shows total lack of understanding of the game

SerbianLad

We had more possession, more shots, more xG, we hit the bar twice, Muniz was inches away from scoring too, on another day we win that, even with Andersen's stupid, unnecessary challenge. I do think that swung the momentum in their favour though.

This is a good point, I thought Bournemouth were a surprisingly dirty team. And when JKA was hauled down for no card where minutes earlier King had picked up a nonsense yellow, I think we all knew the ref was clueless.

Honestly, I wish Christie hadn't been sent off. The ref spent the rest of the game overcompensating, even after the Andersen red.

itombomb

I don't think Castagne is good enough generally, but tbf to him he was excellent today.

Their scouting isn't that much better than ours - and they don't sign many nobodies for peanuts, they regularly spend significant sums on players.

The but difference is they have a proper plan and strategy to recruitment, led by football people, rather than business people. They get deals done quickly (rather than spending months haggling over a couple of million), they do proper succession planning (both around players and coaches*), and look to offload players at their peak value trusting they will get replacements in.

If their people were running Fulham last Summer, Wilson, Castagne, Reed, Muniz and (probably) Robinson would have all been sold.

*if Silva goes, I wouldn't be surprised if we don't have a replacement in until most of pre-season is done.

On the train back, both sets of fans were bemused by the the refs inconsistency, he seemed to enjoy booking our players.

The only positive from today was this post on X:

Nizaar Kinsella
That will be another nail in Chelsea's Champions League coffin should Bournemouth win at Fulham.

Bassey by a country mile.  Effort, energy, attitude, strength, skill. I can't understand those who voted for TC - protected the ball sure, but when a goal down and 25 mins to go is not the time to keep making meaningless 5 or 10 yard passes.
