Streaks

Given the fact that Bournemouth extended their unbeaten streak to 16 games it made me wonder if our inability to put a run together is real or just my imagination.

I looked at most of the teams in the league (apart from Chelsea/Arsenal/City/Liverpool) and looked at all the times they had 3 or more wins in a row & all the times they went 5 or more games unbeaten, you can see the results in the images for the frequency of each (done before Bournemouth game today so they were only at 15).

During the four seasons Fulham have had one each of a 5 (24/25) ,6 (25/26) and 8 (24/25) game unbeaten streak and 1 three (25/26) and 1 four game  (22/23) win streak giving us a total of 19 matches during an unbeaten streak and 7 matches during a win streak.

In terms of win streaks, out of the Premier League ever presents since we went back up only West Ham have a poorer record than us having only had 2 three game win streaks.

In terms of unbeaten runs only Forest (exactly the same record as us), Wolves (1 five and 1 eight game streak) and West Ham (no unbeaten streaks of five games or more) have had fewer good runs than us.

It kind of reinforces what I thought although it must be said that I didn't look at winless streaks which I presume lots of clubs comparable to us must of had longer winless streaks to compensate for their good runs as we tend to finish with roughly the same amount of points. Nonetheless it would be nice for us to go on unbeaten runs more frequently.

Good use of my time? Not sure.

Bournemouth will have to do a lot better the beat the erica roe streak, for me.


Fulhams best winning streak was 12 games in 2000 over a 2-season period, for the home streak, it was another 12 game one back in 1959, and unbeaten streak was 23 games in 2017/2018 season.

In recent seasons our tactics and teamwork make us difficult to beat (that's apart from **** ups) but it also makes our play very predictable.

So we achieve mid table mediocrity but fail to rise above it.

Trouble is mid table mediocrity is closer to having a poor season battling relegation than the bigger step up to success.
